~Carmex Lipbalm~
~Balm Me Up Baby~
Last week, with all this new winter cold coming in, my lips were getting dry and I searched around the house for some Vaseline, my usual lip saviour, but instead I found carmex lip balm in my sister’s room, she has a thing about buying lip balm’s and lip gloss’s so I guessed she wouldn’t realise it had gone missing as she has another 1000 to use. It worked really well and I’m sorry to say but Vaseline has some competition!
Carmex Lip Balm is produced in Wisconsin USA and was founded by Alfred Woelbing in the early 1930’s
~Price~
Carmex Lip Balm isn’t very easy to find, it’s made in America and it’s usually easier to get from the internet rather than shops.
Garden Pharmacy (www.garden.co.uk) £2.25
Feel Confident (www.feelconfident.co.uk) £2.25
~Pot~
Although you can also buy Carmex Lip Balm in tubes or as a stick I will be reviewing the pot. They’re available as either ¼ ounce or ½ ounce. They’re pretty small, compared to a Vaseline tin they are about half the diameter but just under twice the depth, according to the website they can last for 120 days! The little pots were the first to be released in the Carmex range in 1937 and are still the most popular today, who could resist the little pot!
The pot is made from white plastic with a yellow metal screw on lid. On the lid is a lot of black small writing (directions of use, ingredients etc) and CARMEX is written in large letters at the top. The pot itself is quite different and it looks more like something your doctor would subscribe rather than an off-the-shelf lip balm.
~Lip Balm~
The lip balm is a translucent white colour which is transparent when put onto your lips. It’s easy to apply, just dap a bit onto your finger from the pot and then smooth over your lips. It smells like a weaker version of vicks vaporub which is not to everyone‘s liking. After a few seconds of it being on your lips a slight tingling sensation occurs, if your lips are particularly dry this sensation is more of a sting than a tingle though. When you breath through your mouth with the balm on it tastes quite minty and fresh (When you lick your lips it doesn’t taste minty though for some disappointing reason) The tingling does go away after a while but I always find if something tingles or stings you know it’s working. Of course the more moist your lips get the less it stings so if you keep applying regularly you lips no longer sting when it’s applied.
It’s definitely effective for sore, dry lips, within about 4 days my lips were back to their usually smiling state. I did apply the balm regularly (every hour approx) so it may take longer for those of you that don’t use it as often. I don’t suffer with cold sores so I don’t know how effective it is at helping with them, it’s a really good lip balm so I imagine it would be pretty good as after having a cold sore you’re left with mainly hardened, irritated skin.
