Boots No7 Stay Perfect Nail Varnish
by Bunnyhop2
I was first given a No7 nail varnish as a give many years ago, I was really impressed with it and No7 became one of my favourite nail varnish brands. I no longer have the large collection of colours that I had before having my girls but I still like to treat myself to them now and then.
Packaging
I like the shape of these ... bottles as it's very slimline, this allows me to fit more into my drawer than those with larger bases. The glass bottle warns you that the product is flammable and a barcode label on the bottle tells you the name of the colour. I'm not that keen on this barcode label as it spoils the look of the bottle, a coloured label on the top of the brush would be an improvement.
Colours
Even in my reduced collection I still have this nail varnish in a nice variety of colours my favourite being Temptress which is a dark chocolate colour. I like to wear dark colours on my toes and this is ideal. Boots regularly update the colours in the range and there are currently 41 to choose from so you can always keep up to date with the season's latest trends.
The colours in this range that I have tried are all strong colours and they have a lovely glossy finish to them.
Applying the colour
As with most nail varnishes there are ball bearings inside to allow you to mix it upon shaking, you can hear them rattling inside and if the varnish has started to separate this soon mixes it back together.
This nail varnish comes with a decent sized brush which is easy to unscrew from the bottle. It is easy to hold and when you lift the brush out of the bottle plenty of polish is loaded onto the brush. Before applying I wipe any excess back into the bottle to ensure that not too much is painted onto my nails.
The nail varnish goes on smoothly and the brush allows you to have good coverage with a few strokes, I usually do one down the middle of my nail and then fill in either side.
This polish is quick drying and by the time I have painted all my nails they are dry enough to start again with the second coat. I always apply 2 coats to ensure that I get an even coverage and then finish with a top coat. Once I have finished my 3 coats I try to give my nails a good hour or so to really dry properly and avoid any smudges occurring which they do if I do anything too soon.
How well does it wear?
When I used to wear this nail polish before having children it would easily last several days before I had to remove it. However it doesn't like all the washing up that I do when at home with the girls and within a day or so it needs removing due to chipping at the tips of my nails.
On my toes this nail varnish lasts really well and can easily last a week and still look great.
Removing it
I just use an own brand nail polish remover and it comes off pretty easily, dark colours don't stain my nails either which is good.
Price and availability
These nail varnishes cost £6 for a 10ml bottle which is quite expensive compared to other brands. You can currently buy one get one half price on No7 cosmetics and Boots are also running their £3 off No7 make up promotion where you get a voucher with your receipt. They are a Boots product and as such are available in their stores and at Boots.com.
Would I recommend?
Yes, these nail varnishes are really good quality and easy to apply. They come in a large range of colours so there is one to suit all tastes. Read the complete review |

Boots 17 Wild Metallic Eye Cream
by Samantha82
I originally bought this eye colour because Boots sent me a voucher offering it for £1 and as I never turn down the chance to try out a new makeup product for cheap I thought I would give it a go, especially as though I tend to stick to a few old favourites when it comes to makeup so figured for that price I may be able to find a new ... favourite. I decided to buy the bronze colour which I hoped would complement my blue eyes
***The packaging***
The eyeshadow comes in a plastic tub which is quite robust (I have dropped it a couple of times and it's fine) with a black lid with gold lettering and a pattern that I assume is supposed to be like leopard print but I must confess made it look a bit cheap to me.
However, you do get a lot in the tub for your money as there is clearly a lot more in it then a standard eyeshadow pot (unfortunately I cannot find how many grams it has anywhere but it is a good sized tub).
***The product***
What you get inside is a cream based, almost gel like, eyeshadow that is quite shimmery. There is no applicator and as it's creamy I used use my fingers to apply it. The colour in the tub is a nice bronzey colour which is slightly more on the brown side of the bronze spectrum than the orange side which I prefer as with cool skin too orangey tones don't suit me as well.
***Applying the shadow***
As I said above there is no applicator with the tub so I just use my fingers to apply it, you could use a brush or applicator but it would get quite gunky with the cream so it would have to be dedicated to this product alone. However, I actually found it quite hard to apply as it was very slippery and went all over my eyes so I had to do a lot of tidying up after I applied it - I have used cream eyeshadows before and prefer them to powder in some ways but this one was just a bit too slippery. Although, the times I have used it I have been in a rush which may explain why I had so much trouble. However, once it is on it does feel nice on the eye as the gel texture is very smooth.
In terms of colour I was very underwhelmed as there doesn't seem to be much intenstity at all. The first time I used I had to apply about three coats and another eyeshadow and even then it was barely noticeable (I have very pale skin so usually have the opposite problem). The second time I just gave up and used my usual eyeshadow. I also find that after wearing it for a couple of hours I have shimmery/glittery patches under my eyes from the cream. It also has no staying power as by the time I had got to work (half an hour after applying the cream) it had gone. I am sure it would be better if you build the colour and for a light shimmer works ok but not fantastically and there are better cream eyeshadows out there.
***Price***
I was lucky that I only paid £1 for this as I am not sure I would have been happy if I had paid full price, £3.99 from Boots, for it. Overall it's all a bit underwhelming. Read the complete review |

Boots No7 Exceptional Definition Mascara
by thriftygiftyisme
=Exceptional Definition Mascara=
Boots have 3 levels of own brand make up ranges, No 7, which is the most expensive of the brands, no 17 which is middle priced brand, and naturals collection, where most items are £1.99.
=This Mascara=
This mascara is from the Boots N0 7 range, and is the Exceptional Definition ... Mascara, for a tube of 7ml the normal price is £11 although there offers on at various times such as 3 4 2.
=Buying=
This can be brought online or in store.
=Formula=
This mascara claims that the lashes will be left with exceptional definition and volume, and the mascara also has a formula which contains vitamins and nutrients cashmere kerati and hydrolyzed soy protein, These ingredients are claimed that combined to help to condition the lashes.
=Colours=
This mascara is available in 2 colours black and black/brown, the mascara is also hypo-allergenic.
=Shelf Life=
This has a 6 month shelf life from when you open the mascara.
=My Experience=
I have long lashes, so I like to show them off with mascara, and this is an excellent mascara, the wand is of a good length, and secure to hold from the handle. The brush has a 3 in 1 design, the left is designed to load the lashes with mascara to volumise them, the right is to comb the lashes and provide the definition, whilst last but not least, the top of the brush has the smallest bristles which reach any lashes that are not as long as the others.
=One Dip=
Although that seems a lot to come from a mascara all that comes from just one dip of mascara, and when I have done one eye, I can really see the difference immediately, my lashes look thicker, volumisied and longer.
=Deeper Depth=
You can add a 2nd coat of mascara if you want even more definition, but personally one coat is enough for me.
=Removing the Mascara=
I find that the mascara is easy to wipe with wipes.
=My Thoughts=
I have received compliments when wearing this mascara, one person on holiday asked me what brand of false lashed was I wearing as they looked so natural, they would there mine.
I have really been impressed with this mascara, I use it about twice a week, and it is lasting week, and I would certainly have no problem purchasing this mascara at full price.
A full 10/10 from me. Read the complete review |
