Advantages: works well, cheap

Disadvantages: strong smell, not for continual use

Especially in the winter, I have really dry chapped lips. I'm always buying, and loosing lip balms & like to have one in my bag, one in my flat etc - so I decided to try Chap Stick as it's fairly cheap & widely avaliable. Chap Stick make a few lip salves: I'll be talking about the origonal. Chapstick claim that their origonal lip salve:

helps prevent and temporarily protects chafed, chapped, cracked, or windburned lips
helps prevent sunburn
higher SPF gives more sunburn protection

Price - Around 1.50, depending where you get it.

Avaliability - Most major chemists and supermarkets.

Packaging - Comes in a small tube, with a windy bit at the bottom. The tube is dark blue, with the Chap Stick logo & ingredients. Nice packaging & I like that it's in a tube in stick form 'cos I don't like lip balms in tins - your fingers get all greasy after application & it's not very hygenic.

Ingredients:
arachidyl propionate, camphor, cetyl alcohol, D&C red no. 6 barium lake, FD&C yellow no. 5 aluminum lake, fragrance, isopropyl lanolate, isopropyl myristate, lanolin, light mineral oil, methylparaben, octyldodecanol, oleyl alcohol, phenyl methicone, propylparaben, titanium dioxide, waxes
Padimate
White petrolatum

Is it any good: I tend to use chapstick at night, after exfoliating my lips with an old tootbrush or lip scuff & mousturising. When I wake up, my lips are very soft & smooth, with no cracks or dryness. It has quite a light, non-greasy feel & sinks in quickly. Don't use too much though - just a quick sweep is enough, or your lips will feel very 'coated'. I don't tend to use it throughout the day, as it has a very strong, mediciney smell which isn't very pleasant & it also irritates my lips after continuos use. ChapStick is much more of a medicinal product than regular lip balms, so I think it may be abit too strong to apply every 5 minutes.
It has an SPF of 15, which is good, especially in the summer.
I said my review was about the origonal, but - the Flava Craze chapsticks smell incredible! They come in watermelon, tropical & apple, and smell just like those fruit-chew sweets you get :)

More Information - the chapstick website is very informative & easy to use :

Summary: A good one for very dry lips
