What is it?
This is not your regular lipstick from Clarins or from any brand for that matter. It is very unique and I have never seen one like this before. It is a lip balm, lipstick and lip shine in one. It has the lipstick in the middle and the lip balm surrounding it.
What colours do they come in?
They come in a purple which looks quite scary but I can imagine it would look nice. There is also a light candy pink, a bright coral and a deep red. The colours are actually called Crystal Lilac, Crystal Pink, Crystal Coral and Crystal Red. I have the coral one.
Where to purchase and their price...
They were a summer limited edition but they are still widely available online such as on http://www.lifeandlooks.com where I purchased mine. It cost me £13.20 and this website also provides free postage for Clarins items as well as free gift when you purchase two or more items. One tip if you would like specific items in your free gift then contact them via email to find out what freebies they have in stock and you can choose which ones you have. Otherwise they send you a random selection. You usually receive 4 or 5 largish trial size samples such as 15 or 30mls.
It is also available on the Clarins website http://www.clarins.co.uk for £16.50 though.
What is so unique about it is that not only is it a lipstick and lipbalm but it also gives your lips a light glossed appearance which is very pretty for in the summer.
I was expecting it to give just a subtle colour but it can actually give quite a bright colour.
They are 3.5g in size which I expect will last me a very long time, it does not look like my lipstick has gone down much and I have been wearing it solidly for the last month or so.
Clarins have produced this in previous years as a limited edition too but I think they differed just slightly. They have probably updated the formula in it and the colours.
The packaging is so gorgeous and summery. It is in the same shape lipstick container as all of the Clarins lipsticks it is slightly oval shaped. It is silver in colour but has the colour of the lipstick surrounding the bottom and middle of the lipstick case. It is such a unique looking lipstick and whenever I get it out to put it on in front of friends they always want to have a look at it.
How to use it...
If you would like it to be quite subtle just lightly rub it on the lips but if you would like the deeper colour for example a deep coral in my respect then rub it a bit more heavily on the lips and then the colour in the middle comes through.
The one and only downside...
The one downside to this lipstick is if you would like the deeper colour it does not come onto the lips evenly all over. It comes out a little bit all over the place with more colour in some areas than others. So I would recommend then getting a lip brush or your finger and evening it out yourself then it is gorgeous!
But why I love it...
I love having the comfort of a lipbalm but the colour of a lipstick in one. It is so unique and when other brands have tried to do something similar it has never worked in my opinion if they have the balm and lipstick/shine separate but in one so to speak.
The reasoning apparently for Clarins managing to create this unique lip product is due to lipstick waxes that have unique gelled oils which gives it the very unique look as well. Additionally Clarins have added to it ingredients from their Instant Smooth lip range which is a range that gives your lips a very subtle natural look and smoothed and moisturised feel.
I have a coral lip-liner from Clarins which works perfectly with this lipstick and defines my lips more when wearing it.
They are quite long wearing when not eating or drinking I'd say it lasts 4-5 hours then. But if eating and drinking it only lasts about 2 hours. I think this is quite good for a lipstick that is so moisturising.
My lips become flaky very easily probably through dehydration I never drink enough water so this is a great product to keep my lips moisturised and hydrated but also providing me with a lipstick colour and a gloss/sheen appearance. When I say gloss though I mean just a light sheen not a sticky or tacky look. It certainly does not feel like gloss when on, it feels like a very moisturising lipstick with a shine.
Would I recommend you trying one?
Certainly ... I am very tempted myself to look into buying one of the other colours!
I have an absolute addiction to lip balms and glosses and rarely visit town without buying one. My addiction is so bad that I have them stashed all over the place in all my different handbags, the car, every room in the house etc just so that I am never caught short without having one to hand.
The Clarins instant smooth crystal lip balm is one that I bought ages ago when it was a limited edition and I had thought it was no longer available so was excited when I saw a review for it on dooyoo and found out it had been re-released.
First of all the lip balm is expensive at £16.50 and normally this would push it beyond what I am willing to pay for one but because I was so excited and remembered loving it so much the first time round I decided to splash out and keep it as a good one.
It comes in three shades but by far the nicest in my opinion is the crystal coral version which is a gorgeous shimmery orange colour.
The balm comes in a stick just like a lipstick does and the colour is absolutely stunning on the stick but might be scary to some people as it is very bright and shimmery. Don't let this put you off as on the lips the colour transforms and is much more subtle than you would expect from looking at it beforehand and instead only gives a hint of colour.
When you put this on your lips they are immediately hydrated no matter how dry they might be and it just glides on and is probably one of the nicest feeling lip balms that I have ever used. It leaves my lips looking shiny glossy but without any sort of stickiness and feels really light and not heavy in the slightest.
Because of the shininess and the moisturising properties of the balm it leaves my lips looking fabulous and I always feel like they are plumper than before when using it.
It also really does what it promises and smoothe's the lips making the lines disappear and is like photoshop in your pocket for lips.
It really is such a pleasure to use and because the packaging of the balm is so pretty it really does feel luxurious and like a treat. Although I am tempted to use it all the time because of how good it is I am really trying to refrain and only using it when I am going somewhere and want a splash of colour on my lips along with gorgeous shine otherwise I stick to the cheaper balms which I have.
This is one of my favourite lip balms, the whole product oozes quality and this is reflected unfortunately in the whopping £15 price tag that comes with it but it is not that often that I indulge myself (ok in relity I do all the time but that is another matter) and this product produces such excellent results it is worth every penny. I own a fair few different lip balms as I tend to swap them about and this is one of my favourites. The packaging is top quality with a blend of silver and pink colours that work really well. It looks like a normal lipstick father than a balm and you apply it as you would a lipstick.
I have the crystal red shade which is the one pictured above and it is a lovely one as it is a red that is nice and subtle when applied. It is really easy to apply and is very smooth as it glides over my lips, it is not at all sticky and adhers to my lips evenly. It does moisturise my lips as well and it contains Vitamin E. It leaves my lips feeling nice and soft and they look great.
My lips look healthy and well nourished and the lip balm lasts a decent amount of time as well so you are not constantly having to reapply it although don't expect it to last the whole day. It does have a quality feel to this product and it leaves my lips looking great. It helps retain a natural look but one that is improved upon as well.
I would certainly recommend this lip balm as it is a great product.
I love lip balms, they are not just only great for your lips for smoothness and softness, but also great for a primer prior to applying lipsticks and lip glosses for extra shine.
The Clarins Instant smooth crystal Lip Balm smells nice and fruity, I absolutely loved it, on the lips it appears clear, I like to wear this particular lip balm before I go to bed as this is one of the balms which actually stay on for a long while without dissolving into the skin and lips.
The main usage of the balm is day wear, especially at work when you want to look glamorous all day/night long. With little effort the application of the balm will stay on, I like to add my lip stick and then additional lip gloss over top which I know isn't for everyone but I loved it on myself. I like the idea of applying my make up this way for extra shine on my lips ;-)
I'm a bit of a lip balm junkie and I have a number on the go at any one time and currently one of my favourites is this Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm which retails around the £15 and above mark so it is not cheap but the results are so excellent it is well worth the money in my opinion. It looks like any normal lip stick and you apply it in just the same way. I have the crystal red shade which is a lovely shade of red, nice and subtle and not at all vampish. There are a couple of other lighter shades as well to choose from.
It is wonderfully easy to apply and is very smooth in the way it adheres to my lips, it is like you are mositurising your lips. It does contain Vitamin E to add some health to your lips and mine certainly feel nice and soft when I use this balm. They also look well nourished and with a healthy plumpness about them. It leaves them with a nice subtle red tint as well.
When it is applied it has a nice luxurious feel to it and it lasts a long time as well with a minimal need to top it up. I would certainly say that it is worth the money, my lips feel better and look great with this on while at the same time retaining a natural healthy look and without the stickiness of some lip sticks.
I love this balm and would certainly recommend it over a number of cheaper brands which are not as effective.
=== The product ===
This is a lip balm from Clarins. It contains Vitamin E and is designed to feel very light on your lips. It is advertised as keeping your lips looking youthful and nourished.
=== The packaging ===
This comes in a lipstick style casing. The casing is very luxurious and everything about it screams luxury. The casing is a gloriously shiny silver and there is pink detailing to my lip balm, I am not sure if the packaging varies slightly per balm as I did not pick this at a counter but received it in the post with a large order of other items.
=== How to use this ===
Well you apply this much like you would a lipstick and most of the time I apply mine using a Clarins lip liner pencil first, this just helps to ensure that the colour, or lack of in my case, doesn't bleed and spoil the finished look. You simply roll this out, like a lipstick and apply it to your lips. I tend to use a lip brush to ensure that I get a nice even look but this can be applied directly, as is, with ease but I just find this is a little more difficult when I want to use a lip liner pencil also.
=== Where can I buy this & for how much? ===
This can be purchased from numerous Clarins stockists, Clarins counters and various websites. Mine was purchased from feelunique.com for £14.85 as I had some discount codes and free delivery. I believe this is around £16 if purchased from a Clarins counter.
=== Overall opinion ===
I love everything about this balm, it smooths my lips, makes them look kissable and delicious, I particularly like wearing this when I am going for a nude look and want to make it appear that I'm not really wearing any make-up, or very minimal make-up. The shade that I use is the Crystal shade, mostly, which is a very light sheer pink which is ideal for my natural lip colour and just gives the natural look a little something extra really.
This balm is a pleasure to use, it coats my lips wonderfully, almost like a lipstick, without feeling heavy at all. It does not make my lips feel sticky like a lip gloss would and I just feel very confident wearing this for my natural daytime look. My lips look very natural when wearing this and I feel like I am almost make up free yet I don't worry about looking tired or like I haven't put any effort in.
My lips are left feeling wonderfully soft and supple both during and after use and if I have been using this daily for a week or two I feel like I can go days without any sort of lip balm or protection just because of how soft and wonderful my lips feel. I feel like they are naturally looking more plumped up but this is just because of how they feel and probably is not actually a genuine effect from using this.
I really have nothing but high opinion of this product, it gives me soft, supple, kissable lips and fills me with tons of confidence. I find it a little hard to match with one of the Clarins Lip Liner shades and I have now tried a couple before switching to a cheaper brand of liner but that is just one of those things I guess. I love the natural hue to this balm and how well it cares for my lips. I feel like the quality of the skin on my lips has improved vastly and even if I go for a few days without wearing this I am still left feeling like my skin is soft and supple.
Obviously this is quite an extravagant purchase and I would not have purchased this if I did not have some discounts for feelunique.com meaning I saved some money from the advertised £14.85 price. I would happily pay the £16 price tag for this as even with me using it several times a week with the occasional reapplication during the day it is lasting well. I find that this lasts for many hours from when I first apply it but I am generally wearing it during the day when not eating as much or late in the evening when out drinking with friends and I tend to use a straw so maybe that has a positive effect on how long this lasts.
Being a huge make up fan I was delighted when my OH aunt walked through the door with a box of make up and offered it to me, of course I didn't refuse and was soon upstairs rumaging through all the make up, I was shocked to see that most of it was very expensive, Clinique, Dermalogica, Clarins! Estee Lauder..I couldn't wait to try out everything because I know that with some products you really do get what you pay for.
The price of the lipstick is around £16.00 which is quite pricey, but if you have the money its no problem and such a great investment. If you really would like to try it though but its too expensive I would recommend looking around online as it can probably be purchased cheaper.
The lip balm comes in an absolutely stunning little tube, one of the best ones I have ever laid my eyes on.
The tube is so sleek yet simple, it is silver in colour, quite heavy compared to your usual case too.
It has a clear bottom which is pink, and on the very bottom it has a sticker with the shade number on, it also has a clear strip in the middle which has the Clarin's logo on. It has a classic silver lid and I really do admire the way it looks.
The lip balm itself is amazing, it is shaped like a lipstick but its clear! I guess this is because it is a lip balm but its just weird to see it in a lipstick case shaped like a lipstick! It also has the Clarin's logo printed on the actual balm, it looks like hard jelly, it really is something special.
I love the appearance and I think its so unique, I can understand why people would want to buy this product.
Clarins Instant Smooth Lip Balm comes in 3 gorgeous vibrant shades, its not much of a choice but from looking online I can see the colours are quite nice.
There is the shade Crystal Red, which is a lovely bright pillarbox red, there is also a Crystal Coral which looks like a bright neon orange, but I highly doubt it comes out as this.
The shade which I got was simply just Crystal, which I am very happy about as looking on the site it was one which I would of picked myself if I had of had the choice.
So why should anyone buy this lip balm? what is so special about it? well they say the shape and smooth application of the 'classic bullet' makes it very easy and comfortable too apply, the transparency of a gloss, the subtle colour of a sheer lipstick and the comfort of a lip balm.
Well I have to be honest the lipstick is very easy to hold in your hand and also has a slight scent too it which is kind of fruity, and even though you would look at the lip balm and think its quite stiff and wouldn't be easy to get across the lips, its perfect too get across the lips, its a very soft, smooth lip balm and I have come across lots of products which go across my lips amazingly but this one just knocks them out, it really does glide and even if I have dry lips it will smooth it all away and give my lips a tiny hint of colour and a lovely sheen.
The lip balm isn't sticky and doesn't get stuck to other things, you can barely even feel it on your lips yet it is very noticeable look wise, but not in a bad way, in a healthy crystal way.
The lip balm seems to last ages without needing topping up too, I can last with it for about 5 hours on no problems what so ever, but I do love re applying it throughout the day as the look of it on my lips, not to mention the benefits I can feel it giving my lips is fantastic.
Its a luxurious lip balm and the best one I have used, I recommend to any one who can afford it, great for those natural days.
I have a real thing for lip balms i have a rather large collection of them floating around my handbag all cheaper ones than the Clarins instant smooth crystal but i have all different flavours, colours even a coke cola one. I really loved the look of the Clarins instant smooth crystal lip balm when i seen it advertised in store on the counter so much that in a split second i snapped one up had paid for before i realised it was mine and how much i had spent on a lip balm shocker.
Clarins instant smooth crystal lip balm costs £13. They come in three colours, crystal red, crystal and crystal coral. I took the crystal coral because it gives a small hint of pink to the lips instead of being clear. The packaging for the lip balm is a clarins red box. The lip balm is in a lipstick style with a lid and being all silver.
Taking off the lid and twisting the bottom to push the lip balm stick up you can see this amazing see through crystal stick tinted pink. It is slightly pointed at the tip but cut like a crystal nice touch. You apply the lip balm just as you would a lipstick. The only difference is the feel of the product on the lips its lush.
There is no wax in the lip balm making it lighter on the lips, instead it has some oils in it and a lock in moister barrier. It feels nice and smooth, no grease nor does it feel heavy , it smoothly runs over the lip surface and does not need to be dragged. I love the way this feels compared to other lip balms. It leaves a subtle pink tint to my lips making them look nice and healthy.
When my lips are badly chapped i use the Clarins instant smooth crystal lip balm because i get instant relief, not only that but this lip balm heals my lips quickly making them feel hydrated and moisturised. They look good and feel good. I love the design and shade of the lip balm, i feel really posh when my friends ask about the lip balm, the packaging looks amazing too. Needless to say as this is the most expensive lip balm ever , i really look after it and i have a little pouch for it so doesn't get messed up in my handbag.
I highly recommend Clarins instant smooth crystal lip balm.
I got the Crystal Coral version of the Crystal Smooth lipbalms and despite it not being the colour of coral, it is a bright orange colour and smells distinctly like strawberries.
It looks like a very delicious jelly as the balm is translucent, or even a push pop that you buy when you are a kid.
This is a limited edition product for spring/summer by Clarins and has been brought back by popular demand. We all know what it is like to go on holiday and forget our Vaseline as its sitting in your normal day to day handbag at home and all we are left with is the expensive lipstick in our make up bag. Well think again! This lipbalm is in the form of a lipstick! Keep it in your make up bag for holidays as we tend to neglect our lips in the sun and it is easy for them to get dried out and cracked.
Clarins really is impossibly good at their moisturising capabilities across their range. And when applied the balm feels like a sheer lipstick instead of very thick balm and its smoothing. Despite this product not having patroleum which most balms have, the blurb assures me that it has lip conditioning ingredients and says that it has gelled oils and ingredients from other Clarins skincare ranges.
Thankfull this orange coloured balm does not make your lips orange, it just leaves your lips feeling soft as a lipbalm should and does not leave them slippy either.
It costs around £15 which is much more than your average £2 affair but it is just so beautiful and smells divine and is so high end that you won't feel the normal thick slippiness of most lip balms. If you want to treat yourself, get this.
Whenever I'm going on holiday, I do often tend to top up on my toiletries and cosmetics - and on my holiday I went on in May (to Turkey), i did buy a Clarins Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm. I am a big fan of Clarins products as a rule as I think they produce quality and sensitive products that are at generally affordable prices within the higher end range. This cost me £15.00 from Boots which, I admit is fairly expensive for a lip balm, but I did think it looked great and I liked the fact that it came in solid form rather than gloopy gunk!
The unique selling point of this lip gloss is the fact that it does come in a solid lip-stick style form. When you buy it, it looks like a classy lipstick - with a silver metal housing body with a red fringe around the base of the whole tube and the bit where the lipstick comes out. The Clarins name is etched onto the housing itself. It has a pull off and push off lid and is operated by twirling the base clockwise and counter-clockwise to ease the lip gloss in and out. The whole product looks very classy and luxurious and it the type of product I'm proud to have in my make up collection. Because it is typical lipstick size, it fits easily into my handbag when I'm out and about and so can be reapplied when needed.
It is a tinted lip balm which comes in three colours, namely Crystal Coral, Crystal Red and Crystal. I have the Crystal Red colour which is, as the name would suggest, tinted a bright red. When you put it on, the tint is obvious and it was more of a tint than I was expecting - but it is certainly less vibrant than lipstick. Application is trouble free and when it's on my lips it feels really gorgeous. It is smooth and silky and without the stickiness that very often accompanies a lip balm. It keeps my lips well hydrated and in good condition.
This lip balm does have staying power which is better than most balms. It lasts for about 3 hours after I have applied it - and, as I said previously, it keeps my lips in really good kissable condition! I really do recommend it!
I buy too many lip balms. It's partly because I'm so disorganised that I forget to take one out with me, but the main reason is that I'm just a little bit obsessed with them. Take last month, I was standing at the Clarins counter to try and cadge a few samples ('oh, but I emailed Clarins and they told me to come and see you') when suddenly I found myself buying one of their new Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balms. At £16 it's very highly priced, but I feel it's worth it as it does a fantastic job and also gives my lips a touch of colour for those days when I'm going for the more natural look.
Outwardly the lip balm is designed to look like a lipstick, I chose the Crystal Red shade which is packaged in a classy silver tube with red edging. Also available is a Crystal Coral (a vibrant orange/red shade) and Crystal, which is such a sheer pink that it seems a bit pointless even adding pigment to this particular lip balm.
You use it just like a lipstick, which is great news as the colour is strong enough that it would definitely show up if you tried applying it as slapdash as you would a completely clear balm. In fact the red shade I'm using is so vibrant that I have to outline my lips using a lip pencil before applying as if I were using a normal lipstick. This can be a pain if I'm short on time but it's worth doing as the colour can bleed a bit throughout the day otherwise.
The lip balm glides on so beautifully, it's silky smooth and although is slightly waxy feeling it goes on like a cream. It feels very light on my lips and there is no stickiness at any time, it's strange because this lip balm has the feel of a high quality rich lipstick - only without the richness. That's the best way I can describe it and if that's not good enough for you I suggest you buy one yourself to get where I'm coming from!
Calling the colour sheer is pushing it a bit; although I can still see the natural shade of my lips through the balm, the red is too obvious for that classification. I've yet to find a good red lippy that really is sheer enough for me to create the healthy natural look, to me red is not a colour which can be made truly sheer as it's just too strong - at least with this Clarins balm you get a true (pale-ish) red which doesn't look washed out. To me though sheer should equate to 'barely there', which just isn't possible with red tones.
It's Vitamin E that works the magic in the Crystal balm, it makes my lips feel smoother immediately after application and within a few minutes I can feel a definite softening. The small lines (I refuse to call them cracks!) seem to fill out which gives my lips a healthier and better cared for appearance. An excellent aspect to this lip balm is the fact that if I use this regularly it will actually give results that last even when I've swapped to a cheaper brand, it's a good job for Clarins that this is actually such a gorgeous product to use as otherwise I'd just use it as a 'fixer' rather than my regular lip balm.
I rate this highly; it feels like a luxury product, gives me a certain amount of colour on my lips and also keeps them looking healthy and luscious. I have quite full lips so if they are in less than perfect condition it really shows, using this balm gives them the appearance I want and even when used a couple of times a day it'll last for absolutely ages. Knowing the fact that I can make a tube last for more than a couple of months makes me think this isn't such an expensive buy - but then when I put my sensible head on I realise that all lip balms last just about forever so maybe not such a bargain after all!
Oh well, never mind. I love it so will happily spend my money on a replacement when this one has all gone.
I love lips balms and they don't come much prettier or more special than this. The Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm by Clarins is a tantalisingly beautiful balm that comes in the form of a lipstick. Originally a limited edition and back by popular demand, it has been released for the second time and comes as part of the Sunlight Collection.
Its purpose is to give the lips an intense moisturisation, leaving them feeling comfortable and looking healthy and the product is described by Clarins as being as tempting as candy, and I would have to agree.
The product comes in three warm and dazzling shades of summer. Crystal, which is pink, comes out completely clear on the lips while Crystal Red and Crystal Coral come with a subtle hint of colour. After much deliberation, I chose Crystal Red.
How does it work?
The formula contains what Clarins describe as Gelled Oils which enables the balm to glide over the lips and give a long lasting comfort to the lips by locking in the moisture. It is free from wax which means it feels lighter and more natural on the lips than other balms. The oils also fill in the gaps in the lips and make them appear fuller and plumper. Plant extracts are also included to nourish and condition the lips.
How do you use the product?
It is to be applied in the same way as a lip stick and it can be reapplied as often as needed. It can be used underneath lipstick to give it the perfect finish, worn under a gloss or simply worn alone.
Packaging and Price
The balm comes in a heavyweight silver tube with a matching rim of colour at the bottom according to which shade you chose and you twist the tube to access the product.
It is one of the most eye catching lip balms that I've owned and it looks very much to me to like a red Push Pop. It is shiny and you can see straight through it, just like a red lollypop. It has a slanted edge, like a lipstick, for ease of application and Clarins is inscribed on the balm itself.
The product will cost you around £16 to buy, making this a fairly pricey product. It can be bought from larger department stores such as Boots or John Lewis and also from many online websites. The price may vary slightly if you shop around.
Although this product is expensive for a lip balm, it is a very high quality one that is packed full of natural ingredients that you can feel conditioning your lips. It lasts an incredibly long time so it will be ages before it needs to be repurchased.
The best thing about this lip balm is that my lips never get dry because I always want to use it. It looks so classy and expensive that I don't think I've ever managed to use it without my friends asking me what it is and where it's from. It really does look like a modern day push pop. And what's even better it that it smells like one too. The aroma of strawberries is incredibly evident and deliciously sweet making this a perfect balm for summer.
The balm glides onto my lips without dragging them and gives them an instant dose of moisture. In appearance, it's not that noticeable on the lips. Even though I chose Crystal Red which comes with a hint of colour, it really is just a splash of sheer pink on the lips that merely looks like an enhancement of the colour of my own lips.
Despite it promising me the effects of a gloss, I find it just gives a subtle shine to the lips which I prefer anyway. The consistency is in no way tacky and your hair won't stick to your lips when the wind blows. It is light and comfortable enough to wear all day, every day but thick enough to ensure that it is moisturising the lips properly.
It does seem to fill in the lines of the lips but you can see where it has done so if you look really close as the colour looks deeper where it has been filled in. But it's something that probably just you would notice. My lips do look fuller and healthier and they are in a much better condition. When this product is used consistently, my lips never get cracked, chapped, flaky or dry.
All in all, this is an eye catching lip balm that screams quality from the moment you see it. The balm is nourishing, conditioning and gives your lips a seemingly smooth surface. It prevents lips from becoming dehydrated, gives them a subtle splash of colour and coats them with a lovely shine. This is certainly an expensive lip balm but if you wanted to treat yourself, you won't be disappointed with this one!
An iconic lipstick and a technological feat / Gelified oils assure transparency, a smooth glide-on ability and help prevent dry lips / Ceramidone lends Instant Smooth Crystal Lip Balm the comfort of a lip balm / Lips feel so soft / Vitamin E protects the lips from the harmful effects of free radicals / Its sweet fragrance is based on red fruit and vanilla and is already appreciated by many!
