Advantages: waterproof, intense colour

Disadvantages: can clump if you don't apply properly

I have been meaning to buy some waterproof mascara for ages, and bought Bourjois Maxi Frange waterproof mascara on impulse. If I had been in a sensible mood, I probably wouldn’t have gone for this, because it cost £7.45 (reduced from £8.95), and although that’s the same price as my normal mascara, Max Factor Lash Lift, I had never tried the Bourjois range, so didn’t know what to expect. In the end though I’m glad I took the risk, because I’ve ended up really loving this mascara.

~*~Packaging~*~

I have to say that it was the packaging that first made me notice this mascara. The mascara comes in a double-ended tube. The end containing the mascara is black (although this will differ depending on which colour of mascara you are buying), and the other end, containing the ‘extension extreme’ is a metallic blue. The middle section, which has a brush on either end, is also metallic blue and has cute pink, girly flowers on it, which makes it look very tropical and sweet.

~*~Application -Step One~*~

As I said, this is a two-step mascara. The first step is to apply what is called the ‘Extension Extreme’. This is a white liquid, which you apply as a sort of undercoat to lengthen the lashes before applying the actual mascara. It comes with a comb to apply it with which I was slightly dubious about, as I had never used a comb to apply mascara before, but it was really easy to do. If you use a lash comb to separate your lashes you will be fine, as it’s just the same as that. I was really surprised once I had applied this, as I could actually see that my eyelashes were looking longer already.

~*~Application -Step Two~*~

Once the first coat has been applied, it’s time to apply the mascara over the top. I started having doubts when I removed the brush, as the mascara looked very watery, which in my opinion is usually a sign of lower quality mascara. I needn’t have worried too much as once applied this was fine. It goes on over the base coat very easily and didn’t clump together, which I was impressed with.

~*~What I thought~*~

The mascara made a definite improvement to the length of my lashes, and also made them look thicker. My eyelashes did stick together slightly straight after application, but that was easily sorted out by running an eyelash comb through them.
Another thing that really impressed me about this was the colour. As I said above, I bought the black one, and I found the colour to be a really intense, jet black.
It has also lived up to its waterproof claim, as so far it has not run at all when my eyes have been wet.
The main criticism I have about this, as it doesn’t look all that natural. I think a lot of that could actually be to do with the intensity of the black, and me having blonde eyelashes though! But seriously, if you’re looking for something that looks natural I would suggest going for Avon’s one great mascara, as this does look too intense to be real.

~*~Other Info~*~

This comes in three different shades – Noir Volcanique (Black), Bleu Bora Bora (Bright blue) and vert Honolulu (vibrant turquoise). You can also buy a non-waterproof version of this.
