“ Brand: Boots / Type: Nail Varnish / Suitable for: Nails „
As a result of biting my nails over the years, they have become brittle, weak and splitting; there are white stains on my nails appearing every here and there (which, as I was told, is a sign of being vitamin A deprived), they break very easily and they are very uneven. I therefore seem to be working my way round most of the nail hardeners and conditioners in Boots and my voucher encouraged me to pick No7 So Strong Nail Care this time.
This nail hardener comes in a bottle that looks exactly the same like any of the nail varnishes. The bottom part is a transparent glass container with golden letters on the front with the product name whereas the black lid is made of plastic and has a brush attached to it. What I found really disappointing is that there is no information about how to use the hardener and I had to rely on my gut feeling. The bottle is firm and the lid fairly easy to twist.
The scent is quite strong and not very pleasant - as for me, this nail hardener smells like nail varnish remover! I am glad that it disappears off very quickly but I still apply it with my window open.
As mentioned above, the lack of clear instructions forced me to rely on my gut feeling which told me to apply it as a nail varnish. As the product is extremely runny (very water-like) and the brush is reasonably soft and just the right size, it was very easy to spread it on my nails. I wasn't entirely sure whether the cosmetic will be absorbed into my nails or will dry as a nail varnish but within a couple of minutes I learnt that the latter was true. The conditioner dried surprisingly quickly and gave my nails a lovely shine which I really liked. Surprisingly, the hardener started to literally peel off my nails within a day or two. Unfortunately, I cannot completely escape household chores such as dish washing which I think may have contributed to the short life of the conditioner on my nails but I have never had a problem with any of the previous nail varnishes or hardeners. As I like my nails to look perfect, I had to remove the nail hardener from my nails every other day and re-apply it.
I persevered in that and after a month I noticed an improvement in the condition of my nails. I could no longer see any white dots on my nails, there were no split ends and my nails no longer break so easily. They have definitely become harder. Even though some of my nails are still not very even, I can see a slight improvement there as well. After I stopped using it, the condition of my nails remained the same which I was really pleased with. I am planning to continue using the product as I like the shine it gave my nails and I would like to improve their condition further.
The standard price for the No7 So Strong Nail Care is £7.00 for 10ml and I am not entirely convinced it is worth the price taking into account that I need to re-apply it very often. The lack of instructions doesn't really help but overall I think it worked and I didn't use very much of it - a little really does go a long way in this case.
Thank you for reading my review.
The point about the No7 So Strong Nail Care, is mean't to be that is strengthens your nails and stops them becoming chipped and damaged due to every day stresses on the nails themselves.
The No7 range has a lovely range of nail care items and having tried many of them, this seemed like a really good product to try out. The varnish can be painted on to freshly cleaned nails with the applicator brush which is built in to the top of the bottle. Its easy to apply and does leave a nice sheen on the nails.
You can apply one or two coats of the the No7 So Strong Nail Care Varnish directly to clean nails and leave them like that if you want. But you can also top up your look, by adding any of the funky colours from the No7 nail varnish range straight over the top and then follow this up with a good layer of No7 Top Coat, which will give a really good hard wearing finish.
No7 say that the product will 'strengthen and protect' your nails, which will help to prevent them from splitting and breaking. The results you can get from the product do seem to depend on how often you apply the varnish and how many coats you apply.
Not really sure if its the effect of the actual product that really provides a good strengthening effect. As it could be due to the fact that you are taking more care of your nails and then also applying more layers of coloured varnish and top coat, to give a thicker and more durable protective layer for your nails.
Either way I did notice some benefit from using the product and so would have to give it at least a 4 star rating. All No7 products are hypo-allergenic and dermatologically tested which is really good to know.
The price of the No7 So Strong Nail Care is £6.75 for 10mls of product, but can be bought for less when on promotion. Boots products often have £5 off voucher deals or 3 4 2 product promotions and these are well worth looking out for. If you are able to pick up the product for just £1.75 after money saving voucher, you have really bagged your self a bargain.
I like to have nice nails, and I went through a stage of always having professional acrylics done, which looked great at the time, but this has reeked havoc with my nails and left them quite brittle and thin. I needed to find something to help them gain some strength back so I could grow my own nails again, and I popped into Boots to see what I could find.
Whilst in Boots I came across the Boots No7 So Strong Nail Care. It looks just like a clear nail varnish, and even comes in the same bottle shape and packaging style as the No7 nail varnish range. The bottle has its own applicator brush in the lid, so it is really easy to apply to your nails, and the product is actually pretty good.
I expected this to smell like a nail varnish, but it actually hardly has a smell to it at all, and it slides onto the nails really easy with the applicator brush. It dries onto the nails in about a minute, and leaves a nice shiny finish. I actually use this under my nail varnish, and it works as a good solid base coat, as well as a nail builder. After using this once or twice a week for a couple of months, my nails are now stronger than they were before I had acrylics put on. I still continue to use it now, just to keep my nails strong, and I am still no way near finished the same bottle I first bought.
You can buy this product is most Boots stores, and it costs around £3, which is a total bargain in my opinion, as you get a product that really works over a reasonable time scale, and lasts for ages. I think it is a perfect product to help your nails recover and gain some much needed strength and I totally recommend it to anyone.
So to be honest I expected a lot more from NO7 than this I found this product a real dissapointment.
So the nail varnish is clear making it good for everyday wear and you can use it as a base and top coat colour but other than that it does not really do much else.
The clear bottle is clear to spot and very easy to find and it is usually kept with the nail care bits with in the shop.
So being as it says So Strong and being in the nail care section you would think this product is designed to proctect nails and help them become strong again and to proctect nails and stop them splitting, which it is designed to do however after weeks of using this product I seen no improvement and as a huge NO7 fan I was left dissapointed but not put off as NO7 do some fantastic products, just this one is not for me.
I'm glad I used my £5 gift voucher for this product because if I had paid the full £6.25 I would be very annoyed. My advise is stay away from this.
The bottle that this product comes in is the standard shape of a No7 nail varnish bottle, it is quite curvy, with the bottle top lid being longer and the base wider and shorter. The base is clear glass and has gold lettering printed on the front and back, through the glass you can see the brush for applying the product. The lettering on the front has the product name 'No7 So Strong', and on the back there is a small amount of information related to who produces the product (Boots), a recycling logo, size of the product (10ml) and the fact that it is flammable. The top of the bottle is black with the No7 logo in gold letters, the top of the bottle is made from plastic and it has tiny glitter flecks in it.
From the name of the product I have assumed that it is meant to strengthen nails, my nails are generally very weak and bendy so I am always on the look out for a product which will make them stronger and less likely to split and break. I applied this product in the same way I would a normal nail varnish, it went on smoothly and easily. The brush picks up quite a lot of the product and even after wiping off some of the excess I had enough on the brush from one 'dunk' to paint all of my nails on one hand.
I think that this product has definitely helped to make my nails feel stronger, they don't seem to bend quite so easily! It also looks good on, making my nails look clean and shiny. But the really annoying thing about this product is the fact that it chips off so easily! It has mostly all chipped off after a day leaving you with just a centred patch of the varnish on your nails. So this varnish is ok if you don't mind having to reapply regularly or just want your nails to look clean and shiny for a short amount of time!
I also tried using this as a base coat, but after applying the colour on top and it having dried it all peeled off in one entire layer! I'm not sure if this was the colour I was using or the 'So Strong' varnish!
I will continue to use this product because I do think it works, and I don't mind having chipped varnish on my nails because this product is clear it's not very noticeable!
