“ Brand: Clinique / Type: Mascara / Suitable for: Eye „
After me finding just how much I loved Clinique through a gift 2 years ago at Christmas I have been a huge fan ever since so when my mascara ran out I knew where to head the Clinique counter. As I searched round I came across this practical little number which cost £13 for a 7 g tube of mascara. It is available in different shades of black and brown I opted for the brown for the more subtle look because of my skin tone.
It comes in a small thin bottle with a screw on lid with the applicator attached like most mascaras. After removing the application wand from the bottle you can see the brush is rather large which makes it a little difficult to add the product to your lashes. Upon practice it gets a little easier but it is near impossible to coat corner or bottom lasher because of the size of the brush.
It does make a noticeable difference when finally applied on my lashes but it does not build any length or thicken the lashes a lot so it is a very natural look especially as I purchased the brown one.Its sat in my handbag for months now and the outer bottle of the mascara still looks good which is great as if I do need to use it in public it does not look 100 years old like some of my make up products after the war they face in my handbag.
The mascara itself does last all day while I'm working and rushing about which is a plus as no need for repeat application. The testing to see if it was waterproof was easy enough on one of the many days that it rains in Scotland I was caught without my umbrella on the way to work and got totally soaked before I made it to the office. Upon inspecting myself in the mirror in the toilets it was noted that my clothes and hair were looking rather terrible but my eyes were perfect both my eye shadow and mascara had staid put no panda eyes witch is brilliant.
This was a little disappointing from Clinique usually there products are perfect and I do nothing but sing their praises unfortunately on this product in theory its an ok product lasts all day and is very waterproof but with the complication on coating the lashes and the extreme natural look it provides I do not think it justifies the price we pay for it. I have actually purchased a different Clinique mascara and this has been put back into the spares pile but not one of my favourites.
I was given this mascara quite a while back from my aunt as she was having a massive clear out on make-up as I am a huge mascara fan - I can't live without it for a start, I accepted the mascara off her.
When I first looked at it it seemed a bit dried up, at first I did not know if my aunt had used it a lot in the past of or not, but it did look like she had only used it about twice or three times, which was OK. But it did make a bit of a mess quite easily even though it was a waterproof mascara, however I was a little disappointed by the brush though as it looked messy or if it had been used before the product was sold. But on the other hand, the good thing about the brush was that it did even the lashes out and gave a fuller, longer, outstanding look, surprise, surprise it was actually quite easy to remove unlike some waterproof mascara which take effort to remove or there is still some left on your eye lashes in the morning and you end up with black underneath your eyes.
Clinique brands are quite expensive and the mascara must had been approx ten pounds, and it is a good pocket/handbag size which is very handy for me and probably for other girls out there!
Overall, I wasn't as keen on this mascara but it did give very good results, so may buy this again, I may not.
I'm quite conservative when it comes to choosing make-up, especially if I've already found a best-product-ever. But when I found myself wandering around a duty free shop at a large international airport - four hours between flights - I forgot that the old friend is often better. My old friend was Dior Diorshow Waterproof Mascara, you can read about it in another review of mine. But it was the time to get to know someone new.
I just walked through the aisles and inspected every make up stand looking for a waterproof mascara in brown. I don't really think I'm asking for too much, but all the big brands seem to disagree. They all have waterproof mascara in black, or deep black, or graphite black, or noir, and that's pretty much it. And of course some of them have brown mascaras too, but not in waterproof formulas... Ok, here's what I managed to find. Lancome L'Extreme in some crazy purple-ish sparkling brown. Chanel with that ugly rubber-jelly brush. My dear old friend Dior. And the Clinique Gentle Waterproof in black/brown. Ok, I thought, Clinique is a brand I trust, and it's almost twice as cheap as Dior, so why not give it a try. Official Clinique website says it's £12.50.
They won't let you try the mascara in-store with the original brush for hygienic reasons, but I believe that the brush is as important as the formula. The Gentle Waterproof has a very bushy brush, so I supposed it would provide even coverage, defenition and separate lashes. Well, it seems that this particular brush is TOO bushy - the mascara just doesn't want to apply! Or maybe it's not the brush, but the formula. It just looks pale! You have to paint your lashes again and again until some colour stays on and is visible.
In terms of waterproof-ness and durability, Gentle Waterproof is not a champion too. Generally there is no smudging, but some flaking is quite likely to happen after several hours. And, let me remind you, when I wore Dior, I could forget about it and rub my eyes, and nothing happened. If you rub your eyes wearing Gentle Waterproof, you can be pretty sure it'll all end up under your eyes.
So, any advantages at all? First of all, it's easier to remove. You still have to use special make-up remover, but it comes off quite easy. Second, I'm quite sure that the formula is great for sensitive eyes. I hardly ever suffer from make-up irritations, but I believe that Clinique, as an expert in non-allergic cosmetics, did it right.
So, for me it didn't work, but will probably work for someone who's up to very subtle, natural look or for someone with sensitive eyes.
As for me, I'll return to Dior or give a try to Estee Lauder Illusionist Waterproof (I used non-waterproof version before and loved it).
