I am not a big fan of lipstick in general because I am one of those people who tends to wear it occasionally on my lips and mostly on my teeth. However I do have to wear lipstick to work and it has to be 'a red colour that compliments your skin tone'. Really, the things we do to get paid. Since I have to ensure that it remains on my lips all day, I tend to go for a long lasting one. I have tried stains and just don't get on with them, so I went for the Bourjois Rouge Edition one because it seemed to fit the bill.
The lipstick is available in 18 different colours and it is actually a nice selection of browns, pinks and reds. There is probably something for everyone in the range because there are nice simple and natural colours as well as brighter and more bold colours. I went for the Rouge Jet Set, which seemed quite appropriate for me. It is quite a bold red colour but it is neither too dark that it looks like blood nor too light that it looks wishy washy. For a red lipstick, it is quite a nice colour.
The packaging of the lipsticks is quite chunky but it is convenient for seeing what colour the product is because there is a clear bit at the bottom. I have found that the colour you get is very well represented by the colour you see at the bottom of the tube - it is a much better method than those somewhat useless stickers you get on most brands.
The lipstick claims to last for up to ten hours but I think that is a pretty baseless claim really. Perhaps if you didn't put anything anywhere your lips for ten hours it might last, but i haven't found that I get anywhere near that. It lasts a couple of hours for me but even less if I eat a lot or drink. It goes on very well though and is quite a smooth lipstick, so reapplying is not that much of a chore.
I find that it is quite moisturising too which is one of the main reasons I don't wear lipstick in the first place. I find that they dry my lips out incredibly but this one isn't too bad. It isn't perfect and is certainly no substitute for lip balm but I find that it does seem to keep my lips hydrated for longer than any other lipstick I've had.
The lipstick isn't cheap at around the £8 mark, but I do think it is probably just about worth it because it is a nice colour and I have found that the actual tube has lasted me ages. It is available directly from the Bourjois website as well as places like Boots. In fact, at the time of writing, the product is in the buy one get one half price offer that Boots have on selected cosmetics. Recommended.
Lipstick is my favourite pick me up and indulgence for a under £10 you get a little retail therapy and it is something which is fun to experiment with! Bourjois always have the cutest packaging and their products are always of a high quality so when they launched the Rouge Edition lipstick collection I decided to pick one up.
The lipsticks come in black rectangular packaging with the shade being signalled by the colour of the base. In comparison to the rest of my lipstick collection the packaging is really bulky - it is certainly not dainty! I purchased shade 11 which is a bright reddish coral - which is a perfect pop of colour when keeping the rest of my make-up neutral. It's a great colour for spring as it is really fresh and just adds that extra something and is perfect for casual day wear or paired with a soft smoky eye at night.
The formula glides onto the lips and although it's a matt finish it still very moisturising and creamy. The colour is very true to how it looks in the bullet and is really opaque and vibrant on the lips - it is not a wash of colour is bold and bright! I think the colour I picked up would be universally flattering as it is so bright and rather neutral in terms of the red in it. In terms of staying power I would say this is average it lasts around 3 to 4 hours before I need to touch it up.
In terms of price these normally retail at about £7.99 which I think is reasonable for such a high quality product. The range of shades is brilliant and I will definitely be trying out more of the colours that are available especially when Boots have their dangerous 3 for 2 offer on!
WHAT IS IT?
Lipstick from Bourjois.
The tube that the lipstick is in is black and I think that it is quite bulky because the lid is a square shape. That is a pity because the lipstick inside looks very nice and shaped and I like the coloured end on the tube also but the large size and shape of the tube make me get it mixed up with Avon lipsticks when they are being stored in my cosmetics box.
I picked a shade called Fraise Remix because it is very bright pink and I was invited to go to an 80s party and I thought the colour was good for that with bright blue eye make up. The lipstick is very smooth to apply and it is soft also, it applies onto my lips very nice and just because the lipstick is soft it does not make it slippy to apply. The top of the lipstick has got a sharp shape so I can stay in my natural lip line without any problems and it does not bleed or run even if I do not use any lip liner pencil.
WHAT I THINK
I like this lipstick very much because the colour is bright and happy and it is a very nice and comfortable lipstick for me to wear. It has got quite a glossy finish but to get to that level you have to apply 2 or 3 coats and blot your lips carefully in between coats.
I do not like how often I have to apply this lipstick because it wears off quick and will transfer deeply onto cups and even food when I am eating or drinking. I did not notice this until I was at the party and then I was embarrassed at how much colour was on my glass whenever I went to get another drink. I kissed my host on the cheek and left a lot of lipstick there so it is good that is wife is my very close friend!
It is very moisturising and when I am wearing this lipstick it feels like I have applied lip balm because it makes my lips feel very soft and smooth.
I have worn this lipstick about 7 times and now it is summer I will wear it more because it makes me feel happy and it is bright for wear in the sun. I would wear it in winter also but then I would use different eye make up for the time of year.
I paid about £8 for this lipstick and I think that is value because it is one of the best pink shades I have seen and I like the glossy colour. There are about 20 shades for this lipstick and I am going to try some more of them.
