I have always worn nail varnish on my toes and recently I have started to wear it on my finger nails too, the problem is, I find that no matter what brand I choose, it seems to chip pretty quickly so to try to preserve the paint, I invested in a top coat. As part of the No 7 range, it is exclusive to Boots, in store and online but also available on places like EBay, the RRP is £6 for a 10ml bottle. The bottle just likes the rest of the Stay Perfect nail polishes; it measures a few inches tall and holds approximately 10ml of varnish. It comes in a glass bottle which is see-through with a black lid which has the brand name in gold lettering and to the front of the bottle, the product name id detailed. Unlike my No 7 Nail varnish, this doesn't smell too strong when you first unscrew the lid. Application is really easy; the brush is quite wide, wide enough to be able to cover my finger names in just one sweep. There is nothing complicated about applying, I just add on top of my nails after I have painted; it has the same sort of consistency as normal nail varnish. After applying, it gives my nails a real nice shine, helps the colour to stay vibrant but also stops them from chipping for a good couple of days longer than normal. I have also used the top coat without any nail varnish as I find it gives my nails a nice shine. I have found that the bottle last me ages, I have had mine nearly a year now and there is still loads left so it does work out good value for money. Although there are probably cheaper versions on the market, what I like about Boots is they nearly always have some sort of offer on the No 7 range, whether it is 3 for 2, or free gifts. I brought this with a £5 money off voucher so it worked out to be a quite a bargain! Boots boast that this is touch dry within 60 seconds, I find it to be pretty accurate as I am able to touch my nails not long after however to dry completely, it did take a good couple of minutes. Overall, I would recommend this top coat as it definitely did pro-long the time between touch-up/re-applying and I would therefore give it 5 out of 5 stars. Thanks for reading.
When it comes to looking after my nails I do try and ensure they look as nice as possible especially as I see clients on a regular basis and don't want them to see nails which are chewed and look damaged. Therefore, I do have gel nails as my own break easily. To ensure that they look good in between going to my friend who does them for me it is essential to use the proper products especially when wanting to change nail polish colours. One of these essential products is a top coat. I have previously reviewed Boots No7 Smooth Nail Base Coat and it is now turn to review the No7 Perfect Nail Top Coat. I bought them both at the same time and at £5.50 it is priced reasonably and as I regularly use No7 products which I really like I didn't have any concerns about this at all. If you don't know the brand No7 is a cosmetics range by Boots and is only available at Boots stores and on their website. They make a higher end of high street cosmetics but not ridiculously expensive. ======== What is it? ======== The No7 Perfect Nail Top Coat is quite literally what is says on the bottle. It is quite simply a top coat of clear nail varnish which goes on top of your chosen nail colour. It is designed to not only protect your nail but also the colour underneath. It is often used as a varnish which gives a shiny finish although a clear varnish will give the same effect. ======= Packaging ======= The top coat comes in exactly the same sort of bottle as the other nail polishes in the collection. A clear glass bottle which is slightly curved at the sides with a black plastic screw on top. The No7 gold logo is on the top and the product name is written in gold font around the bottle itself. Now, due to the simplicity of the gold font this can of course easily be mistaken for a clear nail varnish so you do need to be careful when you pick it up off the shelf that it is indeed a top coat! ===== In Use ===== The top coat is completely clear in colour and is the same consistency as any decent nail polish so not too thick and not too runny either. The top coat should be applied to completely dry nails whether applying over a colour or even just on natural nails, the nails have to be completely dry even more so with coloured nails as you don't want the colour to run which would stick to the applicator brush and then ruin the whole bottle. It is applied using the small black applicator brush which I find quite a good size and it doesn't seem to hold excessive polish which is ideal as there is nothing worse than applying a nail varnish and having too much of it on the nail. The top coat blends quickly and gives a natural finish. Best of all it dries within a minute or so which is even better. I hate waiting around for nail varnishes to dry but this dries incredibly quickly and it is completely bone dry. Now, I have used it both on coloured and natural nails and seem to get the same effect. The top coat will only stay shiny for one or two days and then you need to re-apply which is a slight downside. However, on the plus side it doesn't chip so the nail varnish underneath (if you've chosen a colour) stays completely in tact with no horrible chips. It is also incredibly easy to remove and takes one wipe of a cotton wool pad with a bit of nail varnish remover and it comes off completely. ===== Overall ===== A nice top coat which does leave your nails nice and smooth for a few days although ideally I'd like it to last longer the fact that it doesn't chip makes up for it. I guess a clear nail varnish could do the same job but a top coat is specifically there to protect a nail colour where as a clear varnish isn't. For me I give it 4 stars, knocking 1 star off simply because it dulls down quite easily. ========= Product Info ========= Brand: No7 Price: £5.50 Availability: Boots only
I bought this top coat from Boots when I had a £5 off No. 7 voucher. The top coat comes presented in an attractive looking bottle complete with applicator brush. The brush is of good quality. It feels lovely when it's brushed against the nails. The smell of the top coat is quite strong so I would suggest opening some windows before you start using it. The top coat is easy to use. You simply apply a coat of nail polish, wait for it to dry and then apply this top coat over the top. The top coat leaves your nails looking shiny and it helps to finish off the nail polish application. The top coat takes around ten to fifteen minutes to dry completely but once it has dried it looks great. The top coat helps to seal your nail polish leaving you with a longer lasting result. My nail polish usually chips after a couple of days but using this top coat leaves me with a much better result and my nail polish remains chip free for around five days. You only need a small blob (I love that word!) each time that you use the top coat as a little goes a long way so it will last you a while. It's great quality and it leaves your nails looking healthy. I would recommend this top coat. You can wash the pots without worrying about chipping your nails!
=== The product === This is a top coat designed to be applied on top of your finished nail colour. This will strengthen the nail polish, ensuring the colour stays strong and help keep your colour chip free. === The packaging === This top coat comes provided in a small standard nail polish bottle. The lid unscrews and built in to the lid is the bristle applicator that allows you to apply this top coat. The packaging is strong and can withstand being knocked off the bathroom cabinet numerous times, as it is in my home, without becoming damaged. === How to use this === Once I have applied a base coat, I then apply my nail polish colour of choice, allow this to try and then cover with this top coat. Obviously I use the brush provided (built in to the lid) to allow me to evenly apply this and I use a cotton bud with nail polish remover to remove any small spillages around my cuticles and nail bed once the top coat has dried. This takes a few minutes to dry completely but I usually leave it around an hour before doing much. I make sure that my nail polish has been applied for at least an hour before I apply this also making my nail painting quite a time consuming task. === Where to purchase this & for how much? === This can be purchased from Boots stores and www.Boots.co.uk and the current price (October 2011) is £7.00 per 10ml bottle. I received mine as part of a number 7 gift set at the start of this year and I got several different products from the 'stay perfect' range built up as part of a manicure kit. === Overall opinion === I love this top coat. I have used it about 15 or 20 times now and it has not even been half used yet. A little goes a long way and I find that just one or two dips in to the bottle is enough to coat a full nail. The bristles are simple and well sized making the application of this top coat a breeze. Once I have left this top coat to dry fully I find that it protects my nails from chips for up to a week and it also enhances the colour of some of the nail polishes that I have been using recently. One such example is a shimmery nail polish that I tried recently. This looked a little murky and then once I applied this top coat I was able to have gorgeous purple looking glittery nails. The drying time of this is a little longer than some of the top coats I have tried before, however, this is reflected in the longevity of this top coat which appears to last a lot longer than some other ones that I have tried. I love knowing that I can give myself a manicure, go for the 'French polish' look or even just apply this over the top of another nail polish to provide long lasting protection. My nail polish definitely lasts a lot longer thanks to using this and I no longer paint my nails only to find that they are chipped within hours. This coat is a pleasure to use, is not overly strong in scent (well, not compared to any other nail polishes) and a little goes a long way. While £7.00 puts this at the higher end of the high street top coats on offer this is definitely worth every penny, particularly if you can use one of those £5 off No 7 product vouchers that seem to be frequently offered in store at Boots with a minimum spend.
I love popping nail polish on my toes whenever I can. I own loads of colours from different brands and love the stuff. I never paint my fingernails mind you cos I bite them pretty badly though as I type this I am trying really hard not to! Now I like my glossy nail polish to be just that and to stay on as perfect as possible until I decide I don't want it there anymore and so I do own a couple of top coats. The other day whilst in Boots though I got myself given a five pound off voucher to use on any No7 beauty product and decided to put it toward this as I didn't actually want or need anything else! The Packaging: The bottle is really sleek and tidy in design and holds 10ml of the product. Its a glass bottle which is see through with a long black, shiny lid to the top of it that twists on and off and within that there is a plastic 'wand' and a decent quality long black brush. On the lid and all in gold lettering we are told it is No7 and then on the main of the bottle that it is Stay Perfect Top Coat and then on the back of the bottle we are told that it is flammable, the size is given and contact details for Boots are given (as this is of course a Boots own product!). Nice enough bottle this is and it holds plenty of the product as well. Using It: What this is, is a completely clear nail polish/top coat that can be worn alone to give a subtle and clean shine to nails or over any nail polish of your choice. If painting your nail first simply allow however many coats you are using to thoroughly dry first and then apply just once coat of this as evenly as you can. Because its clear and wet you can see where you are applying it to and it smells like a regular nail polish really. It dries in a couple of minutes flat and sets firm and no matter whether I'm paying attention or not I never get streaks or in a mess and it doesn't damage my nail polish colour I have already applied if I have done one (or two). This gives a great natural shine to the nail, isn't heavy and protects my nail and/or colour I'm wearing. I find this stops my nail polish colour from fading and chipping as soon as it would without using it and I really do like this on its own as it makes my nails looks gently glossed up and really fresh looking! Usually I get chips and/or fade within a couple of days even with good nail polishes however this keeps my colour protected for well over a week and looking fresh and bright. Easy to apply and simple to remove this is simply a great value and quality product and one I now use very often indeed! Only available in Boots stores costing £7.00 a bottle. This review is also posted on Ciao under this same username.
Another clear nail varnish. But how does this one differ from the rest. Firstly the bottle is nice and secure and I have never had any leakages. It holds 10ml. And in the colour variations of this brand you can clearly see the shade of the varnish through the glass. The brush is nothing special, it doesn't particularly 'fan' out well when applying and so you have to use multiple strokes on the same nail to get full coverage. This sometimes results in a lumpy looking varnish - certainly not what you want from a top coat product. The varnish itself dries quickly which is always a bonus especially when the product isn't sold as fast dry. I can wear this for a few days without it chipping but then that doesn't seem any different to if I had only applied a colour and not a top coat. So I am left thinking; was it really worth the extra effort to apply this? My answer is no - as generally it leaves a lumpy finish, it isn't the easiest to apply and it doesn't really pro-long the time between applications. I feel this product is slightly redundant and serves no real purpose so I shall not be buying this again. Don't buy as a 'top-coat' product and if you're after a clear nail varnish buy another brand there are much better out there.
Boots Number 7 Stay perfect top coat. I got this product with one of those famous 'No7 vouchers' which gives you £5, as this product was £6.50 (not how much I would usually pay for a nail varnish) I paid an impressive £1.50. The product: £6.50 for 10ml of product. It is in a clear bottle with a black lid which is a good size so it is easy to hold when you are applying the varnish. It has gold lettering displaying No7 and the words 'stay perfect' Application: Application is very easy and it glides on smoothly. The drying time is good and you don't have to wait to long. Wear: The product wears very well, even when I am work folding jeans and generally using my hands a lot. It wears well with everyday tasks and looks nice and natural and makes your nails shiny. I find if I prep my nails well before hand (Buff, file etc) it lasts longer. I have put this product on as a base coat before with nail varnish on top-which goes on well over it. I have then added a top coat. I found when I do this that the nail varnishes literally peeled off my nails after a few days (strange and kind of good as it came clean off the nail with no need for nail varnish). So this product is better used by itself of just as a top coat. Overall if I could afford £6.50 for a nail varnish I would defiantly by this again, in the mean time I will be heading to Boots with my No7 vouchers to purchase more in the range.
I bought this because I wanted to sort out my nails, as that kept breaking and it was getting really annoying ! I spotted this product in Boots when I was looking for some mascara, and just picked it up thinking I'd give it a go :) It is really easy to apply, but you have to be careful not to use too much on one nail, or else it goes quite thick and takes forever to dry - when it eventually does dry it easily rubs off if it comes into contact with anything. However, if you use a thin coat, it dries much faster and stays on longer too. I have used this every other day, and it's as though my nails are much less likely to break, (which saves forking out for some decent false nails!). This is a great product, but if left on for 4 or 5 days, it can start to chip away and if you scratch a bit off by accident, it can take a bit of the top of the nail with it, making your nails quite rough. It is £6.25 at Boots for a 100ml bottle, but this is quite good, because if you use it sparingly, it lasts for a few months.
I love having bright coloured fingernails and toenails however one of the problems which comes with this is the fact that the nail polish chips quickly and after a day or two it needs re-doing otherwise it looks a mess. So while shopping in Boots I picked up No7 top coat, a clear nail varnish to apply to the top of my nice coloured nails which should hopefully reduce the chipping. As it was Boots owen brand it was slightly cheaper then the other top coats you can buy, however from looking at the bottle you wouldnt know! It is almost a perfect cylinder shape apart from where it curves into the lid and then flares back out at the top this gives the bottle a very funky look and so I can see quite young people wanting to buy this. The bottoms half is glass and so you can see the nail varnish (which is clear) the lid is a dark blue/black colour with No7 written elegantly at the top I feel this makes the product look quite sophiticated. The brush is attached to the lid and so when it is uncrewed it comes out with it. The brush is quite a chunky one which worried my slightly that it may be difficult to apply it too my nails. However I found this to be the total opposite the brush is thick enough that you only need to go over the nail once for the varnish to cover your entire nail, which makes applyin it quick and easy. The one drawback is that it takes the nail varnish quite a while to dry I think by about 10 minutes it was completley dry, which is quite a while, so if you do buy this apply it a while before you go out anywhere. However once dry it had given my nails a good shine to them which I really liked and have found that it keeps the nail varnish underneath it good condition, as after a week it was only very slightly chipped. For me this is a must have for those who enjoy having colourful nails!
I've read the other reviews on here for this top coat and there hasn't been much praise for it, which surprises me as I think it's quite good!! I normally use Nails Inc Albert Bridge top coat, but I bought this No.7 Stay Perfect Top Coat a couple of weeks ago using the £5 No7 voucher you get given in Boots when you spend a fiver. As I had the voucher, I only paid £1.10 for it (it's normally £6.10) which I think is a bit of a bargain! I find that the top coat glides on your nails easily and coats them well as it has a good consistency and isn't too thick and gloopy or too thin and watery. It also dries fairly quickly and leaves youe nails looking bright, glossy and professional-looking (in my humble opinion anyway!) I know some people think top coats are a waste of time, but I really do believe they make your nails look like they've been done by a professional and I know it makes your nail varnish last longer - with a coat of this my nail colour has been lasting 4 or more days without chipping, which is about the same time my Nails Inc one lasts. If i'm honest, I prefer the Nails Inc one but only by a little tiny bit (I'm quite loyal to certain brands!) and this is definitely worth a go - esp. if you have a £5 No.7 voucher to use :-)
Boots No 7 products are prominent in by bedroom, I do like them and think they are good value for money in the middle range of beauty products. I don't always wear nail polish but do like wearing it especially if I am going out so like to make it last well and noticed when I had my nails manicured professionally that they always put on a Top coat. Boots No 7 Stay Perfect Top coat is in the same size as the nail varnish in a little glass bottle that starts life with a round base and the black shiny plastic top is oval at the top. There is 10 mls in the bottle and it costs £6.10 from Boots. I love the smell! A rather stronger smell than the old pear drop smell of varnishes long a go, but still one I like to smell. Gosh does that mean I'm into solvent abuse? My husband always knows when I've been using it as he can smell it the instant he comes into the bedroom. It is naturally clear to let the colour of the nail polish shine through. A reasonable consistency neither too thick nor too thin and is easily applied, with the brush attached to the lid. By the time I have finished my second hand the first is dry, but care must still be taken as the layers of polish and top coat are still quite soft. It lets the colour shine through on plain colours but I think spoils pearl polish and prefer to leave that on its own. I confess that I also use this as a base coat, to prevent coloured polishes from staining my nails. It also looks quite good used on its own and gives the nails a lovely shine, I used to wear this for work to give my nails a bit of protection from the hundreds of files we used to have pull each day for the doctors, and laterally from the computer keys when we went paperless and ended up using computers all day to access information! When applying just a layer of top coat it is dry well before finishing the second hand and doesn't seem to smear so easily. Does it last? Well on it's own it lasts a few days and more if I wear rubber gloves when washing the saucepans. I do find when applied over nail polish that gloves must be worn when doing household tasks, especially things like cleaning the bath with strong products and you must give it time to set. My friend was horrified when I thought I could apply nail polish and go down to dinner at the hotel we were staying at within a few minutes, she allows an hour before touching anything! Now retired I'm still in a rush most days, and that's why I like the top coat it gives my nails a boast especially if I've run out of time and going out! Another good product and it lasts for ages. There are often offers on at Boots, so you may get a bargain, like at the moment spend £18 and get a lot of free goodies worth £31! PS. A little touch on a ladder saves the day too and stops the ladder running too far and if a button looks as if it's going to fall off a touch of nail polish will hold the threads together and keep it safe until you can stitch it back on.
I bought this clear top coat as part of a Boot french manicure set which they bring out each Christmas. Overall it seems to do the job. But could be more long lasting as I did find that my nails started to chip after a couple of days. The name 'Stay Perfect' isn't exactly accurate. i guess though a coat of any clear nail varnish may help whats underneath stay a little longer. The brush gives quite good application of the varnish across the nail. I guess for the price this is OK, but like with many things it may pay to pay a little extra in the long run and buy something with a bit more staying power, that will make the work of doing a manicure (or french manicure) stay in place. After all these things all take time. I am yet however to find a nail varnish that does stay for longer than a few days.
Its difficult to decide how many stars to give this product, it doesn't work very well as what it is meant to be but makes a lovely clear nail varnish! It is in a clear bottle with a black twist top, there is the usual No7 branding in gold on the top. The bottle itself has gold writing too saying 'Stay Perfect, Top Coat' .On the back of the bottle it just says 'Flammable, Boots Nottingham England, www.boots.com, 10ml' all in gold. There are no instructions on how to use the product but I guess it's pretty self-explanatory anyway. On the Boots website it just says "No7 Stay Perfect Nail Top Coat is the perfect top coat for No7 nail colours" so there isn't a lot of information surrounding this little product anywhere. This top coat is £6.25 and I bought it with a £5 No7 voucher so got it for the bargain price of £1.25. The product can be found online or in-store on the No7 stand next to the Stay Perfect nail varnishes. They also do a Stay Perfect base coat to apply before you add colour. ~~Applying the product: I applied 2 coats of my favourite pink nail varnish to my fingernails and left this to dry completely. I then painted on a thin layer of this top coat; the product is quite thin in consistency and therefore could run if you painted too much on so be careful with the amount you use. It goes on smoothly and doesn't bubble. This top coat dries really quickly and leaves a high gloss finish on your nail colour. The product smells the same as other nail varnishes so not pleasant and quite strong so don't breathe it in! ~~Does it work? I am pretty rubbish with nail varnish anyway and it usually chips within a day with me, I don't think I'm very careful with my hands so bear this in mind! With this top coat I did expect my nail colour to 'stay perfect' but it mustn't be strong enough for me as the day after I had applied it the tips of my nails were starting to chip. So yes it lasted slightly longer than nail varnish lasts me on when used on its own but a day isn't long enough! I am glad I only paid £1.25 for this as I would have been very disappointed had I shelled out £6.25 for a product that doesn't work. I now use this as a clear nail varnish and it does seem to last a few days without chipping when used on its own which is strange. You could buy a normal clear nail varnish for a lot less money than this though so not worth it really. So I decided on 3 stars for this product, it's a rubbish top coat but at least all is not lost as I can use it as clear varnish by itself.
'Boots No7 Stay Perfect Nail Top Coat ' is a great product. In the past I haven't been that impressed by Boots No7 range but I needed a clear polish and this one was an OK price. I don't use this as a top coat; instead I just like to wear clear polish on my nails and to use a nail white pencil underneath. I don't like coloured polishes but I think using clear makes my nails look better. This is a great nail varnish and I was really quite impressed. It wasn't the cheapest product around though and I think it was good enough for the money paid. If I had paid anymore though I would have felt ripped off. The nail polish is easy to apply and the applicator bristles are good quality, unlike some which fall out or leave brush strokes on your nails. The nail polish is a good consistency and I was impressed by how quickly it dried. It has been on my nails a week and not chipped so I'm very pleased. I will definitely stick to using this product now and I would recommend it to anyone wanting clear polish. I haven't tried using it as a top coat over coloured polish though so I can't comment on this. However I imagine it works well.
I have owned No.7's Top Coat for some time, but don't use it very often. I did however, use it last week and thought it would be a good time to write about it, while it is still fresh in my mind. ~About the product~ This is a Top Coat, basically a tough, clear varnish which is designed to be worn over the top of your nail polish, to give it a bit of extra protection from chips, while adding a glossy sheen. ~The Bottle~ As you can see from the picture, the product comes in a tall, clear glass bottle, which is in the same design as the other nail polishes from the No.7 range. When you unscrew the lid, you will see the neck of the bottle is long, which is good as it prevents any drips. ~Using it~ When it comes to my nails I'm not very good at doing the whole ' base coat, polish, top coat ' routine. I always paint my toenails, but I don't paint my fingernails as often. A few days ago, I was sorting through my nail varnishes, when I came across a nice colour I had forgotten I owned. One coat was enough to get a nice result, but as it was a fairly cheap brand of polish I decided to add a layer of top coat to seal it in, and hopefully make the polish last longer. When I first applied this to my nails, I found that it seemed quite gloopy and sticky, which made applying it slightly more difficult, as it didn't glide over my nails as smoothly as I had hoped. It seemed to take quite a while to dry, and because of this, I must have touched something before it was completely dry, and a couple of my nails ended up smudging, ruining the polish underneath as well as the top coat. I ended up removing my polish completely and re-applying without bothering to add the top coat. A few days later, I painted my nails again, and decided to have another try with the Top Coat. This time I made sure that after applying it, I didn't touch anything for fear of smudging it again. ~Results~ Luckily, second time around, I managed not to smudge any of my nails. I found that this did appear to prolong the length my nail varnish lasted, and I managed to go several days with no chips, and it was only because I became bored with the colour, that I eventually removed the polish. It also left my nails with a nice glossy sheen, which wasn't too over the top, and somehow managed to look quite natural. ~Price~ A 10ml bottle of this costs £6.25 from Boots. It may be a bit pricey, but Boots often have offers on where if you spend £10 in store you can get a voucher for £5 off the No.7 range, so they may be worth looking out for. ~Conclusion~ I really like this product, and I will consciously try to use it more often after painting my nails. It gives a lovely finish as well as prolonging the length I can wear varnish without any chips. The only problem really have with it, is that it takes quite some time to dry and can be a bit gloopy when you apply it. Other than that, I'm really pleased with it.
