      A good mascara

For so long, I have been using Maybelline mascaras because I know they have the kinds of brushes I like. However, I wanted to try something a little different and a little bit more expensive this time around. I've always liked products in the No. 7 range so thought I would try one of these. What I ended up with was the No. 7 Exquisite Curl Mascara. I chose this one in particular because my eyelashes are pretty straight and definitely need some help in the curl department.

The mascara comes in a very girly, metallic pink tube. I absolutely love the colour of the packaging and this is what drew me to look at it in the first place. The text on the packaging is quite simple, stating the No. 7 logo, the name of the mascara and a description which reads; 'For beautiful curve and volume.' Some mascara tubes are extremely bright and busy looking depending on the brand you buy so it was nice to see something which was much more simple.

I'm not a fan of these new, strange mascara wands. I like a classic mascara wand which is another reason why I bought this particular product. As you unscrew the lid and pull out the wand, you can see it is a lovely thick wand which is covered in nice, dark mascara. The wand is also curved instead of being straight which is something I would have expected with a curling mascara. A little too much does come out with the wand but this is easily wiped off on the mascara tube.

Applying the mascara is exactly how you would with any other - start at the roots and work outwards. After applying the first coat, I instantly noticed some added curl to my lashes although the volume was not fantastic. With only one coat though, this mascara did separate my lashes really well and there weren't any clumps whatsoever. After a second coat, my lashes were curled a bit more and there was a lot more volume, which resulted in a look that I liked very much. As I bought the black version (also available in brown), my lashes were also very dark.

This mascara did a pretty good job of doing what it said it would. I also tried using this product with the additional help of eyelash curlers. By using these as well, my eyelashes ended up having fantastic curl to them and great volume. While this product does work well on its own (for people with already curly lashes) I prefer to use it with the eyelash curlers.

The No. 7 Exquisite Curl Mascara costs £11.

      No7 Exquisite Curl mascara

I was on the look out for new mascaras and this is one of them I decided on because I usually find that I like No 7 products.

The ,mascara is advertised as being for curvy lashes with a sexy flutter and promises to make lashes more volumised and with a long lasting curl.

The product costs £11 and is available in black or brown; I chose the black. It can be bought in store at Boots or online at www.boots.com, and is a good one for picking up Boots points.

The mascara comes packaged in the usual mascara type tube. This one is a metallic red in colour with the name of the mascara on the front and information and instructions on the back.

The information about the product gives no promises about this being a super special mascara wand and when I unscrew the lid and take out the wand I do find that the mascara brush is what I would call "the usual". Its relatively short with short bristles going all the way round the wand. Brushes like this make me wonder how lashes can be separated as they tend to look clumpy, but I do sometimes get good results. The brush however is slightly arched which means that it will be easier to apply as it will work with the shape of my lashes rather than being straight and smudging in the corners

When I use it, the wand does pick up a lot of the colour but it's not falling off the wand or hanging in clumps as I have found with some cheaper mascaras. It applies nice and easily and gives good coverage to my eye lashes. As expected, the shape of the brush means that the colour doesn't go onto the inner or outer corners of my eyes. it isn't waterproof and so comes off easily when I use my normal eye make up remover.the disadvantage is the fact that it's no good for if I go swimming or there is a heavy down pour, as the mascara can tend to come off my eye lashes. It also has a tendency to "fall" off my lashes and at the end of the day I can have black smudges under my eyes which isnt a grand look!

      FINAL THOUGHTS...

The mascara is easy to apply and makes my eye lashes very black, since it loads plenty of the colour onto the wand, and it also covers all of my lashes and not just the easy to get ones in the middle.

It lasts for an evening out as long as I don't rub at my eyes and it doesn't rain too much, and is easy to remove.

I don't see too much curling to my lashes, so although they are nice and black they just look like my own lashes but ever so slightly thicker, so it must be doing something.

I would say that for a decent mascara it's about average price. It doesn't do anything spectacular except colour my lashes, so it's not one I would be rushing out to buy again.

      Decent enough but forgettable.

      Thanks for reading

      Daniela xx

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

For the price tag, not worth it and try looking elsewhere (:

After watching a video about this girl talking about how amazing this mascara was, I had to run out and get it! Her lashes looked absolutely perfect and I wanted a piece of the action. Sadly, I didn't get the happy ending I hoped for... The brush itself is fairly big and that gave me the impression that it would also give me big lashes, but that wasn't the case; it just left me applying several layers to get my lashes to look even a little bit volumised.

      *Pros*
-Good packaging; It looks sleek and looks to be very durable which is nice
-Original bristles; some may favour the traditional bristles over the plastic brushes.
-Averagely priced; slightly high on the high-street scale, yet low for high-end

      *Cons*
-Exquisite.. not so much; it didn't do a whole lot of what it promised which was long, beautifully curled lashes
-Little product comes out; this again may be a pro for some, but for me, as I'm usually always in a rush, having to sit and spend 5minutes straight just applying mascara is not so ideal.
-Formulation not the best; To me, since the day I opened it, it just seems so dry, that could be a factor as to why so little comes out..

      *Details*
-Exclusively available in Boots stores nationwide
-Recommended retail price at £13 (with coupon, £8)
      ~I don't really think it's worth the £8 price tag sadly..~

      *My experience*
Since I was liking a lot more of a natural look with my make-up at the time, I decided to pick it up in the colour Brown/Black. For me, this would be much more wearable and can avoid that 'I'm obviously wearing 5 layers of mascara' look. I was in luck because at the time, I did have a No7 voucher which was nice.
The next day, when I was doing my make-up, I decided to try it out. As usual with all my mascaras, I curled by eyelashes and applied. ...Lets just say, to end up with ~Exquisite~ looking lashes were sadly much of an understatement. I so wanted to like this mascara a lot but within about a fortnight, it managed to get replaced by my previous, and trustworthy L'oreal telescopic. All in all, I would say this mascara gives a natural, yet defined look to your lashes, but there are many other more cheaper alternatives that do just as much of a good job to this one.

Hope you found it useful, any questions just let me know :)

A good mascara that gives pretty curly lashes

Make-up is a girl's best friend and we all seem to be on the endless quest to find a perfect mascara. Applying eye make-up is an easy way to enhance your look and there is a style that will suit everybody but the key ingredient that everyone needs to finish off their eye look is always a good black mascara. I was tempted into buying this No 7 Exquisite Curl Mascara when I had a £5.00 off voucher, and it came with the added bonus of a free eye shadow palette as well. Annoyingly the palette was naff, but thankfully the mascara was much better! This mascara costs £13.00 for a 7ml tube and is available exclusively from Boots, where you can purchase it through their high street stores, or online at www.boots.com

Product description: "No7 Exquisite Curl mascara, for curvy lashes with a sexy flutter. Lashes watch out - the latest mascara offering from No7 will coax them to a more beautifully curved and volumised look, with long lasting curl! The aptly named Exquisite Curl Mascara has a curved brush, tailored to enhance curl and volume. The unique formula with curl-setting polymer helps keep lashes lifted throughout the day. The result? It curls lashes by up to 90 degrees. Eyes look more open and lashes extended from root to tip - get ready to va va voom!"

This mascara comes in two different shades - either black or brown/black. I opted for plain old black because I like my lashes to look dark as this helps them to look more prominent, and it also suits my naturally dark hair colour. It comes in a purple coloured plastic tube with a long wand inside. The brush end is a little different to an ordinary mascara and has a curved shape to allow you to get super curly looking lashes.

The mascara brush is quite full and has a semi-circular shape that allows you to reach in and apply the mascara evenly to each eyelash. I usually apply by putting the mascara wand in close to the roots of my eye lashes, and then wiggling the brush side to side from the base up to the tips. I repeat the process across the width of my eye and give another quick swipe to neaten and separate. The consistency is quite thick and heavy but this does not add any volume to the lashes. Instead, they look lengthened and it gives a lovely curled effect which is very feminine. This is not a dramatic look mascara, and I usually wear it as part of my toned down day time look, to complement my natural looking eye make-up. The curl does indeed last all day as they claim, and my lashes stay looking just as neat and groomed by the end of the day as they did when I first put it on. It does not dry out my lashes, nor does it go flaky, run or smudge onto my skin.

The only negative point that I've noticed is that when 2 coats are applied the mascara becomes clumpy and looks very noticeable in a bad way. The thickness of the mascara means that it can be a little hard to get the brush out of the tube without tons being coated all over the brush (particularly the tip) so I always give a little wipe before I actually put it onto my eye lashes, to avoid overloading them and ending up with lumpy bits. This 7ml tube of mascara lasted me for about 6 months before it started to really dry out and became difficult to get it to spread from the brush onto my lashes. They say you should switch mascaras every 6 months anyway, but I hate feeling like I'm wasting leftover bits of the product and there still seemed to be a fair amount left in the tube. This was a shame as I had to end up throwing it away as it was too dried out to continue using, and I had really liked the look that this gave me.

This is a good product that is well suited to everyday wear. It will not give a dramatic lash look, but it does exactly as the name suggests, and gives lovely curled lashes that last all day. I would recommend Boots No 7 Exquisite Curl Mascara if you want a pretty, girly day to day look that will make your eyes look wider and more awake. No massive false lash effect here, but perfectly simple and ladylike lashes that are made for fluttering ;)

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        A great mascara

I brought this mascara a few months ago now and I've used it almost everyday.

The mascara comes in a lovely looking tube, it's a shimmery light purple colour with gold writing. It's your average length tube but, I'd say it's a 'slim' tube there seem to be alot of chunky mascara's about but this tube is not at all chunky. It has it's curve in the middle but it's a perfect size to fit into a make up bag without taking up to much room.
I wouldn't say the tube stands out in a crowd of mascaras as it's quite plain but, it's a very nice looking tube.

The mascara says it 'coaxes your lashes to a more beautifully curved and volumed look, with long lasting curl.'
When I brought the No7 Exquisite Curl mascara I expected it to give my lashes a good curl more than anything. My lashes are most definitely not curly and I find it hard to get them to have a curl so that's reason I purchased this, and because I had a £5 off voucher!
I've read a few reviews saying you don't need to curl your lashes when using this product but for me I still have to use eyelash curlers. If you have naturally curly lashes or lashes that curl with ease then I probably wouldn't use curlers.

On first use (after curling my lashes) I applied a coat of mascara. The wand is a nice size, it's not too big or small and it has a spoon effect to it. The mascara went on really well without any clumps and after one coat my lashes had lengthened very well and a slight curl was appearing, after a second coat my lashes looked lovely and long with a bit of volume and curl.
I was a little disappointed about the curl- I had expected more. But two coats gave my lashes a great day time look which was perfect for work.
I've since experimented a bit more with the mascara and I've put on a few more coats. Three coats of mascara gave a better curl but anything after that didn't make a difference to my lashes and they began to look a bit silly.

I find this mascara gives great length to my lashes and probably the best I've used so far to do that. The volume it gives is slightly above average but, if you want a 'going out look' I applied this mascara and then put another volumizing mascara over the top to give a bolder look.

As this is a No7 product you can only purchase it in Boots stores. It currently costs £13.00 but, Boots often have £5 off vouchers for No7 and 3 for 2 so it can be brought as part of a deal.

Overall I love this mascara and I will be purchasing the 7ml tube again when I run out. It fits easily into a make up bag without taking up alot of room and it gives a really good effect.
I've used many mascaras and so far this is the only one that hasn't clumped after many uses and however many coats I put on.
The wand is soft and gentle on my lashes which is good considering my last Boots mascara felt like a wired brush!
I like the fact you can get a day time look and then just add a basic cheap mascara to get a going out look.

The only slight disappointment to me is that it doesn't curl my lashes as much as I hoped it would but, it still gives a curl though and the length it gives my lashes is brilliant. So overall I recommend this mascara!

        4 Stars- Recommended.
(Hypoallergenic. Lasts 6 months after opening. The colour I use is 01 Black, it can also be purchased in Brown.)

This mascara when applied for the first few weeks I feel does give a nice slight curl, it's not lumpy or too black so it does have a good consistency. However, if you want more definition on the eyes this may not be the mascara for you. I found that it gives more of a natural look. Also, I found after a few weeks of use it didnt seem as good. I know mascaras should regularly be changed but it felt to me that after say ten uses it wasn't as good.

        Give it a try!

I bought my No 7 Exquisite curl mascara from eBay when browsing. I have been loyal to the No 7 brands and although they are all quite expensive, I love their range and quality of mascaras.
The exquisite curl is a fairly new one, although it isn't the latest.
This mascara comes in a light lilac colour in a tube with a lovely shape. The lid is easy to screw and unscrew and I've not had any problems with the mascara clumping up around the edge of the lid.
It is easy to spot among the rest of the No7 range due to its colour and is a very unique mascara in itself.

        Price and range:
        ...........................................

The No 7 mascaras are only sold at Boots, this mascara is currently sold at £13 for one 7ml sized tube.
£13 is an average price for one of the no 7 range, although it is fairly high when comparing it with other named mascaras.
This mascara can be bought in black or brown, however it doesn't come in a waterproof variation.
I always look for an online price before buying and managed to grab one of these mascaras for just £4 new from eBay which I was very pleased at. I would recommend buying it cheaper online or purchasing a smaller 4ml travel size if you haven't ever used it before as it is very unique.

        Using:
        ..............................................
This is advertised to be for 'beautiful curve and volume' and I personally think it lives up to its promise.
This mascara can take a few tries to get used to and it shouldn't be put off after the first try.
This mascara comes in a unique shape; the bristles have a slight 'U' shape to them to support the 'curve' effect of your eyelashes.
The bristles are in groups, each group is very close together to help with the 'volume' effect. With the formation of the bristles, eyelashes don't become clumped and I find it is very easy to use to get the effect you want.

When I first use this mascara, my eyelashes are flat and there isn't much effect. Because of this, I have to apply two or three layers. I find the first layer covers the lashes, the second layer helps to lift the lashes and the third layer gives the volume and curve I want.
Although having said this, I don't find the mascara runs out too quickly and I am happy with how long it has lasted me.
This mascara doesn't give you the huge fake eye lash effect like others do, which is another reason why I love it. However many girls who love to go for the big and wide result may want to go for an alternative.
On days such as parties where I want the 'fuller' look, I use this mascara as a base coat to get the curve and use my 'one million lashes' to add more volume and for an extra lift.

        Overall;
        ..........................................
This mascara isn't for everybody, it provides a lovely effect without making your eyes look too over the top. I will buy this mascara again and I am very happy with how long it lasts and its effects.
The price at boots is a little high, although you get what you pay for. I always buy online where possible although I would pay the £13 price if I had to as I am planning on using this mascara again.

Thank you for reading, I also post on Ciao

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Nothing special to say the least

Mascaras are the one thing I cannot be without in my make up bag and I refuse to leave the house without it as my natural eyelashes really don't look great to say the least. Finding the perfect mascara that is able to achieve everything I am wanting is something I am yet to come across such a product! Because of this I often result to wearing false eyelashes, which I don't particularly like all that much however having been unable to find a mascara that properly does the trick, it is my only alternative! I tend to buy any new products I come across in the hope they will end my search, why is how I came across this mascara by No7...

I have never been a massive fan of No7 products if I'm honest, although I can't say I have tried many (I can say their nail varnishes are pretty good!) simply because the prices always seem too high and while I don't mind paying the price for a quality make up product, when they are in theory a Boots own brand product but just with a bit of glorification I really can't justify spending that amount. However in saying that, I have made the odd purchase from time to time during periods when they have offers on as it makes me feel as though I am getting a bargain, but in hindsight I don't really think I ever was getting much of a bargain! It was their 3 for 2 offer that initially attracted me as I felt I would be getting more of my moneys worth. I ended up buying this mascara after being drawn to the name which seemed to be the answer to all my problems.

At £13 this is edging towards the more premium priced end in terms of mascaras in general so I was excepting somewhat exceptional quality. To look at it hasn't been designed in the most attractive way in the least as the bottle itself is pretty plain with nothing particularly original about it. The colour is quite interesting with a grey/purple sort of tint to it which is quite unusual. It has No7 logo and the product name with other information i.e shelf life around the bottle in white which isn't the easiest to read but its not impossible. The wand has quite separated bristles which is nice compared to others I have tried recently which are all bunched together, often making it difficult to separate the lashes during application. It doesn't have a particular scent and it doesn't smell very perfumed to me, just quite neutral.

When it came to application I removed the wand from the bottle as I would with any other mascara, noticing that it seemed to have a good, fairly thick and even coverage of mascara on it so I was hoping this would transfer to my eyelashes. I used a zig zag type action with the wand as I often find this gives my lashes maximum coverage and I thought this would work particularly well considered the wand itself has a curved shape to it so I was anticipating long, volumised lashes with a curl that looked as if it had been created with eyelashes curlers. Instead, I was greeted by my lashes not looking much different to how they had looked before I applied any mascara at all in terms of length, but a very slight curve had been created and I only noticed it due to my lashes usually being poker straight. In no way at all was this the result I was expecting. After giving it the benefit of the doubt I applied some more coats of the product onto my eyelashes, thinking this would elaborate and enhance the earlier results. Instead my eyelashes felt really wet and took sometime to dry - but they looked very familiar still to how they had looked earlier.

While my eyelashes did have a very slight curve in them, it was barely noticeable and not the 'exquisite curl' I had been hoping it. The look was very natural and not at all what I was expecting from the product as I was seeking a much more dramatic finish that this claims to offer. If you are someone who is looking for a natural every day look with a product that will very slightly enhance your natural traits then this will not disappoint you, but when it comes to a night out you might find this is what you want. I certainly would not use this product by itself to create either a day or night time look as it doesn't do anywhere near enough for me as even during the day I like my eyelashes to look volumised and defined. It certainly does not deliver on what it is marketing as the curl (you can't even call it a curl!) is only just about visible upon close inspection.

Overall I feel this is a waste of money as I was expecting much more for a premium price tagged product however it failed to create the look I was expecting. The natural look isn't what I was wanting and I definitely would not recommend this to anyone who is looking for something similar to myself and something a little bit out of the ordinary as lets face it, any mascara can create a reasonable day time look - this is nothing special at all and I can safely say I won't be buying it again.

          decent product but too expensive

I bought this because Boots were offering 3 for 2 on their No 7 range so I thought i'd give it a try. I weraq mascara most days and always get nice comments about how long and thick my lashes look so I would not compromise on a product that's not great. Also, I firmly believe you do not need to spend too much or buy the most expensive brands to get the best results. My favourite is Rimmel, 90% of the time I use them, and No 7 will not be steering me away.

The wand on this mascara is nice, it is a bristly brush as opposed to a comb, so I found it did make it easy enough to apply and made my lashes quite thick. The mascara is not too thick, it did not form any clumps but also it is not too thin making it difficult to apply a decent amount. The brush is curved, in order to live up to its claims to make your lashes curly I presume. This was fine, I didnt find it tricky to get used to and did help make them have a nice curve, even without using eye lash curlers which I do normally use.

Overall, it is a decent mascara, does a good job, but is not wow and is twice the price of other brands that are just as good.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A mascara with a nice brush that gives a lovely gentle curl with a lengthening effect :)

I've tried quite a few No7 mascaras in the past, but as usually new releases seem to be combined with No7 voucher, I can't help but give them a try. :)
This latest mascara claims to curl lashes whilst making them appear longer. Now, I was very doubtful that any mascara could curl lashes by itself, but I was curious.

Packaging: No7 mascaras never look particularly amazing when it comes to packaging, they're quite simple in style. This one is long and slim with a purple shimmer to it, it's certainly not ugly looking, but it's not very modern and appealing to the eye either. It's a bit of a pet peeve with me and No7, some of their limited collections have some very cute packaging, like their spring collection and their Poppy King line of lipsticks, but I wish they would use these ideas in their normal lines.

Price: At £13 this is quite an extravagant buy, especially for drugstore brand, Mac prices aren't much more than this! I would recommend waiting for the £5 off vouchers if you want to try this one and only pay full price if you have tried it and know you love it, but that's just me, I like a bargain. ;) For £13, I expect a lot from a mascara.

Product: The mascara itself has a curved brush, it's also quite a bristley brush which I like, I can't stand comb brushes, it's also not TOO big, but I was still not sure about the curve. The forumla has a nice consistency, it's not runny like some mascaras and clings to the brush quite well, I've also had mine for a few weeks now and it seems to be holding up quite well, some mascaras seem to go "gloopy" quite quickly, but so far this seems fine.
Now for the testing, the application process was at first a little fiddly for me, but only because I wasn't entirely sure which way to face the curve of the brush, I finally decided on going with the natural shape of the eye, I'm still not entirely sure this is correct, but it seems to work for me. I was quite pleasantly surprised with this, it applies nicely to the lashes, it gives a naturally lengthened look and it actually does curl! It's not a huge curl that you would get from actual eyelash curlers, but the effect is there, it also looks natural which I liked. There's not too much volume, but one mascara can never do everything, that would be greedy! ;)
I do really like the look this mascara gives, I've even recently been using just the mascara instead of my eyelash curlers when I haven't had much time and have been quite happy with the result.

Summary: A surprisingly nice mascara if you want lashes that look naturally long and curled, if you want more of a volumizing mascara then it's probably not the best for it. I'm also not sure that it's entirely worth £13, but I would buy this again when the vouchers return.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          A good mascara.

As a red-head I have very fair lashes. Add to that the fact that what I do have are also quite short, fairly straight and reasonably sparse and you will realise why I depend on my mascara to make me look human!

I have tried various mascaras over the years but I have never found anything that I think is so wonderful that it has made me brand loyal. I tend to buy whatever I fancy and hope for the best. I had used No7 mascaras of varying types for years but after a disaster with their Extravagant lash product about 18 months ago I have been using other brands ever since. However finding myself in Boots with a £5 voucher in my hand for No7 and a dried up mascara at home I decided to give the brand another try.

The No7 stand had several mascaras to choose from but my eyes were immediately drawn to the Exquisite Curl product. The word Curl will always attract me due to the pathetic straightness of my own lashes and my sheer laziness in not being bothered with digging out my eyelash curlers except for special occasions. The product is supplied in an attractive grey/purple metallic looking tube and promises "beautiful curve and volume". Sounding like my perfect product it was soon in my shopping basket on the way to the till. There were two shades to choose from, either black or brown/black. I opted for the brown/black shade as the black is a little too harsh with my colouring.

The next morning I was looking forward to trying my new product. I am easily pleased and can get quite excited about trying out any new cosmetic that comes my way. I had read the information on the back of the tube and it mentions coaxing my lashes to look curved and volumised and promised I would be left with a long lasting curl. The product is hypo-allergenic and should be discarded 6 months after opening because of the risk of contamination which in an eye-product can lead to nasty infections.

As I extracted the wand from the tube the first thing that I noticed was that the brush did not seem a tight fit as it came out of the neck of the tube. The last couple of mascaras that I have used need more of a yank to get them out of the tube but it does result in less excess mascara on the brush however I was surprised to find that even though this came out easily there did not seem to be too much product on the wand.
The brush itself is curved with many short, flexible bristles. I wasn't quite sure how well this would work but set about the application. I was immediately impressed that the wand seemed to deliver just the right amount of mascara to my lashes and although I thought it might be a bit cumbersome it was actually really easy to use. It got right to the base of the lashes without depositing extra mascara in the wrong places and it even reached the shorter lashes in the inner corners without any problem. In fact I think this brush enabled me to apply my mascara quicker than ever and in the mornings in my house every second counts!

Having quickly applied to the product it was time to evaluate the results. For day-time wear I often only apply one coat as I really don't have time to bother with a second coat. With just the one coat I was very pleased with the distribution. My lashes all appeared to be evenly coated with a nice colour and a very slight sheen which I liked. I also felt that they did, indeed, look slightly thicker which considering the little stragglers that I start out with is very important to me. Assessing the curl was a little more difficult. I did feel that there was definitely a slight degree of curling but certainly nothing very dramatic, I do wonder if your lashes already have a certain amount of natural curl whether this product would actually work better.

When going out in the evening I have used two coats and found that my lashes look really quite thick and healthy but probably without much extra curl. One of the other things I have noticed about this mascara that I like is that it doesn't make my lashes feel dry or stiff, if I am going out in the evening and I haven't removed my day make-up I can easily just pop on another coat and my lashes still feel flexible and the second coat doesn't flake off the base coat.

By the end of the day I was still very pleased with this Exquisite Curl mascara. It stayed on really well, there was no flaking or smudging and my lashes still looked good. The one advantage of virtually transparent lashes is that you soon notice when mascara doesn't stay put! Removal was easy enough with a make-up remover wipe, it came off without the need to scrub. The product is not waterproof and I have not tried it out when swimming or at the gym but I presume it would not stand up to these tests quite so well.

At full price this mascara is £13 but I purchased it with my £5 voucher and collected advantage card points so I didn't think it was bad value. I have been really pleased with the performance. It gives me nice, healthy looking lashes that look great all day. The curl may not be fantastic but I love everything about this one so I do hope Boots don't discontinue it any day soon as I think I have just become brand loyal!

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Excellent mascara from Boots - don't expect miracles however!

If there's one thing that makes me very nervous it's an eyelash curler. Over the years I have tried, and failed, to master the art of curling my eyelashes - as soon as the metal moves close to my lashes I wimp out and can't go through with it.

As a result since the invention of the curling mascara, I have been using them instead to improve the shape of my lashes. For years I used a Maybelline curling mascara but this was discontinued a few years ago now. When I was browsing Boots a couple of weeks ago I spied a new mascara called Exquisite Curl and was immediately curious. I also had a coupon for 250 bonus Advantage Points if I were to spend £10 or more on a Boots No 7 product. Tantalisingly, the Exquisite Curl mascara, which has a RRP of £13, was on introductory offer at £10 - so I decided to buy it.

            ~~What It Claims To Do~~

The mascara declares it is for "beautiful curve and volume" on the wand, and then states it "coaxes your lashes to a more beautifully curved and volumised look, with long lasting curl".

Well as any woman who has turned 30 will tell you, volume tends to diminish in your lashes as you get older so I was quite taken with this. I have learned, however, that claims about volume in mascara advertisements can be very misleading - how many times have you seen TV or print ads with the disclaimer that the model is wearing lash "inserts" - meaning the volume more often than not has nothing to do with the mascara being advertised whatsoever.

As a result I must admit I took this claim with a healthy pinch of salt, but having seen the wand, which is curved, I thought the mascara was worth a punt.

            ~~My Thoughts~~

The mascara comes in a plastic tube, which is a metallic grey-lilac shade. It looks quite classy with the No7 logo on the top half of the packaging which contains the wand for application printed in gold. The gold lettering is simple and effective on the mascara and is rather eye catching too - certainly even before I realised this mascara was on offer I had been drawn to it on the shelf.

As I expected because this is a curling mascara, the brush on the wand is curved. The curve is designed to add a curl to your lashes as you apply the product.

My first thoughts when I took the wand out was delight at not being met with a huge clump of black at the end of the wand. This is an acid test for me with mascaras - if my first view of mascara is a large black bit hanging from the end of the brush I tend to find I am not going to be a repeat customer.

Application is no different from any other mascara although you do have to use this with the indent in the brush facing downwards for the curl feature to work. I found it went on well - I noticed definition and curl after the first coat although I do feel this needs a second coat to add volume. The brush is good at separating the lashes as you apply the mascara and I was impressed at how I didn't have lashes clumped together as happens with some other mascaras I have used.

Boots claim the mascara will offer 90 degree curl on lashes and while I definitely did notice a curl, I am loathe to say it was 90 degrees - that seems a little on the optimistic side for me. I think if you are a regular user of eyelash curlers you may be disappointed with the level of curl offered by this product and as such I would say perhaps this should be called Exquisite Curve as it seems to curve rather than curl the lashes.

Once on I was generally impressed with the way it made my lashes look but there's no way you'll get thick lashes with an exaggerated curl with this mascara - expect better definition, a slight increase in volume and a bit of a curl upwards instead.

The mascara is fairly long lasting but it's not waterproof and I found mine ran quite easily when I was out in the wind and my eyes started to water. Obviously if you rub your eyes whilst forgetting you are wearing this mascara, expect your eyes to resemble those of a panda. Trust me, I know.

Removal is a piece of cake. I use St Ives cleansing wipes and they made light work of this. I was impressed at this because I can struggle with removal of some mascaras - so much so it makes my eyes hurt - so it's nice to know I can wear this and not fret about pain at removal time.

In conclusion I have been impressed with this mascara. I do think the claims are a little exaggerated but as someone who has such a pathological fear of eyelash curlers I find this mascara a good solution for me. I like the definition it gives to my lashes and how it doesn't clump on the brush or on my lashes. The volume you get isn't brilliant but the curl and definition make up for that.

I think for £13 this is a good mascara - the fact it is easy to apply and easy to remove is a great plus and the fact it is hypo-allergenic means there is no danger of it irritating delicate eyes.

Available exclusively in Boots in two shades - black or brown/black. £13 RRP for 7ml.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

An eye opening mascara with minimum fuss in shades Black or Brown

I went into Boots about a fortnight ago for nappies and somehow ended up buying 3 products from the Boots No7 range. I was shown their new mascara "Exquisite Curl" and the lady proceeded to sit me down and apply makeup to my pale makeup free face. After she finished I have to admit I no longer looked like a member of the cast from 'Dawn of the Dead' but like a healthy well slept individual.

The packaging: An attractive metallic silvery/purpley/browny colour tube with golden lettering and a screw on lid that holds the curved wand. Looks stylish and sophisticated.

The mascara: You can choose from Black or Brown - Hopefully they'll bring out other shades if it becomes popular enough. I chose 01 (Black) as I find brown shades tend to fade to an orangy shade on my lashes. The consistency of the mascara is perfect - not so thick that it clumps or too runny that you have to apply 5 coats to notice its on. The application is fantastic as well as the wand distributes the mascara evenly without clumping and I only require
              1 coat.

This mascara definently adds definition and curl and I would highly recommend this mascara for contact lens wearers as I've had no problem with it flaking. I should also add that it's currently reduced to £10 (normally £13) until the 23rd Feb 2011 and they also have a buy 3 pay for 2 offer on at the moment. I would normally hesitate to spend so much on a mascara as they should be replaced at least every 3 months but I really did like what it did to my lashes.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              A lash lovers' must-have!

I've been very lucky to be given the chance to test out No7's new, not even released yet Exquisite Curl Mascara, and I was very excited to do so as I love love love their Exceptional Definition Mascara.

              The product marketing blurb says:

"The aptly named Exquisite Curl Mascara has a curved brush, tailored to enhance curl and volume. The unique formula with curl-setting polymer helps keep lashes lifted throughout the day. The result? It curls lashes by up to 90 degrees. Eyes look more open and lashes extended from root to tip - get ready to va va voom!"

              and

"This mascara gives a lift to the lashes for a wide open-eyed look. The bend in the brush helps to manipulate the lashes in to place and get a good coating at the roots."

Lisa Eldridge, No7 make-up artist and creative director"

              I say:

I absolutely loved using this mascara, I could easily get away with just one coat (without my Clinique lash primer) and still get a fantastic curl - in fact I was so pleased with the curl that I've been able to stop using my heated eyelash curlers when using this product as the curl really is defined and just as importantly, it stays put - great for when you're in a rush, or running late (like I usually do).

Apparently this is down to 2 things, the first being the obvious curved brush which has been designed to enhance, curl and create volume; the second thing is a curl setting polymer that helps the curl to stay put all day long. Whatever it is, it really does work.

I had difficulty getting huge amounts of volume from the one coat, in fact I found that it actually gave more length than volume on my lashes (which isn't bad, as who doesn't want longer looking lashes?) but I did find that 2-3 coats gave much better volume.

The mascara consistency is quite thick, which I thought may cause a problem with coating the lashes, and also clumping but honestly there was hardly any - I think this was down to the brush being quite full and bristle-y (you can see this in the product picture, or if you like you can visit my blog to have a closer look).

I did need to work the lashes from the second coat to keep them separated, but this is quite the norm for me with most mascara to be honest!

I've already mentioned the staying power of the curl, but felt I should also mention that I was very impressed with the staying power of the mascara itself, again, without the use of any primer (to make it a fair test based purely on the mascara, not additional products giving it extra help). When wearing this, I've found that it stayed in place all day and evening too - granted I didn't cry or get soaked in the rain, but I did go out drinking, after wearing it during the day which I find is a great test for the durability in itself. I don't think it's waterproof, but I do think that it's as good as you'll get without it being so, for staying power.

As a side note, when twisting the mascara lid back shut, you actually feel a little bump (that's the best I can explain it) that tells you that the mascara tube is properly shut - I quite like this as it assures me that the mascara is closed and I won't come back to it dried out. I don't think I've really noticed this on my other tubes of mascara - I could be wrong, it could just be that I am paying more attention to this function at this particular time. Anyway, I'm rambling now - sorry about that.

The mascara, available in Black and Brown/Black goes on sale on the 26th January and will cost £13.00 for 7ml of product - I'd be more than happy to pay this, and will actually do so when this tube runs out.
