I have always been a bit scared of the Chanel counter in department stores - the ladies behind the counter are always that bit too pristine and the products look that bit too extravagant and expensive to buy to be able to have a good browse.
However, a while ago (pre baby and whilst in full time employment) I had some time to kill in Duty Free once so I thought I would bite the bullet and have a good look around.
Sure enough, as soon as I got to the counter I was drawn in. That gorgeous black packaging with the magical gold "C"s - I just had to buy something and I purchased one of these lovely lipglosses.
I was so excited to finally having bought a Chanel lip gloss I rushed to ladies to try it out. The lip gloss comes in a heavy duty plastic tube - feels almost glass like and the top is of course black with the "C"s clearly showing on the lid.
The lip gloss is really luxurious to apply to the lips and coats very easily with just one layer. It is not sticky at all and lasts really well.
I purchased the lip gloss in "Twinkle" shade - a gorgeous rosey gold colour which instantly transforms my everyday make up into a really glamourous look. I must admit that equally as much as I enjoy the look and feel of this product on my lips, I enjoy the feeling that I am really treating myself when using it.
These lovely lipglosses retail at over £18, so more than I would expect to pay for even a premium lipgloss. But, you are buying into the brand as much as the lipgloss, so if your pocket can stretch to it and you really need a treat then go for it. As for me, hmm, think I will need to make my current one last for a wee while longer before replacing!
I got this while I was on holiday in Barcelona from a cosmetics store in the city centre. I don't regularly shop for makeup from brands like Chanel but like to occasionally treat myself to an expensive lip gloss. I usually get Dior or Lancôme but the Chanel counter appealed to me more on this occasion.
The lip gloss was Euro25 which I admit is ridiculously expensive and with the current exchange rate might as well be £25 but I was immediately impressed with this lip gloss. After looking at loads of different colours I went with "Seashell" which in the bottle was a gold shimmery colour.
It comes in a long plain bottle with a black lid which has the tiny Chanel logo in gold at the top. The bottle is quite plain but looks classy. There isn't anything distinctive about it though so you wouldn't necessarily know it was designer without looking closer. The bottle is in a nice black box with various Chanel print in gold. Although I haven't really found much use for the box it is a nice feature when spending so much.

***The Lip Gloss...
The first thing I will talk about is the colour, it is a gorgeous gold colour with loads of little sparkly bits in. The bits are subtle though and don't look like big pieces of glitter and you cant feel them. However they create an amazing gloss effect that made my lips look so much bigger. I never really paid attention to these 3D effect lip glosses before that promise to create the illusion of bigger lips, however this really does do that! The gloss also creates a really nice high shine look. I think the colour is suitable for day or night however I prefer to use it only at night as I prefer a clear or pink gloss during the day.
It has a sponge applicator which quite surprised me as most designer brands are moving towards brush applicators which are apparently more hygienic. However I prefer a sponge applicator which gives a more smooth rather than streaky finish and is generally easier to use when you're on the go. The gloss is neither watery nor thick, I would say it was about right. However this means that like any other lip gloss that isn't really thick the colour does come off fairly quickly, more so if you're drinking or eating. But because it isn't too thick it feels comfortable on the lips and not sticky, also meaning your hair doesn't end up sticking to it after 5 seconds!
It doesn't really have a smell which is what I expected from a lip gloss like this. It is really moisturising on the lips, it feels great when you put it on in the same way that applying lip gloss feels nice on dry lips. And my lips have stayed moisturised while I have it on and afterwards.
I have only ever worn it on its own, I don't think it is suitable as a shimmer over another solid lip colour as I think it would cover up the original colour too much. However it would go well with a beige lip liner.
I am really impressed with this lip gloss. I know it still doesn't justify the price tag and would definitely only ever see something like this as a treat, yet it does excel any cheaper lip glosses I have used and many other designer ones I have tried. So if you do like spending a bit more occasionally I would highly recommend this.
