I don't use a lot of make up,however I do enjoy painting my nails! During the winter months I find my nails tend to break and split. This is not only unsightly,but can also be painful. I started using Boots No 7 smooth base coat nail varnish several months ago and really find it helps!

The nail varnish comes in a small ml glass bottle and has an application brush attached to the screw top lid. Boots say that using this clear varnish will not only prolong the life of any coloured top coat you apply,but will also help to strengthen your nails against breakage and splitting. I do not often wear coloured nail varnish on my finger nails,so haven't tried using this as a base coat. However as a prevention against breakage,I can highly recommend this varnish! I find it really easy to apply and think one coat is enough. It glides on easily and doesn't tend to smudge. I also find it to be quick drying.

Unlike coloured nail varnish, when you chip clear varnish it obviously doesn't show as much. I really like the shine this varnish gives my nails as it makes me feel more confident. I usually find one application will last me for about a week before I need to remove it and reapply. Removing the polish is easy with any nail varnish remover. I tend to use ones with added moisturiser.

The base coat is available in Boots stores and from the Boots web site. It is often part of a 3 for 2 offer promotion. A lovely clear base coat,that I think is well worth the money!
