“ Brand: Boots / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
Every girl has a product they reach for in times of beauty crisis. It might be that foundation that makes your skin glow like a baby's after an all-nighter, it might be that lipgloss that gives you a pout to rival Laurel Baccall in the depths of chapped February. For me, it's black waterproof mascara - I feel naked and completely unpresentable without it.
The mascara comes in a slightly curvy, plastic blue tube with gold text. It's classy and unobtrusive enough to pop inside your handbag or to leave out on your dressing table.
Boots No 7 mascara does the job adequately, but it's not the best eyelash lengthener on the market, largely thanks to its consistency. When I first purchased it, I was quite happy with the very moist liquid that I was applying, but after a week or two, I found mine thickened up considerably, making it difficult to apply evenly.
Though the shape of the tube makes it easy to hold, the brush is dreadful. It's straight and rather thick, and tends not to apply to the thin end of the lash very well. I ended up having to use a brush from another mascara to get it on properly, and even then, I wasn't very impressed with the lengthening effect.
Waterproofing and durability
I buy waterproof mascara not because I'm an emotional wreck liable to cry every too minutes, but because I work long days and I find that I need something extra-tough if I'm not going to look like a panda by about 15.00. Here, too, this product falls down - though it's reasonably resistant to water, it's not completely so, and it will run if your waterworks do suddenly switch on. What's worse, it tends to flake after a few hours, meaning that you're left with that annoying panda-effect.
Given that this product costs a tenner, its performance is disappointing. Max Factor and Revlon both make cheaper waterproof mascaras that blow this out of the water when it comes to quality. My personal favourite, however, remains Rubie and Millie's stylish silver mascara, costing just a pound more than this one, but in a different league when it comes to luscious lashes.
I was preparing for my summer holiday in Greece, and packing my bag when I realised that the only mascara I had was volumising or curling, living in London I never had the need for waterproof! So I went down to Boots to find a trusty waterproof mascara. I choose number 7 because I have some other trustworthy stuff from there and my friend recommended it. When i got back I tried it on and was happy with it. It was a bit clumpy which was disappointing considering it was the first time. But it was waterproof and did the job!
I've never been much for wearing lots of heavy makeup, but I do like to wear a bit of mascara if I go out anywhere. Unfortunately I have a nasty habit of rubbing my eyes without thinking, so I often end up looking like a bit of a panda! So when my hubby said he'd take me shopping for my birthday earlier this year I decided to get a bit of advice from some friends, and then try a new mascara.
I chose this particular mascara because even when it's a gift, I resent paying over the odds for something, and some other brands were twice the price of this, which was quite reasonable at only £6, and at the time due to a special offer, I got a free gift & extra reward points if I spent over £10 (Yes I bought some lippy and eye shadow too lol).
I am now definitely a fan of this product, it doesn't smudge when I rub my eyes, or wash off with ordinary soap and water, it looks good, and doesn't clump on application either which is a problem I've had in the past. If you use a decent eye makeup remover, it comes off easily enough at the end of the day. It does sting a bit if you get it in you eye, but then I've not yet found a mascara which doesn't, and at least it doesn't trickle down your face while your eye is watering!
It comes in two colours, black and brown/black which is my personal preference as it give a good length and thickness without looking too unnatural and obvious for everyday use.
I don't know how it reacts with chlorine or sea water, as I'm not much of a swimmer these days, but for normal wear, its just great! It comes in a silvery container, with gold writing, and actually compared to some packaging looks quite stylish, not that I'm much of a sucker for packaging, but it is a nice touch. I bought this tube in March, and its still going strong, difficult to tell how much is actually left, but it doesn't appear to be running out yet, and it hasn't dried up at all either.
I would certainly recommend this product to anyone, as so far I've not found any problems at all with it. *Finally ran out about a year after I bought it!*
Every girl loves to get the tip top selection of make up but beware waterproof mascara from boots means bye bye beautiful eyelashes. it has been tested that a superdrug waterproof mascara and boots waterproof mascara has a chemical in it that A:makes you eyelashes waterproof, but! B:it brittles your eyelashes twice as fast. this chemical does brittle your eyelashes faster. Now most girls know that if you wear mascara too often it will brake your eyelashes but using this speeds up that process and within a year or so your wonderful eyelashes could be no more. so becareful if you want to get a waterproof mascara next time splash out a bit and spend a little bit more on your eyelashes!
I always try out many different products before deciding which one I'm going to stick with, that's why I bought No.7 ultimate waterproof mascara......I wasn't disapointed! It comes in a long slim grey tube, and the wand is rather on the large side, (which I personally prefer but this is down to individual taste). On application I was VERY suprised that I didn't need to wipe the wand on a tissue first to wipe off the excess, the tube is narrow at the top and as you pull the wand out the excess wipes off automatically. The best thing is that it doesn't clump as it's easy to apply just the right ammount. All in all it does exactly what it say's on the tube, it's waterproof and it is the ultimate mascara. I'm sorry but I really cant remember how much it was....but I'll make it my mission to find out and add the info to this opinion.
I'm not a big makeup person - but I had to wear some for my wedding day, and I went and bought a whole lot of No 7 stuff, including their waterproof mascara. The lady at the No. 7 counter was great, very helpful, and not patronising like I have found at other makeup counters. Amoungst other stuff, I got the waterproof mascara - very important it didn't run if I had a blub on the day! It seemed easy to put on, and stayed in place all day. It came off easily with No. 7 eye-make up remover. There are a few colours available, though I only got black. Should it ever run out (I don't wear very much!) I'll certainly replace it with No. 7.
