I asked for this Christian Dior eyeshadow palette for Christmas last year from my fiancé. I got it in 804 'Extase Pinks' from Debenhams for £35.00.
The palettes come in a variety of different colours and are available from larger Boots stores and most department stores for between £35.00 and £42.00.
~ Packaging ~
The eyeshadow palette comes in a black card box with, 'CD' in a metallic blue colour. It has 'Dior' in silver and lots of writing in French. '5 Couleurs' is in large silver lettering and it also says 'Couture colour eyeshadow palette'
Inside the box the palette comes in a black velvet cover with 'CD' on the front.
Getting to the palette itself, it is made of black plastic with the giant metallic blue letters, 'CD' sort of underneath the plastic and the word, 'Dior' is imprinted in silver in smaller letters across the front of the compact.
To open the compact there is a little button on the front edge of the compact to press to release the hinged lid. The lid contains a large mirror, which is really handy.
The compact contains 5 eyeshadows - in the middle is a light pink eye colour with, 'CD' imprinted in it. The surround eyeshadows are pentagon shaped. They would have been square if they hadn't had to make way for the 5th eyeshadow in the centre. (See picture).
The other 4 eyeshadow colours are a deep, bright pink, a dark silver, a deep purple and a light silver. They are all really shimmery.
Down the sides of the eyeshadows are double ended sponge applicators with 'Dior' imprinted onto them.
~ Use ~
I find that the eyeshadows are quite easy to apply, but they are not the easiest to transfer and they are a little messy with quite a bit of sparkly fallout. I find it is easier to apply with my own brush, rather than the sponge tip applicators that come with the palette.
I find the amount of shimmer in this eyeshadow quite surprising. I would have expected and I think I would have preferred something a bit more subtle from Dior eyeshadows. It is almost glittery.
The look achieved by this palette is very shimmery. I think the light pink and the light silver colours are the easiest of the 5 colours to get away with wearing on a daily basis. I think the deep purple eyeshadow is one that would be better suited to going out.
The eyeshadows are not the best quality eyeshadows I have used, although they are probably the most expensive. I find that MAC eyeshadows are more pigmented, making the transfer of the colours a lot easier.
The colours do look good together, but they don't blend too easily due to them not being as pigmented as they perhaps could be. The colours in my palette complement each other nicely.
The eyeshadow is easy to remove along with all of the shimmer in it.
~ Overall ~
Overall, I think this eyeshadow palette is pretty average. I think the packaging is lovely - very neat and it suggests good quality. The mirror is large and is a handy extra, but the eyeshadows themselves are not pigmented enough and there is a lot of glittery fallout (personally I can't stand seeing fallout on people's faces - I think it looks terrible). I don't think the palette is worth £35.00.
I would not rule out buying another Dior 5 eyeshadow palette, but I would try to be sure before I buy next time as I believe that not all of their shadows have so much glitter in them and can be so difficult to transfer the colours onto your skin. They are made in many different colours so there'd be something for everyone supposing you did want to purchase one.
I am a huge fan of Dior's eye shadow palettes/quads. The come in a beautiful range of shades that always complement eachother perfectly, blend like butter and last ages. I've had the pleasure of owning quite a few Dior quads which have never dissapointed. This review is about a particular palette; 030 Incognito which is the one out of the four that I own that I use the most.
I think Dior's Incognito is the only eye shadow palette I've ever repurchased. It's a palette of five neutral shades that are all pretty usable (it doesn't really have that one dodgy colour that seems to get left untouched) and it's been my everyday, natural look palette for a couple of years. The shades that look a bit boring in the pan blend together perfectly to give a polished daytime look or they can be used a bit heavier to create a more dramatic look.
The pale beige in the top right hand corner is perfect for highlighting because it's not too stark, doesn't look chalky and has hardly any shimmer, I'm not a fan of the glittery/frosty brow bone look.
The taupe in the bottom right corner is great as a wash of colour over the lid, again it has hardly any shimmer in it and looks really subtle.
The brown in the bottom left corner which is the darkest shade in the palette is perfect as a crease or outer v shade but I sometimes use it as a an all over wash of colour which works really well.
The champagne in the top right corner is the shade I use the least, it works well on the inner corner of eyes or as a highlighter but there are two to choose from in the palette and I always seem to go for the paler colour.
The middle shade which is a peachy pink colour is the only shadow in the quint that is completely matte and I have to say, I don't reach for this one much either. I sometimes use it as an all over lid colour but find it works better with other eye shadows rather than the ones in the palette.
As with most of Dior's products, the quality is great, the shadows are easy to apply, blend well and stay put. If you're looking for an everyday, natural eye palette it's definitely worth checking this one out.
I get spoilt at Christmas and the future in-laws this time around treated me to a few bits I would never had expected. One of which was a fantastic Dior eye shadow 5 colours kit.
My kit has a white highlighter in the centre, dark khaki, deep plum, silver grey and a midnight blue. All are sparkly, not in a glittery way but much finer.
It came in a box and a little velvet pouch to keep it all protected. There is a mirror in the lid and two sponge applicators to apply the shadow with.
I tend to just opt for cheap makeup and this is the first Dior product I have ever used and I can honestly say that I am not disappointed. The shadows go really well with each other and blend better than any others I have used. The night time smokey looks I can create are fantastic. The shadow is very light and goes on really easily. It lasts well and is easy to remove.
Do I think this is worth the hefty price tag? No, I am not sure that it is. Yes it is a little better than the cheaper alternatives out there but I would rather buy three things for the same price. Sorry.
If you can afford it or want to treat yourself then go for it, it is good!
I love Dior as a brand! I think it captures the luxuary which you need in a designer brand.
I purchased this 5 shadow last year in the Christmas sales and I am still using it a year down the line. Each palette consists of 5 complimentary shades that look good together to create a beautiful and flawless colour on your lids. It has 2 double sided applicator brushes and a mirror and when you open it for the first time it has a plastic cover over the shadows to prevent the mirror from getting dusty with the residue. The middle Shadow haw Dior written on it.
The colours are designed to glide over different parts of the eye lids, and within the compact package it comes with, there are instructions on how to use it and give you guidance on which part of the eyes to use which colour, but obviously this is just to help you, as you can use the shades as you like.
I found the shadow to be quite dusty and powdery and I tend to wear on top of a base shadow, as this makes the Dior powder shadow stay on longer. I also don't use the applicator brush that it comes with as I don't find it gives great coverage. I use a slanted make up brush.
Overall I love this eye shadow it's great for a relaxed day look, or apply several layers for that evening look.
The list of shades in comes in:
Christian Dior Eyeshadow looks like a gem amongst all of the other eyeshadows at the make-up counter. The packaging is immaculate: A sleek black square shaped outer casing with the words Dior engraved in gold letters in the middle. A gold plated release button enables you to open the lid.
And what a pretty sight once that lid is opened! Another square compartmentalised into five parts containing the eye shadow takes centre stage with applicators on either side. The lid itself holds what is, by eyeshadow standards, a fairly large mirror. Diors' aim is to hold complimentary colours in its palette to ensure agreeable colour schemes to choose from.
If you can easily afford to pay for this pricey eyeshadow, what comes as a result of this purchase is a fairly good buy. Ergonomically it is sound: Compatible with the hands and easy to use. It is not small enough to slip out of your hands and onto a dirty floor on a night out and in addition, the mirror is large enough to use to conduct your whole beauty regime from Cleansing, toning and moisturising to applying a whole face of make-up.
I have the pastel coloured palette and the colours are stunning. The complimenting colours make for easy experimentation without the risk of a disaster and the shadow glides onto the eye easily. My one concern with this eyeshadow however is that I find that it doesn't last very long on my eyelids. I often find the colour wearing right down from the socket of my eye to just above my eyelashes within just a couple of hours or less after application. That said there are make-up techniques to reduce this from happening such as powdering first, however I am not an extensive wearer of make-up and these techniques are lost on me so I do wish that it had more durability.
Criticisms aside I will confess that I have a guilty pleasure in owning this luxuriously packaged make-up item which sits like a sparkling jewel amongst the rest of my collection. With Christmas coming up I would consider it to be a suitable gift depending on your budget. It's size would dictate that it would be considered a supplementary gift i.e. for a stocking, however the price suggests that it could and would for many be the main prize gift. Both are viable options however it would possibly more fitting to buy as a gift for oneself as a indulgent treat.
I was given a small sample version of the 5 colour Christian Dior eyeshadow in the shade 'incognitio' and I've never looked back. This is a very expensive eye shadow which can be very off putting, however it lasts for ages and you get plenty eyes shadow. The compact comes with an instruction leaflet explaining how best to apply the different colours. I can honestly say all the colours are lovely. Usually when I buy eye shadows with multiple colours I only end up using a few of them and the darker colours remain untouched (making me feel like I'm not getting my moneys worth), however I use all the colours in this compact. I also wear contact lens on a daily basis and have never had any problems with irritation. The colour lasts all day and doesn't stain your eye lids like some eye shadows. I would definitely recomment this compact and don't be put off by the price, its well worth investing in.
I have purchased a few of these cute dior eyeshadow sets now as I am addicted to the packaging they come in! These eyeshadows come in a cute compact box (however not so compact that you dont actually get much eyeshadow) With two double ended applicator brushes and a mirror. The eyeshadows obviously get quite dusty so if you want to preserve the mirror its important to keep the plastic cover over the eyeshadows that is supplied with the set. Each set comes with five colours which are complimentary to each other. In this way it is much better walue for money than buying the eyeshadows on a solo basis. The eyeshadows are all long lasting and do not rub off overly easily. They are good for sensitive skin and do not smudge. The colours can be as strong as you want them to be, you can layer up the colours to build intensity and really strong looks. I fund the dark sets really good for doing smokey eyes with.
Dior 5 colour eye shadow palettes come in a wide range of colours. Each palette consists of 5 complimentary shades that look beautiful together to create beautiful, colourful and multidimensional looks. Dior has recently launched a new range of 5 colour eye shadow with iridescent glitter and sparkle, ideal for the festive winter months.
These eye shadow palettes include shades of the same colour family or shades that compliment each other when they are combined to create versatile and eye catching looks. Some shadows are matte, frosted or sparkly. You can either use one or two, or all of these colours together, depending what look you are going for.
Each shade in the palette has its purpose; they are designed to go to each specific area of the eye, to create depth and help sculpt and define. The shadows are made of excellent quality, highly pigmented and blendable shades. The colours apply smoothly over the eyelids and gives beautiful colour results. They are never dull or chalky looking.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking for excellent quality eye shadows and it makes matching different shadow colours and finishes much easier, as complimentary shades are already put into palettes together.
