“ Brand: Boots / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye / What it does: Lifts, „
As you may notice if you have read my other cosmetics reviews, I do tend to be a fan of Boots No 7 cosmetics. This is one of the mascaras that I use quite often from this range.
Having just looked on the Boots website, I can't see this product available, although it must only be a matter of months since I bought it in our local Boots store. Other similar products are priced around £12. I do think it would be a shame if they have stopped selling this - as you will see below, I think it is a good product.
The packaging of the lift and curve mascara is just as in the image above, and similar to other No 7 packaging - simple but stylish. I find the wand is comfortable to hold in the hand, being big enough to manipulate easily.
The brush itself tapers slightly and has regularly shaped, round bristles. I find that this sort of brush suits my eyelashes quite well. The bristles are quite close together, and this does seem to help with the lifting effect of this mascara - if you get the brush right to the roots when you apply, it does give a bit of a lift and help to open out the eye.
As for the curve, I also use an eyelash curler, so I can't vouch for how the mascara would perform on its own, but the general lifting effect I think helps to create a bit of curve.
What I do like about this mascara is that it separates the lashes which gives a nice volumised look, and it's not at all clumpy. Very rarely does it smudge on application, and it lasts well through the day. It is not quite as good as some other mascaras as lengthening lashes, but mine are quite long anyway so this is not too much of an issue for me. It's also not quite as thick as others - this is good as it doesn't clump or smudge, but it takes a bit more effort to get more dramatic lashes.
All in all, I think this is probably my second favourite of the Boots No 7 mascaras, and a great one for everyday wear, giving volumised, lifted, separated lashes. A real shame if they don't sell it anymore.
I got loads of makeup sets bought me for Christmas and a few on them were No7 which is cool as it is a really good quality brand name and I've been using makeup for a few years now...
Mascara is one of my favourite eye products as it really emphasises that area of your face and can make your eyes look bigger and more colourful. I always wear Black mascara and everybody who knows me well knows that so of course this 'No7 Lift and Curve' was that shade.
My mascara wand is a small version of the longer products I have seen in Boots as this is their own brand of cosmetics...
This no7 Lift and Curve is made on a silver tube with the write up: 'Lifts your lashes while you curl for wonderfully wide open eyes' which I need at college, lol!
There is 4.5 ml in my mascara and it is hypoallergenic which is good, plus Boots don't test their products on animals which is cool.
On opening the product you can use it for six months which is about right as it would start running and drying out anyway.
Made in England this eye makeup has the narrowest mascara brush I have ever seen, it is about an inch long but only a few millimetres wide all the way along.
You would think this would make it really easy to use but is really isn't as it doesn't seem to be long enough inside the spiral design to coat the length of my lashes completely.
The mascara itself is rather thick but it still takes two coats to do my eyelashes properly, but I would not buy this myself as I think the design of the brush is all wrong. It comes off easily enough with makeup facial wipes so it's not waterproof but not pleasant to use.
The Lift and Curve didn't curl my lashes the way it said it would either, although it did last for hours without me having to re-apply it.
I made a mess of my face with this though; and the last time I looked it cost £10.50 full price so I think that is really expensive for this stuff.
Only one star from my, I wouldn't recommend this, it's messy, difficult to use and definitely not worth the money! :(
This is my favourite mascara to date. Although I'm blessed with long lashes they are very straight which causes me no end of problems. I was forever curling them until I discovered the eyelash perm! However, I'm still in need of a good, curling mascara and this lifts my eyelashes beautifully. It's not too heavy but still makes a difference and really opens up the eyes.
I was using a Maybelline mascara for years which I loved, but has now been discontinued and No 7 Lift and Curve even beats this. It does seem to run out quite quickly compared to other brands, not sure if this is because there is less in there than the packaging would have you believe or because it dries out, but this is my only criticism.
It does not give a dramatic look, so if it's volume and extra-long lashes you're after this may not be the mascara for you, but it's perfect for that gentle curve and lift. A pretty, natural day-time look. It's best not to put two coats on though, as lashes can start to look clogged.
The mascara is in a silver tube - pretty when bought but it scratches easily and the shine rubs off, leaving you with a light grey tube with dark lines on it.
It is however quite light and slim - unlike some brands the shape of the tube is as minimal as possible, so it is easy to fit in a makeup bag.
The mascara itself was fine at first. I didn't find it added to the length of my lashes as much as I expected and the volume change was noticeable but not particularly dramatic. This is much more of an everyday basic mascara than anything else.
It isn't a heavy mascara when on and I really like the fact that it didn't made my lashes really hard.
The biggest problem with this mascara started about 2 weeks after I first used it. Whenever applied as well as having the liquid mascara on it the brush would come out with a fine black powder. It appears to be that the mascara dries round the top of the bottle. I had always made sure I closed it tightly so this was a little annoying. At a guess I would say maybe the seal isn't quite tight enough. Not a good thing.
I love this mascara. I ran out of my usual one a few months ago and found a sample of this in my make up bag. I started to use it as an emergency substitute until I could get a replacement of my normal one, but I never went back!
I have quite short eyelashes and this mascara lengthened them considerably. It also made them a lot darker than they are naturally (from a natural mid brown to quite an intense black after the application.) My normal day make up is foundation, powder, black eyeliner and mascara. As I tend to make up my eyes quite dark and keep everything else quite natural, I needed a mascara that would really darken my eyelashes and this one did that. I also seems to last for ages. My sample lasted about 6 months and then I bought a full sized one that is still going 10 months later. It doesn't seem to dry out either - the first mascara that I have got to the bottom of the tube with before it turns to a dried out mess!
The other major plus point is that I have the most sensitive eyes in the world and also wear contact lenses. This mascara has never once irritated my eyes, and also seems to be pretty waterproof - both of which are huge bonuses.
It was as I was going through my huge make up box that I found this mascara which I had bought. I couldnt remebered why this mascara which was mostly full would have been chucked in the box where hardly anything gets used yet I cant bear to throw away because of the money I have spent on it!
The tube is a nice silver colour and which is why I imagine I first picked it up in the shop as it looks quite trendy. The writing on it is kept simple and minimal which I think is good, it simply has No.7 written at the very top of the lid and then the name written fairly small and in understated lettering. The lid flares out as it reaches the top and again I think this adds to the trendy and futuristic look of the mascara.
The lid like other mascaras is a screw lid with the wand attached, and as I first pulled this out I began to realise why it was thrown in the box as the wand and brush were very thin and felt very unstable. Also the mascara seemed to have clogged the brush because of the fact it was just so thin.
However after wiping the excess onto the side of the tube I began applying it, yet even more problems existed here it didnt seem to apply evenly to my lashes as at the very start there was hardly any mascara yet the tips of my lashes seemed to be clogged and had huge clumps hanging onto the ends. Within minutes the mascara had been wiped off which is its one redeeming feature that it comes off very easily with a few quick wipes! However it has now been banished back to the box and I can remeber why it was there in the first place...Its just no good!
Another one of my famous great No7 mascaras which i use regulary for nights out mainly as i find its a bit too dramatic for me for the daytime look. But i personally prefer the natural look.
I purchased this mascara when it was on special offer about 18 months ago , and its still going fantastically well in my make up bag and nowhere near dried up., like many more would have by now.
I have the black issue and it does definately give the fuller eyelash look .
With the unique fancy bottle the lid easily comes off with the wand which is extremely easy to use with the bristles short and close together on the wand , which gives a perfect curving effect as advertised.
The only downside to this product is that it can get a bit clumpy , which i then struggle to remove due to the bristle widths.
Other than that i would recommend this for use on nights out for that flattering eyelash look , which it gives me time after time .
Having had a huge clear out of my cosmetics box, way back in January, I was in terribly short supply of mascaras that weren't dried up. In fact, I had none so as my birthday was fast approaching I put out a request for some new cosmetics with an emphasis on mascaras and this is one of them.
~ Price ~
Boots are currently selling this mascara for £10.30 for a standard 7ml mascara.
No7 also has an offer on for a free cosmetics back when you spend £18+ on selected No7 items.
~ Colours ~
Unlike many other mascaras this is currently only available in black which is fine by me as I never deviate from the bog standard black.
~ Packaging / What it looks like ~
The mascara holder is silver with a sturdy, easy to grip handle section which all aids in the application of it.
The bristles are quite short in comparison to other mascaras I have used.
~ What does No7 promise / say about this product? ~
~ Fragrance free
~ Lifts your lashes while you curl
~ Gives wonderfully wide open eyes!
~ Does the mascara live up to its promise? ~
It all depends on who you are comparing your lashes and eyes to as to whether it gives you that 'wonderfully wide open eye' look!
Once applied it certainly enhances my eyelashes (I'm currently sitting with one set of eyelashes with the mascara on and the other 'natural'). It lifts them slightly and gives them a slight curl to them but it is definitely not a 'Wow, look at those lashes' look!
It gives a natural look which I think is far better for a day time look but not great for my evenings out!
No heavy clagging or false looking lashes. It doesn't flake off during the course of wearing it which some I have used in the past have done as the day or night wears on.
It doesn't claim to be waterproof and since I haven't jumped in a pool with it on or cried then I can't state how much it smudges. However the bonus of it being a 'light' mascara and non-waterproof is that it is very easily removed with eye make-up remover whereas other heavier mascaras have been a bit of a pain to remove.
~ How long does it last? ~
I've had this for a couple of months and in that time there is no sign of
it running out! Granted I don't use this on a daily basis, perhaps only once a week.
~ Would I buy this again? ~
In all honesty I don't think I would. Despite the natural look it doesn't really enhance my lashes enough to justify the cost of it.
