“ Brand: Chit Chat / Type: Eyeliners / Texture: Gel / Suitable for: Eye „
This is a review of Chit Chat gel eyeliner which I have in the shade of black. I had been reading a lot of opinions regarding gel eyeliner online and was intrigued to find out which camp I would fall into as it seemed to be a very 'marmite' love it or hate it product.
First time gel user
My little pot of gel eyeliner came with a short brush to aid application and I was keen to use it, so I immediately had a go one evening with some make up remover ready to hand should it all go wrong.
The gel eye liner comes in a cute little black pot with a screw top. The lid is clear so you can see the colour through it. It also came with a cheap little brush that I used to trial this product. The brush was quite hard in texture (which is appropriate) with a small handle.
What is it like?
In the pot, the gel is solid, and has a sort of waxy consistency. If I rub my finger into it I have to press quite hard to remove the product and it does smudge quite easily on the skin.
I swept the brush across the top of the pot and it picked up plenty of product. The wedge shape of the brush made it easy to get the shape of eye liner above the eye that I wanted. Once on the eye it seemed to me to look really harsh although I often wear black eye liner. I used a cotton bud to blend it a little and this just seemed to make it bigger and worse and in the end I had to immediately take off the product as I looked ridiculous with it on.
I paid one pound for this gel eyeliner from Poundland so perhaps a more expensive brand would sit better on the skin and look nicer.
Maybe black gel eyeliner is too bold for my colouring and I have to admit I tend to go more for the natural look these days when it comes to make up. I think this can be quite messy and will stick to the liquid eyeliner or dampened down eye shadow in the future to finish my look. I don't always wear eye liner, I often just use it for evenings but this really did take my breath away when I looked at my attempt. I uttered "oh my goodness" before removing but thankfully it all came off quite easily.
I think I have wasted a pound on this product really as it's not one I'll be returning to. I am glad I tried it though and have probably saved myself a fortune in the long run before I dived straight in! People who like very dramatic eyes and have a steady hand will probably love this product, it's just not for me unfortunately.
