Advantages: Nice range of colours, Lightweight and long lasting, Lovely finish.
Disadvantages: Dry very quickly so need to work fast, Can flake slightly.
Although I love Bourjois' mascaras and eyeliners, I never buy their eyeshadows or blushes as they seem to be baked and so have that hard, shiney, hard-to-pick up texture that requires a lot of work. That said, I did recently pick up a few of their "Shimmering Shine Liquid Eyeshadows" as they looked original and unlike any thing else I had seen before. Available in mostly neutral shades with a few brights, they retail at around six pounds if I recall correctly. (I'm unable to check at the moment as Boots.com doesn't seem to stock it).
The "Shimmering Shine Liquid Eyeshadows" is an 'innovative water based product' that 'amplifeyes the brilliance of pearlized pigments' to 'multiply thier shine'. It claims to provide an incredibly fresh and light sensation and to dry quickly for a non-sticky and crease resistant finish. The patented applicator promises an easy, precise result to 'suit your every mood'.
They are packaged in a small, clear plastic tub with a lid that unscews to reveal the handle of the brush. You pull the handle and a thin, spongey brush is revealed. Since the packaging is clear you can see the amount of product left and know when you need to repurchase :-)
According to the official Bourjois website there are 8 different shades: Molecule D'Or 31 (a pale gold), Brun Magnetique 32 (neutral brown-taupe - my favourite!), Beige Metallique 33 (pale shimmering beige), Rose Acier 34 (a cool toned mauvey type colour), Gris Platine 35 (cool toned grey blue), Bleu Electrolyse 36 (a bright turquoise shot blue), Blanc Chrome 37 (sheer silvery white) and Rose Electron 38 (a brighter pink shade).
To apply I either use the brush included, which is probably the most effective applicator I have used that comes with a product - most of the time they are tiny sponge tips that I can't stand. This brush adds a nice, fine line of shadow to the lid, probably about 5-6mm wide, great if you just want a pop of colour on the lower lid. If you use a larger brush you can cover larger areas of the lid quicker, but it's definately not a necessity as you can achieve the same effect with the built in brush and a little patience.
Once on I find that I have to smudge the edges immediately or I am left with a harsh line. When you smudge it the colour fades slightly, but if you're just blending the edges then it doesn't really matter as it looks nice :-)
They really do have a highly metallic, wet look finish which is something I have never been able to achieve before. Most creme shadows tend to stay damp looking and settle into the crease of my eye even with a good base, but "Shimmering Shine" doesn't! It almost looks like foiled metal, lovely!
They stay on all day for me, though I have to be extra careful not the rub my eyes as it can flake slightly if touched. The only other problem is that because they are liquid, they will harbour bacteria a lot more than powder products, but as long as you chuck them if you get any kind of eye infection and take notice of the shelf life, then it will be fine.
Overall I love them! Truly live up to the promises and I have never seen a liquid eyeshadow that performs this well.
Summary: Will be getting more! A+
