I, like many people, suffer from dry lips all the time - doesn't matter whether it is hot or cold, you can guarantee that my lips will dry. As a result I have untold amounts of lip balm and I carry them round with me all the time - just ask my husband, he's forever washing them when I forget to take them out of my pockets. My favourite though, has to be the Chap Stick Cherry one. Even though it does make me sing Katy Perry songs whenever I see it, I can overlook that fault because it is a great balm.
Like many lip balms, this one comes in stick form and it is very handy to carry around. I have never had any problems with the stick. I sometimes find that others can come loose and then they stick to the inside of the lid. This one though is obviously well made and durable.
The balm is red in colour, but that colour doesn't transfer to your lips. It has a sort of transparent look to it so it is ideal for wearing under or over lipstick and it won't change the colour. The other good thing about the fact that this doesn't transfer colour is that if you get some on your teeth, you don't look like a total wally with pink bits showing on your smile!
I find that it gives my lips a little shine if I am wearing it over my lipstick. I also find that it isn't too slippy, so that you can easily apply lipstick over the top. I have had balms in the past that make applying lipstick over the top impossible because they don't stick but it's not the case with this one.
The smell is lovely. I am not a big fan of overpowering smells, especially on my lips and face, but this one is just right. It definitely smells of cherry and is quite sweet with it, but it is not sickly at all. It reminds me of some kind of sweet that I used to eat when I was younger, which is nice. It tastes nice as well. I know you aren't supposed to eat it, and I don't, but it is hard not to get the taste of lip balm in your mouth. I was pleased to find that this one doesn't have that chemically taste that a lot do.
It has some SPF protection in it which is good for summer (if we get one) although I tend to put sun cream on my lips anyway because I wouldn't trust a lip balm. It is good for putting over the top of the sun cream though because it gives a bit of extra moisturiser.
I really feel like I can notice the difference when I have been using this Chap Stick because my lips do feel much softer and moisturised. I tend to apply it as and when I need it and I find that it works instantly because the moisture soaks straight into my lips. I also find that I don't need too much of it either. Sometimes I think that you have to go over and over your lips with lip balm, but this one takes just one coat to feel the effects. Since I have started using it I have found that I don't get loose bits of skin on my lips either, which is great.
I bought the Chap Stick from Superdrug I think for about a pound. I have seen it is pound shops on offer for less (which is something that always amuses me about pound shops) and at this price, I think it is an absolute bargain. I would be happy to pay more for it because it does that good a job, but for a pound it is a must have really. Definitely recommended.
Summary: Definitely worth a pound!
