I don't normally use lipstick and instead prefer to stick to lip salves, however a relative of mine gave me this product when she received it as a freebee when she purchased other Clinique products.
Although this came free, the Clinique almost lipsticks cost approximately £17 for 1.9g which in my opinion is very pricey for any make-up product other than foundation. It comes in 4 different shades which are:
* Spicy honey
* Black honey
* Luscious honey
* Chic honey
I had the black honey shade of this product which is described by Clinique as "deep blackened raisin". The almost lipstick has a balm texture, very similar to applying Vaseline to your lips.
According to Clinique the almost lipstick is a "Glossy, sheer, non-staining lip colour that is soothing to the lips allowing lips to feel moist with a shiny finish". I definitely have to agree with this statement. The almost lipstick is easy to apply, and feels like lip balm meaning your lips feel hydrated, moist and smooth.
Although the shade black honey looks quite dark in the tube, when applied it only provided a subtle colour to the lips, which I really liked. Due to working in a very warm hospital, especially in this weather, my lips become very dry from licking them to keep them hydrated and from the dry air circulating around the hospital. Due to the subtle colour of this product, I was able to wear it at work, and I found it really helped to keep my lips soft and heal the chapped areas.
The lipstick container that the almost lipstick comes in is slimlined with a smooth feel allowing you to hold it with ease. You only need a small amount of product to cover your lips but do due to the balm texture of the product, you need to re-apply it more frequently than conventional lipsticks.
The almost lipstick can be purchased from the Clinique website or from many department stores including Debenhams and John Lewis.
I would definitely recommend the almost lipstick, it is a real treat for my lips. The only downside for me would be the price tag attached to it. As a student, I'm not sure I could warrant paying that price, even though it is worth it.
I've been a big fan of Clinique's range of products for quite some time and their lipstick formulations are among my favourite's. I tend to stick with their Buttershine range as there is a beautiful selection of fairly natural looking shades on offer, and the balm type formula feels wonderfully light and moisturising. However, after seeing the brand's promo pictures for their 2011 Black Honey Fall collection, I decided to give their Almost Lipstick another go.
The Fall collection consisted of a range of berry and violet shades inspired by the cult classic colour, Black honey, and among the pretty products on offer was a limited edition version of their Almost Lipstick. The difference between the original and the one I'm reviewing, is the Fall version is dual ended and contains a gloss as well as the lipstick. However, since this will be posted under the regular lipstick category, I'll stick to reviewing just the lipstick end of the product, which is part of the brand's permanent collection.
About the Product
Clinique's Almost Lipstick is described as a sheer, non-staining lipstick formula, which delivers a hint of colour and allows the wearers natural lip hue to come through, creating a custom-fit shade that is unique to the wearer. Until recently, only a small range of shades were available in the formulation, including the iconic shade, Black Honey. The colour was originally created in gloss form back in 1971 and was hugely popular and quickly developed a cult following. Clinique then released their lipstick version in the '90s, which became even more popular with fans of the universally flattering shade.
For Spring 2012, Clinique have finally decided to extend their range of rather limited colours, and are introducing seven new, flattering shades in the Almost Lipstick range, all of which offer a sheer colour pay-off and a natural finish. I've yet to see swatches of any of the colours, but they do look incredibly pretty in the promotional pictures I've seen!
Where to buy/price
Clinique Almost Lipstick is available from the Clinique website where it's priced at £16.00 for a 1.9g tube of product. It's also available from almost all of the department store's sites as well as garden pharmacy (gardenpharmacy.co.uk), where you can currently choose from a selection of free samples when you order anything from the Clinique range. The limited edition version is no longer available, but can still be found on ebay where it's often slightly cheaper than the £17.50 I paid for mine.
The lipstick and gloss duo was packaged in Clnique's standard, pastel toned box, which contains all necessary ingredient info and a company address and website details. As I mentioned above, the version of the lipstick I purchased is different to the original as it's dual ended, so the packaging is different too. On one end of the product there's a glosswear version of the shade, and the original, Almost lipstick version can be found at the other end. The tube is actually slightly thicker than the standard Almost Lipstick tube and is made from shiny, silver metal instead of the regular matt grey. The lid is also slightly smaller and stumpier, but the lipstick housed inside is exactly the same shape and size.
I have to say, the slightly more detailed packaging was one of the things which actually persuaded me to try the Almost Lipstick formula again. As I already said, I am a big fan of Clinique's formulations, but I've never found their packaging particularly pretty, especially compared to other luxury brands of a similar price. Having said that, I do find the brand's packaging to be both well made and easy to use, and the brushes/applicators which are included with most Clinique products are a nice little added touch.
Black Honey actually looks slightly scary in the tube. In fact, it looks like a very dark eggplant bordering on black shade, but becomes more of a subtle, sheer berry colour once it's applied. The whole idea of the Almost lipstick formula, is that the shades look slightly different on everyone as the wearers natural lip colour is still allowed to show through. I have fairly pigmented lips and on me, Black Honey leaves a very sheer hint of colour similar to that of a crushed blackberry, but with less red/purple tones and a little bit of brown thrown into the mix. The result really is very natural and the shade works well at enhancing my natural lip tone with a barely there layer of subtle colour.
The formula is soft and applies well without any tugging and with little effort. The texture reminds me of that of a lip balm and has absolutely no sticky or tacky feel once it's applied. I imagine the light weight texture would appeal to those of you who don't generally like the feel of lipsticks or glosses as Almost Lipstick is very similar to a tinted balm. The formulation is described as mositurising, and while it does add a small amount of moisture to my lips, the formula certainly isn't the most hydrating I've tried (Chanel's Rouge Coco Shines wins that prize!). I don't find it to be drying though and considering it's a sheer lip colour, I find lasting power to be pretty good. I'd say I get a good three hours wear before I need to reapply, and the colour wears and fades evenly.
Definitely! The pretty 'my lips but better' shade is perfect for creating an incredibly natural 'no make up' look and the balm like, light weight formula feels lovely. If you're generally not a fan of lip products but want something which adds a little bit of colour and feels almost like you're wearing nothing, I highly recommend checking these out. Even if Black Honey doesn't appeal to you, one of the seven, newly released shades in the range might.
It's also worth mentioning that the Almost Lipstick formula is allergy tested, 100% fragrance free and dermatologist tested, too.
I am not one of those people who can get away with lipsticks but because I like to use lots of make up on every other part of my face then I have to do something with my lips because otherwise they just look funny.
I have a variety of lovely glosses and balm that already add some colour to my lips which being overpowering but I am always on the look out for different colours and types of products to use, simply because I am a cosmetics fiend.
I think it was obvious from the start that I would like this product as soon as I heard the name. Almost Lipstick by Clinique is just like its name suggests. It's almost lipstick but not quite which is just what I needed.
The product is designed to give a sheer covering of colour that leaves the lips with a glossy shine and a deep moisturisation. It also contains SPF 15 so it will protect the lips from sun damage and keeps them looking younger for longer.
How does it work?
The product contains Castor Oil which penetrates the lips deeply to give it an intense moisturisation. The substance helps to soften the lips while healing any chapped skin or dryness that may have occurred. It also contains fatty acids which are essential for the healthy development of skin cells which enables your lips to look healthy and fuller.
Also included is Candelilia Wax which helps to draw moisture into the lips and then forms a barrier in order to keep it there. The substance is frequently included in glosses and lipsticks as it increases their staying power and keeps the product looking good for longer.
The Carnauba Wax which is present comes from the leaves of a Brazilian Tree and the substance serves much the same purpose as the Candelilia Wax. It is highly moisturising and it enables the lips to retain this moisture which prevents them from becoming dry and chapped.
The product comes in classy packaging with the lipstick being encased within a slim silver coloured tube which needs to be twisted in order to access the product. It costs around £15 which is on par with other brands such as Clarins and Benefit. It can be bought from large department stores such as Boots and also from many online websites so if you shop around then you may find it for cheaper.
I chose to buy Black Honey, which when you look at it in the tube looks so daring and far removed from what I would normally go for but as I was assured the colour would be sheer, I decided to take the plunge and I am so glad that I did.
It is a gorgeous rich colour that remains subtle and looks like I have applied a liquid product rather than this solid lipstick. The colour can be built slightly to achieve a darker colour but even then, it's still subtle enough for my needs. The lipstick has no substantial fragrance or taste so it feels very natural when you use it.
The product is easy to carry around with you so it can be reapplied at your convenience during the day. That said, you won't need to do that too often because the product has great staying power even after eating and drinking. And this in turn means that the product will last longer because you need to use it less.
The lipstick has a beautiful and silky texture that glides effortlessly over the lips and leaves them feeling hydrating and nourished. It is not sticky on the lips, despite looking like it might be and it feels entirely luxurious. The amount of colour that this product adds to the lips is perfect for daytime wear but it may not be enough to satisfy some people's night time make up needs.
All in all, this is an absolutely gorgeous product for those who need some colour on their lips but without having to go the whole hog with lipstick. The colour is rich but subtle and has great staying power on the lips. My lips feel moisturised while wearing this product and they never feel dry and uncomfortable. I can't fault this product so it's getting the full five stars from me.
I would have to say this is my favourite lipstick.
First of all the lipstick is slimline and easily fits in to any handbag (however can easliy be lost and at this price you don't want to do that - like i have done twice now!)
The lipstick comes in a range of colours - I have tried Almost Blush which is a very natural colour and I have tried a darker colour (name escapes me) and i preferred this one as it did provide more colour to your lips. There is a colour to suit all and in my experience these lipsticks are not overpowering, which is great for someone with pale skin like me.
The texture of the lipstick is by far the best i have ever come across. The lipsticks go on wonderfully smooth and make your lips feel lovely and soft. A lipstick you could use for every day use (well apart from the price).
I would say the only raw backs are a. the price at around £15 a lipstick and you do need to re-apply, it doesn't have great lasting technology.
Overall though I would recommened this lipstick for special occasions or if you have spare money to spend!
I normally steer away from any type of lipstick, and tend to stick to the glosses and balms because I generally go for a natural look and don't take too much time on my makeup in the mornings. I bought this after a recommendation from a friend, and as her lips always look gorgeous, I thought i'd give it a go.
Clinique 'Almost Lipsick' is fairly expensive compared to the other products I would usually buy at around £13- £15 for a tube, but I do think its worth the money. Im not really sure how many colours are available, as the most popular one definitley seems to be 'Black Honey', which is what I bought. I was a bit worried at first as the name sounds like a very dark colour and it actually does look pretty dark as you take the lid off, but its pretty misleading compared to the colour that comes out on your lips. The container is nice looking, silver and very streamlined so it would easily slip into your makeup bag.
The lipstick glides on to your lips really easily, and you dont need much to get a nice colour and full coverage. The name 'Almost Lipstick' describes the product perfectly - its more like a coloured balm in a way, and makes your lips feel very moisturised straight away. The colour is a really lovely rosy brown and is so flattering, I think it would suit anyone. It looks very natural and not too much like a thick lipstick, which is exactly what I wanted. Its very sheer looking without being glittery - a really nice effect!
The one downside to this product is that the effect isnt really that long lasting - you would need to reapply every 2 hours or so, as the balmy feeling wears off. But, as i said, you don't need much so this doesnt necessarily mean that the tube won't last a long time - I've had mine around 3 months and its still got a bit of use in it despite frequent use.
Overall, i'd say this a really good product for those who are lipstick virgins like myself - a nice gentle introduction to the world of lipsticks!
