      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Nice mascara but bit pricey

I work with a lady who's daughter works for Clarins in a large department store. Her daughter was hosting a Clarins House Party and I was asked if I would like to go along to have a look ("no obligation to buy", she said). I listened to the Clarins Talk (which did go on for a little while, I must admit) and then finally we got around to look at individual items in the range.

I am always on the look out for the 'perfect' mascara. I have tried so many over the years I have honestly lost count, and goodness knows how much money I must have spent. I already had two fairly new (Max Factor and L'Oreal) mascaras in my make up bag but I was persuaded to buy this Clarins mascara becasue I was told that if I did, I would also receive a free make up bag, a small bottle of Clarins eye make up remover and a trial sized tube of Beuty Flash Balm. Well, how could I resist that?

I checked the tube of mascara beforehand (the one that was being passed around, not the one I was going to buy) and I must admit I wasn't too impressed with the suction on the tube as I pulled out the brush. I did mention this to the host at the time but she assured me that it was just because it had been used as a demonstrator for so long, and that my own mascara would have a better vacuum.

I parted with my cash and I recieved my goods two days later. I was very eager to try out my mascara for the first time and used it the following day. My own tube of mascara is a nice gold coloured, slim looking, rather sophisticated tube but when I opened it and pulled out the brush for the first time I'm afraid I did not experience that satisfying 'plop' I had hoped for. It was more a disppointing splat. Having said that, I could see that there was not a lot of mascara on the brush as I might have expected and it certainly didn't look at all clogged or clumpy.

I stroked the mascara (I bought a black one) onto my eyelashes and I was quite impressed with how well it went on. It did not clog or clump and made my eyelashes look lightly longer and fuller but not as 'natural' perhaps as I woud have hoped. I then applied a second coat and was reasonably pleased with the overall look.

I did find, however, that this mascara does actually take a little longer to dry than I am used to. I had to wait a little while for the first coat to dry before I was able to apply a second coat. Throughtout the whole day this mascara did not flake or smudge or leave me with any trace of 'panda eyes'. Mind you, for £16 I would have expected this! Removing it was easy and straightforward, however, I have to say that it took more moist tissues to remove every last trace than it normally would. When I use my usual mascara I go through about two tissues per eye, wuth this mascara I used double that amount. Although it came off fairly easily, I could see it was more prone to smudging around my eye area and did not come off quite as 'cleanly' as my Max Factor normally does.

In summing up, however, I am pleased with this mascara overall. The shape of the wand could do with being slightly more tapered towards then end as I find it difficult to get into the corners of my eyes if the mascara wand it too large, but other than that I am fairly pleased.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Recommended for sensitive eyes

I do not use a great deal of mascara but when I do I like to ensure that I use a good quality mascara that will be long lasting and that will look good. I expect to pay a little extra and that is the case with this mascara from Clarins that retails around the £15 mark. One of the things I like about this mascara is the fact that the brush is quite thin at the end which means you can be very accurate both with regards to the placement and the amount of mascara that you apply.

The thin point of the brush also makes it easy to separate out the lashes and lengthen them through the brush strokes as well as adding volume to them. I use the black colour however I do use it sparingly so as not to look too vampish.

I like the way my eye lashes look after using this, they do look thicker and have a bit more length to them however they do not clump together or look overly made up. Whilst you can see the colour in them it is not over done and the overall effect is appealing. It also serves to accentuate the colour of my eyes as well.

The mascara is recommended for those with sensitive eyes as well, not something I have ever had a problem with but good to know none the less. Although it is not cheap it is worth the money in my opinion and is not a purchase you will end up regretting.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A great mascara that works

Unfortunately I have really short stubby  eye lashes and need a mascara that will add length and volume. I have used this mascara a few times and will continue to buy it as it's reliable and does what it says on the box!

Clarins is a great brand for people like me as it is perfect for sensitive skin. Often certain brands of mascara bring me out in rash and make my eyes sting and smart. When I find a product that suits me and it works, I tend to stick to it.

      *Price*

This mascara costs £15 from Clarins counters. There is often great offers on Clarins products if you buy two items or more. When I bought this, I also needed some moisturiser and the sales representative gave me tonnes of free samples.

      *Description*

When I first used this mascara I was quite disappointed with the shape of the wand because it was different to the design of my Clinique one. The brush end is a lot thinner, however after a few goes, I found this much easier to control. The brush separates the lashes and coats each one individually rather than clumping them together. The spider legs look is not sexy! The wand is really good at getting the awkward smaller lashes that sit on the bottom lid and it doesn't end up all over my face!

I buy the mascara in black as I prefer hasher look it gives; black adds much more definition and depth.

The tube is average size for a full version of mascara and lasts just as long as any other I have used. I tend to only need one coat of this and spend more time applying it rather than putting layer after layer on.

      *The verdict*

I'm fairly won over by this mascara and happy to say that the claims it makes are true. It really does help my pathetically short eye lashes look longer and makes them thicker. I like the matt colour o the mascara as it looks natural rather than drying plasticy and with a sheen.

The mascara is perfect for my sensitive eyes and it goes a good job of lasting a full day at work. It does not run or smear and despite staying well on the lashes it is easy to remove at the end of the day.

I usually take my make up off with some make up remover and cotton wool, it comes off with ease and does not cling to the eyes.

      *Overall*

Some would say that 15 pounds is too much to spend on  a mascara, however because I have sensitive skin I have to careful with what brand I use. This one works and does everything I expect of a lengthening mascara. It does not create a false look, but it does make the eye lashes look longer but in a more subtle fashion.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A mascara which does its job but does not irritate my eyes.

At the age of 65 I have had to start wearing a small amount of make-up. I am not a vain woman and could count the times I have worn a 'full face' of make-up on one hand, but after cataract surgery at the beginning of the year I noticed my eyelashes were turning grey, which was making my eyes look so tired that I was starting to feel very concerned about my appearance. My niece, who is a beautician, suggested I get my lashes dyed, but my doctor obviously did not recommend this so I began looking for a high quality mascara which would be suitable for my still rather sensitive eyes.

The Clarins counter was my first port of call as although I find their skin care products to be very hit and miss, I have been impressed with the Clarins make-up range in the past. I ended up with their Lengthening Mascara quite simply as this was being offered as a free gift with another purchase, I thought I may as well buy the other item and thereby end up with two lovely Clarins products for the price of one.

The Lengthening Mascara is suitable for people with sensitive eyes, I explained my situation to the lady who was working on the counter and she actually asked advice from another member of staff before recommending this mascara. I bought the brown shade as I didn't specifically want the product to 'enhance' my eyes, simply to recolour my now awfully pale lashes.

The mascara brush is quite slim and easy to handle even for somebody like myself who has very little experience of eye make-up application. It collects the correct amount of mascara with each dip and this makes it easier to apply than if it picked up either very little or a huge amount of the colour. It's a very glossy brown upon first application but this does settle down after a while and once the mascara has dried properly, which incidentally doesn't take long, it becomes a dusty brown shade. It's a definite brown with no harsh black shades, which suits me perfectly as at my age I do not want to look too 'made up' and this mascara provides colour but without too much impact.

I would say the lengthening claims are negligible, I have fairly stubby eyelashes and I can't say I've noticed much of a difference in their appearance and length since I began using this mascara. They do look 'happier' though, expanding the appearance of my eyes and making me look more awake. The mascara goes on smoothly with no clumping, it also stays in place well without smearing on the skin underneath my eyes. It makes my lashes appear a little thicker, but I suspect this is due to the extra colour rather than any specific volumising effects.

I remove the mascara using a gentle eye make-up remover, also made by Clarins and a very good product for people with sensitive eyes. This takes my mascara off very quickly using just one cotton ball per eye, I ran out of this recently and found warm water would remove the mascara from my lashes too - it just took quite a lot longer!

My eyes have reacted well to the mascara; just like the old 'can't teach an old dog new tricks' saying, I simply cannot get into the habit of applying it every day and tend to wear it only once or twice a week. I have had no soreness or irritation, nor have my eyes watered whilst wearing this mascara.

The Clarins Lengthening Mascara will cost around £15 if bought on its own, knowing this I am rather happy that mine was free although I do not hesitate to recommend it even at full price.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          A great product

I Am a major fan of clarins but due to the price of the products I only really receive them at Christmas' or birthdays or when I need a treat for myself. This mascara was actually given to me as a birthday present. It comes in black brown and blue I always have brown mascara as I find it is more natural looking than hard black or light blue.

The mascara comes in a 8 ml tube and cost around £14 to purchase from their website or from one of their stalls in large department stores. The bottle is like all mascaras a twist of lid with the wand attached to it .The tube is silver and has the brand name written across it in black letters the casing helps achieve the expensive look and the case can stand the bumps and scrapes make up goes through while be carried in your handbag.

The tube itself is a little thinner than my usual mascaras but it has a slight curve to it which makes it easier and comfy to sit in your hand while applying the product. The application wand itself is like a comp the bristles are long and have wide spaces between them and I believe this is what achieves such a high impact effect on the lashes. As the application head has bigger gaps between bristles than most wand it helps separate and pull them through the bristles which creates a longer lash as they are not clumped together it also produces a good full effect.

The mascara lasts all day and when it comes to the end of the day it is still visible that I have used mascara but there is no clumping flaking or any negative effects I find with longer lasting mascaras. There is only need for one sweep of the lashes to create the effect the look I want which is perfect for when I am in a rush.

When it comes to removing it at night it comes off very easily with just a little wipe which I think is great considering the long lasting power that it has I would have thought it would be hard work to get back to my natural lashes but it comes away very easily.

I think this is a great product and with the lack of having to reapply and the ease of application is well worth the money you pay for it. It creates a high effect with minimal effort which is my type of thing definitely a 5 star product.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Not quite what I was expecting

As eyes are usually the first thing someone sees when they look at you, the way your eyelashes look are obviously really important. Naturally, I have the worst eyelashes in the world (slight exaggeration there perhaps...) as they are rather short and straight, so it can be difficult to find a product that will enhance to the extent I'm looking for. Because of this I often resort to using false eyelashes which I don't particularly like as I end up spending half of the day looking in the mirror to make sure they are still in place! This is also true on a night out, when I am seeking a more dramatic look in terms of make up however I find this difficult to achieve without the use of false eyelashes. Therefore I am pretty much always on the look out for a mascara that I can use in combination with others to disguise my short lashes and make them appear elongated.

Having previously bought a number of products from Clarins just before my purchase of this mascara, I had been really impressed and barely flinched when the price on the till came up at little over £14 as this, in comparison, was somewhat cheap when compared with other products I have bought from Clarins! Such a price tag is expected from a premium brand like Clarins who is recognised internationally for the quality of their products and from other brands I have paid up to £25 for a mascara that wasn't much good so when I have experienced good results from a brand I don't mind forking out for their products (as long as they're good!) Prior to this purchase I had bought a mascara from Lancome which I found was amazing, but I thought if I used them together I could create the real edge that I was looking for. If the price is a negative factor for you, I would suggest you wait until Clarins have an offer on, which occurs a few times a year and is something along the lines of when you buy 2 products you get a range of travel size ones for free, allowing you to test other products for free to see if you like them.

The wand of this mascara isn't unlike any other I have used before but it has rather a lot of bristles that I found coat my lashes with the product really well and evenly. The mascara doesn't clump your lashes together which is particularly good as the bristles don't include a mechanism especially for separation and when lashes turn clumpy and stick together it really isn't a nice look. You will find it available in black or brown black from many Boots stores, department stores such as Debenhams or John Lewis, or on the Clarins website direct. If you're looking for a bargain and would prefer not to pay full retail price it might be worth checking out eBay or other discounted beauty websites. On the first use of the product I found it made my eyelashes very wet so I had to wait a little while before I could apply a second coat which wasn't really a problem but I thought they may have dried a little quicker. After allowing it to dry I continued to apply more product in a zig zag sort of action to create maximum volume, however while my lashes did look much darker than normal and not as straight, the increase in length wasn't to the extent I had been expecting, particularly as 'lengthening' is in the name of the product but my lashes did appear slightly thicker and a little fuller than before. When teamed with my Lancome mascara it looked much better, however the results of the mascara by itself were minimal and not particularly noticeable.

I would not recommend this product to those who, like me, are trying to create a lengthy, volumised look as by itself, I found this product was not able to achieve this despite using it a number of times after the first use. However if you prefer a more natural and effortless look I would say this mascara is ideal as that is literally what it creates but for me it just simply didn't do what I was expecting. I did continue to use this mascara day to day when I am seeking a more natural look but, unfortunately I still have to resort to my false eyelashes. 4 Dooyoo stars from me as it is a good product, but it doesn't create the length I had anticipated.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          .

Clarins Products are something that I use now and again. I have used quite a few of the products, and I tend to wait until there is some kind of offer on them as they aren't exactly cheap. I find that they can sometimes do offers like what Clinique is, and you can get a little bagful of trial sized products, which is handy to try before you buy. I got this Mascara in a little trial sized tube, which is a 6ml tube so this gave a good few goes and was handy to pop in your bag and carry about since it was so small.

The tube and wand was just the usual shape. This was probably about half the lenght due to the size of this, but the width seemed to be much the same. The Wand of this looked to be pretty much fulled sized and there is plenty of bristles on this. I was using the Black one, and you can get this in Brown Black as well. Not sure of any other colours.

So when I went to apply this and put this through my lashes I found that the Lashes seemed to be quite wet after just brushing this through the first time. Not overly wet, and it seemed to dry quick enough as well, so you can reapply this to build up colour if needed, but I think 1 coat is enough.

When I looked in the Mirror to see my lashes I could see that my lashes looked to be coated well enough, and they seemed quite seperated and not all clumped together. They looked a Glossy black colour but I can't comment that they look any longer. They do look nice though.

From looking around it seems that this mascara sells for around £14, which is quite expensive, but the normal kind of price for a Designer brand such as this.

A nice Mascara that made my eyes look nice, but I can't say that the Lashes looked all that longer to be honest.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Treat yourself - its good value and does what it promises.

I have been a fan of Clarins make up for some years but have struggled to find a mascara that suits. I have reasonable length eye lashes but they are fair - possibly described as mousey brown - and so I struggled to find a mascara that didn't clog them up but actually highlighted them and framed my eyes properly.

After trying a number of different brands I was given a free sample of Clarins lengthening mascara - and was hooked. In a thin red box, the tube looks - as does most of the Clarins range - both classy and unpreposing. However the devil is in the detail, so they say, and taking the bush from the container you notice that the brushes are small but entirely seperate - with just the right amount of mascara on each brush. Although this is not a cheap masacra - around £13 I believe - it lasts for ages as you only need a small amount to get the effect I was looking for.

This is a real classy product and one that does what it says - it gives the appearance that your eyelashes have been lengthened. Yet I have never known the brushes to be clogged up - something that I cannot say for other brands.

I got married a few months ago and decided to splash out on a new mascara for the big day. I came across it in Debenhams, I assume it comes in a few colours - I only chose the black one as it is the only colour mascara I wear. It comes in a pretty white tube, and cost £13. It is very easy to apply and goes on very nicely. My lashes were the longest I have seen them I have since had comments on friend on how long my lashes are, and they would love lashes like it. It does not clog while going on. So far this is the best mascara I have ever tried and would definately recommend it. You do noy have to put much on either so it lasts that little bit longer
