Ever since the Colour match service arrived at Boots, I had been trying to find the time to pop in and find out the correct shade of foundation for my skin. A month or so before Christmas I finally found the time and after a short, painless twenty seconds, I was presented with a foundation from the Boots N07 range to suit my skin.
After spending my £16.50, which is more than I would normally spend on a foundation, I left the shop with my 30ml bottle.
Protect and Perfect foundation is available in 14 different shades so there should be one to suit the majority of skin tones. Described as a silky foundation rather than a matt appearance, you will also be protected with spf15 when using this foundation.
The packaging is a glass bottle with a pump action lid. I have found that the pump action can get stuck when using it which is a slight flaw in the bottle design which is a shame. You have to manually pull it back up to re pump as you need more than one application from the bottle for full face coverage.
I also think that when the bottle gets empty you will waste a fair bit from the bottom due to the pump action dispense design. However the bottle does look classier than buying a tube of foundation, and when spending a lot on a product, first impressions do need to count.
I find applying this foundation is best done with your fingertips. Some people prefer to use a sponge but I find there is wastage this way and get better, more even coverage with my fingers. The only downside to this is marking towels when washing hands after applying as there is always some residue left no matter how much soap is used.
Once applied, I find there is a nice even coverage and I can barely tell I am using foundation which is a good indication that I am using the correct shade.
The all-important test of fine lines and blemishes being hidden stands up well to this foundation. Protect and Perfect is marketed to soften the appearance of fine lines and blemishes instantly. I can confirm it does hide fine lines and blemishes instantly, but how does it fare as the day goes on?
Sadly for me I don't find the foundation to continue working at full performance all day. If I apply this in the morning then but mid-afternoon, I really have to wonder if I am wearing foundation. I can still tell in certain areas on my face such as forehead and chin areas, but my cheeks start to show blemishes again.
What I do like however about this foundation is that it doesn't look caked on despite using two or three pumps per application. There are also no tell tell lines around the jaw area as it blends nicely into my skin. Despite not lasting and showing my blemishes again, I find that it doesn't look patchy which is a really positive point for the foundation. You could get away with a quick touch up, but it's just a shame to have to do so.
The bottle has the potential to last quite a long time due to not needing to apply too much in one go. The pump action also helps to control usage and prevent waste when compared to using a tube of foundation with free flow.
Overall, I don't think this is the perfect foundation for me, but I will definitely try a different range within the No7 brand in the same shade to see how that fares against my skin.
I have used Boots No. 7 foundation for about 5 years now. It was recommended to me by both a close friend and also my mother who have used also used it for years, only different tones.
The foundation cream is a medium consistency, it's liquid enough to be discharged from a push dispenser style nozzle but thick enough that it doesn't drip off your finger. It's a good consistency for applying to the skin. I personally hate wearing foundation, but I have found this one to be be more than tolerable as it doesn't make my skin greasy and I can't feel it's there.
I am always a little worried that foundation could give me spots or blackheads from clogging up pores, but No.7 Protect and Perfect has always been fine on my skin. I would say after the foundation is applied my skin looks natural and the foundation makes my it look smoother and less blemished.
I am very pale so have to have the lightest shade. Altogether there are seven shades, obviously all tailored for caucasian skin, so it's no good for people with dark skin tones.
Boots describe the foudation as being a "silky" formula, which is correct, it does look and feel silky. The foundation uses antioxidant complex, lipo-peptides and SPF15, of which I'm not sure what the first two are and factor 15 is far too low to have any effect in protecting my skin tone anyway. It also apparently maintains elasticity and reduces the damaging effects of free-radicals - anyone know what a "free-radical" is?
I don't apply very much, just around my t-zone and to cover up dark patches around my eyes. A blob about 5mm is usually enough therefore a bottle lasts me a very long time, perhaps 18 months or so. I also rarely wear it during the summer. The cream does seem to slightly separate if you haven't used it in a while, therefore it sometimes needs a shake.
Just checked Boots.com and see currently £15.50 but I usually get it on offer as Boots do a lot of 3 for 2 promotions and I also use their power and mascara, so it works out to be quite a good deal if I can them all in the offer. It's not the most expensive foundation on the market, but £15 still feels pretty expensive, good thing it lasts me a long time!
No 7 is a range of skincare and cosmetics manufactured by Boots.
I don't tend to wear foundation, I am much more of a tinted moisturiser kind of girl and have found that that was always enough for me. A couple of years ago I was bridesmaid for one of my close friends, and wanted to buy a foundation to give me a longer lasting look, so I went to my local Boots to see a nice lady at the No. 7 counter.
She was incredibly helpful and asked me exactly what I was looking for, and then got a couple of the different types and shades of foundation to try to match my skin tone. I was surprised at the selections as they would have been the last ones I would have picked up - they looked far too dark. She gave me a bit of a lesson on how to apply evenly and also talked about the rest of the No. 7 range in case I was interested in anything else - they are well trained in cross selling!
I ended up leaving with New Ivory Protect & Perfect Foundation. It comes in a nice, smart black box. The tube itself is clear and you can see the foundation through it. It states that it is SPF 15, and is hypo-allergenic. It has a large black pull off, push on lid, and is pump action.
You need to shake it well before you use it - best to do with the lid on to avoid any accidents! It comes out in tiny amounts, which is great as you only need small amounts. It has quite an oily texture which I initially found a bit off putting, but I think that makes it easier to apply. I apply with my fingertips as I would with the tinted moisturiser. I think it gives good coverage, covering any blemishes and evens out my skin tone. It also reduces the appearance of pores which is great. I find it quite light as well, so it never gives the caked on look, just a natural finish. I don't use much, so I often need a bit of topping up in the afternoon. It has never caused me to have any outbreaks of spots when I have used either. It doesn't have a strong smell either. It is easily removed with either cleanser and toner, or No.7 facial wipes.
It costs £15.50 for a 30ml bottle, so keep an eye open for the £5 off vouchers - they are doing them at the moment.
I would recommend, and will definitely buy again, but would like to try others too! I am giving 5 stars.
The "protect and prefect" foundation, definitely perfects. But i wouldn't say it does much else.
The liquid foundation easily flows across the skin to cover all traces of blemishes. I have suffered from acne before and still have remaining scars across my face. This foundation helped cover the blemishes so they were no longer visible and my skin looked healthier. This foundation is easy to apply and spreads across your face quickly. The product is easy to remove and lasts for a long time. I use a lot of foundation and the bottle lasted nearly a year, which is impressive considering my nearly everyday use.
I liked the packaging as the bottel is made of glass, it allows you to see the color of the foundation and how much foundation is left. The packaging looked professional and attractive and caught my attention compared to all of the other foundation brands and bottles.
On the other hand i have found that this product has a lot of faults. After i applied the foundation, it left a few visible lines in my skin. Also my friends could tell that I was wearing foundation. There is no natural shine in the product. Making is obvious that I am wearing the foundation. It is also annoyingly hard to blend the foundation. I found blending made no difference, you could obviously tell I was wearing foundation. I have also found the make up is not that durable and only lasts around five hours before needing to be topped up again, which is extremely annoying. The quality of the foundation is poor. The product is easily removed - actually it does not stay on that long and needs to be topped up on every few hours. The product is lastly obviously there when applied - as I experienced. I have not had a good experience of this product and I would not recommend this product to anyone.
Personally I would not recommend this product because it is not worth the eight pound price tag. There are a lot better brands that can offer you the same amount of coverage with a more natural glow. From personal experience I can say this product is a huge let down, and I am not trying any more products from the no7 range for a very long time.
When it comes to foundation I'm rather fussy I've tryed all sorts of brands over the years from cheap and cheerful to more expensive ones.
Comes in a glass bottle with a black lid at the top. It tells me no7 in gold letters at the top and protect and perfect in black writing in the middle of the bottle. The foundation can be seen through the bottle which is brown in colour. The shade is , number 20 blonde. It is spf15.
This foundation is wonderful for those of you who have allergies to most foundations as it is hypo- allergenic. I don't usually have any problems with allergies to make-up so I can get away with using more or less anything.
Myself using it~
I usually prefure to use this product for evenings out either going for dinner or going out for a drink with friends, as it seems to stay on for the whole evening without the need to reapply it. Before applying the foundation I use a moisturiser on my face rub it in and let it soak for a few minutes before I apply the foundation this gives it a smoother finish and helps prevent clogging!
I usually apply it with my fingers however you may rather use a sponge or foundation brush each to there own lol!
The foundation has a pump at the top I usually pump it into the palm of my hand and use my finger to rub it into my face. It is very smooth not to wet or dry. The foundation doesn't really have a smell as such.
I have a fairly pale complextion and would say this shade is abit on the dark side for me if I use to much of it a little goes along way with this. I will definatley be buying it again.
Only available from boots stores for £15.99
No7 is another of my favourite make up brands. I love it especially for their foundations. In my experience the liquid foundations that No7 sell are the best products the whole brand does. I'm a big fan, as they are reasonably priced and in my opinion really great quality and excellent value for money.
I have tried almost all the liquid foundations in the range and found them all to be very similar. This one, 'Protect and Perfect' really does protect and perfect my skin, and it lasts all day and doesn't clog my pores. I have used foundations from brands like Lancome and Chanel before and can honestly say I prefer this one to all of them! Which is why I think it is excellent value for money.
The bottle is made of clear glass and the glass is quite thick. It makes it look like there is more foundation in it than there actually is, this is me being really picky though as I'm finding it really hard to pick faults with this foundation. There is 30ml in the bottle by the way, an average amount, and it lasts me about two or three months if I am to use the foundation every day.
The lid is black and made of plastic. On it, in gold, it says No7.
I like the bottle design, it is not flimsy at all and never breaks. It looks quite good and is also very practical.
This foundation costs £15 from Boots and will gain you 60 points on your advantage card. I have found that foundations like this one are sometimes available to buy on eBay, at lower prices, and recently bought the 'Lifting and Firming' foundation from No7 from eBay and it is geniune and only cost me £5.99, so it is well worth taking a look and seeing if you can get an even better bargain.
Overall I would definitely recommend this foundation, 100% and it gets a full 5 stars from me. It is available in enough shades for most skin tones and is most suited to dry and normal skin types. It always lasts all day on my skin, covers my blemishes and gives my skin a healthy glow, as well as not clogging my pores and it also does not rub off easily onto clothes. I LOVE it!
Thanks for reading xo
I bought this foundation as a back-up from my normal foundation, so basically I only used this foundation as a spare.
It is a bit like the one I normally use, however it is more thinner and not as long lasting.
But i will warn you that the bottle is made of glass and can break if you drop it, but it does come in a box for a bit protection.
The one thing I like about this foundation is that it does have some protection from the sun (15 SPF) so you can wear it whatever the climate! But as it is thin it can wear off in very climates.
The foundation is sold at a approx seven to eight pounds and only sold in the N07 range at boots. It is also sold in a range of colors from nude to beige, ivory to walnut, so whatever you skin tone is they will have the foundation for you!
It does spread in easily so there are no lines around your jaw line every time you apply - so it has the little trick whether you're wearing foundation or not, something that most foundations don't have.
Overall, this is a good foundation if you don't need to wear much foundation or if you just prefer to wear a thinner foundation than a thicker one.
I do like this foundation and would recommend it to an audience of girls, however in my opinion it's a foundation which isn't for me sadly, so it's good for some, bad for others.
Boots no 7 protect and perfect foundation
I like to have a selection of foundation and although I don't have any real loyalty to any one particular product I do find that the Boots no 7 products tend to suit my skin,
The light diffusing formula will apparently give immediate complexion perfection, smoothing the skin and giving luminous younger looking skin all day long. The foundation contains lipo peptides to boost elasticity as well as a patented anti oxidant to protect against free radicals. In the long term because the foundation contains a blend of these protecting and renewing ingredients, fine lines and wrinkles will be reduced, and skin will experience prolonged moisturising.
It is also non pore blocking and SPF 15 to protect skin in the sun.
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...
AVailable in 7 shades I have the Almond.
The foundation comes nicely packaged in a box with the instructions and information on the back. Inside the box, is a glass bottle with a pull on/ push on black lid. The foundation is released using a push dispenser and I tend to find that a couple of pushes of this is enough for use on my face.
When I dispense the foundation, I was at first a bit disappointed because it seemed to be too runny to provide any coverage luminous or otherwise. However, a quick but vigorous shake of the bottle soon sorted this out. The foundation itself has no smell and is more a lotion than a cream but still feels creamy when applied to the skin. It is absorbed easily and does give a nice luminous coverage- not good for those who like a matt coverage. It does cover imperfections but still gives a good coverage and if you get a colour very close to your own skin tone, it hardly looks there, which I like.
It tends to last me most of the day although obviously it's not as flawless at the end of the day as it is when first applied.
The instructions tell me to shake the bottle- obviously I found this out when I first used it.
To use the foundation you should dot a little where you need it the most usually cheeks nose and chin. Blend the foundation with fingers or sponge working downwards and outwards from the centre of the face. If you need more coverage, i find the best way is to add a bit more of the foundation.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...
The foundation costs £15 for 30ml And is available instore and online at www.boots.com
I like this foundation. It gives me an even but light coverage which stays put for most of the day. A little goes a long way so it's good value, and has caused me no ill effects.
A recommended foundation

After trying several different foundations over the past year or 2, I finally came to this one (after receiving a £5 off voucher for No7!), as I couldn't find one that I was really happy with.
I use 1 and a half 'squirts' of this foundation and mix it with a blob of E45 essential moisturiser (about the size of a 20 pence piece). The colour is slightly darker than my skin, but it goes on really well and is smooth and even when applied.
I have found that it can last (looking alright!) from 6:00am through to 8:00pm or 9:00pm. However, this is on days when I haven't done much - if I spend the day running around the shops on a busy Saturday or doing some sort of exercise, I find that it doesn't last as long, probably around 4 or 5 hours less, which is still quite good!
My skin is quite dry, but this foundation (at least when mixed with moisturiser) doesn't give me any problems or drying my skin out, helping the foundation to stay even and balanced.
However, sometimes it does not have good coverage for me; I use No7 Quick Blemish Concealer first, which covers any blemishes or spots, and then I apply the foundation. I might just rub too hard, but sometimes blemishes become visible again, and I have to use the concealer stick again over the top of the foundation.
I buy this product from Boots for £15.00, and although this is quite pricey compared to some brands such as Maybelline and Rimmel, I would say it is worth it, as one bottle has lasted me about 5 months (using it almost every day) and there's still a good amount left! I wouldn't say you need to be a 'make- up expert artist' to use this foundation - it goes on really well and gives an even base.
As a fan of No7 make up and my best mate owning bottles of this stuff and saying she uses nothing else but this and then me needing foundation and not finding my bottle I used some of hers. I liked it and went out and bought it actually the next day as I was a little bit impressed by it to be honest!
30ml slightly frosted glass (but still see-through) bottle with a white plastic push button dispenser to the top of it and a black plastic lid/cap that covers that and pulls on and off with ease. On the lid in gold writing I'm told it is No7 and then on the bottle in grey writing and on the front I'm told it is Protect & Perfect Foundation, SPF 15 and that it's Hypo-allergenic. On the back of the bottle I'm told a bit about the product and how to use it, the colour is stated as is the size and contact details for Boots are given. Nice simple and robust bottle this is and I do like the ease of using the little push button to the top of it too!
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle:
Smooths and moisturises for younger looking skin and a flawless complexion.
To Use It:
Shake well before use. Blend smoothly and evenly with your fingers or a sponge.
Me Using It:
Well you can use this directly onto your face, over moisturiser or primer it's all up to you of course. Personally I always moisturise my face first and let said moisturiser soak in a bit then I dot a couple of pumps of this onto my fingers, dab it over my face and then use a foundation brush but of course you can use your own method if preferred!
This glides on the face with ease as it is rather moist and well it is liquid really! It blends easily and evenly and once on the face looks bright, clean and rather more luminous! It softens lines, doesn't soak into open pores and really it just acts as a mask without looking heavy but sort of masks problems! It covers spots well too and I've noticed it really does brighten up bags under my eyes too!
I find once on it gives all day (or night) coverage with no clogging over time, it keeps grease (oily t-zone) at bay and doesn't ever irritate my oily skin! It doesn't transfer off or melt or anything else unsightly over time and really does simply make my skin radiant and healthy looking!
Removing it is a breeze and what's more although this costs about £15.00 a bottle it lasts ages cos you don't need much at all!
Available in a few colour options I love the consistency of this lightweight but medium coverage foundation very much and sometimes in life you really do get what you pay for and this really is a good example of this theory!
Only available in Boots stores!

I have recently become a convert to the No7 Protect and Perfect range, having bought the beauty serum and day cream so I decided to invest in the foundation as well to complete the set.
This particular foundation was purchased from boots.com so I used the online colour swatch to pick the colour I wanted. I picked the lightest shade as I have fair skin and don't like to make it look obvious that I am wearing lots of makeup but wanted something that evened out my skin tone and looked natural.
The foundation comes in a nice sized bottle with a small pump dispenser. The bottle seems fairly heavy duty so I don't think it would break if you accidentally dropped it on the carpet, and it has a nice frosted glass finish.
It is easy to apply, as most liquid foundation usually is, but I found I could use my fingers to easily blend it on my skin unlike other foundations I have tried where I have needed a makeup sponge and moisturiser to blend it properly.
A little goes a long way, I usually only have to press the pump twice to get enough foundation for full face coverage. It's not too thick or too runny, I feel that the consistency is about right.
It lasts all day, and even manages to stay on for the most part when I go for my lunchtime swim.
I love the look this foundation gives my skin when it's applied and blended, especially after using a face scrub. My skin looks fresher and more radiant and I'm very happy with the results.
I don't think it's all that expensive for foundation, at around £15 for a bottle, because the results it gives are very pleasing.
For a while, I've been looking for a really good foundation, as its coming into Autumn, and during the summer I just usually wear powder foundation. So my search began in Boots, where it usually does as I get Advantage Card Points, and personally I've never tried any Boots No 7. products before, but after looking at other Foundations, and failing to find my tone match, I saw Boots No 7. Protect and Perfect Foundation, and thought I'd give it a try to see how good it actually is, and as a little treat I thought I'd splash out on it a little.
Application of the Foundation was easy and simple, but most Foundations are fairly easy to apply and have never have any problems with applying liquid Foundation. And this particular foundation was very liquid-y, and was smooth, so it was very easy to apply on my face, and gave me a much better coverage, smooth and well covered, unlike more powder type Foundations, which can get give a more loose coverage, and can't always give the best coverage compared to liquid Foundations.
The end was result was really great. My skin looked bright, well covered and had a real radiant glow to it, which I really loved, and the Foundation made my skin feel soft and thankfully, the Foundation didn't leave my skin really dehydrated, like some previous Foundations leave my skin, and it didn't make my pores feel all clogged and greasy, thankfully. And the Foundation didn't need reapplying through the day, and lasts me around 12 hours, so a very amazing long lasting Foundation.
Boots No 7. Protect and Perfect Foundation is available at only Boots, and costs around £10-15, and often have No.7 deals on other products. Personally I would definitely recommend this Foundation, as its one of the best I've tried, and the results are really great, so I'll be buying this for a good long while from now on.
I am a big fan of other No. 7 products, particularly the mascara range, so was excited about trying this product when looking for a new foundation.
However, this proved to be one of the most disastrous make-up buys I have ever made.
I had some kind of reaction to the foundation which brought me out in small red rashy spots across my forehead and cheeks. My skin was angry, red and sore and took weeks to calm down. At first I had no idea what was causing the problem but soon realised the foundation was the culprit as it was the only beauty product I had changed. I stopped using it straight away and was forced to buy a new one from a different brand. A big waste of money. However, I gave the foundation to my sister who has used it ever since without any problems...so it's not all bad.
Clearly No. 7 foundation does not agree with all skin types but I would be surprised if this is a common problem. My advice would be to ask for a sample or tester to use at home for a few days before committing to buying the product.
Boots No.7 Proctect and Pefect Foundation is a foundation made for the more mature skin. It is one of the anti ageing type. It comes in a glass 30ml bottle. It has a light fragrant smell and the consistancy is creamy. Try a tester before you buy it. The coverage if great will hide blemishes easily without being too heavy and clogging pores, which can even excentuate wrinkles, especially around the eyes. You buy it from Boots. The colour range is extensive and there is a colour for every type of skin. It includes a sun factor of 15 which is useful on sunny days as you don't need to wear sun cream underneath, unless you need a higher factor cream. It comes with an easy to use pump dispenser.
I have been using this foundation since it came out and love it! I recently had a change to Max Factor Age Renew but after being dissapointed (by the colours) in this one I have returned to No. 7. It lasts around 2 months if you use about 2 pump actions.
You can compliment this foundation with the No 7 range of moisturisers.
I guarantee you will not be dissapointed with this product. Keep a look out for buy 2 get one free. It will last as long as you do not open it.
As soon as I saw the advert for this I went out to buy some the same day - I already used and liked the corresponding Protect and Perfect serum, but being very busy and rather blase with my skincare routine, I couldn't believe my luck when I saw this - the ingenious combination of mixing an anti-ageing product (which I try to use, but manage only sporadically in reality!) with a foundation (which I use every day religiously!).
The product comes in a pump container which keeps it extra hygienic (no germs from fingers transferring into a pot). Coverage is light-medium and not high - however I find this a plus because it allows some natural glow to come through and does not look mask like. It spreads evenly and applies consistently without caking.
The product is quite expensive (seems to vary from Boots to Boots in London, but around about £20 a pop) but often on some sort of offer (e.g. 3 for 2). If you're prepared to give up your usual anti-ageing products for a normal moisturiser thanks to the anti ageing properties of this foundation, then you might also make a saving there. A little also seems to go a long way, so it is more economical than it looks.
All in all, this is the best foundation I've ever used and I will be sticking with it. One star does get deducted because the lightest shade currently available is still ever so slightly too dark for me - I stick with it because all the benefits outlined above are too great for that to put me off.
Soften the appearance of lines and blemishes for a beautiful, even glow!
