Please note that Dooyoo have not used the image that accompanied my product suggestion and the one shown above is for the No 7 Amazing Eyes. I have requested they update with the correct image.
I've been a regular user of Boots No 7 make up for as long as I can possibly remember and will make my purchases when I have a £5 discount voucher or on those occasions when the products are on special offer. I favour black eye pencils and would previously purchase No 7's Amazing Eyes. However, when stocking up on a few items a month or so ago I was intrigued to learn of the newly introduced Stay Perfect Intense, so my purchase was made with this review discussing my experience.
Stay Perfect is identical in thickness as that of a writing pencil, so is easily gripped as opposed to those jumbo style pencils, which I have struggled to use in the past. The black pencil measures 12 cm in length, which I believe to be the average size when making a comparison with other brands. Unfortunately, the lid in relation to the sponged area of Amazing Eyes would constantly detach itself, which wasn't really a problem for me, particularly as I rarely used the sponge. However, the design of Stay Perfect Intense is a significant improvement, as the lid is secure as well as being easily removed and replaced.
When initially purchased, the pencil offers a tapered tip, so is ready to apply without the need for sharpening. The pencil enables a comfortable and easy grip and I begin at the inner corner of the waterline and gently press down as I slowly move the pencil outwards in one sweep with a slight sexy upwards flick. As the pencil is extremely soft and enables an effortless application, I find that the tapered tip wears down rather quickly and is in need of sharpening every other day as opposed to every three as with Amazing Eyes. It is impossible to use the pencil without a good tip, as I found that I was also coating the skin situated just beneath my lash line, which resulted in me having to use a corrector pen to remove any excess colour.
However, practice makes perfect where I discovered that less pressure was required during application. I would wholeheartedly agree with the product name as the appearance of the eye liner is extremely intense due to the easily achieved solid line and I would describe the colour as the blackest of blacks, as it is far superior to that offered by Amazing Eyes. Whilst the eyeliner offers a pencil consistency, its appearance on the eyes is almost identical to that of a liquid liner although significantly bolder. The beauty of the pencil is that I am able to obtain an extremely defined, dramatic and sultry appearance within just a few seconds although a very steady hand is required as otherwise the eyeliner can appear a little too heavy. An issue I have suffered with a number of brands is that small particles of colour would flake into my eyes when applying or during the period that I wore the eyeliner. However, I cannot report of any similar issues when wearing this product.
Despite having applied only one layer of colour to each eye without the need for a lunchtime touch up, I was amazed at the longevity, as the eye liner remains perfect until I am ready to remove it some 10 - 11 hours later, which is an effortless task with the aid of a little baby lotion and cotton wool. This by far exceeds any other brand that I've used, which can often partially disappear after a couple of hours of application, particularly on the inner section of the waterline. On a few occasions I have worn the pencil on the upper eyelids although due to its high level of bold intensity, it can be a little too dramatic for the office and is more suited for evening wear.
I cannot speak of my experience with smudging the eyeliner, as this is a look that I don't generally favour. However, I am providing a link, which will take you directly to the product on the Boots website where you can click on the Youtube link to see the eyeliner being professionally applied.
As you have no doubt guessed, I am extremely satisfied with my newly found purchase and due to the reasons discussed above I am awarding a five star rating together with a high recommendation. I considered removing one star due to the fact that the pencil needs regular sharpening, but the positives far outweigh this one minor negative. Boots No 7 Stay Perfect Intense is available in black and retails at £6.50 although the best time to purchase is during one of No 7's frequent "three for two" promotions.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
