Advantages: nice colour, subtle but visible, moisturisation that lasts for ages

Disadvantages: not vegetarian

I bought this lip balm a few months ago for around £5. Having bought it online I wasn't sure what the colour was like but it was subtle but bright enough to show. It went on really smoothly and was soft without being sticky. The moisture from just one application could be felt for ages. I was in love!

A few days later, I can't remember why, I was reading the ingredients list and saw carmine on there. One of the main things that attracted me to Burt's Bees products was the fact it was animal friendly. Carmine is a red dye made from ground up beetles. I just couldn't use it after that, not just from an ethical point of view but mainly from an ick point of view!

I would whole heartedly recommend this product if the beetle juice thing doesn't bother you! Otherwise you'll need to look elsewhere. The Body Shop does a tinted lip balm (delicious) in a similar format which is vegetarian and vegan though is slightly stickier.

Summary: recommended whole heartily if you don't mind about the ingredients
