Advantages: Volumising and long wearing
Disadvantages: A bit pricey!
I received this mascara as a sample from the Chanel counter in boots. I was surprised as they rarely ever have samples that they give away, so I was eager to try the free product.
The shade of mascara which received is smoky noir and the tube was enough for a 7 day trial. The mascara claims to volumise lashes, lengthen and curl them without clumping the lashes together. I would agree that the mascara lengthens and volumises, however I have not really noticed any curling effect. However my lashes are naturally curly anyway so that may be why. The pigmentation of the black is intense and it shows up incredibly well. There is no flaking or clumping as the mascara promises so it fulfills its claims. The wand is plastic with plastic and synthetic bristles from what I can acertain. It has two alternating bristle type, one is taller then the other; the taller bristle is plastic and then the shorter row of bristles are synthetic. I hoep you can imagine what I mean, it is hard to describe effectively, if you are interested visit the boots website as it has a picture of the wand and you might be able to see what I mean.
The mascara comes in four shades, these include smoky marine, smoky violine, smoky noir and smoky brun. These translate as green, purple, black and brown I believe. It reatils at £20.50, if bought from boots this will earn you advatage card points. I consider this mascara a high end product as it is rather expensive.
In regards to the long wear of the product, I find that it lasts me all day without coming off, it does not run either which is a bonus as my eyes occasionaly water due to pollen etc. This is the only mascara I have ever received comments on, my sister asked me what one I was wearing because my lashes looked really prominant. I think this mascara works well as both a day and night look, because where I would only use one coat for the day, if you apple another coat it would be perfect for a dramatic night look.
The mascara is incredibly easy to remove, once I have splashed my face a few times with water it comes loose and I just have to wipe away the panda eyes! I find that any gentle eye remover and a cotton wool pad can also remove the mascara, it slides off easily so there is minimal pulling and stretching of the skin around the eye area which is a bonus!
I am giving this a 4/5 because although I was happy with the results I feel it is still pricey for what it is, I imagine that there will be cheaper mascaras which would retail below £15 which may achieve similar effects. However this is a good mascara and if you think it sounds great and money isn't much of an issue for you then I would recommend buying it to try.
I hope this helps you.
Summary: A good mascara but will hurt your wallet/purse

- 21/07/09 I have not found one that is cheaper and works as well, but I haven't really tried many drugstore brands lately. I have heard good reviews on loreal telescopic though so you could try that. :) |

- 21/07/09 It does sound good - Chanel do some amazing products - but dont think I could pay that much money for something that I might be able to get the same results with for cheaper! Is there another mascara you think it compares to that is just as good?? xx |
