It's usually quite rare for me to wear lipstick, but over the past few months I've added this Clinique Different Lipstick to my daily beauty routine to finish off my make-up look. You can buy Clinique make-up and skin care products from high street beauty stores and department stores as well as online. It costs RRP £16.50 for a 4g tube of this Different lipstick.
Product description: "This creamy lipstick contains emollients for comfortable wear. Lasts without staining with sheer to medium coverage.
+ Coverage: Moderate
+ Benefits: Long Lasting, Sheer"
This lipstick is available in a range of 10 different shades with mainly pink and brown colours to choose from. I have this in the shade "Tenderheart" which is a natural mid-brown shade with warm tones to it. I would say it's similar to toffee but comes out a little darker on my lips which have quite a deep natural pink colour to them. The reason that I've added a lip colour to my everyday make-up is to account for the change in the overall look of my features after I changed my hair colour. I dye my hair all the time and back in October I took the step of moving away from my dark brunette shade (with cool dip dyed ends!) and went wild with the bleach, followed by lots of L'Oreal to get a lovely rich ginger colour all over. This colour does suit me as I have what I think of as "ginger skin" anyway, being very pale with freckles. However, the lighter hair colour makes me look washed out and I like to make my features appear bolder to give a more balanced appearance. The brown tones of this lipstick really suit my new ginger hair and looks complementary, whereas a pink lip would be clashing and a red lip is best saved for a statement evening look.
The lipstick comes in a standard plastic lipstick tube that twists up in the normal way. It has a slanted tip at one side to make it easy to apply and gives a smooth, even application. The texture of the lipstick is very creamy and it feels quite heavy as I spread it onto my lips. I tend to slap on a lot and layer it up to get a full level of colour and coverage, as I want the colour to be noticeable so that it makes my lips stand out more prominently. I have tried using the lipstick on its own and find that it has a tendency to make any slight lines or dry areas very noticeable. This lipstick is not particularly drying in itself, but it does not provide any moisturising effect and so I do feel like my lips dry out when I wear without any other products. This is a shame as I like the nice matte effect that it gives, but with my troublesome skin I need something that offers a more caring touch. Personally I find that the best way to apply this is to use a light slick of lip balm first, and then apply lip liner all over, followed by a good heavy layer of lipstick to achieve its maximum effect. This does however give a more glossy look as the lip balm adds shine to the lipstick and can make the colour turn more sheer without also applying lip liner to get a denser colour.
The biggest down-side to this lipstick it that it wears away after only a few hours. The colour does not have much staying power and it will either transfer onto mugs or wear away when I'm snacking or eating meals. To maintain a good level of colour and keep the lipstick looking fresh I have to reapply it after lunch time, then again on my journey home from work, and then again after my evening meal if I have plans for later on. This is a bit disappointing, and even though the lip liner I use matches in colour quite closely, you can tell that the overall look has faded and the top layer of colour from the lipstick is quite easily removed. Having to reapply so many times does add to the heavy feeling and can make my lips seem like they're drying out even if I don't notice any cracks or flaky skin afterwards, which is why I prefer to use lip balm underneath as a barrier to moisturise my lips and make the lipstick feel more comfortable to wear throughout the day.
Overall, I think that this Different Lipstick is pretty average really. It's a nice enough product and I do love the Tnerderheart colour, but I really need to work at it to get the best results, and I would prefer for it to have some moisturising properties and last longer without needing re-applications through the day. I probably wouldn't purchase again as in my opinion the performance does not warrant the Clinique price tag and it takes a bit too much effort to achieve the look that I want.
I do not buy myself Clinique products as I see them as a luxury and I just cannot afford them but my children do like to spoil me at special occasions and treat me to some. I do really like them, their quality is fantastic, I can see why they are more expensive than other brands.
This lipstick I was bought recently and although I do not wear lipstick very often I do really like this and think it is a good great quality item.
The lipstick comes in a little cardboard box like the majority of Clinique products. I like this, although I tend to just throw the boxes away it does add to that little bit of luxury that I think you get with this product. The lipstick casing itself is very nice looking, far more classy looking than the other lipsticks I have which are from cheaper brands. This casing is silver and so shiny you can see your reflection in it! The outer casing which pulls off has ridges on it so you can get a good grip when lifting it off.
You can buy this in a variety of colours, mine is called 'sun kissed' and is quite a pale browny/red. It is lovely against my skin tone. If you aren't sure which one is right for you then the Clinique ladies at the counters in the stores can advise you. My children bought well with this as the colour is lovely.
When you first use this the lipstick is shaped with a slight point so that you can apply it to your lips easily. Over time this becomes more blunt. I, however, like to use a lipstick brush anyway when applying this so the shape of the lipstick itself isn't a problem.
When applying this I find that a little bit goes a very long way! If I use as much as I would a normal/cheaper brand then I look ridiculous! So less is definitely more with this as it is a good quality lipstick which sits on your lips well. It doesn't just sink into your lips and disappear like some.
I find that this stays on my lips for a good amount of time, yes I do need to reapply it especially if I'm eating and drinking but it definitely doesn't need reapplying as much as other brands which is a good thing considering the price you pay for it!
I really like the effect of this. it does look very nice and I am very pleased with it. It costs around £16 which is extremely expensive for a lipstick but if you have a special occasion comingup then I don't see why you can't treat yourself to something lovely like this! And because a little bit goes a long way it will last a long time!
One night in a bar I was putting my favourite Dior lipstick on when my friend started to admire it, and being a little tipsy, I gave it to her...well, never mind I thought, I'll buy another one - but by that time Dior stopped making this particular shade, so I was left with no option but find another lipstick for everyday use - neutral, natural shade, long lasting, creamy, non-drying...and on e-bay I came across Clinique Different for under £5...
As many e-bay cosmetic items, my lipstick was marked Not for individual resale and had no extra packaging, so I cannot advise on ingredients or what effect it's supposed to have. It also came in light-green lipstick container rather than silver one pictured (I'm not sure is the picture right as I have seen my green packaging in many online stores). I must be honest, I'm a messy person and have all sorts of stuff in my handbag all the time, and therefore I often experience problems with lipstick covers coming off. Even Different doesn't have much different cover from the cheapest lipsticks on the marker (no clip or magnet, you just slide it on), I have no Raspberry Glace smudged inside my handbags, somehow it holds on. I have it for over 6 months now and the cover still didn't break, so I consider it quite durable.
The shade I have is Raspberry Glace which is darker pink colour with a bit of glitter. The lipstick doesn't have any kind of smell, pleasant or not. It gives medium coverage, so the colour is rich but looks still very natural. It's easy to apply, very creamy but doesn't leave feeling of residue, just the soft feeling like after applying the lip balm. Fron long-term point of view, I didn't notice any significant changes to my lips like drying, etc.
As to long-lasting effect, I must say the original effect as when you freshly apply the lipstick doesn't last too long - half and hour max, but only the top "layer" of lipstick wears off and your lips still have a bit of very mild, natural colour. To be honest, I like the colour and feel of my lips after while more than I do just after applying the lipstick.
Overall, it's a good lipstick - not great, but serves its purpose without doubt and doesn't have any major downsides. Still, I cannot believe I actually managed to get a Clinique lipstick for under £5, especially as what I got is of a Clinique quality. 4 stars for me - better than average.
I bought this lipstick because I fancied a change and I have never tried Clinique lippies before. My shade was Glazed Rose, a sheer dark pink colour that was very similar to my natural lip colour, because my lips are quite dark.
~Packaging and Appearance~
Clinique Different Lipstick comes in a silver ribbed tube that is quite attractive and sleek. The lipstick had no scent, and like all Clinique products, it is '100% Fragrance Free'. The packaging was what first caught my eye in the shop and made me check them out.
The lipstick wasn't too different from my natural lip colour - it just made them look fuller and healthier, because the lipstick colour is a little brighter compared to my lips. I was utterly amazed at the staying power -it lasted all day, even when I was eating and drinking, plus the next morning even though I had tried my best to remove it the night before, there was still a bit of faint colour! The lipstick was also quite moistursing too.
This lipstick is priced at £14.50 from John Lewis, and it is definetely worth the money.
A a fan of Clinique products it was only a matter of time till I treated myself to another one of there Lipsticks. Having been disappointed with another one of their lipstick offerings recently I was a little wary but on the whole I have nothing but good things to say about the range normally so off I went with a wad of cash to treat myself and to hopefully reinstate my love affair with Clinique!
The Packaging Of Clinique Different Lipstick....
Silver ribbed tube classic in shape of a conventional lipstick. You twist the the colour up and down and the base tells me the colour. (In my case I now own two lipsticks in shades Tenderheart and Soft Bloom). The lipstick packaging is rather nice and one that you can be proud of whipping out in the public toilets. It's really very classy and the one really positive thing I will give the packaging is it stays nice. I do hate getting my products scratched and looking scuffy, this doesn't!
How Clinique Recommend You Use This Lipstick....
Prepare lips for colour with all about lips. To extend lipstick wear, line and fill in lips with quickliner for lips or lip-shaping pencil, then apply lipstick.
Using It In The Real World....
Apply to lips as you do any other lipstick. The one thing I noticed about the range of colours available is how sheer they all are. All add a hint of soft barely there colour rather than in your face colours and coverage. Of course if you apply and don't blot you get more intense colour than using say a lip brush or blotting but these shades enhance the colour you have on your lips rather than disguise.
The very first thing I noticed when applying this was the smell. Now don't get me wrong it doesn't stink to high heaven or anything but does have a real old fashioned make up smell and the taste isn't particularly pleasant. I'm so used to lipsticks having nice scents or no taste etc that this is quite old fashioned and alien to me and I'm not keen. Now because of the natural colour of this as you'd expect this isn't highly glossy which adds to the whole natural look. However the feel isn't natural. I personally hate it. It isn't really greasy and it isn't dry but it feels heavy although doesn't appear it. Also if you have any dry skin or imperfections on the lips this really does highlight them and I could see I had dry skin on my lips where I hadn't even noticed because the lip colour 'clogged' all over them.
This isn't a long lasting on the lips kind of lipstick at all. I mean you can control it of course by applying and blotting and reapplying and simple tricks of the trade to make it stay about a bit longer, but me I want to apply and go and I can't because I don't like the weird feeling on my lips! You can make the lipstick hold out for an hour or so but put it on in a hurry and it'll leave in a hurry. Long lasting lipstick in the tube though because as a rule you don't need much per application and even by keep reapplying you don't use much as it's so sheer.
This is very much best suited for day time wear in my opinion and it is a classy looking natural lip colour without a doubt but not worth the money to me and I wish I didn't own two but that's impulse buying for you! Will I ever learn? Probably not, no lol
Not recommended unless you test this product out first and don't mind the taste, and smell. If you don't mind them things then yes it is highly recommended and so sheer it can double up as a blusher (which is what I now use mine for!). All the products that Clinique tries to sell along with this product is for a reason, to make it stay put and that works out a hell of a lot of money to pay out just to get some nice colour on your lips and I resent that!
Available in large selection of shades under the heading nudes, tawnies, pinks and violets at about £12.00 per lipstick. Places like Debenham's stock Clinique but do look look online at discount stores for cheaper options!
Each time I need to have a very healthy and natural color in the lips, the color that goes with flushed cheeks and bright eyes, I use Clinique Different Lipstick in Raspberry Glace. This lipstick lasts a lot, is quite permanent and in this particular color, is just perfectly natural. Raspberry Glace have a little bit of silver shine in it (very-very little). Is a deep pink, and if you put one coat and then press a tissue against it (without reapplying) is the most natural color in lipstick you can find: is not brown (neither it have brown tones) like the nudes colors. Is just and simply the natural color of healthy flushed lips, and even when it goes out during the day, it stains the lips so well that enough of it stays so you still gets color in them, and when it fades is does it in a way that is barely noticeable (this one doesn't leave a ring around the lips when it fades, with no color in the center: it fades instead quite evenly). Extremely natural and useful! I'm olive skin and brown hair, but I told several friends about it and they tried it to check if it's really a natural color: a finnish friend (from Finland) with extremely fair skin and blue eyes, and very pale hair and eyebrows, tried it and she was perfect! Just like the color you get after a walk in the snow!! She is a fan now! If you don't remove the excess with a tissue, you get a deeper pink/purple color with the silvery shine more noticeable: I don't use it like that because is a little too dark for me, and I look for a very sheer and natural effect, but some people may love it as well! If you wear lip gloss over it, it becomes absolutely gorgeous: still very natural, and lasts more than any coloured gloss because the color lasts so much under the gloss!! And, of course, for a real "coming from a walk" look that lasts all day: if you use it as blusher as well, you will be delighted! I have always 2
Different Lipstick in this color: one in my bag and one at home! That's the best buy in make up I never did! Something else: not all the Different Lipstick have the same texture and effect!! Raspberry Glace is quite matte, but Angel Red, for example (I wanted to give a try to their reds) is a sheer shiny glossy color, with a texture totally different, and I didn't like it so much!
Clinique's Different lipstick may be one of the best lipsticks that I have ever had the fortune to apply. With a great colour range and fantastic staying power-believe me, it was still mostly there after a night out; to say that I was impressed by this product would be an underestimate. However, that is not to say that there are drawbacks. For one, the price is the to expensive side, but believe me, you are paying for the product. A fantastic lipstick!
