Carmex Lip Balm
Advantages: SPF, Price, Moisturises lips very well, tube lasts a very long time
Disadvantages: Nothing, I love this balm
***Why I want the product?***
With the colder weather looming over us my lips as always are taking a battering. My lips are dry all year round but obviously more so in the winter months. I have tried what I thought to be great products from a well-known high street brand, which unfortunately did not live up to their high expectations, I needed another, something I am ashamed to say I have never used before and something that always gets raves reviews. It had to be Carmex.
***About the product***
Carmex lip balm helps to restore the natural moisture that weather and air conditioning can suck right out of your lips. Without their natural moisture, your lips become irritated, rough, sore and sometimes bleeding can occur.
I picked Strawberry Carmex Lip Balm with SPF15. Carmex say this product helps to relieve and alleviates roughness of sore, dry lips. Helps to replace lost moisture from wind and sun and with a great ingredient called menthol and phenol this germ-killing ingredient helps to speed up the healing process of sore and cracked lips.
Carmex adds natural emollients to your lips while locking in your own body's natural moisture level to help against chapped, dry lips.
***What ingredients are in Carmex?***
Octinoxate and Oxybenzone are two great sunscreen agents to help with the battering sun.
Beeswax, camphor, cetyl esters, flavour, lanolin, mineral oil, petrolatum, and theobroma cacao(cocoa) seed butter is all wonderful moisturising ingredients.
Carmex comes in simple packaging of a backed cardboard with Carmex on the front protected in a moulded plastic casing. The back of the cardboard tells you about the product, how to apply and what to expect, while the front gives you a description of the product you are purchasing.
The product itself comes in a 10g bright yellow squeezable tube with a red screw off lid. The tube tells you what the product is, how to apply, ingredients used and the product has a 24 month shelf life.
***What does the product look like?***
Squeezing a small amount of product from the tube I am greeted with a lovely sweet strawberry smell that is not overpowering.
In all honestly I was not sure what I was expecting the product to look or feel like, properly like Vaseline. I am glad to say it looks and feels nothing like Vaseline.
As the product comes in a tube the transparent pale yellow product pumps out in a solid straight line unlike other lip balms that are very runny, I have found it depends where and the temperature of where the product has been kept. If the temperature is cold the product is solid and the summer months make the product a little softer.
***Applying the product, and how it feels***
Applying onto dry naked lips, as soon as the once solid product touches my lips it immediately warms up and sinks on beautifully. It does not feel at all oily, sticky or waxy. Carmex leaves a lovely shine that looks like I have applied a gloss enhancing my natural lip colour and most importantly my lips feel immediately softer and look smoother on one application.
Before trying Carmex my lips we're in a bad way due to using not effective lip balms, not using them enough, harsh cold winter weather and central heating. Surprisingly for me after using Carmex a few times a day and a lovely thick coating at night left me with soft lips in the morning that did not look damaged but in fact looked healthy and this has carried on ever since.
I find Carmex does not sink into my lips but instead lays a protective barrier on top of my lips that is not irritating and the scent is no longer detectable.
***Price and availability***
At the time I purchased Carmex Strawberry from superdrug.com for £1.99, but you can also purchase from boots.com for £2.69 or other leading shops/online.
***What I think about it/do I like it?***
Since purchasing Carmex I have been hooked on this product and it has become a staple in my beauty routine, especially for the winter season. I can say my lips have never been painfully dry or cracked even after a bad cold since I have used it.
Carmex helps to keep my lips moist, comfortable, protected, and smooth every single time. The tube lasts surprisingly long, and does not wear away on my lips as quickly like I expected even after eating and drinking.
The tube lasts a long time as such a small amount is needed so the 10g tube for money is very cost effective. This is defiantly a product I will re-purchase again and again.
Regarding the SPF, I have to say I have not noticed any difference as I always use an moisturiser SPF on my lips anyway.
Summary: It's been a long time coming, but I have found you now.
