Boots No7 Colour Calming Make-Up Base
by misslopi
I am generally a fan of No7 and their make-up and skincare ranges but there are a few things which I have tried in the ranges which haven't been up to the high standards of the other things.
I bought the colour calming primer because when I am on a night out sometimes it can get unbearably hot and when the heat is combined ... with alcohol my cheeks can become flushed and red.
The lady at the N07 counter recommended this to me as she said that underneath my make-up this would calm the redness and help to disguise it.
The primer is a green cream which you just dab onto your skin where you have high colour and then blend it in. The green tint of the cream will neutralise any red in the skin.
The cream is thick and I thought that it was difficult to blend into my cheeks. When I did finally blend it in I noticed that it did change the colour of my cheeks but not for the better as it made them look rather ashen and grey looking. It was quite a weird look and didn't look natural at all.
When my foundation was on top of the primer it did look loads better and the ashen grey palour to my cheeks was disguised and when I had some blusher on top it was unnoticeable. To begin with this was pretty good and I think it did help with the redness but as the night wore on the redness started to come through and by the end the flushed look was just the same as it always was.
I think this works for a couple of hours and although it looks horrible on its own when make-up is applied over the top of it then it works much better. I still use this when I am going out as it does help a little bit but I probably wouldn't buy it again as I don't think it was really worth the money and I have used another one which a friend gave me by Clinique and it was much better and longer lasting than this one.
It does help a little bit with the high colour and the flushing but not enough. I bought this over a year ago and although I use it regularly when going anywhere I still have loads left as I only need a little bit at a time so the bottle lasts for ages. This costs £10.50 from Boots. Read the complete review |

Boots No 7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes Pencil
by basketofbuttons
The only reason I decided to buy my Boots No 7 Stay Perfect Amazing Eyes pencil was because I had a £5 money off voucher for No 7 as I'd been spending a bit of money in Boots the week before. I often have problems in deciding what to spend my £5 money off vouchers on and I usually opt for some of the Boots No 7 facial wipes, but this ... time I decided on an eye pencil as my old one was so tiny as I'd had it for ages and it was sharpened down to within an inch of its life. This eye pencil normally retails at £6.50 but with my voucher, I got it for only £1.50, so I thought that was a bit of a bargain, really.
These pencils come in a choice of lots of colours, including grey, blue, purple, black, brown and green. I opted for the grey one as I find that black is just too harsh with my pale colouring and fair hair. I liked the fact that this pencil has a protective nib on both ends - one to protect the actual pencil nib and the other to protect the little black smudger thing on the opposite end. This was the first time I had seen an eye pencil with a smudger attached, as I normally use a separate smudging stick whenever I have used an eye pencil in the past.
The grey on this pencil seemed to be quite dark, almost verging on black. However, when I tried to apply it to my eyes for the first time I noticed straight away that it actually really lacked any true depth of colour. By this, I mean that it looked a lot lighter grey than it did on the actual pencil and the pencil itself is certainly not a good reflection of the true colour that is applied to the eyes. It was slightly disappointing in this respect as I found that I needed to keep on going backwards and forwards over my lid before I could build up the colour to the shade I expected it to be in the first place.
The smudger worked well, however, and I managed to be able to blend the colour effectively as it has a small pointed end which means that when I use it I can get right into the lash line area and the colour is soft enough o smudge and blend and create a softer effect, rather than a harsh line, which think looks terrible.
The pencil is not waterproof and it comes off fairly easily with either facial wipes or ordinary eye make up remover. I don't feel that I need to touch this eyeliner up throughout the day and it does seem to have good lasting powers but it's just the lack luster wishy washy grey colour that lets it down, really.
Overall, I'm not sure I'd be happy to pay full price for this pencil though possibly it's just the shade I chose and the black one might have been a better option, in hindsight. I give it three stars out of a possible five. Read the complete review |

No7 Stay Perfect Shadow Palette

No7 Stay Perfect Shadow Palette
Boots have three ranges in their own brand make up, the no 7, which is the top brand, no 17, which is mid branded price range, and last but not least the Naturals collection.
=My No 7 Palette=
This sounds so posh for a set of 3 eye shadows, the set I mainly use is no5 colourway ... "fired earth", which is shades of brown, although I like the lilac ones and the blues which are ok. There are a wide range of colour ways available.
=Packaging=
The eye shadow is in minimal packaging, the case is a black plastic, which clicks shut, the lid has an half clear plastic so you can see the shades of the eye shadow, and the logo of No 7, on the underside of the case is an information label about the eye shadows.
=The Eye shadows=
When you open the eye shadow you see the three eye shadows they are almost crested shaped, they have good seperation from the next colour, and there is a double ended applicator included.
=Long Lasting=
I find this eye shadow is long lasting, and it doesn't crease up or fade on my eyelids. I find the colours blend easily, and the range of colours you can get a good mix.
=Easy to remove=
I find these eye shadows are easy to use, I generally try to use wipes for when I am travelling or at home, I will use a eye make up remover, and both remove the eye shadow equally perfectly.
=Price=
This eye shadow trio is priced at £9.00, although it is always worth keeping an eye out for till vouchers, as these offer £3 off no 7 make up.
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend this eye shadow, and it is one of my favourites, although I feel at £9 it is slightly over priced. Read the complete review |
