I've been trying really hard to save money recently by buying less expensive beauty products, and seeing how well I was doing, my mam decided to treat me to a few Clarins goodies. Included in the little goodie bag she gave me was this Ever Matte Mineral Powder Foundation. This costs £26.
The packaging is really lovely and makes it a very luxurious product which would make a great gift. It comes with a little red velvet pouch which you can keep it in to stop it getting messed up or scratched, which I think is brilliant. The compact itself is gold, as you can see above. It's very shiny and smooth, and it looks and feels very high quality. It opens by a little clasp which simply clicks open and shut, and there is a mirror in the lid. It comes with a little sponge and a plastic cover to go between the powder and the sponge.
The first thing I noticed when I started using this powder was that it has a lovely fresh floral scent to it, which is nice but I did worry that it might be an issue for my sensitive skin. I quickly found that the sponge that comes with it is really too small to be practical, and I found it applies better with a brush anyway (I use a kabuki brush and buff it onto the skin) as it doesn't give such a flat finish. The powder feels lovely and light on my skin and it does give a natural look.
The first main issue I have with this powder is that it's only available in 4 different shades, and the one I have (which was recommended to my mam who has the exact same skin tone as me) is quite pink and dark for me. It's not overly noticeable, but I don't feel as confident wearing it as when I know my foundation perfectly matches my skin.
The second issue I have with it is that it makes my pores and the creases around my eyes really noticeable, and the further through the day it gets the more it sits in my pores and lines, making them more obvious. I also find that after a couple of hours it starts to feel quite heavy on my skin and I feel like it's clogging my pores. It does stay matte for the first hour or 2 but after that it seems to melt off my skin and it starts looking shiny again.
Overall I'm not really impressed with this foundation, as much as I wanted to love it, it just didn't do it for me. I definitely won't be buying it again.
I have an oily complexion and I hate it when my skin appears greasy and shiny. I use oil free foundations but I also need to use a mattifying powder to keep the skin at bay. I find that the cheaper powders work well but don't last so I took the plunge and bought the Ever Matte Mineral Powder Compact by Clarins.
What does the product do?
The powder promises to keep shine away for hours to leave the skin looking matte and fresh. It contains plant extracts which tighten the pores and therefore reduce the amount of excess oils that are released. It promises to leave the skin looking shine free and to leave you with a velvety smooth complexion. The product can be used on all skin types and it comes in fair different shades which are Opal, Fair, Medium and Dark.
How do you use the product?
I use the product after cleansing, moisturising and applying foundation. You can use the puff which comes with the powder but I find that this doesn't give you such a natural finish. I prefer to use a powder brush. I sweep the brush across the powder and then sweep the powder over my whole face. You can reapply the product as often as necessary.
Packaging and Price
The product looks very expensive and classy, and I am proud to be seen using it in public. It comes contained within a solid gold compact and there is a mirror in the lid to make application on the go easier. There is a flat white sponge included but I don't use this to apply the product. The powder is packed tightly and it has clarins imprinted into it and it moulded into chunks like chocoalte. The packaging is sturdy and it keeps the powder well protected in my handbag. The product doesn't come cheap and it costs around £25 and it can be bought from any department stores with a Clarins stand such as Boots or Debenhams and also from a variety of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product has a light consistency which is quite silky and it comes without a scent. It feels nice when applied to the skin and works with the skin, rather than just resting on top. Using a brush allows you to get a even coverage all over the face and it immediately mattifying the skin. It feels completely comfortable on the skin and it hasn't caused me to develop any blemishes. It makes my skin look healthy and it does keep the oiliness away for quite a few hours. It is easy to reapply when needed. You don't need to use much in order to get the desired effects so although this is an expensive product, it should last quite a long time.
All in all, this is an expensive but good product which helps to keep the skin shine free without making it look dull and lifeless. It is long lasting, light on the skin and easy to apply. I would gladly repurchase this product but I can't see mine running out too soon, even if I was to use it daily.
