“ Brand: Boots / Type: Lipstick / Suitable for: Lip „
Boots sheer temptation
The product is advertised as the glossiest-ever sheer lipstick, with a soft and creamy. formulation.
**How does it do this?...**
It is apparently enriched with natural waxes and Theobroma oil (which is in chocolate!) to care for your lips, and Maxilip to help hydrate the lips. I don't know what any of these ingredients are but they must be good if they are mentioned on the product blurb.
**Product and Packaging**
The product comes packaged in a long black case with a pull off/push back on lid. When I pull of the lid, the lipstick is revealed as a kind of stick which is slightly slanted for ease of application. The lip gloss is raised from the tube by twisting the base of the tube and to get it back into the tube to protect it, the tube has to be twisted in the opposite direction
The lipstick itself is easy to apply and with just one application, I have enough colour on my lips and also a slight glossy sheen. It is not sticky or greasy and although it looks good it is, unfortunately, not very long lasting and can easily be licked off and definitely comes off with eating or drinking.
**How to Use**
For a simple stain effect; apply a simple coat of colour and for maximum impact and a brighter colour, keep reapplying. For me one application is sufficient for both day and night use.
There are 12 colours in this lipstick, including browns pinks and reds with both subtle and dramatic colours, so there should be something for everyone. There are certainly some colours which are quite dramatic and some which are more subtle for daytime wear or for people who don't want their lips to be the main attraction! I have the shade Bewitching which is a kind of dark dusky pink. It goes onto lips true to colour and with one application, I am left with a glossy just darker than lips colour.
--Price and Availability--
The lipstick costs £10 and is available online from www.boots.com and instore.
I like this lip gloss. To me it is a cross between a lip stick and a lip gloss as it is quite dry like a lip stick but with the sheen of a gloss. The colour I have is quite natural looking and for me suitable for day or night wear, although for constant colour it should be reapplied frequently.
It does last a long time and fortunately, the lid stays firmly in place when I keep it in my bag.
Decent enough lip colour and worth it especially if bought when on offer.
Thanks for reading
Boots No. 7 generally make nice, reliable products, so when I fancied a new lipstick I found Sheer Temptation quite... well, tempting. These aren't the cheapest lipsticks on the market at a tenner a go (although Boots very often have three for two and voucher offers on their No. 7 products that make them cheaper), but this sounded like a lipstick with a lot to offer; SPF 15 (always good), moisturising, glossy colour. The range of colour to choose from was pretty good too, with twelve attractive shades, so I decided to try shade number 40- Lovely (who doesn't want to be lovely, after all?).
Like most No. 7 products, this lipstick comes in sturdy, functional (if not terribly exciting) packaging. It's a bullet lipstick, so just needs twisting at the base to bring up the lip colour. The lipstick itself is rather bulky, which makes it a little bit awkward to apply neatly- not difficult, just needs a bit of care and attention.
When I first applied this lipstick, I really liked it. It felt comfortable and moisturising on my lips- rather like lip balm. The colour was exactly what I had expected, a sheer version of the colour of the label on the packaging; it gave my lips a nice gloss (not as glossy as a lip gloss but glossier than a balm) and complimented my pale skin tone.
The performance of this lipstick, though, was quite disappointing, as it really doesn't have much staying power. Eat or drink anything and it's gone. Even if you don't eat or drink anything, after about half an hour the colour starts to fade, as does the glossy finish, and the moisturising feeling wears off. This was a real shame, as when I first put this on I had high hopes for this lipstick! It's easy to re-apply and it looks and feels great when it's fresh but for ten pounds I expected something better.
Most of you probably shop at Boots already and are aware that almost always, you can purchase No7 products at £5 off. I have never been into store without getting one of these vouchers.
No7 is boots own brand of make up that is actually quite good considering that it isn't very expensive. In the range you can purchase three different types of lipstick. Moisture drench, stay perfect and sheer temptation (the one I am reviewing for you now).
The product claims to give a sheer glossy finish and I have to admit that it does. The only issue is that there are only 6 shades in the collection so you do not have much to choose from at all. I purchased 'Attract' which is a gorgeous nude colour because I personally don't suit dramatic bold colours.
As you can see from the picture, the lipstick comes in a silver tube which is similar to old style lipstick but with a new twist making it look even more attractive. There is a No7 logo on the lid and the product colour and name on the underneath of the tube.
The lipstick is quite thin in the tube and not chunky, but it is long so you do still get quite a lot of use out of it.
I personally apply vaseline to my lips before using a lipstick as it helps to hold the colour for longer. The product applies easily too meaning no mess or ugly lips. The colour is exactly as it looks on the base of the product which is excellent and not misleading.
The products staying power is relatively good, it lasted me from 10am til around 1, even though I had eaten. The glossy finish also stayed well and I got a few compliments on how my lips looked. I would of liked it to last longer though considering the price I paid.
The price of this product is £9 which I find to be incredibly expensive. I would not have brought it without the £5 off (meaning I paid £4). It is very overpriced considering that the product doesn't seem to last a long period of time as I would expect from something this dear.
I would recommend this product to anyone who has the £5 off voucher but it is not worth the full £9. The tube is stylish, the colour is gorgeous but it doesn't last as long as I would like it to. But if you would like gorgeous colour that you do not mind reapplying then this would be perfect for you!
I was lucky enough to receive the full-size version of this lipstick in a free gift from No.7. The colour I have is Excite. This costs £10 and is available on the Boots website in 12 colours, so there is probably one here for everyone. The product promises to add gloss and glamour to your lips with a slick of sheer colour.
Firstly I must mention the packaging of this lipstick, which is different to the silver tube pictured above. At a glance it appears to be a black or navy blue tube. But look closer and the tube is actually a petrol blue colour, shot through with glitter. So up close this packaging is really lovely looking! It's very glam and I really love the look this gives the product.
Inside the lipstick is a thin cylinder with a slanted, flat top (so a little different to the more traditional 'bullet' shaped lipstick). The colour of the Excite shade that I have is a quite deep raspberry red colour with a touch of glitter - and strangely it has a hint of blue to it as well. It also looks very glossy. It's quite a full-on colour which looks a bit daunting in the tube, especially if you prefer more subtle hints of colour as I do.
The lipstick goes onto the lips really smoothly and has a glossy feel to it, rather than a creaminess. It goes on very easily and is non-sticky.
And on the lips the effect is really lovely. It provides a lovely hint of colour, which is like the deep raspberry in the tube but not too intense or overdone. It really does look more like a lip gloss and has a lovely shine to it. It also makes lips appear quite full and sexy.
I really love this product. For me, it provides the perfect balance between the colour of a lipstick and the look of a gloss. It's really pleasant to apply it it does feel nice on the lips. One negative, though, is that it doesn't have great staying power - it is completely unsticky which means it does tend to wear off quite quickly, which is a shame. And I think it is also slightly overpriced. So that makes it 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to four because I am a fan overall.
A lovely glossy lipstick - shame about the price!
While taking advantage of one of Boots No7's 'gift with purchase', I found in my little stash of goodies a lipstick/gloss that has become one of my firm favourites.
The colour provided in the gift was 'Lovely', a nice deep rosy pink, which alas is not my colour. So my mum was the happy recipient - and on her it looks wonderful. However, after trying the lipstick I was so impressed with the feel of it on my lips, and its staying power, that I marched right back to Boots to buy one of the other colours for myself.
I was looking for a soft brown shade. Unfortunately, not all the 12 shades available on the website were carried on the shelf of my local store. As I don't like to buy lipsticks without trying the colour on my lips first, I asked advice from the very friendly No7 consultant. Between us we decided on 05, 'Attract'.
At the consultant's suggestion, I wiped away the top layer of the tester with a clean tissue, and then felt safe enough to apply it directly to my lips. I know this lady, and felt assured that she wouldn't suggest something that would be unhygienic. Don't worry, I didn't catch anything nasty! She even produced a large mirror so that I could check the colour properly without having to resort to my small handbag mirror. 'Attract' was exactly the gentle brown shade I had been hoping for.
The lipstick container is dark green with flecks of shimmer (not the silver tubes shown on the dooyoo picture), and a sticker on my new purchase states that it is a new, improved formula. Twisting the tube brings up the angled lipstick, which has a wonderful soft sheen. I find with lipsticks like this, which are a cross between a lipstick and a lip gloss, that I don't need to use a lip brush but can apply the product directly to my lips.
It feels rich and silky as you apply it, almost like a very high quality lip balm. This particular shade looks a bit like that too. It's very subtle, and looks soft and shiny. The lipstick stays on my lips for ages, does not dry out at all, and still looks good hours later.
Boots website states that the lipstick formulation is 'Enhanced with natural waxes and Theobroma oil', which is apparently found in chocolate! It describes the lipstick as providing 'A slick of sheer colour'. I'd certainly go along with that! I can find no mention of this lipstick's previous SPF15 rating, and for that reasons I am giving it four stars instead of five.
Boots also say that 'If you're aiming for a simple stain effect, apply a simple [did they mean 'single'?] coat of colour and blot. Add another liberal coat if you're looking for maxiumum impact and a brighter colour'.
The lipstick costs £10. However, if you can take advantage of one of No7's regular £5 discount vouchers, this is a really good way of bringing a fairly expensive range to within reach of most purses.
Although I wear make up most days I find that for the last several years I have not bothered to wear a lip colour. The main reason for this is my lips get dry throughout the day and I always carry a lip balm or Vaseline tin with me and apply throughout the day to keep them feeling nice.
Several times throughout the year boots give away free £5 no 7 vouchers for you to spend in store. I use many of the no 7 products but recently found myself with 2 extra vouchers and a full make up bag and some spares so rather than just buy another blusher or nail polish I decided to look at the lipsticks.
As I mentioned I haven't worn a lip colour for a long time so I was reluctant to get a strong colour which would be very noticeable and that is when I saw the Sheer Temptations collection. There were not a great selection of colours to choose from but I wanted one just a bit more than my natural lip colour and I found this with number 20 Entice.
I have used the lipstick every day since I bought it and find it glides on very nicely and looks subtle, yes you can tell I am wearing a lipstick but it does not over power me and does what make up in my opinion is meant to do for everyday wear, enhance what I already have. It feels smooth and I find myself re applying it at lunchtime just to touch up the colour and re moisturise my lips. It has a slight glossy shine appearance but not as much as a lip gloss.
At £10 it is not the cheapest around but I will be looking out for another £5 off voucher again in the future and stocking up on this product.
All in all a great subtle colour for daytime wear and it can be made darker and to stand out more by applying in a thicker layer for evening wear.
Boots No 7 Sheer Temptation lipstick
Personally, I don't own many lipsticks; I prefer the texture and feeling of a lip gloss. However, one of the lipsticks I do own is the Boots No 7 sheer temptation lipstick. One of the things I like best about this lipstick is that it includes SPF 15 which makes it a great product to take on holiday or wear when the sun is shining. I tend to get very dry lips in the winter but also in the summer and I feel a bit better when I know that I am wearing this lipstick with its included sunscreen to try and protect my lips from any added suffering.
Boots No7 say that "Sheer Temptation Lipstick gives lips a sheer and glossy finish, while moisturising the lips". I find that the lipstick does give me a sheer and glossy finish that I do like but I don't think it is a great moisturising lipstick, sometimes if I just wear this I find quite the opposite, that it slightly dries my lips. The good things about this being a sheer lipstick is that you can apply this without a mirror and be fairly confident you've made an ok job. No way should you ever apply a strong colour without paying attention that it isn't going everywhere.
As the name of this lipstick suggests it really is just a sheer splash of colour, I find that this gives my lips a glossy look but only a hint of colour, which is exactly what I was after. Personally, I find that I rarely suit strong lipstick colours despite how much I would want to. Sheer temptation lipstick is available in six rather seductively named shades; excite, tempt, entice, fascinate, smoulder and attract. I own the colour entice, and it really is a very sheer lipstick with only a hint of the colour, I do like this, but personally, I would have preferred it to have had a tad more depth to the colour.
The sheer temptation lipstick wears pretty well, it doesn't have the best staying power of all the lipsticks I own, but it does stay looking nice for a reasonable amount of time. It really depends on what you are doing and how often you want to re-apply this.
The packaging is simple and attractive, it is a typical lipstick applicator designed in a silver plastic casing. It is perhaps a bit too simple but it is nice and unfussy. As with a lot of Boots No 7 range the lipstick is fragrance free and hypo-allergenic making it suitable for almost everyone.
To buy this from the Boots No 7 counter would cost you £9.50, making this a rather expensive lipstick. I bought mine when Boots (as they often do) were running a £5 off voucher. For £4.50 I think this is a great lipstick, however, I doubt it is quite good enough to justify nearly a tenner. I own lots of other lip glosses that I prefer more.
--My overall opinion--
I am going to award this a four out of five, I would in truth be more inclined to give this three and a half out of five. Overall, I have been and I am very happy with my lipstick, I bought this when on promotion and I would buy this again for the same reduced price. I do like the fact that it has an included SPF 15 making it an ideal summer make-up essential.
Another great lipstick from No7, they just keep getting better and better. My No7 lipstick collection keeps growing especailly with colours like these avalible. I have 2 out of the 6 different colours avaliable and love them!
So there is 6 colours, not many I hear you thinking but it is plenty as the colours are brilliant for day and evening wear they stay and look great!
Your lips shine and glisten and look so hydrated and well care well looked after, great if you are like me and suffer from terrible dry lips they mine look horrible and it is terrible to try and find my must have lipstick. This lives up to everything it claims and more.
It not only moisturises your lips it also protects them with Spf 15 so great for those summer days you can go out knowing your lips look great and are well protected too.
Sheer Temptation stays put for hours and does not dry out or fade the colour stays as beautiful and full from day to night. As there is a variety of colours you are most likly to find your ideal day colour and your ideal evening colour, they are so versatile. What more could you ask for?
This lipstick case is silver which is different from the traditional black more distingtive and easier to find in your handbag and make up bag, the lid is also silver which means you will have to use a tester to make sure you get the colour you really want, do not just go by the colour on the lid it can be slightly missleading.
Oh and before I forget prices: £9.50, not so bad this is really worth the money.
I have bought a couple of these lipsticks from No 7 - I think the first time was because I had been handed one of Boots's £5 off no.7 products vouchers and I was keen to spend in store there and then. I hit lucky though with my choice as this has been my favourite lipstick this summer.
I don't know if all the shades are the same but the ones I bought have been more of a lip gloss than a lipstick as the colour has been quite light. The one I have at the moment is called Entice and is a light raspberry colour and has a sparkle in it. The lipstick goes on very easily - and unfortunately comes off rather easily as well and needs reapplying quite often. The fact that it has an SPF of 15 is great and have used it throughout the summer for protection from the sun.
As the lipstick wears off quite quickly and needs reapplying often the product doesn't last too long - which is fine as I used my £5 vouchers towards the price but otherwise I would say they weren't too good value. The other complaint I would have is that the casing is quite flimsy and the lid comes off quite easily - I have often had to fish around in the bottom of my bag to find it.
I don't generally wear lipsticks, generally just balms, or clear gloss. Being a little bored with my look I decided to get myself down to boots and take advantage of the offers they had on No 7 products.
The shade I went for in sheer temptation is excite. It's a lovely sheer, shimmery, dark reddish colour. The lipstick goes on smoothly and easily. It's very moisturising and leaves my lips in lovely condition and it looks really good too.
It's quite natural looking, and is suitable for day as well as night as I tend to play up my eyes more in makeup and leave the lips a little more natural.
The price isn't bad when you have the £5 off vouchers, or when they're on 3 for 2 but otherwise a bit more than I'd want to spend. Because of the quality of the product though I'd probably pay it anyway.
I went and purchased yet another one of these luxourious lipsticks again the other day . I now own alot of there colours in the range, as i find them perfect subtle wear for daytime and a calming colour for evening wear .
The tube it comes in is what i think stylish silver and very hard wearing in your handbag.
Once you open the lipstick it has a nice feel to the hand and just enough appears at the top , it is shaped to glide on the lips very easily , which it does.
I find the colour range is a good variety an dthey last a long time , i had my favorite one i used nearly everyday , lasted for a year .
The colours are not to bright and give a slight shimmery effect, and whilst you wear it, it feels like your lips are getting moisturised, as it does actually state it does.
I find the colour stays on for around an hour ish depending on your eating / drinking habits etc.
Overall it does sound steep the rrp £9 but these lip colours do last long and are nice subtle colours to add to your collection , so well worth the money i think . Even better if you get the boots voucher to give them a try.
As with most of the No.7 products I own, I bought this with a £5 off voucher which I received for spending over £10 in Boots.
~About the range~
Boots have three different lipstick ranges - sheer temptation, moisture drench, and stay perfect. The lipstick I purchased is from the sheer temptation range and is designed to give a sheer, glossy finish. There are only six shades available in this range - from Attract (a nude colour, and the one I purchased), through to Fascinate which is a deep red. The lipstick has SPF15 which means your lips are getting protected from the sun while you're wearing it.
This lipstick comes in a matt silver tube, with the No.7 logo on the lid. On removing the lid, you will find the lipstick cased in a shiny silver tube, and as with most lipsticks simply twists up to reveal the product. I really like the tube it comes in, I think it looks quite stylish, although unfortunately it isn't too hard wearing as the lid of mine got cracked a couple of weeks after I'd bought it.
I usually apply this directly onto the lips rather than using a brush. Because the tip is angled it's easy to apply, and it's quite smooth so glides on effortlessly.
The first thing I noticed about this when I applied it, was that it feels very waxy and thick. After a couple of minutes, this feeling did seem to fade a bit though, and my lips felt quite moisturised. The colour was nice, it was exactly as it looked in the tube, and gave a subtle glossy finish, without looking to thick.
As far as staying power goes, I wasn't sure what to expect with this, as I've found No.7 make-up a bit hit and miss in the past. Some of their products - their stay perfect eyeshadow for example - is fantastic, but other products such as their Natural Definition mascara have been incredibly poor. I found this to be sort of middle of the road. I would say it stayed on an hour or two before it needed re-application, but for the price I would have expected it to stay all day.
~Price and Availability~
Talking of the price, this costs a crazy £9. Obviously I got it for £4 as I had a voucher, but I still think that it is way overpriced, especially considering it wears off so quickly. As it's part of the No.7 range it can only be bought from Boots or Boots.com
I definitely don't think it is worth paying full price for, but for the £4 I paid it is quite good. The tube is stylish, the colour is good and didn't look too over the top, and its good that it has added SPF. I'm disappointed with the fact it came off so quickly and that the lid cracked so easily, but otherwise I'd recommend it. Four stars!
Also posted on ciao by me some time ago.
I had this lipstick as part of a free gift set for spending £15 on No7 products, so it was pretty good value for money as I got a lot of other good No7 stuff with it.
The colour I have is Excite, which is just slightly darker than my natural lip colour. It's kind of a dark red, but it's not really a solid colour because it's see through. I like this colour because it's not too bright or pale, and it's good for everyday wear. It's also sparkly, which makes it good for wearing when going out.
It's very easy to apply, and doesn't need much to get a nice even coverage. It also goes on quickly, and looks really nice. It also lasts for a while once it's on so it doesn't need to be re-applied very often.
However it can make my lips dry, so it might be best to put a little Vaseline (or something similar) on top.
I'd recommend this lipstick as it's not too expensive when you buy it when there's a special offer on No7 products.
(I've also put this review on Ciao.)
*** Boots Claim ***
No7 is only available from Boots. They claim that Sheer Temptation Lipstick provides sheer, glossy, moisturising colour. I like and agree with that, so read on to find out why I wasn't happy with my purchase.
*** Colours ***
It only comes in six colours, but as it is designed not to give bold colour, I didn't find it a problem to pick a colour that I thought would enhance my natural beauty. (Well hubby tells me I'm beautiful anyway, especially if he is after something!)
After experimenting with the testers in the store, I chose the colour "Entice", as it is the closest to my natural colour. This is a light plum colour. I hoped it would live up to its enticing name.
The other colours, which also have temptress-like names, would suit those looking for reds, browns, a darker plum or pink.
*** My Trial ***
After opening the tube, I was disappointed with the size of the lipstick. The container is 8.5 cms long, but only has a scrawny 2.5 cms of product.
The colour was exactly as I hoped, and gave a sheer glossy sheen of plum to my lips, which also felt very moisturised.
I thought I would trial this by putting it on after I had had breakfast, a couple of hours before I ate or drank anything else. I checked on it before I had another cup of coffee and the colour had significantly reduced. After I daintily drunk a cup of coffee the obvious extra colour had fully gone, although my lips still felt moisturised so I guess a little of the product was still there.
I continued to use this lipstick when moisturising was more important to me than colour, but I won't be buying it again.
A bit of good news is that the shiny, silvery, metallic looking, twist up case did not oxidise on my hands to leave an unpleasant smell, as other similar looking packaging from different brands has done in the past, so I was pleased with that.
*** Value for Money ***
I think most cosmetic brands are over-priced, and at a list price of £9.50, this definitely falls into that category.
However, I don't buy No7 unless they have one of their many special offers on.
*** Comparison with other No7 Lipstick Types ***
I think the other two kinds of No7 lipstick are a lot better.
No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick doesn't "stay perfect", but it does last a lot longer than this one. I think the Stay Perfect one is good to use when my lips are in great condition. If my lips are dry, I need to use a lot of moisturiser before I use it, to stop the lipstick coming off with the top layer of my lips (ouch). This seems to be particularly relevant to the cold winter months.
My favourite general purpose lipstick is now No7 Moisture Drench. It is quick and easy to use, and lasts longer on me than the Stay Perfect variety. If I use the colour Chic, it gives just as natural a look as the Sheer Temptation variety.
*** My Recommendation ***
My conclusion is that this Sheer Temptation Lipstick has very poor colour staying power, but with a redeeming feature of great moisturising qualities that last a lot longer than the colour. However, this is a very expensive way to moisturise your lips.
Don't waste your money on this variety, as other No7 lipsticks, which are the same price, are a lot better value.
