“ Brand: Boots / Type: Powder „
I regularly wear face powder to set my foundation and to minimise shine, but after approximately six weeks of use I find that the accompanying puff applicator begins to appear a little tatty as well as displaying a build up of product, which of course, is unhygienic. As the applicators are unsuitable for washing, it is necessary for me to regularly replace them although I would previously find it a struggle to find anything suitable, particularly as the majority of those I found were produced from a foam style of fabric.
I found that these didn't last very long in addition to the foam making applicator a little difficult, which resulted in my powder occasionally delivering a caked appearance to my foundation. However, during a visit to a large branch of Boots some time ago, I was delighted to discover their Velour Powder Puffs, which are sold in packs of two and this review discusses my experience with using them.
The pure white velour powder puffs are of a good size with a measurement of almost 6 cm in diameter, so they are able to comfortably fit inside the majority of face powder compacts. The appearance of the puffs is far superior to those found in the face powders I have previously purchased with their 7 mm thickness giving the impression of high quality. In addition to the puffs being velour, they are manufactured from cotton, so are wonderfully soft to the touch.
The puffs are suitable for both pressed and loose powder although I can only speak of my experience with using the pressed variety. The upper section of the puff offers the appearance of satin with the fabric being slightly rigid, which enables a firm grip during application. A light dusting of powder is effortlessly lifted from my compact and is smoothly transferred to the surface of the skin with the tiny fibres contained within the velour easily gripping the powder and subsequently preventing my clothes from being dusted in the process. Due to the soft and smooth texture of the fabric the puff is comfortable when brushed along my skin and is easily manoeuvred to reach into difficult areas, such as the lower corners of my nose.
I find that foam powder puffs can quickly become caked with make up rendering them difficult to use. However, these velour puffs are of a higher quality, as following each use I am able to gently brush my hand along the surface to dust away some of the particles of powder.
I find that one of the velour puffs lasts me approximately eight weeks with daily use, which slightly exceeds the lifetime of those that generally accompany my powder compacts. Unfortunately, the velour puffs cannot be washed and they are not suitable for use with liquid foundations. A point I find rather confusing is that the plastic pouch, which protects the remaining puff, displays the recycling logo, but situated directly adjacent to it we are informed that the pouch is not currently suitably for recycling. Consequently, I am unsure what can be recycled, as I cannot imagine that a dirty puff would be suitable.
I cannot recommend Boots Velour Powder Puffs highly enough, as they're the best I've ever used and for that reason, they receive five stars. The puffs are priced at £1.99, which represents excellent value for money, particularly as the pack of two lasts me approximately four months.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
