Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: Is £7.95 expensive? Ah well it last ages!
I only ever use Max Factor pressed powder as it's the only one I've found to match my skin tone. However I looked in the mirror the other day and I don't know what's happened but I was shocked to see I had a big orange face! Either I've been too heavy handed lately in applying it or I never had the right colour in the first place and no one bothered to tell me! I was so gutted and it left me with a problem!
However I had a voucher from Boot's that would give me £2.00 off certain cosmetic ranges and Bourjois was one of them ranges so I set to work on the almost impossible task of selecting a pressed powder.
Now price isn't an issue really. I mean I'm not made of money but I do really genuinely need this product as I suffer with an Oily T Zone, I have some slight marks on my face and engorged pores, black heads and white heads. I wouldn't dream of putting on make up on and no pressed or loose powder to 'set' my look.
I'm not keen on loose powder I've just never completely got the hang of applying it and not getting it over my clothes and what's more who wants to go out drinking accompanied by a pot of dust in the ladies loos after drinking one too many shandies eh! Nope I prefer a compact and when I look for one I need one that is secure and robust cos I have a nasty habit of dropping things that cost me a fortune!
The Compact....
Recyclable, black plastic and round weighing 9.5g (powder only) and the compact has a 'lip' that you gently pull up and push down gently to close. This is very secure indeed. On the front of the compact, around the edge is pink flowers and then in the centre I'm told it is Bourjois, Paris. At the bottom is a safety seal that shows the colour and states the number it is and the colour in my case it's 72, Sable Rose. When you take this label off it doesn't mess up your compact which is a nice little bonus! On the back (bottom) of the compact in pink writing I'm told stuff in what I assume is French and then I'm told bit about the product, again number and colour is stated, I'm told that is is dermatologically tested, the ingredients, the weight (as I've stated already) I'm told again it is Bourjois, Paris and finally that it is made in Italy. Hmmm I'm a bit gutted thought this was French chick after all! lol
Opening the compact, in the lid is a mirror as large as the whole lid and it's a proper mirror! Also sponge pad to apply the product with. I really love this compact and I've always bought fairly cheap pressed powders in the past that contain no mirror and sometimes not even an applicator! Never again this mirror is so valuable! I can see why I paid £7.95 for it! (Ok I got discount lol) It just looks so nice and is also robust and doesn't scratch in your handbag and become unsightly!
About The Product....
Matifying compact powder for a sheer even result, with integrated puff and mirror. Soft and blendable texture.
Using It....
So to use it do your make up and gently dab or wipe this over the face. I find the best way to apply it is with a large blusher brush but I do like the applicator given in the compact also. It's a lightweight round, white sponge, smooth in texture and like a brush it doesn't pick up heaps of powder at all.
The powder itself when touched with my fingertips for the purpose of this review is incredibly soft and silk like. Even when wiped off my finger I can feel the smoothness still on my skin. It's not powdery or loose and it goes on to an applicator of your choice evenly and sort of like a fine dust without being flaky.
I can apply this in one go. I don't need to keep adding loads a little goes a very long way. You just wipe it over face until it vanishes and if you have the right colour this is so easy to do!
It makes skin feel very soft and really does tackle any shine that you have. It doesn't stop skin getting greasy but with the mirror and the applicator given its easy to touch up if need be. I don't find my skin is as greasy using and there's no problem with me 'topping up' as it doesn't go cloggy and my danger area for this is on the nose. Also if you want to top up make up over this that's fine too and I do find that if I put this on before my eye-shadows I'm not getting to much fading of said eye make up. It doesn't transfer off via hands and really does 'set' make up with making your face feel heavy and cake like. Its a heavy duty bad boy without appearing that way!
It comes off easily with your usual make up removal routine with ease and what's more (if you haven't heard enough already!) is that because it's only lightly fragranced (just smells of make up really and is entirely pleasant) and the fact that it is so light and sheer it doesn't clog pores. In fact since using this I've had no major break outs since I've been using it and the skin on my face does feel alot cleaner in general.
If you do have bad skin although this is gentle and kind it does really help cover up light marks on the skin. I have some light acne scarring and a slight brown patch on my forehead that I'm paranoid of and because of the lovely feeling of this product I didn't think it would be much good at disguising my problems it really is good at that! Whats more is this product will stay put on these problem areas (by the way it only struggles with grease like most products of this types does).
Overall....
A really brilliant product on all fronts. I love the packaging, how it feels on my skin and the fact that it doesn't upset my dry skin areas and although doesn't completely put up a fight against grease it really doesn't mind mopping it up for you without clogging up and helping to block yet more pores in the process! Will I buy again? Deffo, yes! I love whipping mine out in full view and applying more of this stuff whenever I like and putting on me lippie. It looks so nice and sophisticated but more than that it just happens to work!
I'm very impressed indeed!
About £7.95 a compact and can be found in a variety of shades in places like Boot's, Superdrug, Sainsbury's and really all over the place!
Summary: A beauiful pressed powder that looks oh so delicate but is real heavy duty!

- 29/05/08 I might have to give this one a go. I always use Boots 17 range and I said in a review that I wouldn't try anything else, but reading your review, I just might. |
