Advantages: Lovely colour and quality
Disadvantages: Doesn't stay perfect!
No. 7 by Boots is one of the better high street make up brands that Boots offer, and I have found myself buying and enjoying their products more and more as time goes on. They do have a lovely range of cosmetics on offer, all with superb quality. Throughout my experience of using No. 7 products, I have found that I have had more luck with some No.7 cosmetics than others.
This No. 7 Stay Perfect Lipstick was one of my guilty impulse buys whilst I was shopping inside a Boots store; the name of the product particularly encouraged me to buy it. A good lipstick is one thing, but a good lipstick that stays good for ages is another, as I had had problems with lipsticks looking great at first but then leaving me looking like a clown at the end of the day. Because of this, I thought that this lipstick was well worth a try.
No. 7 products do not exactly come cheap despite it being a shop's own brand; it is no value brand, but it is not too expensive either. I have found that most No. 7 products are worth their price and I usually go back to Boots for more once the original has run out because of the effectiveness of the product. This Stay Perfect Lipstick has the original price of £10, which is not bad for a lipstick, but then, you can get good lipsticks for less from other reputable brands as well. However, this was helped out by a £5 off No. 7 products voucher I used on it- Boots have been regularly dishing these out to their customers. This made the lipstick cost only £5, which I thought was a far better price for a lipstick that, OK, was still not extraordinarily cheap but was far better than just acceptably priced either. I think that it was quite good value for money using the voucher, but if I had to pay the RRP, I might have had a few doubts whether or not this lipstick could really live up to the amount of money spent.
This is packaged in a slightly curved lipstick tube with nothing but 'No. 7' in gold lettering visible on it, that looks quite stylish. The body is made of a sturdy yet lightweight plastic, so it is quite portable- ideal for carrying around with you whilst you are on the go. The cap can be removed to reveal the lipstick; this can be rolled up and down as you would with a normal lipstick. I found that this was slightly less wide than other lipsticks I had used in the past- this makes it easier to manoeuvre. There is a slanted tip, though it is less chisled than regular lipsticks. Altogether, this is quite easy to apply onto your lips.
I like the texture of this lipstick; it is very smooth and slick to apply and it feels great on your lips. It is a slightly creamy texture that is beautiful to apply, with its even texture which does not insist on being too drying. This must be one of my most pleasant to apply lipsticks.
The shade of lipstick I purchased was the Raspberry (38) one, a very rich dark pink that is bordering red. It looks far more red when it is applied onto your lips or just tested with a swipe on your skin than it looks on the actual lipstick. The colour looks great once applied- very smooth and sophisticated. There is a nice soft shimmer to this lipstick which also looks lovely. You really do not need a lot of lipstick to create maximum impact, which is good as it makes sure that the lipstick lasts for a long time. If you apply it very lightly then you get a really nice subtle dark pink colour.
However, there is a single major problem with this product; this is that, though it claims it can stay perfect for 8 hours, I would say that it is more like 1 hour, or maybe 2 hours if you are lucky, and that is without eating or drinking anything. Then the colour will start to smudge of fade, which is unattractive, but more to the point, it does not live up to its claims. Of course, I have come across worse, but those lipsticks did not claim to be so long lasting. I am not very happy about this since this seemed like such a good buy at the time, but unfortunately, No.7 did not live up to their promise. This lipstick does need constant touching up and reapplication to 'stay perfect', which is not the point of this particular product at all.
In conclusion, I have to say this is a nice lipstick that looks nice and feels nice to apply. This could have been such a good lipstick, but unfortunately, it does not stay perfect.
Summary: Nice lipstick, but its a shame it won't stay perfect!
