Advantages: Good value, gives nice enough results
Disadvantages: No nail guides supplied
Firstly I must point out Dooyoos mistake! The photograph and name of this product I requested is completely wrong! Not my fault before I get lynched and I have queried this mistake with Dooyoo but until then I can't request another similar link as I simply get thrown back here lol.
So just to clarify I'm actually reviewing Boots French Manicure Kit! Not Boots No7 Manicure kit!
The Packaging...
Clear plastic square box with fuchsia coloured card to the back of the it. On the front I'm simply told it is Boots French Manicure Kit 3x 10ml (0.33 US FL.OZ) in small white writing. On the back of the box I'm given directions for use, ingredients are listed for each of the 3 bottles, warnings are given, there is a bar-code on there and finally there is a bar-code on there. Simple little box with no unnecessary information on there which I do appreciate!
The bottles (all 3) are square glass with opaque white lids that contain the brushes and on the front of each one I'm told what they are that they are Boots and then on the back warnings are given as are contact details for Boots. All very simple and the sizes are good for lots of applications.
Directions For Use...
Paint the tip or free edge of the nail with Nail Tip Whitener and allow to dry. Apply a coat of French Pink to the whole nail or two coats for more coverage. To finish, apply Top Coat to seal the nail colour and create shine.
Me Using It....
A very important thing to do when giving yourself a French manicure on either the finger or toes is to really make sure that nails really are in good condition because the look is so natural if you have any flaky nail or chips or bits or grub hiding this stuff will show it up so I advise you really do give them a good buff up before doing any kind of treatment like this first!
My fingernails are chewed to hell so for me I wanted this look on my toenails. I did as I was advised and filed my nails and ridded unsightly cuticles and then polished my nails one for one with a buffer till they were a good shape and tidy and clean looking.
As advised I took the nail whitener out of the the pack first and tried to apply a thin line to the tips neatly. First problem is that the brushes although excellent quality (no flaking and not too bristly) were hard to control due to the length of them. Again I advise you to get nail guides to make this easy cos doing this free hand is a messy nightmare if your not incredibly careful. The white varnish is rather thin as well so not only do you have to faff about trying to get it on you have to reapply it to get an even coverage and I find this fiddly and fussy to do. After a time though it looked ok but a little wonky but I consoled myself no one would examine too closley my tootsies and to battle on with the rest of the process! I will not be beaten lol.
Then once dried which only took a couple of minutes I then set about applying the very light peach 'French Pink' colour. This was smooth to apply and gave very even coverage although it is a rather runny and thin liquid I was pleased with the results. Be aware though that if you have discoloured nails because of the pinkish colour it does make nails appears even further discoloured so as I mentioned earlier preparation is key!
I would be happy to leave it at one coat of this but just because I'm used to applying two coats of colour of general nail polishes I decided to re apply and it all took again a few minutes to dry and when done the pink gave a subtle shine to my nails and coated over the top of the white nail tips making the whole look, look a little more subtle.
Then of course you apply the clear top coat over that to finish off. Once again this is quite runny in it's consistency but this really does give a lovely high quality shine and me, I'd use this on it's own or with other nail polishes as well just to protect the work I had already done. It's superb and really easy to use!
Once done and I sat down and took a look I was relatively pleased with the results. I worked hard to get it all looking decent and would say get nail guides or a mate to help you with applying this!
This set is high quality but not without it's flaws. The brushes could do with being a shorter for ease of use particular on the white nail tip whitener. However the results are glossy and for £7.50 for all the applications you get out of them it's a decent little buy it has to be said. I found the results to last me about a week which I think is excellent and it's all easy to remove if you want to as well!
Only available in Boots stores.
Summary: Not bad but could be better!
