Advantages: Allows you to paint professional looking lines.
Disadvantages: The brush dries up midway through painting on your lines.
My brother got married recently and I was told to glam myself up by my parents prior to the event. I'm not usually the type to plaster myself with make-up and prefer a much more natural look. I actually rarely wear eyeliner because I've always found it tricky to apply and it's difficult to find the right product for the right effect. I was told by my sister to get this product, Boots's No. 7 range Amazing Eyes Liner, and took her advice.
This is sold at Boots the Chemist and is part of their exclusive No.7 make-up range. Their products tend to be a bit pricey and this one is no exception costing the best part of ten pounds. Perks of paying extra are things like being able to consult the No.7 make-up experts in store.
The product comes in a short little tube which is sized at 4mls. It's a black plastic case with very little information printed onto it. Boots do say this is hypo-allergenic and that it provides a "smudge free and precise" finish.
The top has a screw off style mechanism and when you pull out the wand it is very thin. You can't place the wand down on it's end due to the top being slightly rounded. The wand is just over two inches in length and is a good length for being able to hold it comfortably. The wand has a very fine brush at the end which measures just shy of one centimetre long. The brush is flexible and delicate. It does not suck up a lot of liquid and doesn't drip.
I have the shade 'Black' and I find it's a deep, striking jet black which looks dark and prominant after you've applied it to your skin. Due to the brush being quite thin though I do find that the application process isn't completely made easy. I can reach the end of my line and find the liquid thinning so have to dip my wand back into the tube and return to the line. It would be nice to be able to draw a full line without the liquid thinning so much.
The eyeliner liquid dries instantly which is excellent. If you want to create a dramtic look then several layers of liquid liner does the trick and will take slightly longer to dry. I really like the effect of the eyeliner. The style of the brush means you can create very artistic looking lines and achieve those little flicks at the corner of your eyes that look professionally painted. You can choose to paint using the very tip of the brush for thinner lines or press down onto the shaft of the brush for those thicker, heavier lines. Either way it looks good.
I have always had problems with eyeliners as it's just so difficult to get the lines right and this eyeliner is not foolproof. I really needed to practice with this to be able to paint the line in a sleek sweep without making it look like a spider has crawled through the eyeliner. I do find the length of the wand to be helpful and the size and length of the brush factors that help me achieve a reasonable result however. This eyeliner gives a very different look to pencil eyeliners - there is no cloudyness or smudging. It is instead similar to the gel eyeliners that are currently quite trendy.
Once the eyeliner is on it doesn't melt on my skin or fade away which is great. I find the eyeliner easy to remove. You can infact wipe it away with a bit of saliva on a paper tissue if you really need to! Otherwise eye make-up remover liquid or facial cleanser will do it. To remove any mistakes during application I advise having a damp cotton bud to hand.
I'm quite happy with this product and it does help me to get the look I'm after. It does have a short shelf life of six months though and the fragrance of the product is rather similar to nail varnish remover. I also do find you need to dip your brush back into the pot half way through application. However, it allows me to change up my look by enabling me to paint either dainty highlighting lines or dense take-me-to-the-club style lines.
I would buy this again and also recommend it to friends. Price wise it compares well with other liquid gel eyeliners I've seen on the market so I'd say it was an average price.

Summary: Quite good product and one that I'd buy again.
