As the New Year rolled in, I decided to treat myself to a nice new lipstick to herald the New Me (you know, the one that's made loads of resolutions to be fitter, healthier, thinner and so on...). I don't know quite what it is about the Bourjois stand in Boots, but it always looks somehow prettier than the other make-up stands. And a little quirky. I generally find Bourjois to be a reliable make-up brand so I decided to chose a Bourjois lipstick. I went for a Sweet Kiss lipstick because the tester colours looked so appealing and I liked the shiny purple packaging.
I chose a Sweet Kiss lipstick in Rose Habille, which is a soft, muted, dusky rose with a hint of shimmer. When I got the lipstick home, I discovered that the shiny purple packaging which had attracted me to the lipstick in the first place is, in fact, the worst lipstick packaging ever. It took a few minutes to figure out how to get my new lippie out! Basically, the lipstick packaging has a silver slider up the side- it looks as though this will slide out the lipstick bullet, but in fact pushes out a silver lipstick holder that contains the lipstick bullet. It took me a while to figure this out because I was holding the lipstick the wrong way up. Guess I should hold off applying for Mensa for now.
The lipstick itself has a really nice, creamy texture that doesn't dry out the lips, and provides a nice, even colour application. The shade a chose is a lovely neutral colour for those with pale skin, and the sheen gives a nice, fresh look. I noticed that, with a second coat, the colour is more pronounced and the sheen becomes more of a sparkle- good news, as it means this lipstick will be versatile, good for either day wear or for dressing up a little in the evening. There are times when a little extra sparkle is definitely a good thing.
This isn't a particularly long lasting lipstick, and it isn't marketed as such- that being said, though, because it's a natural looking colour it isn't too noticeable when it starts to wear off and the moisturising effect is long lasting.
This lipstick cost £7.99, although actually less than that as I got it as part of a three for two offer. Boots very often run these offers so it's always worth checking before you shop there. If you have a Boots card, you'll get points too (if you don't have one, get one!). I think this was fairly decent value for money as it's a good quality, versatile lipstick, available in a decent range of colours. I'm going to ding it a star for the awful packaging though. It's easier to blame Boujois than admit I can't figure out how to open a lipstick.
As a big fan of Bourjois, I have many of their pink lipsticks, and when I purchased this Sweet Kiss one in colour 43 Rose Pomponne, I made a reliable addition to my "everydaywear" collection.
The packaging is different from other Bourjois lipsticks I own, and to be honest I am not a huge fan of it. It is purple, plastic and slightly see-through, and you push a little round button down to release the lipstick. This can be a bit stiff. However, it has never broken and seems good quality if slightly cheap looking.
The lipstick itself is great! The formula feels very smooth, smells nice and sweet but not sickly, and gives very good coverage that doesn't easily move out of place. The colour pigmentation is nice - it is strong and covers well, but is not remotely tacky or brash. These lipsticks are highly wearable for a variety of age groups and skin tones, and look better on than in the tube. The lipstick lasts even when you eat and drink, and a quick rub together of the lips (or perhaps a sweet kiss?!) releases the smoothness and makes the lips feel soft and moisturised.
I love this lipstick!.
I have always played it quite safe with lipstick and stuck to natural colours that enhance my normal lip colour. I wanted something a bit daring and different for a special occasion but didn't want to spend too much money. I have always found Bourjois to be a good mid range brand so headed to Boots to have a look at what they had on offer. The colour I purchased was 80 Fuchsia Cosmopolite. It's a very bright almost neon pink. I find it to be a more accessible bright lipstick to other brands so if you are new to bright bold lipsticks this may be a good choice to start off with. Bourgois advise using it by applying it to the centre of your lips and smudging it to create a softer look which is more on trend at the moment. It really is a stunning colour and can be used for day and night. The lipstick can be a little drying but it's not a major issue. The colour last a long time and only required a few touch ups on a night out .
It is packaged in a nice translucent purple plastic casing with a little click button to pop the lipstick out. The only thing with this is that when the lipstick is hanging out at the bottom of my bag I often find the lid has popped off!. Apart from the the packaging is really pretty and makes it stand out from other lipsticks in my collection. I would definitely buy other colours from this collection
I don't normally wear lipstick. But i wanted my lips to completely stand out for one of my parties & got this. I wanted a really really bright pink colour & i found that in the shop, for around 3pound. Now that is not a lot for a lipstick as good as this. It lasted so long, i only had to redo it 2 times within the night! It looks fabulous, doesn't make your lips feel sticky and doesn't smudge easily. It is perfect if you want your lips to be the first noticeable thing when someone looks at you. It has cute colours. My lips seemed a lot bigger once applying this, which i was pleased with, since my lips aren't that big. It made me feel better & people kept complimenting me about my lips, which i don't normally get a lot of compliments about. Really good for nights out!
Bourjois Sweet Kiss Lipstick
Firstly I am a really big fan of the bourjois products, not only because they are french and amazing, but also because they are really affordable, especially the really cute mini range they have. I have the one which is in the shade rose pomponne which is a gorgeous deep pink with tiny golden shimmery flakes in.
I really like the packaging for this product is it a bit usual and maybe a bit over the top for a lipstick, but its nice. It is purple and on the top of the lipstick case thing it has a coloured circle which shows the colour of the lipstick - which for the shade that I have is really quite accurate to the actual shade of the lipstick. The case it is in, is not just a slide off case, on he front of the case it has a small metal circle which you push up and the the lipstick is released - I guess this is just for show and to make it look nicer, but it also keeps the lipstick from being broken off and it also protects it from any of my other make up products from possibly spilling on it too.
It is really easy to apply and it is also really easy to take off and it does not leave any residual colour from the lipstick behind either which is good. But it can look a bit 'powdery' or something on my lips - like it is a bit heavy on my lips, It is not very light on my lips which is a bit disappointing as I really like this brand and the other products that I have used from them were really good, but this is not one of their best products.
But saying that apart from the slightly heavy and a bit powdery feel it is a really good lipstick. The shade that I have is really nice, the deep pink suits my pale skin quite well and the small shimmery particles in it look really nice and subtle and they also catch the light really nicely - but it is not very 'in your face' it is very discreet.
I bought this from boots quite a while ago and it has lasted like ages. I think I payed £7.99 or £6.99 for this lipstick, and it is now £7.99 in boots. They also have eight shades to choose from.
*Strong shimmery shades
*Easy to apply, blend and take off
*Good high quality brand
*nice but a bit over the top packaging, but still I like it
*Shimmery particles - give a subtle sheen
*Colour stays on my lips for most of the day - but I just touch it up anyway
*For for day or night
*Available in boots
*It has a scent to it as well - to me it smells a little bit like sunscreen... and make up, but some people may not like it
*Can be a bit heavy and 'powdery' sometimes on my lips - but exfoliators and lip balm make it easier to apply.
*A little bit expensive
