      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Poor quality, disappointing gloss from Bourjois.

      Item: Bourjois Effect 3D Max
      Colour: 63 Rose Eclat
      Price: £6.99
      Size:6.5ml
      Bought from: Boots

      Why is this in my make up bag?
      Good question haha mainly because I love a bargain and new lip gloss'. I bought it as part of a 3 for 2 deal with Bourjois in Boots when I was buying blushers.

      Packaging and design:
      So this lip gloss comes in an unusual tube. I "think" it is meant to be representative of a shapely woman's hour glass figure. If its not, then I've no idea why it is this shape, The top and lid is black and as you go down the tube it is clear and you can see the exact colour of the gloss. The full tube is 12cm long and 2cm at its widest part. The front of the tube tells you it is Bourjois Effect 3D Max Lip Gloss and states Maximised 3D Shine. The lid secures on so wont actually come off on its own but the top of the tube gets really gloopy so any excess gloss you try to wipe off the wand seems to get wound in to the thread of the lid and oozes out the gap between the lid and the tube. So it is continually sticky. The wand is horrible, the length is 10cm long when out of the tube and the bit at the end where a brush would usually be is 1cm long. in place of a brush there is a spatula style flat piece of plastic. This neither feels nice to put on your lips nor does it help you put the gloss on. Imagine trying to trowel your lip gloss on with the back of a sticky spoon, not ideal. And due to the strange shape of it, it seems to pick up a lot of excess gloss. So this is why you need to keep wiping it off and back in to the tube. The bottom of the tube is very narrow and doesn't really stand up on its own so once it gets sticky it is not good to keep this in your make up bag as it gets all over everything else in there but doesn't stand up on it's own either. 2 points off for mess.

      Colour, consistency, smell and lasting effect:
      The colour IS nice but I've no idea why it claims to be 3D, it is more of a glitter gloss I would say. The gloss itself is really thin and very gunky. It seems to rest on your lips in lumps and slides off towards the edges. Basically it is far to thick and wet to be a good gloss. The one I chose is Rose Éclat which is a deep salmon pink colour, but that only lasts a few seconds, basically as soon as you move you lips to talk it starts to come off. You would literally have to be re-applying this constantly (and washing your hands after each time too) so that is really annoying. It smells really fragrant too. A combination of parma violet sweets and that older lady Yardley Soap, grans used to have back in the 80s. I guess if you liked those scents that would be great, but I just find it off putting as the smell is really really strong and lasts on your skin/lips even after you cant see the colour. 2 points off for lack of staying power and smell.

      Overall really disappointing, doesn't stay on, smells weird and was a waste of a 3 for 2 choice.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        A shimmering lip gloss

        When I go out on an evening with friends or with my partner for a drink or meal I do wear different make up than day time wear. I tend to go for slightly darker shades without going over the top such as deeper brown or grey eyeshadows rather than the paler more neutral tones and the same goes for my lip gloss the day time gentle shades are replaced with deeper hues for a more sultry look.

        Recently in Boots I was browsing their make up ranges as normal and decided to treat myself to a few new items believing that I needed them! One was the Bourjois Effect 3D Max in shade 64 Framboise Ardent. I find Bourjois lip glosses a bit hit or miss but as this was at the time reduced I thought it was worth giving it a go.

        == The Lip Gloss ==

        Bourjois Effect 3D Max is another lip gloss in Bourjois' vast range. It is basically a lip gloss which is full of shimmer as well as being classed as a volumiser to give the lips a fuller look with a glamorous sheen to finish off. The shimmering formula also has softening properties to help keep those lips looking nice and smooth.

        == The Shade ==

        The shade I bought was No. 84 Framboise Ardent so expect a bright pink colour thanks the raspberries! The shade is quite a bright pink, almost quite red but it is definitely quite a vibrant shade one I would normally steer away from but it is actually quite a cheery colour and thought it would be perfect for this time of the year.

        == In Use ==

        The lip gloss comes in a tall, slim but shaped tube which is black and pink in colour. Bourjois' packaging always seems quite chic without being over the top and this lip gloss is no exception. The Bourjois logo is on the tube together with the product name. The top screws on with the attached applicator.

        The applicator is plastic which I really do not like, it is slightly oval in shape and very thin so it is quite flexible but for some reason I much prefer softer brushes or foam type applicators. The lip gloss itself instantly shimmers as soon as you take the applicator out complete with a lovely velvet looking gloss which has quite a luxurious look to it.

        The gloss glides on easily even with the plastic applicator which I do find odd to use even now. However, the applicator does give enough lip gloss to give a thin covering to your lips. I found with this gloss that despite its initial vibrant colour when first applied it is much more subtle which does for me make it quite versatile. Therefore, if you want an intense colour you will need to apply more coats of the gloss.

        The end result is a lovely soft shimmer which isn't over the top and it provides a lovely non-sticky smooth finish on your lips together with a slightly sweet, almost berry like flavour to it which although is not essential for a lip gloss it is quite nice! I have found that this lip gloss does last a little longer than other Bourjois lip glosses I've used but not by much so it does need frequent re-application especially if your drinking or eating.

        == Overall ==

        A lovely lip gloss which has a nice fruity flavour! I find it versatile as I can choose how vibrant I want the shade to be so ideal during the day or out on the evening. My only problem is that it doesn't last that long which when you are paying just under £8.00 that is slightly disappointing. Therefore, I can only give it 4 stars.

        Bourjois 3D lips gloss

        Dipping down into the last few items within my make up collection and shockingly this is neither a Benefit nor a Boots No7 Product! This was one of my Christmas gifts from mom as she always does me a smelly set collection and a make up set collection.

        Bourjois Effect 3D Max Lip Gloss:
        'Dazzling shine thanks to the smoothing formula with shine micro-activators'

        The Colours:

        There are six shades within this range - Rose Acidule, Rose Gold, Rose Eclat, Framboise Ardent and Brun Etincelant. All of which are different tones of pink. (I have read there will be more shades soon in brownish tones)

        Their Claim:

        'Bourjois Effect 3D Max Lip Gloss has a smoothing formula enriched with shine micro-activators and an innovative volumising applicator with reservoirs for maximum shine from the first application. Each shade contains a touch of dewy pink for a fresh look and a touch of shimmer for an enhanced, shiny result' - Bourjois.co.uk

        My Findings:

        The first time I used this I wasn't expecting the applicator to look the way it did, normally you get a soft sponge like brush but this was pointed and a little harder. Still I didn't find a problem when actually using it on my lips. But one thing I noticed as it has a point edge when running the applicator over my lips I just had to be a little more careful, as I found it easy to go over my lip line.

        The shade I have is 'Rose Gold' and it is a lovely shade of soft pink with flickers of glitter so for me personally it is more of a night time gloss, unless you want a little bling during the day. Although you put the gloss on the same each time, sometimes it appears to have more golden flicks, then other times less. I guess it is what the applicator pulls out when removing the applicator to apply.

        I do think it feels a little sticky but it is a gloss and normally that is how they feel on your lips anyway, but after it has been sitting on your lips awhile I find it starts to have a tacky feel more so than a light sticky feel (I think gloss wearers will know what I mean). You can not feel the little flicks of glitter in the gloss as at first I was thinking it was going to leave a grainy feel but it sits smooth on my lips.

        Longevity I think is pretty poor for the price and within less than an hour I find I need to top it up, however it has a candy like smell and taste which doesn't help. Even after the gloss has wore off my lips still do have a smooth feel to them which is nice.

        I noticed however this makes for a good top coat, when I use a lipstick adding this on top normally the lipstick stays on my lips a little longer. It also adds a nice to shine on top of my chosen lipstick, on its own I do love the pinkish shimmery shine, and it does make my lips look fuller but only temporarily.

        When it comes to removing this product I wouldn't worry as will have more than likely wore off anyway.

        Price and Availability:

        The cheapest I have found this product for is at Boots for £6.99 and right now Bourjois items are three for two. So not bad if you're a fan of this brand.

        You can also pick this up at most make up retailers, as always I find it handy to browse the internet for cheaper places to buy.

        Overall:

        For the price I would have hoped for better results also in a brand name like Bourjois. It did sit nice on my lips and looked great when I first applied but that all soon fades. If you don't mind reapplying often then you may like this gloss.

        Personally I don't recommend this lip gloss as there are far better cheaper options available on the market today. At the moment I'm a huge fan of the Nivea lip gloss (review coming soon)

        Two out of five stars from me.

        Thanks for reading :o)
