Disadvantages: a little bit pricey

I am very fond of the Bourjois brand as I have always found it to be of good quality and their products tend to give a more dramatic effect. During one of my failed attempts at Christmas shopping I found myself browsing the Bourjois stand in Boots. I decided to treat myself to a couple of their new products. One of these was the Shimmering Shine Liquid Eye shadow. There were eight different shades to choose from, all of which were metallic looking to give the shimmering shine effect.

I chose the "Rose Acier" colour, which is a very pale pink/lilac colour which has a metallic shimmer to it. The pot looks similar to a small nail varnish bottle and I couldn't help but think it looked cute!! My little 8.5ml pot set me back £6.99 although as I brought it alongside another Bourjois product I did get a free gift of some lip colour thing!

The Shimmering Shine Liquid Eye shadow is water based and the adverts claim that it dries fast, is non sticky and crease resistant. As you take the lid of the pot you then need to pull out the stick applicator. At first I thought this was an odd design but it actually works well as the applicator allows you more control over the effect you want and the pot design prevents accidental spillage if you knock it over. As you pull out the stick applicator and apply it to your eye lid it does feel very wet and cold and makes you wonder if it will ever dry! Shockingly it dries within a couple of seconds and feels light and as if you aren't wearing any eye shadow at all. This surprised me as I expected it to feel thick and heavy.

Once dried the eye shadow really does live up to its name. It has a real shimmering shine effect and highlights your eyes well. I was a bit worried as I like to apply black liquid eyeliner before my eye shadow, and was convinced that being so wet this eye shadow would smudge and ruin my already applied eyeliner! However, this was not the case at all. As long as my eyeliner is dry, applying this eye shadow over the top is no problem. It actually gives a really nice effect.

Although the eye shadow appeared to have dried well I was convinced that it would crease like many other liquid and even some powder eye shadows do. Again, I was pleasantly surprised. I can put this eye shadow on in the morning and as long as I don't rub my eyes too much then it is still there when I get home late afternoon and without a single crease!! I have found it particularly suited for nights out as it gives a dazzling, bold look.I am very impressed with this product and am actually going to invest in another shade as I like it so much. I am allergic to so many make up items so when I find one that does not give me an allergic reaction it usually lets me down in other ways, yet with this it hits all the criteria!

Summary of the good points:

- Well designed pot and applicator making application easy and precise
- Does not crease (stays looking perfect!)
- Does not smudge eyeliner if applied over the top
- Range of eight pearly colours
- Long lasting as you do not need to apply loads.

Summary of the not so good points:
- Not cheap
- Shimmering shine may be too bold for some people.


So overall I am made up with this product, although it was fairly expensive I think it is worth every penny for its quality alone. It is now my favourite and most regularly used eye shadow. Five stars from me and 100% recommendation.
