“ Brand: Bourjois / Type: Lipgloss „
As a smoker Im always worrying that my breath isnt as fresh as I would like it to be. Sure I brush my teeth before I leave the house but then smoking a cigarette on the way to work sort of cancels that out and I think everyone will agree they dont want to talk to a sales assistant with stale fag breath! Now something simple like chewing gum or a mint is normally my answer but when Im working those things arent permitted so I needed to search elsewhere for something to keep my bretah smelling tip top all day. I dont know why I didnt think of it before - a lipgloss that makes your breath fresher! What a genius idea - and that exactly what I thought when I found this 'Bourjois Gloss Menthol' on amazon a few months back, it seemed like exactly what I was looking for and it was cheap enough so I decided to give it a try. Now I think maybe my expectations were a little high when it came to using this - dont get me wrong it does the job ... just not as well as I might have hoped!
Price: I think this was around £4 - but price varies on this gloss it seems so shop around for a good deal!
Stockists: I can only find this on ASOS & Amazon - I believe this gloss may have been discontinued by Bourjois so its unlikely you'll be able to find it in stores.
Other Info: This gloss promises to give you minty fresh breath on the go while also making your lips looks plumped and shiny. The shade of this gel I would say is transparent but apparantly it has traces of blue which is said to make your teeth appear whiter - so its an everyday gloss with two big added bonuses. Basically it promises to give you a gorgeous looking and smelling mouth!
The packaging for this gloss is pretty much what you'd expect and very similar to other Bourjois glosses Ive bought in the past. This gloss comes in a transparent plastic tube which is green/blue in colour but is still clear enough for you to see exactly how much gloss you have left to use and you can also see the applicator and brush contained on the inside. As with most glosses there is a twist off lid at the top attatched to that is the long applicator wand with a small brush at the bottom - a very standard design but its effective and its colourful enough to catch your eye - it did with me anyway. On the tube is a small amount of information on the product - claims, shelf life (12M if your interested) & a small ingredients list - that should be everything you need to know BUT should you have more questions there is more information on the Bourjois website. Effective and eye catching packaging - and is small enough to carry around and use on the go which is the main thing for me. Its not amazing but it definitely does the job.
The gloss is very easy to apply - the little brush makes it easier in my opinion as it fits the shape of my lips better than a standard applicator - and also because the gloss is clear you can apply it without needing a mirror, no-one will be able to tell if you mess it up a little bit and as most of the time Im applying this in a rush that a big must for me! As I said the gloss itself is totally see through (the blue pigments are not visible at all no matter how much you apply so dont worry there!) but the gloss is very thick I feel and thats my first issue with it. I cannot stand glosses that are too thick because I find that makes them also very sticky and I think everyone will agree thats really not a pleasant feeling to have on your lips. On the upside this does make my lips look very glossy and plumper as well so I could stand a little stickiness if everything else about it was amazing ... sadly thats not the case here. My lips do look glossier but thats really about it!
As I mentioned the whole point of this gloss is to make your teeth look whiter and your breath smell better, but Im not entirely convinced that it does either of those things. This gloss is scented with mint but I dont think that effects your breath at all - sure people can smell the scent on your lips when you first apply this but I dont think that scent makes your breath smell minty as well - you feel slightly fresher for about 10 seconds but there arent any long term effects on fag breath in my opinion. Now on making your teeth appear slightly whiter I think this does actually work. Dont get me wrong this wont make you look as if your teeth have been lasered or anything but I definitely think my smile looks better when I use this gloss - at least until it wears off I have the pearly white teeth I crave! When it comes to staying power this gloss is actually pretty good - Ive found this lasts around 4 hours on my lips and thats with eating, drinking, smoking so thats much better than average in my experience.
Im going to give this gloss 3*s overall because I have good and bad things to say about it. Its worth it for me because it makes my teeth look slightly whiter, makes my lips very glossy and it lasts more than a decent amount of time. But it could do with being less thick and I dont think it has any effect on my breath - which is the makin claim of the product really. If your expecting a miracle this wont be it but it has some good effects on me.
Thanks For Reading.

I first purchased this lip gloss a year or two ago and despite using others I always end up returning to this one.
Bourjois is a well known make up range which first bought me to this product in a figure that I could trust it and after seeing it repeatedly being advertised in magazines and T.V I figured I just had to have it!
It is a 'menthol' lip gloss and being so it does have a very strong minty smell to it, which is quite the opposite to most lip glosses as they normally have a sweet smell to them, whereas lip balms have a more minty smell to them.
With it being menthol it also does mean that it does tingle slightly to apply. It is very easy to apply, it comes in a tube with a screw top lid which reveals the brush. The brush itself is one with individual bristles and does not stay in one fixed shape. This means that it is easy to apply and is smooth to run across the lips.
Despite it in the tube looking slightly gooey and sticky it does not feel like this at all when it is on and when first applied it does tingle, like what you would expect from a lip plumping gloss, however this does seem to stop within a few minutes.
The smell of the mint in this is really nice and refreshing and is a nice difference from the normal sickly sweet strawberry smell of glosses.
Despite the gloss being blue in the tube, it is just clear once on and makes your lips look uber shiny and glossy, however if you do happen to apply too much then your lips do go a slightly tinted blue, though this is easy to sort out with a wet wipe, tissue, etc.
The lip gloss is priced around £5.99 which may seem expensive for 'high street' priced makeup / lip gloss, however I feel that this is really worth this and it does last a long time as well. For the quality of it I really don't mind spending this much!
Overall this is highly recommended for those of you who want to put some 'umph' back into those lips!
I bought my first one of these two or three years ago now and this is now one of my favourite glossed. It is a menthol gloss, which means that it also has a lovely minty smell to it which also makes your lips a bit tingly, a bit like a lip plumping gloss would.
What is it:
Bourjois menthol lip gloss, is pretty much like any other lip gloss, but I suppose its unique selling point is the whole fact that it is 'menthol', this means that even if you do not have the 'freshest of breaths' you still smell lovely and minty!
The price, I personally think is a bit pricey as it is only a lip gloss. It is retailed at £8.95. Near christmas you can often pick these up cheaper as there are lots of offers on.
Like most cosmetic products it is avaliable at Boots and Superdrugs and some other chain stores. I say this on all of my make up reviews, but I REALLY would always check Boots as they seem to always have offers on and I like to collect my Boots advantage card points :D
The colour of this is like a greeny/bluey clear colour in the tube, however once applied it is not like this, it is more of a clear colour, but if you do apply to much it can have a hint og blue to it!
The packaging is very attractive as with most bourjois products. It feels very nice to hold in the hand because of the shape of the bottle. The lid is also a very nice shape, it kind of goes in, in the middle and out again at the top.
My experience with the product had been great. From the minute of opening the product you can really smell the mentholy, mintyness of the product. When applying it isn't like others where they aren thick and gloopy. It does have quite a sticky consistenc, but once applied you don't tend to feel this.
From the moment I applied I could feelthe immediate familiar tingly sensation that you get with lip plumping gloss. It was lovely and smooth to apply, also the brush it one that is an actual brush, not like a heart shape one, so this makes it nice and easy to apply.
Once it is applied you are left with lovely high shine glossy lips! It lasts on lips for 2-3 hours so you do have to keep on applying throughout the day unfortunatley.
***This is also under the same username on CIAO ***
I haven't really used Bourjois products before as they're one of the ranges which have a higher price and I'm not willing to spend that amount on certain products, but after receiving this as a Christmas present I may consider dipping my toe into the Bourjois pool!
First of all I think this lip gloss has a very appealing look. Its in a tube which is curvy and goes in at the lid and out again. The tube is a transparent turquoise colour with the lid being a solid turquoise colour with a small shine to it. There is a silver ring which divides the lid and bottle from one another. It has the Bourjois logo on the bottle and tells you that it is a menthol lip gloss along with a list of ingredients.
Using the product
The lid twists easily as you pull out the wand. You can see there is a stopper around the opening of the bottle which prevents too much lip gloss coming out. This wand has a small brush on the end of it which I quite different from most as they have a sort of pad thing on the end (you ladies will know what I mean!) Straight away you can see that the lip gloss has a rather thick feel than other lip glosses I applied a small amount to my lips and found it felt like most lip glosses, though because of the thickness it seemed to stay on my lips rather than to dribble down. The lip gloss itself is clear, though for some reason I was thinking it was going to be a slightly turquoise colour like the bottle, but maybe that for just drawing people in to the product?
What does it smell like?
This has a lush spearmint smell to it which you can smell when on your lips travelling up to your nose! The smell isn't too strong and even when you lick your lips you can taste this! The best thing for me is the tingle that your lips get once applied! The menthol in this really takes effect and it makes me feel like my lips are cool and fresh. My lips also feel like they've slightly plumped up, and when I removed this lip gloss my lips still feel very refreshed and clean; much like when you have brushed your teeth and got toothpaste foam all over them and then wiping it away.
Well this product costs around £7, and you can even buy it in a mini tube has a phone charm to always carry it around with you! (about £3.50). It can be found in stores such as super drug and Boots. For me this product is a great lip gloss and does exactly what it says! Gives me a fresh feeling and ultra shiny lips! I wouldn't recommend on a windy day though as it does get sticky when your hair gets blown in it. All in all I would recommend this lip gloss to anyone who likes to wear lip gloss and likes minty things!
Every girl loves a lipgloss and I'm no exception. I mainly use them on a girly night out when I want to add a bit more oomph to my lip colour, and being clear, won't matter if I don't quite manage to re apply with total accuracy at the end of the night!!
The Bourjois Menthol Lip gloss is an ideal for a big night out. I was attracted to it because of the menthol properties and again because it is a transparent shiny gloss so I can use it on top of any shade of lipstick or lip stain. It comes in an attractive blue/green clear plastic tube with a sparkly lid and costs approx £6.80 for 7.5ml.
The gloss is enriched with fresh mint and has a real glossy high shine to it. You can smell the mint as soon as you open the tube and the applicator has a little brush on the end which I find much more appealing than the little bits of foam you get on some other brands.
When you apply it you immediately feel the cool refreshing 'zing' of the menthol tingling on your lips and you can smell the gorgeous minty freshness. The gloss is nice and thick but not sticky as such, more a tacky feel to it. It comes quite close to Lancome's Juicy Tubes in the look and feel but at a much lower price!
I really love this lipgloss, it can become quite addictive especially on hot days or if you take it with you on your summer hols, it feels cool and tingly and gives you super shiny lips as well!!
An ultra fresh breath sensation from a lipgloss!
The is one of my favourite lip glosses around. I much prefer clear lip gloss as I find it looks better on my lips than colours.
At first I was very sceptical of this product and thought surely your lips wont effect your breath but bought it any way. I was pleasently suprised and you can even taste mint with it. Very refreshing and it gives a bit of added confidence. Its really good for places like work where you cant eat chewing gum.
Its not badly priced at about £4-£5 in Boots I believe and it does last for ages. If clear lip gloss is not your thing if you use over lipstick it makes you lip stick and gloss and come off on the wand making it go a lightish pink shade which is also quite flattering.
The noly thing is if you have sore lips I would avoid as it makes them sting and worse!
I'm not often a lip gloss girl, my boyfriend doesn't particularly like the sticky sensation when he gives me a kiss, but sometimes I do like to have a clear lip gloss in my bag to hand for a bit of a confidence boost, this one appealed because of the mintiness, I've tried a few different mint or cinammon based ones and thought it would be worth trying this one as a bit of a treat.
The gloss comes in a curvy aqua coloured tube, its 7.5 ml and the writing is white. It is very simple, classy packaging and hopefully belies the simple classyness underneath!!
The mintyness is not scarily overpowering, its just a light menthol smell and when you paint it on your lips tingle slightly. The gloss is very thick and sticky which is not so great, but it spreads well and doesn't sit too heavy on my lips.
It does seem to have a slight blueish tint when you first put it on, but this is not hugely unpleasant. and it disappears quickly.
Currently selling on asos.com for £5.95 it may be slightly cheaper in boots or superdrug, it is certainly cheaper than some of the other lip glosses in the bourjois range.
You have to question what drove Bourjois to create this Gloss Menthol lip gloss. Does every girl really want her lips to smell like a packet of polo mints? Perhaps it is just me but I can categorically state that I do not. Nevertheless I wanted to experience "The fresh breath sensation" and as at the time it was part of a 3 for 2 on Bourjois offer at my local boots I thought I had nothing to lose by purchasing it.
Bourjois packaging is often sweet and flirty intending to make the consumer cry in true French fashion "Oh la la!". Regarding the packaging on this lip gloss it is rather cute. It is in the same style as Bourjois effect 3D and Bourjois Cocktail lip glosses with a curved transparent barrel so you can see the colour of the gloss inside. The gloss is a summery turquoise colour which when applied comes out clear. The thing I like about Bourjois glosses are the applicators which are soft, flexible and brush like. This has the advantage in ensuring that you don't apply to much gloss because the brush fans out and covers a larger area of lip meaning you waste less gloss!
This gloss is marketed on its ability to primarily smell great and secondarily look great so let us put these criteria to the test.
When applying the gloss a slight, pleasant peppermint aroma greets my nose. Once applied my lips begin to tingle its only slight and I do like the consistency and feel of it on my lips. It feels clean and clinical but in a lovely way! My lips feel like they have been commanded to pucker up! When I remove the gloss my lips feel invigorated and clean. It may sound rather bizarre but Bourjois were actually right - it does feel like the sensation you get when your teeth have been brushed really well!
As I have previously mentioned the gloss appears a turquoise colour in the tube yet comes out clear. Maybe its psychological but when it hits the light in a certain way my lips do appear a little blue. Also if I apply to much of this gloss my lips look rather frost bitten. This gloss is a little sticky and denser than other brand glosses yet I like this (although my hair doesn't when it's windy and gets stuck to my gloss). It does command a high intensity glass like shine and isn't that long lasting or hardy yet show me a gloss that isn't!
For me the smell is lovely and it feels great but that alone cannot sell a gloss in such a saturated market. I cannot shake the fact that it tinges my lips with blue - yes perhaps only noticeable to me but even so. This gloss could work just as well if it was clear - the blue colouring seems only there to emphasise its menthol credentials nothing more. Considering the price which is normally around the £7 mark I would advise skipping this gimmicky gloss for another which would look fantastic.
The packaging is eye-catching, it's a cool blue colour which reflects the menthol of the product. The brush is not a conventional sponge tip but instead a brush, like those that are used for nail varnish. It is therefore good for applying the product, but after a while, it can begin to splay and split after repeated usages.
It smells delicious, and has a cooling tingly sensation when applied which lasts. It's very shiny, so perfect for nights out with the girls. It's not sticky or gloopy, which makes a nice change from some other brands of lipgloss that I have used previously.
As always, Bourjois is slightly more expensive than other brands but always worth the little extra expense. The final result is pleasing and long-lasting. Kissable in fact.
