ChapStick Lip Balm Cherry
Advantages: Nice scent, shiny, useful, practical, protect the lips
Disadvantages: Doesn't treat or moisturise the lips
The ChapStick brand is very widely available and popular, so when I needed a lip balm I bought one of these in cherry flavour. They are sold in chemists, supermarkets and online along with other types of shops. The packaging is a standard white plastic tube with a reddish coloured plastic wrapped around it which displays the ChapStick logo and some information. To open it you have to twist the top which will break the seal. To use it you need to twist the base which will push the stick of lip balm up. The overall packaging and design are just the standard lip balm stick design, no fuss and very simple to use.
The actual lip balm is a dark pink colour and it does have a noticeable scent. It definitely has a cherry smell, more like cherry sweets than fresh cherries but a nice and pleasant smell, not one of those annoying smells that you get sick of. The taste isn't bad either which is a plus point as you will inevitably end up tasting it when it's on your lips.
It glides on easily and instantly gives a smooth feeling to your lips. When you apply it, it adds a sleek coating to your lips which will shield them from harsh weather which can be damaging. It does make your lips feel moisturised while it's on, it makes them feel nice and soft but I don't think it provides any actual nourishment or hydration. I've found that once it's completely off your lips, they're back to however they were before. I don't think it treats your lips but it does give a barrier between your lips and the elements. It also contains an SPF 15 to protect your lips from the sun, as well as protecting them from the harsh winter weather. It also adds a very, very slight and sheer tint to the lips but this isn't really noticeable, it adds shine as well which is nice.
I would definitely recommend this as a protective product to protect your lips from the elements. I would also recommend it for anyone who wants soft and smooth lips with some shine and a nice flavour. In my opinion, this doesn't treat or heal the lips but it does add a smooth coating while it's on. If you're looking to actually heal and treat the lips and add real moisture then I wouldn't recommend the ChapStick for that purpose although it's great to prevent further damage and protect the lips by shielding them. Also, it's a nice little product in very compact packaging which makes it practical to carry around wherever you go. It's very useful and does a good job at protecting the lips.
I have taken off 2 stars, I wasn't sure whether to do that or not as I do really like this and it does a great job at protecting the lips, smoothing them and making them soft and shiny. They're marketed as moisturising and hydrating the lips though which I don't think is actually true. They do make them feel less dry while it's on but I really do think that's because it has coated the lips, it doesn't penetrate the lips and moisturise them like some other products.
Summary: A nice little product, very useful but doesn't live up to some of its claims
