“ Brand: Clarins / Eye Shadow / Type: Eyeshadows / Subcategory: Eye Colour / Suitable for: Eye / What it does: Smoothes, Protects „
I bought Clarins single eye colour eyeshadow for myself from www.Cheapsmells.com a while back. I bought it in a light pink shade called Lovely Rose (04) and it was just £6.95.
~ Price and availability ~
It is not currently available on www.Cheapsmells.com, but you can buy Clarins single eyeshadow from Boots, Debenhams and most other department stores for around the £15.00 mark.
It is also available online for £14.00 at www.StrawberryNET.com.
~ Packaging ~
The eyeshadow comes in a small silver coloured oval compact, with a window in the front, showing the eyeshadow and the Clarins 'C' underneath the window imprinted into the silver coloured lid. The bottom of the packaging is a transparent red plastic, but when you open the compact the eyeshadow is set in a silver coloured plastic, which is housed in the transparent red casing of the bottom of the compact. It opens up to reveal half of the oval is the eyeshadow and the other half has a sponge applicator in with a small silver handle with the word 'Clarins' on it.
The bottom of the compact has a small oval silver coloured sticker in the centre, with the name and number of the eye colour shade and it tells you that this eyeshadow is 2.7g and was made in Italy.
~ Use ~
I find that when a make-up product comes with a brush or applicator in the compact I often feel inclined to use it rather than my own make-up brushes for some reason.
This eyeshadow comes with a small sponge applicator. I have also, only recently, tried the eyeshadow using my normal eyeshadow brush.
My Clarins eyeshadow is a light pink colour, but how ever I decide to apply it, I find that it is not very easy to apply and I have to layer it and layer it to create any sort of effect. It appears shimmery on the applicator, but this is not something I can see when transfering it onto my skin.
I have found disappointment in many expensive branded make-up products and this is just another to add to the list.
While I do choose to wear this eyeshadow every so often, I think the effort that is required to achieve the desired look is excessive. My light pink shade is rather subtle so it is an eyeshadow I would tend to choose for going to work or wearing during the day rather than going out in the evening, when you don't mind as much if you do have to put more effort into your look.
~ Overall ~
Overall, I think this eyeshadow is alright, but it is not pigmented enough for you to use it quickly and effectively. It requires time and effort for the colour to be built up and for it to be blended evenly.
I wouldn't rule out buying this eyeshadow again in another colour, (a darker colour may transfer easier, but I still doubt the quality) if it was as cheap as I got it for last time (£6.95), but I would not pay full price for it and I would not recommend it for £15.00 as it really isn't that good.
Clarins is a premium beauty brand.
Clarins offer a range of single eye colours. There are around 15 shades on offer including pink tones, black, purple and greens. These eyeshadows are available in different finishes including pearl, matte and satin. Each shade has its own name including 'Lovely Rose' and 'Totally Black'.
Clarins promise an even, longlasting colour which illuminates the eyes.
Each eyeshadow is presented in a red and silver, mini compact. The eyeshadow shade is visible courtesy of a clear viewing window and there is a label at the base confirming the shade name. A reliable and durable catch holds the compact shut and when opened, reveals a small, sponge applicator.
I love the compact for this eyeshadow. It looks classy and expensive and it is always a bonus to have an applicator provided in the price. This eyeshadow has a 36month shelf life but I would recommend replacing the applicator after 6 months. The compacts are presented in red boxes.
~Price and Availability~
Each eyeshadow compact contains 2.7g of colour. These eyeshadows can be purchased from Clarins counters (Debenhams, John Lewis etc) and online at www.clarins.co.uk. Each eyeshadow retails at £15.00. A few of the rarer shades are available from www.deesetdirect.co.uk reduced to £3.50 which is a considerable saving!
I am a fan of Clarins make up products. I received my eyeshadow single as part of a Clarins promotional set last year so didn't have a choice of shade. I received Shade 8 : Mocha Mousse. Whilst I wouldn't have picked this for myself, it has grown on me. I find the shade choice to be varied but they are quite 'safe' choices - nothing OTT. The shade I own is part of the £3.50 offer.
If one is going to splash out £15.00 for an eyeshadow, then it has to be of an excellent quality. Having dabbled with really cheap eyeshadows (MUA, Collection 2000) and really expensive eyeshadows (Lancome and Dior), I can confirm that this Clarins eyeshadow does verge more towards premium than basic. It has the looks but how well does it perform in reality?
I wear eyeshadow a few times a week to simply complete my make up. I have been told that my eyes are my best feature so I like to dress them up a bit where possible. Mocha Mousse is quite a dark brown shade. The Clarins website doesn't indicate which finish each individual eyeshadow has. I would guess that Mocha Mousse is a matte colour.
The little applicator provided is every bit as stylish as the compact itself. It is small and a little fiddly to grip but does have a soft, durable little brush at the end which is perfect for applying this eyeshadow. This eyeshadow has a smooth consistency and the applicator picks up a decent amount of powder with one, simple sweep across the surface.
I do not use a primer on my eyelids. I simply sweep the brush across my eyelids for instant colour. It is easy enough to build up a stronger colour but I prefer the intensity that two sweeps of powder offers. Mocha Mousse is a gorgeous shade on my eyelids but won't be for everyone. It is a little lighter on my eyelids than in the compact and is a tan/bronze shade. It is the perfect shade to wear if you have a light tan but is also complimentary to paler skin tones as it really highlights the eyes. It looks natural and not over the top.
This eyeshadow feels lightweight and gentle on my eyelids and I have experienced no irritation at all. The finish is really good - there is no mess and the eyeshadow looks velvety smooth on my eyelids with a matte finish. It doesn't crease and it does blend well with other shades to create different effects. This eyeshadow lasts incredibly well. Even after a full day of wear, the colour is still visible. It is easy to wipe off at the end of the day.
Overall, I quite like this eyeshadow and this shade in particular. The overall look achieved is really nice and it can be intensified for evening wear or toned down for wearing during the day. I wouldn't say it is worth £15.00 but one compact is very long lasting as only a tiny sweep is required for noticeable results. I used it occasionally for a more classy look and it barely looks used.
