Disadvantages: THRE'S GOT TO BE CALORIES IN THERE SOMEWHERE - TOO MUCH OILS AND WAXS GOING ON NOT TO BE!

I love spotting bargains when I shop in my favourite Boots the Chemist shop for face creams, hair care, etc, plus personal care items - which I would categorise my new purchase of 'ChapStick' balm stick as.

Wanting to spend over a fiver at the till as their vouchers for £5 off No7 and Ruby & Millie are now back in play until 13th September 2009, I quickly scanned down the Reduced Section of shelving housing allsorts of hidden toiletry treasures!

Often suffering with dry and cracked lips, I know from years of experience that you can't beat good old ChapStick for soothing away those rough and weather-beaten sore lips, despite trying several other named and shop's own brands.
My beady eyes rested within a few seconds (expert consumer scanner her you know!) upon a little open box with about a dozen of these Cherry flavoured finger-sized salve sticks reduced to half price from £1.18 to 59p - Excellent!

Offering 'Everyday lip protection' the manufacturers 'Wyeth Consumer Healthcare' have really got their act together with different flavours since the good old 'Original' - which used to taste like a Vaseline slick coating your poor old mouth!

There was also a Strawberry option for the same price with added SPF 15 which is great for the people who do not wear lipstick/gloss when they are out. However, I do at all times so I went for my preferred flavour over the sun protection factor aspect...

Plastic splinter sealed in bright red, the 3" long white tube with a pop off little lid snaps easily off to reveal a pretty funky looking fuscia pink product that smells rather lovely actually! The contents equate to about 2" in length and lasts months, even if used regularly.

As always with goods of this nature the proof is on the slathered on pudding, folks, so I painted my somewhat dehydrated lips with the fruity, smooth coating whilst fighting an overwhelming urge to snap it off and greedily eat it!

It smelt divine! Not at all chemical but very natural in fragrance with a lingering aroma that was very pleasing to the nose!

Rubbing my really dry lips together in an effort to encourage the upper tiny cracks in my skin to absorb this salve a bit quicker than just wiping it adroitly on, it felt gentle and moisturising without feeling greasy.
Now it's an occupational hazard with products of this sort to lick it off subconsciously thereby ingesting minute amounts, so I have scanned the tiny lettering on the side of the 'Lip health' cylindrical tube to find the ingredients for anything alarming.

As you would expect the usual Petroleum and Paraffin, along with Lanolin, Camphor and Menthol.

In all there is quite the little list of additives but the surprise for me was Saccharin, I suppose it makes sense to sweeten the salve a bit too though?

For me this has been a big hit, and I'm very glad I bought it.

I love the Cherry aroma which lasts for a while after application; I also love the feeling of hydration it has given my chapped lips whilst in my home - and of course it's so tiny it's easily popped-in-a-pocket transportable too!

Lasting 12 months from opening, this ChapStick needs to be stored under 25 degrees as it's an oil-based stick it will melt quite easily if warmed up too much, and to apply all you need to do is screw the stick up from the bottom and then wind down inside its protective covering again once used, easy peasy!

A wonderful solid substance that looks, smells and tastes great if inadvertently licked, it has to be a full 5 Dooyoo Stars from me for a product that does exactly what it's designed to do - pleasantly protect lips from cracking, drying or spitting from lack of moisture by providing a thin waxy long lasting barrier from the dry/windy elements or even central heating in winter.

Lovely stuff...wish I'd bought two now though, *Drat*!
