Advantages: Quality, affordable, adds length/volume, long lasting

Disadvantages: None

My local Superdrug had the whole range of Bourjois cosmetics on offer earlier in the year and I took the oppurtunity to try out a few products that I wasn't sure if I'd like and wouldn't of bought at full price.

One of the items that I purchased was the 'volume clubbing' mascara which appealed to me because I assumed, from the name, that it would be very volumising as well as waterproof/smudge proof. I also quite liked the mascara tube design as it is a nice change from a plain black mascara tube. Bourjois market this as being tear and sweat proof and say that it is perfect for clubbers.

The mascara retails at around £8.00 per 11ml tube, which is a reasonable price in my opinion and after having tried it and loving it, I would definitely pay full price for it. I managed to get mine for around the £5.00 mark which I'm pleased with but the full retail price is very affordable and not overpriced. The mascara is available in three different colours - blue, black and ultra black. I opted for ultra black and as I have dark hair and lashes the lack of lighter colour options wasn't an issue for me, however it may be for people with light hair and lashes.

The mascara comes in quite a funky tube - it's the average mascara tube shape and quite chunky while still being compact enough to easily fit in my make-up bag without taking up too much room and it could easily fit into my clutch bag if I needed to take it out with me for top-ups. The branding is really eye catching - it has a picture on the front of an eye with long lashes and the product name, shade name and brand name are written in white and golden writing. The words dramatic, intense, ultra resistant and volume are written near the bottom. The lid screws off like any other mascara and it has the wand and brush attatched to it.

The brush is a good length and not too chunky/bulky but not so compact that it is fiddly to use. The brush is described as Bourjois as being a double sided volumising brush but it isn't particularly any different to a majority of my other mascara brushes. The bristles are very close together and quite spindly which I wasn't keen on and I thought that it'd be hard to seperate my lashes without them clumping due to the brush design but it's actually great - with just one application my lashes are seperated and noticeabley longer without looking like spider legs.

The mascara makes a noticeable difference with just one coat and I find the finish it gives my lashes really impressive - they're left incredibly well defined and noticeably longer and thicker. It also lifts my lashes giving my eyes that 'wide awake' look. The mascara is easily buildable but it can start to clump after a few coats. I find that one coat is perfect for day time wear with relatively minimalistic make-up and three-four coats is great for nights out when I want a more dramatic look. On the couple of ocassions that I have applied too many coats the mascara started to flake soon after I'd applied it but as long as I don't over do it it's fine and very impressive.

The formula is well pigmented and just the right consistency - it doesn't feel heavy on my lashes and it has never irritated my eyes. It lives up to the claim of being tear and sweat proof and it doesn't budge. I'd say it lasts on average for a good 8hrs and unlike a lot of other waterproof mascaras it isn't too much of a pain to remove.

Overall I highly recommend this mascara and I give it five out of five stars.
