Advantages: Produces a solid, opaque lasting line; doesn't sting eyes
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive
I have mixed feelings about Boots No.7 products; some I've been very pleased with, such as their foundations, eye pencils and lipglosses, and some I've found very disappointing, such as the somewhat notorious 'Extravagant Lashes' mascara with a peculiar applicator, and the trio eyeshadows.
I decided to try the No.7 Amazing Eyes Liquid Eye Liner in order to take advantage of one of the No.7 promotions that are offered from time to time; usually a selection of free samples of products if you spend over £20 or so. I like to use liquid eyeliner because of the very strong definition effect that it achieves, and I've found some brands are much better than others; the 17 one is not fantastic; Rimmel Exaggerate is pretty good, and so on.
When I first bought No.7 Amazing Eyes Liquid Eyeliner, it was packaged in a container bearing a resemblance in shape to an inkwell with a pen protruding from it; a tube with a rounded, wider end. Nowadays it is supplied in a straightforward black, shiny cylindrical tube with gold lettering, which looks elegant. The lettering does wear off in a make up bag after a few weeks, though. It costs £8.50 for 4ml, which may not sound a lot, but it lasts at least three months with daily use in my experience, and anyway, it should ideally be used within 6 months or so of opening, because of the eyes' susceptibility to excessive bacteria levels that may build up.
When the eyeliner is opened, there is a brush attached to the lid, with which the product should be applied. It is a nice, fine, flexible brush, and it deposits an ideal amount of the liquid onto the upper lashline. You can draw quite a fine line with it, and go back over it to create a thicker line if you so wish. Make up artists often recommend resting your hand on your cheek in order to steady it, to ensure that you get a neat line. Flicking the line up at the outer corners of the eyes gives you a glamorous, wide-eyed look.
Some liquid eyeliners are too watery for creating a good, solid line, but this No.7 product has the perfect consistency for a solid, black, opaque line. It doesn't crumble throughout the day, and lasts well. It is easy to remove with a simple cosmetics wipe. It doesn't sting the skin around the eyes. It is now my favourite liquid eyeliner, with Rimmel Exaggerate second best (its brush tends to shed fibres and become thin after a while; not a problem I've noticed with this No.7 product), and NYC (available from Superdrug) providing my budget option.
£8.50 may be considered fairly expensive, but it's worth looking out for the £5 beauty vouchers and special deals that Boots sometimes offer.
Summary: This is one of the best liquid eyeliners I have used!
