I have not had a new mascara for some time. I have had No7 mascaras in the past and I have been very happy with all of the ones I have tried. I wondered into Boots to look for Christmas presents and of course I took my eye off of the main goal of my shopping to actually shop for myself. Tut tut. I could not help myself though as No7 had a good offer on with a free gift. In order to get my free gift I had to buy two makeup items, I could have bought just two nail varnishes which would be a very cheap way to get my free gift but I thought I might as well get a couple of things that I actually need and a mascara was one of them.
No7 have a vast range of mascaras and in all honesty I think I would have been very happy with whichever one I picked up. I made my choice though from the brush it came with as I like to use a thick brush, not any of the new straight and narrow ones which I find just make my lashes spidery with bits of clumped mascara.
So I went for intense volume. I am very lucky that I have very long eye lashes anyway and really they only need some definition with the colour. I nearly chose the brown/black colour as I thought this could give me a more natural look but as I do not really spend too much time on my make-up these days I thought perhaps I could do with the definition that I find that black mascaras give to my eyes.
Appearance and Price
The mascara comes in a very sleek metallic black colour which in different lights looks brown or purple. It has a brush which is described as having a traditional bristle style, it is how mascaras always used to be before all of the new types came to the surface! Sometimes traditional is best! It comes with 7ml of mascara which seems pretty standard these days. I like to check this as I feel that a lot of companies are extremely harsh to consumers today upping their prices and minimising the quantity you get. Whilst in Boots I checked this amount again Maxfactor which gives 9ml in their main mascaras. Clinique gives either 7 or 8ml in their mascaras. L'Oreal gave 7ml, Rimmel gave 8ml, a Dior one I picked up gave 10ml and so on. So I was happy with 7ml despite that it seemed to be the lowest amount out of most of them as the price was the most reasonable for it at £9.50. I was quite surprised to be honest that No7 still had mascaras under the £10.00 bracket, this also swayed my decision slightly in choosing my mascara as I am trying to save money at the moment and No7 did have mascaras at £11.00 which were instantly ruled out in my books.
This mascara comes in three different shades: black, black/brown or navy.
I did just want to add here for anybody who does not know the No7 brand well or for somebody who has not seen their advertisement that No7 is a brand exclusive to Boots stores and Boots.com. Due to this it means that Boots have constant promotions on with No7 so the advice I would give is to never purchase anything from No7 unless you are receiving some sort of promotion whether it is a money off coupon, free gift or other offer like 3 for 2. Currently their offer is buy 1 get 1 half price on selected cosmetics (correct on 01/01/14).
Another factor I would like to point out for anybody who does not know (as I used to work in Boots) is that the girls on No7 get commission for No7 products they put through the till. I often see people get advice at the No7 till and pop the products into their basket and then wonder off around the store and pay at the main till points. But I think it is nice to pay for the No7 products with the person who gave you the advice on No7 (if you think they were particularly helpful of course) and then they get their commission.
What is special about this mascara and my overall opinion
Well not only is it a hypo-allergenic mascara which means is causes fewer allergic reactions compared to products that are not hypo-allergenic. This does not mean that it will not cause an allergic reaction though because of course it still could. But I have quite sensitive eyes and I have absolutely no problem with No7 mascaras, or other No7 eye make-up for that matter.
This mascara is described as building volume whilst perfectly separating the lashes. This is what sounded perfect for me because my long lashes can often become quite clumped together and I need the separation of each lash to make my eyes stand out. The brush is big but not so big that it is hard to apply. It is the perfect size in my opinion. The size of the brush makes the application very easy and it does not need multiple layers. The only downside to the brush is that the end of it holds onto a lot of excess mascara fluid which means that when you want to coat the lashes right in the corner of the eye sometimes the fluid dabs onto my skin in the corner of the eye giving me a big black mark (this can obviously be removed quickly and easily with a wet cotton pad or finger though). I do not do this on every application, only when I am in a rush or not thinking! But this downside can be further prevented by wiping the end off of the mascara wand in the tube to prevent this excess fluid staying on the wand during the application.
This mascara is quite wet at first and I do feel it needs to dry before you start fully blinking and moving your eyes after application as otherwise some of the liquid might transfer to the top or bottom of your eye. But this is not a problem as literally within 20 seconds I feel it is dry so it is not a long time to wait still.
Something that I love about this mascara is that if you apply it in the morning but you would like to top it up before leaving the house again in the evening you can reapply it without any problems and without having to remove your first layer. It does not clump at all.
This mascara certainly gives me excellent volume and length to my lashes and at a great price! I have well curled lashes already (luckily) but I would imagine this mascara probably is not the perfect mascara for somebody who needs adding curl! I would suggest a different No7 mascara which emphasises this more.
Another important factor is that it does not smudge or drop around the eye. I had an expensive Clarins mascara which constantly dropped little bits under my eye which was a complete nightmare making my eyes constantly look dark! This No7 mascara does not budge. I have also been out in the terrible wind and rain that we have had recently and it has not budged throughout that either which I was very surprised about because this is not the waterproof version of the mascara that I have. They do a waterproof version for the same price but I do not find that I need that. It is also very easily removed with eye makeup remover. My eye makeup remover is for sensitive eyes as well so it is very gentle but it removes this mascara with no problem whatsoever. I do not need to rub at my eyes at all.
The back of the mascara tube states '6M' with a little open lid icon. This means that they suggest that once opened the mascara will last for approximately 6 months.
I am so thrilled with this mascara that I will be buying it in the navy shade when I next pop into Boots.
Who would I recommend this for?
Somebody who wants a mascara with a traditional brush to lengthen and colour their lashes whilst separating each lash and whilst adding volume. If you are not interested in all of the new weird and I expect wonderful mascara wands out their then go for this traditional one which works wonderfully for a very reasonable price! I think it is excellent value for money! I have tried many mascaras in my time from the premium brands of Estee Lauder, Clinique, Clarins, Lancome and Dior to the more high street brands of L'Oreal and Rimmel, this is my favourite so far!!
I am one of those dark haired girls blessed with naturally long, thick black lashes. I'm at the envy of a lot of people because of it, but nobody seems to realise the trials and tribulations of finding a suiting mascara when you only need a bit of a boost.
Because mascara tends to be marketed towards those who want their lashes to long and super defined due to pale and/or thin lashes, the formulas and brushes do not seem suited to people like me, as you end up looking like a Halloween makeup disaster. What if you only need a of definition and not "illegal" or "HD" length?
This is where No7 comes in to save the day. I've never found a mascara that will evenly coat, be a dark black without leaving your eyes appearing soul-less, be defining not spidery and most importantly - as clearly advertised by its name - be volumising.
My lashes are curled, dark and fluttery. The formula's not sticky or uncomfortable, it doesn't smell bad or perfumed and best of all it lasts all day.
I can't fault this product, I love it so much and use it every day. If you're tired of wasting £10-£15 on products that don't deliver, give this <£10 mini miracle a go.
The majority of the make up and skin care I own is No 7 from Boots. I find it in general to be of good quality and long lasting.
Over the years I have tried most of the No 7 mascaras and the Intense Volume I am currently using is now coming towards its end. I always have brown/black mascara as I am quite fair skinned and the black looks a bit too harsh on me. It comes in three basic colours, black, brown/black and navy. I would think that the black and black/brown are the most popular however I used to wear navy mascara in the 1970's along with electric blue eye shadow which was all the rage then!
The tube is 7ml and shiny black with the No 7 logo and Intense Volume on the front. It has a screw top which is easy to unscrew. The top of mine is a little bit mucky and clogged with mascara but as I have probably had it for about four months now this is to be accepted.
The brush at the end of the wand is 2½ centimetres long and has soft thick bristles which taper down towards the end which I find very useful for the inside corner of your lashes. I have found that there has always been enough mascara on the brush by just taking it out and I haven't needed to 'pump it' before use.
I have only ever needed to put one coat on until quite recently but as I say it is really on its last legs now and after using it every day for four months I feel I have certainly had my money's worth out of it. It has never clumped on my eyelashes but does a good job of separating the lashes which I think makes them appear more natural. However I wouldn't say it provides 'intense' volume although my lashes do appear thicker and healthier so the name of the mascara is a bit of misnomer to me.
This mascara is hypo-allergenic and fragrance free but is not completely waterproof however I have never found it to run. The only time I have experienced panda eyes is when I'm tired and rub my eyes at night forgetting that I haven't removed my make up.
I paid £9.50 for this mascara which is still the current price, however Boots have usually got some sort of promotion on such as 3 for 2 or they regularly give a £5 voucher for No 7 products when you spend £10 in store. It is currently in an offer to buy one item of No 7 make up and get another one half price.
No 7's instructions to use the mascara are to massage the brush at the root of your lashes and then zig zag up to the tips to achieve maximum length and definition but I think everyone just finds their own particular way of using it.
My Verdict: I will continue to use No 7 mascara and would buy this particular one again but I'm sure there are others which give you more volume if this is what you are after.
I was quite let down with this mascara, especially for number 7. When I bought it I expected it to do what it said, due to the fact I love no 7 and almost everything I own I get from them. And I was very disappointed, it doesn't really volumise at all. However I do have to say it was exceptionally nice to put on. It's a nice feeling and very feminine tube and it smells nice. The mascara does go on lovely but I do have to say, it lengthens more than it does to voulumise even though you do get really nice coverage on all of your lashes. I don't know if this happens on all the ranges mascaras but if your looking for volume this isn't the one, if your looking for a nice decent mascara, can't fault it! Plus they do not do testing on animals, which is a bonus
I received this mascara as part of a No.7 gift set at the beginning of this year.
~ Price and availability ~
Mine is a slightly smaller tube than they usually make since it was part of a gift set.
This mascara usually retails at £9.00 in Boots stores or online at www.boots.com, but Boots often give out £5.00 No.7 vouchers so you could get it for just £4.00.
Boots are currently offering a free gift worth £26.00 when you buy 2 or more No.7 cosmetics and there are sometimes 3 for 2 offers on their products as well.
This mascara is available in three colours - black, brown/black and navy.
~ Appearance ~
The tube is made from shiny black plastic, but otherwise is fairly plain, with the No7 logo towards the top of the lid and 'Intense Volume' on the side of the tube in gold lettering.
The back of the tube has some small print on, 'Fantastic volume with perfect separation and curl for lusher lashes.'. There is also a UK address for Boots and the Boots web address, www.boots.com.
~ Use ~
The lid twists off easily and like most mascaras, the wand is attached to the lid. This mascara has a full size wand, even though mine is a smaller version of the product.
The brush has lots of rows of bristles and it tapers towards the end and the bristles become a lot shorter. This is handy for reaching the shorter lashes in the corners of your eyes, which can prove the most difficult to get to.
The mascara is easy to apply. It does not stick your lashes together and there are no clumps! It separates my lashes and creates a bold effect.
I wouldn't say that this mascara adds length to my lashes, but it perhaps makes the lashes look thicker and helps to define them.
The end of the brush coats the shorter lashes in the corners of your eyes with ease.
You can apply repeatedly for a more intense and dramatic look, but I am usually happy with the look after one coat.
The mascara is long lasting on your lashes and it easily outlives an 8 hour day.
It does not smudge under my eyes unless I rub it and it does not irritate my eyes at all.
It is a decent every day mascara and I would consider buying it again. I think it is reasonably priced and does its job well, but it is nothing too special for a mascara.
I recently bought this as a replacement for my old mascara when I went on a mission to replace all my old cheap make-up with some better quality products. I decided to get a range of No7 cosmetics and since my eyelashes arent very long I decided to go for the 'Intense Volume' mascara in black.
The mascara retails for around £11 (if I remember correctly) and comes in a simple black tube with a twist of cap with the brush attached. The brush is quite a chunky and fat one that thins off towards the end.
This is a really really good mascara in the way that it NEVER clumps up or sticks your eyelashes together. It is described as giving 'perfect separation' which it certainly does, no matter how much I apply my lashes stay separated and look very natural and smooth.
HOWEVER... it also claims (as the name suggests) to 'visibly build up volume' and this is where the mascara falls short. It doesnt create any volume at all, not in the slightest. Although my lashes look lovely and natural and a very dark black, they are only more defined and not curly and full of volume as I had hoped. So if you are looking for a mascara that creates a big impact then this is definitely not it.
Despite this I still do love this mascara, my lashes look lovely and natural, they never clump or stick together, it never looks as though I have applied too much mascara to my eyes which is great. It doesnt irritate my eyes and it is easily removed with some eye make up remover. It also stays put all day and doesnt need re-applying, it also doesnt really smudge unless you really rub at your eyes and it doesnt flake away either. If it wasnt called 'intense volume' then I wouldnt really be able to fault it, but as far as mascaras go its definitely one of my favourites and I will be buying it again.
Last Christmas I got a gift set from the Boots No.7 range which contained a miniature of the Intense Volume Mascara. I have tried lots of different mascaras and was happy to give this one a go too. I would consider mascara to be my most important makeup essential after face powder, as I have very pale eyelashes and dyed dark brown hair and without mascara I look very odd!
The mascara comes in a simple slightly tapered black tube with the name of the product and the No.7 name printed on the side in gold lettering. It is a sophisticated and attractive tube that I am happy to have in my makeup bag. The mascara has a standard tapered mascara wand and it is very easy to apply. I have never experienced any clumps while using it. Several claims are made about the mascara which I will discuss below:
Hypo-allergenic: I have experienced no reaction or irritation using this mascara, and I wear contact lenses so this is a definite plus.
Fragrance free: I can't detect any fragrance coming from the mascara, which probably helps make it suitable for sensitive eyes.
Fantastic volume: This is where the mascara falls down. While the mascara creates a nice natural effect on the lashes, it is subtle and more suitable for daytime. Volume implies, to me, a more dramatic effect than is actually given.
Perfect separation and curl: This is true - I have never experienced any clumps while using this mascara, even when applying two coats. It goes on very easily and gives my eyelashes definition and separation. I can also detect a slight curl although this is harder to detect as I use eyelash curlers as a matter of course.
The mascara never flakes or rubs off and generally doesn't smudge. It does smudge slightly if I've been crying or if I've been to the gym, but in fairness it is not supposed to be waterproof. I find that I have to apply two coats for the best effect. One coat would be ideal to make your lashes look very natural. Two coats still creates a subtle, natural look and is necessary for me as my lashes are so pale naturally.
Additional information: The mascara costs £11.50 for the full size tube and is available from Boots online or in store. It comes in black, navy, brown or brown/black. Boots recommend it if you previously bought the No.7 Ultimate Volumnising Mascara - presumably this was intended to replace it.
Overall, I think this is a nice mascara that goes on easily and creates a really nice natural look. I particularly like wearing the mascara to work as it provides subtle definition without being over the top. However the mascara is marketed as a volumnising mascara and it just isn't. Anyone buying it hoping to create volume would be disappointed, I think.
I've given the mascara four stars because it's a nice product, but have removed a star for the misleading name.
I am oriental and so have problems finding a really good mascara that gives me a volumised look as my eyelashes naturally face down.
I tried this mascara as I had a £5 voucher for Boots and they also had a deal where when you buy a mascara you get a free eye shadow box worth £13 for free.
This mascara has a nice thick top with the brush attached so its easy to apply. The brush itself is quite small and so fits nicely under my eyelashes. The bristles are quite seperated but Im not a fan of this as the mascara tends to get very thick on the brush and requires a lot of wiping on the top of the bottle before you can apply.
I find to get a really big eyelash look I need to apply 3 coats, and its running out fast! I replace my mascara every 3 months but this looks like it will run out before then. It cost me around £13 but then I had the voucher. I wouldnt normally buy no 7 as its quite overpriced for the quality of product.
This comes in several colours, I have the Black one but you can also get brown black, brown and blue. The bottle itself looks stylish and its quite light and fits nicely in my makeup bag.
It doesnt really work well for nighttime more obvious looks, but for day to day use its perfectly fine.
As a whole, I really love the No. 7 brand. Their product range is so broad and diversified that you can always find something different and new. In the past, I've used their eyeshadows, bronzers and day creams. Now I religiously use their eyeliner, mascara and blush. With all the great 3 for 2 deals and Euro7.50 off vouchers, you will always find a great deal with them. That is how I came across No 7 Intense Mascara.....
I have spent hundreds of euro in the past on useless mascaras, ones that would clump, dry out quickly or just make no difference to your lashes!! Obviously I'm fussy when it comes to mascara...isn't everyone?? We all strive for model perfect lustrous lashes, hunt in vain for mascara that goes on smoothly, lasts alllll day and gives your lashes that oomph that every model seems to perfect!!!
**No 7 Intense Mascara**
I bought this particular one on a whim one day. Boots are forever having offers on No 7 products, so when I found myself in possession of a Euro7.50 off voucher I couldn't resist. At around Euro13 then, I didn't pay much for the mascara so found myself a bargain in all!!
The mascara came in black, brown black and brown shades, as well as in waterproof black also. I chose the black as I find these give the best results usually for me. I was promised a wide eyed, intense volume look with this so could not eait to try it out.
I found the mascara to go on quite smoothly. It had a great texture to it and did not clump or leave my eyes a mess as some do! However, I didn't feel it gave quite an intense look as was promised. It was quite bland and my eyes didn't look too different. Not quite so spectacular. But maybe that's because I expected too much? It did stay on all day though so I did get great wear from it. Another downfall was the removal. It was quite difficult to remove, in comparison to other mascaras. I wouldn't have minded this too much if I had gotten the great intensity and spectacular lashes from it but because it was a bit boring and bland I felt it should have been easier to remove.
Overall I think I expected to much from the mascara. But with a name like Intense Volume, you would expect just that? I wouldn't buy it again based purely on the fact that it was just 'fine' and I always like a little bit more than 'fine'. For the price paid though, it was good value so can't fault it there.
My mum is an extremely careless shopper which is most of the time due to the fact she isn't wearing her glasses so she can't read the packaging of items. A recent "mistaken" purchase was when buying mascara. Instead of buying her usual No 7 Mascara for sensitive eyes she purchased the No7 Intense Volume Mascara and did not hold onto her receipt. There is one person who benefits from these mistakes; me! Despite me having a make-up bag packed with cosmetics (including various brands of mascara) I added the No 7 Intense Volume mascara to my current collection.
***No 7 Intense Volume Mascara***
No 7 Intense Volume Mascara is described as "Fantastic volume with perfect separation and curl for lusher lashes."
The mascara is fragrance free and hyper allergenic. The mascara has replaced the No7 Ultimate Volumising Mascara.
The mascara is available in 4 different colours which are Black, Black/Brown, Brown and Navy. I have this mascara in black/ brown therefore my review will be based upon this colour of the product.
The mascara is available from No 7 counters within Boots stores and is also available online from the Boots website. A 7ml tube costs £11.50 therefore this is amid-priced mascara.
***Application and Results***
The packaging of the No7 Intense Volume mascara is very simple and plain and does not really stand out on the shelves compared with other mascaras. The mascara tube is black and has a slightly curved thin hourglass tube. Written on the front of the tube is No7 Intense Volume. You do need to take care that you check what colour mascara you are purchasing as on the base of the tube is a very small sticker which indicates the colour.
What I like about this mascara is that it is very easy to apply because of the simple design of the tube and mascara wand. There is a small curve to the mascara wand on the handle so it sits well in your hand. Secondly the mascara wand is a traditional shaped wand so does not require a specific technique to apply it with or take practice getting used to. The wand is just over 1 inch in length and has lots of bristles which are evenly spaced so you get a very even application when applying the mascara.
I tend to use a black coloured mascara for everyday wear so because I had been given this product in black/ brown I found myself using it for occasions when I wanted a more "natural look" and on occasions when I wanted to opt for a more bare faced look and to look like I wasn't really wearing make-up.
When I first opened the mascara I did feel that the consistency of it is quite thin in comparison to others I had used. Once on the wand the mascara coats lashes very well because of its thinner consistency and I found each lash was coated but separated and even when applied in a rush I did not get any clumps. I did find that although effective one coat did not really give enough definition and thickness so I always opted for a second coat to ensure the length added by the first coat is balanced out by thickness given by the second coat of mascara.
Although I did think the mascara was a thin consistency initially I do feel that it started to dry up and go slightly thicker with time. After 6 weeks' worth of use I didn't really feel the product was useable as it has started to dry out and the mascara had quite a thick gloopy consistency which did not apply well to lashes and made them stick together and not look separated like it did initially.
Although the claims of this mascara are that it creates "intense volume" I do not feel that this is a product for someone who likes very dramatic, very long looking lashes that are created by "false lash effect" products. I tend to go for these types of products (albeit in black rather than black/ brown) and feel that these mascaras are more effective for creating a full on effect and giving lashes more impact. The No 7 Intense Volume mascara adds length and thickness in a subtle natural looking way but personally I would have been disappointed if I was expecting a more noticeable result as my lashes did not look as long as they do with other products I have used.
My lashes did look separated, longer and thicker when this mascara had been applied and had a lovely curl to them. Because the black/brown colour was less dramatic and noticeable than if I had purchased the mascara in black I actually found my lashes looked very natural and I actually did not look like I was wearing mascara. I do not feel if purchased in black my lashes would have looked the same but I do feel they still would have looked quite subtle just have framed my face slightly more.
This is not a waterproof mascara, however I have worn this mascara for going swimming and also in a sauna and it has not ran. If you do get your lashes wet, providing you do not rub your eyes and touch your lashes the mascara stays on lashes and does not run. Removing the mascara from eyes is very easy. I find that I do not need to use a separate eye make-up remover and with a few wipes per eye with a make-up wipe all traces of this mascara can be removed .
Although this is probably not a mascara I will buy again I think it is a very good mascara and would definitely recommend it especially to those that to wear mascara but so that is subtle and their lashes look naturally long and thick. Unlike many of the mascara's I have used that claim to be "intense" this mascara does add volume and length but is not an obvious mascara as the results are clump free lashes and in the brown/black colour it is possible for the mascara to look like you are not actually wearing mascara.
Although I tried this mascara in the black/ brown colour which is different to the usual colours I go for as I always opt for a more dramatic black I do still think even in the black it would not give the same definition and dramatic effect to lashes that the usual "false lash" type mascaras I opt for. Even with a number of coats on the lashes I do not feel the No7 Intense Volume Mascara has the same intensity when adding length and thickness that these types of mascaras add, therefore is probably not a mascara for those that like dramatic or false lash effects as it is just too natural.
I wear contact lenses and have no issues with the mascara irritating my eyes however my mum has particularly sensitive eyes and she is unable to wear the No7 Intense Volume Mascara as it causes her eyes to sting and water therefore for others with very sensitive eyes this could be an issue.
At £11.50 for a 7ml this is not a cheap mascara however it is not within the "premium mascara" price range. I think for the price this is a very good quality mascara however I do think it dries up quicker than many other mascaras I have used and within 8 weeks of semi-regular wear the mascara did need replacing.
Good just not great!
No7 is a brand exclusive to Boots that often has £5 off vouchers that are given with other Boots Purchases.
This mascara usually retails for £11.50, which is only £2 cheaper than the likes of MAC, therefore is expensive for a lower end product.
Boots say 'This No7 Intense Volume Mascara provides fantastic volume with perfect separation and curl for lusher lashes.'
Now don't get me wrong, this is a good mascara. It will lengthen, separate and curl your lashes and coat your lashes enough to notice against light eyelashes but is very natural looking. Maybe too natural sometimes, if only one coat is applied, people may mistake you for not wearing mascara, this may be though to your advantage.
Unfortunately though this does not last on your lashes and will rub off during the day, whether it will be because you have physically rubbed your eyes or your eyes have watered slightly. Yes this is expected but other non waterproof mascaras do not do this and after 2 hours you might as well have not put any mascara on.
The good thing about this mascara is that it is easily layered without clumping and is easily removed but will take longer than average to dry after you have applied it.
My overall opinion on this is that the waterproof version of this may work better if you are wanting a subtle effect on your lashes but this is not worth the £11.50
When it comes to mascara I am very fussy! I have sensitive eyes therefore I always ensure I use a reasonably priced mascara as cheaper brands tend to irritate my eyes leaving them sore and itchy.
The Boots no 7 mascara is excellent quality. It goes on smoothly, does not clump and stays on all day long without smudging. It does not flake either. I have quite short eyelashes but this mascara makes them look long and thick with only one coat which is great especially when you are in a hurry (like I am, most mornings). I have only tried it in black but I believe it comes in other colours. I also took advantage of the Boots buy 2 get 1 free offer so I have enought to last for a few months. It will last a good while without drying out. The brush is good to hold, does not slip and not too thick so you have good control over it.
I first came across Boots No7 Intense Volume Mascara as a trial size in a 'gift with purchase', and although I've always tended to stick with the mascaras I know well (I've used Lancome's Definicils and Hypnose for the last few years), I was happy to try out another product.
I've been wearing black mascara for nearly forty years now and I think this is one of the the best on the market. It's also available in Navy, Brown and Brown/Black.
The packaging is black and elegant, and when you open the tube there is no excess of mascara waiting to clog up the top.
I found that this product gives a really good coverage. It lengthened my quite short lashes, and curled them at the same time. And it doesn't clump. I recently read a piece in one of the glossy magazines that gave a good technique for applying mascara. Start by brushing the lashes in the centre, then brush towards the inner corner of your eye, and finish by brushing the final section towards the outer corner.
I also found the following tip: after applying the first coat and letting it dry, I use my index finger (a very effective and inexpensive home-made eyelash curler!) to push back on my lashes gently, at the roots. This helps curl the lashes in preparation for the next coat. I always like to wear two or three coats - I like a lot of coverage! - and at the end of the application I find that my lashes are really well covered, curl beautifully, and stay like that for the rest of the day.
However, they don't last for long if I'm watching a weepie movie! There is a waterproof version, available at the same price, but I haven't had the chance to try it yet. This is available in Black and Brown/Black.
The Intense Volume Mascara is a high-quality product, and certainly compares very favourably with the premium make-up ranges.
This mascara is available from Boots at £11.50 for a 7ml tube, and is currently (25th April) part of an offer of 3 for 2 mix & match across 1000s of products. I love these offers, as well as the regular £5 No7 vouchers, because they give me the chance to buy high quality but fairly expensive products for a price that would suit most purses.
For the price, I cannot rate this product highly enough, and am happy to give it five stars.
(This review is also on Ciao, under the same user name.)
For my birthday one of my friends gave me a No7 make up set. In it was this mascara. I was very pleasantly surprised when I found this mascara in the set, as its something I had seen in Boots loads of times and thought about buying it, but for some reason I just hadn't ever treated myself to it. So it was really nice to get it given to me as a present. I couldn't wait to try it out.
The packaging for the mascara is quite simple. It is black all over with gold writing on it. The shape, thin at the ends then wider in the middle of the bottle, and then thin again between the lid and the bottle, makes this easier to hold, so it fits nicely into your hand and you have more control when applying it. I think the bottle design is quite plain and boring to be honest, but really that doesn't matter to me as long as the mascara enhances my lashes . . .
The brush is quite big actually. The bristles sort of spiral round it like and are quite long. They are separated quite far apart as well so I always find this harder to apply than most of my mascaras, as I seem to always accidentally get it on my eyelids as well as my lashes. However the brush is good in some ways, such as it stops the mascara going clumped up and keeps my lashes looking natural even when I have quite a lot of this on.
I find that I always have to apply about three or four layers of this before it has much of an effect. I have to say though, the effect is good. My lashes look more longer than they do volumous, but I don't see how long lashes can be considered a disadvantage. Perhaps the only disadvantage then is that the name is a bit misleading.
Overall this is a great mascara, though. I know I have made it sound not very good, but its really good. If you want long lashes that still look natural, at a reasonable price, and don't care what the mascara bottle looks like, then this is definitely the mascara for you. If you want intense volume then look elsewhere.
I had been complaining for quite a while that I don't have a good mascara and I don't know where to find a good one without spending all my money on different mascaras. I'm lucky enough to have quite long natural lashes. I'm looking for something to give them a bit of a volume and make them look natural. A friend of mine got me No7 Intense Volume for my birthday quite a while ago and I'm still using it.
Packaging and smell
The mascara comes in a black, plastic tube that is slightly curved and it clearly says its name and brand on the front and further information at the back. Inside you will find a straight wand that is very easy to use (I'm saying that because I'm a beginner if it comes to make-up so it really helped).
I don't like strong smelling mascaras and this one is definitely not one of them. The scent is mild and bearable which is another advantage for me.
It is easy to apply using the wand (I usually apply it in the 'Z' shape - going left to right as I read somewhere that this way mascaras don't leave clumps); the brush is quite ordinary (i.e. simply straight rather than curvy). I was pleased to see that this one doesn't leave any clumps even if I don't use my trick. It separately the lashes, making them look longer and thicker yet still natural. The producer promises 'Fantastic volume with perfect separation and curler for lusher lashes' and I must admit that the keep their promises. I know that some people apply two (or even more) layers, I usually stick to one for natural look.
I was really glad to see that this mascara goes quite a long way. I've had it for quite a few months now and it still hasn't dried out. I have never experienced any problems with removing this mascara (I usually use a make up remover) and it usually lasts for almost the entire day.
Price and availability
This mascara costs £11.50 and is available in Boots. It is available in four shades: black, brown/black, brown and navy. I personally have the brown/black one which for me is perfect (I'm blonde so my eye lashes aren't perfectly black) as it makes my lashes look very natural.
It is a very good mascara if you are looking for a natural look. It isn't the cheapest option but you can always use a voucher and it will go a long way.
Thank you for reading my review.
