I am a self confessed beauty addict. Whenever I pass a make-up counter, I can't resist looking through the products deciding which one I 'need'. Recently I saw the range of Bourjois Rouge Pop lip glosses in Tesco and couldn't resist picking up a gorgeous pink shade (5 - Rose Pop). I never normally go for Bourjois due to a bad experience with one of their mascaras, but the colour was to die for.
You can pick this gloss up from any supermarkets and drug stores which stock Bourjois, it is also sold online. There are about 10 colours which range from a nude shade to a deep red. The gloss costs £1.99 and the tube is about the same size as most lip glosses but it is not stated on the tube.
The tube, as you can see above is pretty standard for a lip gloss, the lid unscrews with the applicator attached. I dislike the applicator as it is a little brush which I find to be messy. The tube itself is transparent so you are able to see the exact colour you have brought and how much is left. The name and brand is on the front with ingredients on the back.
The gloss states that it will give precise application giving you a high glossy shine with a coloured finish.
The application of lip gloss is pretty obvious, you unscrew the lid and apply evenly to your lips. The shelf life claims to be about 18 months. I would recommend throwing away the lip gloss after about 6, as the colour goes off and it becomes overly sticky.
Marked down a star for the wetness on my lips - but that is personal annoyance.
When applied, the gloss lasts for about 2/3 hours before it starts to fade and needs re-applying. If you eat, this time is cut down considerably and you will need to apply after your meal. I was pleasantly surprised about how un-sticky the product was. I assumed that because of the cheap price, it would be a bit useless - I was very wrong. Although, the lack of stick is made up by the fact it feels really watery on your lips which I did not like, but it meant that the colour stayed for a long time.
The colour is very pink which I love for a night with the girls as it stands out giving you a more glamorous look. I love how pigmented the lip gloss is, it goes on coloured not like most. I find that usually lip glosses are very watered down.
In my opinion, it is well worth adding to your collection if you like glossy lips with a good colour - it saves applying lip stick before lip gloss which I usually do! It is lasting me well and I use it almost every weekend. £1.99 well spent!
Now sometimes having a mom who is as addicted to beauty products as I am is a good thing. When shes not robbing my make-up she is on the lookout for new brands to try out and most of the time she buys some for me as well so I end up with a lot of products that I wouldnt normally buy for myself. My mom actually bought a set of these 'Bourjois Pop Chic Lipglosses' for herself a few weeks back but the colours she got werent 'her thing' so I ended up with them to tyr out for myself. Now Bourjois glosses wouldnt be a brand that Id normally opt for as in the past I havent got on very well with glosses from the brand but Im surprised to say I actually quite like these - they are definitely the best Bourjois glosses Ive tried so far anyway!
Price: Around £1.99
Stockists: Cheapsmells & Amazon - I believe this gloss has been discontinued so it might not be available in stores.
Shades: I cant find a full shade list for these glosses but I personally own - Poupre Chic (which is a browny/red), Prune Glycero (which is a sparkly pink/purple colour) & Rose Pop (which is a lovely medium, glittery pink shade. There is more than likely more than that but if those are anything to go by there will be a shade to suit everyone.
Other Info: This gloss promises precise and even application that gives you a highly coloured and ultra glossy finish that lasts for hours.
*As I mentioned I own more than one of these glosses BUT I use the 'Rose Pop' colour most often so thats the one I will be concentrating on in this review.*
The packaging of this gloss is pretty standard in my opinion - you have the clear tube at the bottom and then the handle of the applicator at the top, and as usual the brush applicator sits on the inside. The bottom of the tube is totally transparent through which you can clearly see the colour of the gloss inside - and thankfully the colour it appears in the tube is exactly what it looks like when you apply it to your lips so you wont be disappointed with the shade of gloss you plump for. Also on the bottom of the tube is a small amount of information on the product - shade name/number, shelf life (18 months if your interested) & an address for you to write to should you have any questions or problems about/with the product. At the top is the silver applicator handle which is simply screwed off to reveal the applicator and brush that sit on the inside of the tube - Ive found the handle to be very secure as Ive never had a problem with the leaking or drying out in my bag so the packaging isnt all that amazing to look at but its effective.
Application is very simple with this gloss I reckon. There is a very small bristled brush on the applicator which I think does make it fit your lips better and make application much more precise and much quicker. Enough gloss comes out on the brush as soon you take it out of the tube so you wont need to keep loading up the brush with more and more gloss each time - which means the tube will last a really long time definitely at least the 18 month shelf life. But as always I do have a very slight issue with the brush, actually 2 small problems. 1 - a little bit too much gloss comes onto the brush each time, as this gloss is highly pigmented with colour too much does look ridiculous and because a little too much comes out each time I find I HAVE to blot my lips after applying this. Not a massive issue but applying this on the go is a bit tricky. My second issue is when you have been using this for quite a while the brush bristles become a little untidy and splayed - I dont count that as a major disadvantage though because that happens with all lipgloss brushes so its not a brand specific problem I dont think. So Im knocking 1 star off for those two reasons, applying on the go is more difficult than usual.
The colour of this 'Rose Pop' gloss is the perfect shade for me I think. Although I did get this as aprt of a set this shade would have been one Id have bought if Id saw it in a shop because it is just my type of colour. In the tube the colour appears to be a medium pink shade with a very slight glittery look and that is exactly how it appears on my lips. Personally I think this is the perfect colour for me as yes it is highly pigmented but its still light enough to look natural and give your lips that lovely bitten look when its sunks in a little bit - I prefer a toned down lipgloss as I wear a lot of eye make-up and this one is perfect for that. Slightly pink and glittery but good even for wearing when you want a more natural lip look - although it could be layered up for a more striking colour. The colour Ive found lasts about 3 hours before it starts fading and even then some colour remains - its just not as bright so it lasts about 6 hours overall on my lips which is brilliant staying power Ive found - and it lasts even longer with a primer applied before it. This as a standard gloss is fantastic as well - its non-sticky and shockingly moisturising. The colour is brilliant and it doesnt dry out my lips in the slightest. With coloured glosses I find the colour fades fast and they tend to dry out my lips as well OR the colour doesnt stay put and ends up all my face and teeth but I havent had any of those issues with this one at all so its a winner for me. As I mentioned Im knocking a star off for my small problems but apart from those I would highly recommend this gloss. The colours are great, the last for ages, they dont dry out your lips and actually nourish them - whats not to like?
Thanks For Reading.
