Advantages: Can't think of one!
Disadvantages: Messy, brush too thick, leaves lashes looking wet and clumpy.
At the time I purchased this, it was in a promotion where I would receive an eyeshadow palette for free if I bought this mascara which was new and had just came out at the time. It did not have a special introductory price as make-up often does when it is new to encourage people to buy it, but I had a £5 No7 voucher and so I thought it was a good price after using this, especially with the free gift. So instead of £12.50 I paid £7.50 for this Extravagant Lashes Mascara.
The tube is a pretty dark purple colour and quite fat compared to other mascara tubes I am used to. The brush itself is also fat and I was quite shocked when I saw the brush in the shop, but I just thought that it would help to build the extravagant lashes it stated it did.
"No7 Extravagant Lashes Mascara 12ml has a dramatic curling effect on lashes, with an incredibly clever formula that evenly coats lashes from root to tip, giving up to eight hours' curl and up to seven times the volume."
I tried the mascara out the next day and first impressions were not good. My lashes seemed to look very wet and felt very heavy on me after applying the mascara. It wasn't messy at first and it did stay on my lashes, at least I thought it did until I looked in the mirror five minutes later and noticed I had dots of black mascara all around my eyes. I have never used a mascara before that wipes off my lashes and onto the skin around my eyes so easily.
I cleaned the mess and applied another coat of this mascara, which was stupid of me to do. My lashes then stuck together and it took me some time to separate them and make them look good! So my advice is do not apply two coats of this mascara!
The fat brush also made it hard for me to reach my bottom lashes without making a mess, and so I didn't really attempt to do them with this mascara. I went on the Boots website to find this mascara and to see if anyone had wrote anything about it and if they were having the same problems as me. There was no reviews on it yet as it was new, but there was a few tips on how to apply this particular mascara.
Firstly, it said to use the corner of the brush to get right to the base of your lashes and sweep the brush upwards turning it slightly as you go for beautifully separated lifted and curled lashes. It then states that
there is no need to dip the brush back into the bottle as one dip allows for more than one application due to the innovative square brush shape, simply use another corner of the brush to either apply more product as needed or move to the other eye. I made this mistake as I am used to dipping the brush back into the bottle with all my other mascara's I have used. Lastly, it said for hard to reach bottom lashes wave the tip of the brush across the lashes for a beautifully defined look. However I tried this last tip for my bottom lashes but it still did not work, I ended up with mascara on my skin under my eye five minutes later again. I tried applying the mascara again following all of the above tips but I still ended up with the same bad results!
Even if this mascara did not make such a mess on my skin, it still wouldn't get many stars from me, as my lashes look very wet after applying this and end up clumpy. I am disappointed in this mascara and will definitely not be buying this one again!
Summary: Extravagantly messy mascara!
