Please note that the image displayed above is incorrect, as whilst this category is for the Colour Surge Lipstick, Dooyoo's image shows the Moisture Surge. However, the packaging of Colour Surge is as equally attractive and offers a designer appearance.
I am very particular when it comes to my make-up and will rarely try out different brands with the majority of my products belonging to Boots No 7. However, my sister who is a big fan of Clinique frequently receives free gifts and earlier this year she handed me one of their Colour Surge Lipsticks with this review discussing my experience with using.
The lipstick, which is similar in size to any other brand with its weight of 4g, offers a designer and luxurious appearance with its shiny silver ridged packaging, which initial gives the impression of a chrome finish as opposed to plastic. The claim is that the lipstick is long lasting due to its revolutionary gel formula and as a result it will offer a glossy finish whilst moisturising the lips leaving them feeling luxuriously smooth.
The lid is firmly attached to the base section and a slight tug is required to remove where it clicks securely into place when not in use. The shade my sister gave me was Heatwave, which is an orange/red colour, which I believed would offer an eye-catching contrast against my pale complexion. However, it seems that this colour has since been continued. The end of the lipstick offers a good shape for application although I am useless at retaining the perfect shape with my lipsticks generally wearing into a point due to continuously using the one side.
In order to retain the colour of my lipsticks for as long as possible and to prepare a good base, I always apply a light covering of mousse foundation to my lips and gently blot with a little pressed face powder. Applying the lipstick is effortless, as it perfectly glides along the contours of my lips and into the cupids bow area whilst delivering a good coverage. I would totally agree with Clinique's claim of this being a moisturising gel formula as unlike some brands I've used in the past, which can be a little drying, the lipstick felt extremely comfortable whilst resting on the surface of my lips. Appearance wise, the lipstick offers a good level of colour with a sexy glossy shine.
I'm not a fan of lip liners despite my regular use of them years ago, which was solely due to my choice of lipstick at that time causing a feathering effect. However, I cannot speak of any such issues whilst wearing Colour Surge, as it remains perfectly in place throughout the day with only one top up application being required after eating my lunch. Over the last couple of months I've tried two other brands of lipstick; both of which were far too creamy and as a result, felt heavy and sticky, which subsequently caused them to melt away without a short period of time.
It is evident that Clinique have used high quality ingredients to create such a good lipstick that offers superb staying power although I am able to confirm that the colour is easy to remove with a piece of cotton wool and a blob of baby lotion. I am more than happy with this lipstick and the fact that there are a huge range of colours from which to choose. I was surprised at its price tag of £11.74, particularly when making a comparison with Boots No 7 Moisture Surge, which is £9.50, as I had anticipated it to be far more expensive. Due to the reasons discussed above, I feel a five star rating to be appropriate.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
I have this Clinique Colour Surge Lipstick in 02 Bronze Star.
~ Price and availability ~
This product is available to buy at Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis and most other department stores and it is priced at around £12.00.
It is available in a wide range of colours.
~ Appearance ~
My Clinique Colour Surge lipstick comes in a very light green coloured stick with a silver band around the middle separating the stick from the lid. The lid has the Clinique 'C' embossed onto the top of the lid.
The bottom of the lipstick has a round sticker on with the name of the lipstick, the name and number of the shade and the Clinique address. It also tells you that this product was made in USA.
The lipstick itself twists up easily to reveal just over 1 inch of lipstick. It looks like you get a little bit more than in your average lipstick which is a little bit smaller and I'd say this lipstick is just as wide as any other. The lipstick has an angled edge for ease of application.
I think the packaging has now been changed to a silver coloured stick as this light green colour is not very appealing.
~ Use ~
My lipstick is called Bronze Star and it is a dark shimmery bronze colour.
The lipstick goes on very smoothly and feels moisturising while it is being applied. It gives my lips a darker colour and also has a shimmery effect. It is really easy to apply and glides over my lips.
The first thing I noticed after applying this lipstick was how much it feels like you're not wearing any lipstick at all. It doesn't feel any different. For me, this is a really big thing as I find it really irritating when you apply lipstick or lip gloss and you are constantly aware of the product on your lips.
Even by looking at the lipstick in it's packaging you can tell it is good quality. It is a shiny stick and it looks as though it is going to feel really moisturising, but it doesn't feel moisturising once applied, it doesn't feel present, yet you have the look that you set out to achieve.
I really like this lipstick and have never experienced results as good with any other lipstick.
It appears very reflective on my lips and it has a shimmer to it, but you can't feel any tiny shimmery particles on your lips like you can with some lipsticks.
I have found this lipstick to be long lasting and it can still be evident around 5 hours after application. Like all lipsticks I have used, it does need to be topped up or reapplied if you are eating or drinking.
The lipstick doesn't smudge or bleed onto my skin, while I am wearing it. It is everything I want in a lipstick.
I would definitely buy this lipstick again. It is easy to apply, looks great, feels natural and is long lasting. There's not much more I could ask for!
