Similar to a lot of people I am a massive fan of Clinique make up, purely for its quality, durability and beautiful effects. Last year I recieved a tester of Clinique high definition lashes and wasn't expecting anything special due to its reasonably low price in comparison to my previous favorite - Benefit's 'They're Real' which is far more pricey.
The mascara comes in a super simple packaging, a black tube with the Clinique logo and nothing else much. The brush is thick with lots of little fibers, just the same as most mascara brushes. I'm not a massive fan of this kind of brush due to the fact that mascara ends up all over the top of the eye lid due to the thickness of the brush. Despite the basic packaging and bog-standard brush, the formula lasts. I find it extremely hard to find a mascara that doesn't run or smudge in hot weather or simple after a full day's wear, but this one certainly lasts. The length of my eyelashes weren't anything particularly special but the fact that it lasts is enough for me.
My eyelashes are naturally quite long and dark so I don't need anything too drastic therefore this is just the perfect mascara for me. I couldn't comment on how well it works for people with blone lashes but I can imagine it'd work just fine, it isn't at all clumpy or sticky, it goes on perfectly. I will definitely be investing in a larger tube of this mascara and replacing my 'They're Real' by Benefit as it's just so expensive!
I am a huge fan of Clinique make up and one of my favourites in this range is their High Definition Lashes Mascara. As with everything else in this range it does not come cheap. At £15 for a standard sized 7g tube, the price may be enough to put some people off, but I can highly recommend this particular mascara as it has excellent staying power and gives me the lash look I am after.
Clinique High Definition Lashes Mascara comes in a small range of colours to choose from, in fact I think there is only black and black / brown, however, this isn't a particular disadvantage as far as I am concerned as I always opt for a black mascara as I have dark eyes and hair and anything lighter than black would probably have little effect in defining my lashes.
The first thing I would have to say about this mascara is the packaging. It is a black plastic tube with the lid in shiny plastic. The lid houses the applicator and wand and the unique looking two-sided brush which I will explain in a little while.
With a lot of mascaras I have used I have found them to be rather thick and glumpy - I am sure you know what I mean when Is ay that there is nothing worse than feeding your mascara wand into the tube, giving it a little pump and the brush comes out absolutely matted and coated in thick clumps of mascara that you just know you don't want to put onto your lashes. Not so with High Definition Lashes Mascara. There is not a clump in sight, even after I have been using the same tube for a couple of months.
I have fairly long lashes anyway but for the daytime at work I prefer to opt for the more natural look when I am at work and I will usually apply just one or maybe two coats. If I am going out at night after work with friends then I will top my mascara up by applying another coat or two on top. These additional applications really do open my eyes up more and do not make my lashes look false or clumped together, just more dramatic really, and I love the look this mascara gives me.
I cannot describe this mascara without explaining to you about the really unique applicator brush which comes with it. It is two sided. What do you mean by that, I hear you ask? Well, let me explain. One side of the brush has tiny little bristles which the mascara clings to and I brush this onto my lashes and once it has dried (which does not take too long at all) I then use the comb side to pull through and separate my lashes, thus giving me a more natural and even lash look. I love it!
I can really feel the difference though when I use the bristle sided part of the brush to apply the mascara to when I then use the comb side to separate my lashes. The comb side tugs more at my lashes as it separates them, though it does not tug enough to pull my lashes out. It is gentle and effective and gives an excellent natural look as my lashes look a much darker colour but look naturally defined rather than looking as though I have just applied my mascara.
I love the fact that the applicator wand is longer than most other mascara wands I have used before. I think the added length really enables me to apply the mascara with a lot more precision and allows me to get right into the corners of my lashes - you know, those tiny little ones that sit right beside the tear ducts or at the outer edges of the top and bottom lids. This really helps to open my eyes up and gives me a wide-awake look, which I love.
In my experience, Clinique High Definition Lashes Mascara is very long lasting. I apply it at approximately 7.30am every morning for work, I generally manage to look in the mirror at least twice a day and if I need to touch up I will, and it lasts me till I get home every evening at about 6.00pm. However, having said that it is rare that I will notice any flecks having fallen off during the day and it does not smudge, despite me looking down a lot during the day as I complete paperwork and talk to customers.
It is easy to remove with simple baby wipes or my Clinique Make Up Remover. A couple of wipes and its all gone - and it doesn't leave me with Panda Eyes. I can heartily recommend this wonderful mascara to you. It won't give you massively longer lashes, but it colours well, its long lasting and has a lovely natural finish.
Clinique is a premium beauty brand which is part of the Estee Lauder company. They offer skincare for men and women as well as perfume and a large selection of makeup.

*Lash Power - long wearing
*Lash Doubling - volumising and thickening
*Naturally Glossy - natural
*Lash Buiding Primer - priming before applying
and then we have the High Definition Lashes Mascara which is of course designed to define the lashes. This mascara offers a special two sided brush with two purposes. One side is a brush which aims to coat your lashes with long lasting colour. The other side is a comb which aims to seperate the lashes. The overall aim of this mascara is to offer length and definition to each lash. This mascara comes in two colours being black and also black/brown.
High Definition Lashes comes housed in a tall and reasonably thick tube. The base containing the mascara makes up 2/3 of the overall size and is black with white writing confirming the name of the mascara. A silver lid screws on top and holds the applicator. The applicator is very long and the brush sits at the end of the wand. The brush part makes up 2/3 of the applicator with the comb squeezing in the other 1/3.
Mascara is designed to be applied to your top and bottom lashes for colour and definition. It is recommended that you use the brush in and sweep it from the base of your lashes to the tip. If you want to define the lashes, continue on and use brush the comb through your coated lashes and allow to dry.
*~*~*Availability and Price*~*~*
The full size mascara is 7g and can be purchased from the Clinique website www.clinique.co.uk for £15.00. Clinique products can also be purchased from stores such as Boots and Debenhams. Mascaras should be discarded after 6months due to hygeine reasons.
My eyes are my best feature and I like to emphasise them and make the most of them. I only ever apply a light wash of colour to my face and lips and make my eyes stand out with eyeliner and mascara. My lashes are naturally quite long but lack any thickness and strength so as with most women, I am on the look out for a mascara which will give me my desired look whilst also be long lasting and affordable.
I buy lots of Clinique on ebay and whilst I normally have the trial sizes in my beauty boxes, I received a full size High Definition Mascara last month and have been using this occasionally as a change from my Chanel one. The packaging is quite plain but pretty and I find the mascara wand easy to hold despite how lengthy it is. I apply my eye makeup in front of a mirror with good light. My mascara is applied as the final part of my makeup and I have the black/brown colour. I normally prefer completely black but am happy with this one too.
*~*~*Sweeping My Lashes With Clinique*~*~*
I was quite baffled by how to apply this mascara when I first opened the tube. I did go online for some tips and followed Cliniques guidelines as I am so used to plain brushes! This was something new for me and I wanted to get it right but it does take some getting used to on my part! It is quite unusual but doesn't resemble some contraption that would look out of place in a torture chamber! The wand is really long but this is a plus for me as I am not bumping the top of the lid into the corner of my eye or my nose when trying to apply.
Pulling the wand out of tube, the brush isn't too thickly coated so I didn't need to pump too much back into the tube and therefore less mess! The brush end contains several little clusters of bristles with small spaces in between each cluster. The bristles hold the mascara well and are the right firmness..not too hard that they will irritate my eyes and not too flimsy that the mascara flops off it. Steadying my arm on a hard surface, I begin to sweep the brush from the root to the tip of my top eyelashes.
The mascara transfers to my lashes very quickly and the colour is instant and appealing. My eyelashes are dark brown and the black/brown colour of this mascara is very dark but not as black as many I have used. The mascara doesn't clump onto my eyelashes but does feel quite heavy at first and rather sticky. I find the brush too long and awkward to apply to my bottom lashes which are quite short. To ensure they aren't left out, I gently close my eyes and allow the wet mascara on my top lashes to coat the bottom lashes. Here I found out that the mascara is very wet and rather sticky causing my lashes to stick together and feel tacky!
I hoped this issue would change when I used the comb part of the brush. The comb is created using small, plasticky bits which sit close together. I can feel the difference between this and the brush part as it is harder and pulls gently at the lashes. I find that the comb works well to extend the apperance of the lashes and the clumps that were initially present, sweep off and are replaced with fairly long and adequately coloured eyelashes. My lashes feel lighter but still feel sticky and even after combing through them, if I close my eyes too tight, the mascara transfers onto my eyelids giving a spotty look!
The colour is above natural but not too strong that it looks heavy or fake. It would be ideal for wearing to work or out shopping but for more dramatic results for going out, I wouldn't recommend this particular mascara. The mascara provides a natural but apparent look and the length of my eyelashes and thickness is sufficient but nothing startling. I could easily acheive the same results with a cheaper mascara.
*~*~*HD All Day Long?*~*~*
High Definition Mascara doesn't last all day and I wouldn't expect it too. It does remain at a natural and noticeable level for around 5-6hours before fading away, It doesn't flake and I have noticed no running when my eyes water. I really don't need it to last any longer but when I do, I can top it up without any problems. If I am only wearing it for a short time, I find it easy to remove with a make up wipe but Clinique of course recommend their make up remover liquid which is quite highly priced.
*~*~*Recommend or Bin It?*~*~*
High Definition Mascara offers a new brush style but the overall effects and nothing different from the likes of No7 ot Maxfactor mascaras and it is more expensive. There is lack of colour choice which will put some people off and the lasting time on the eyes isn't all that impressive. It does give me a natural, everyday look but no matter how many swishes I apply, I cannot get the intense colour I desire for evening wear.
If you can find this cheap then pick it up but I don't think it is worth the hefty price tag Clinique offers it at.
Thanks for reading x
Clinique's High Definition Mascara has been my favourite choice for the past year now. It's even my best friends choice, after i used it on her while doing her make-up; she went and bought it too! (Yes, i know it's terrible to 'share' mascara incase you spread eye infections, etc..)
Anyway, i found the 'comb/brush' duo to be a great idea; i used the comb first to indivdually coat my lashes, then the brush to add volume - it definitely works for me!
I'm blessed with natural long eyelashes, and often get asked if i'm wearing false-lashes, but when wearing this mascara; everyone commented on my eyelashes, saying how they looked as if they were false eyelashes, as they were so long!
However, when i fell asleep once with the mascara and awakened to find garish black marks all over my pillow; i didn't make the mistake of falling asleep with the mascara on again!
Apart from that, i only have postive things to say about Clinique's High Definition Mascara; and if you don't mind paying quite a bit for it, i 100% recommend it!
I bought this mascara from Debanhams after deciding to spend a bit more money on a mascara. It was £12.50 which I actually thought was quite reasonably priced. It was recommened to me by a friend so I thought would give it a try. They had it in both black and brown, and as I have light coloured hair, I thought would go for the brown as you dont always get the option. It had two sides to it, a normal brush and a comb. I had my doubts as I have used one with a comb before and it always made my lashes clumpy, but I was pleasently surprised. The brush side gives a slightly lighter effect and doesn't go on very heavy, but if you want slightly more defined, thicker lashes then the comb works really well. It actually helps to seperate your lashes and makes them look very long. The only disadvantage I would say, is that I like my lashes quite thick and long, and although this mascara does this very well, you have to put on quite a few layers and this can take a bit longer in time, not good when your in a rush! I would definitely recommend this mascara, if you are looking for a good quality mascara, but don't want to spend a huge amount, then this is definitely for you. I would buy again and can say it is definitely worth spending money for a good quality mascara.
This is by far the best mascara I have ever used. In the past I felt like I was just painting my lashes black, but this mascara really makes your lashes look longer and thicker without looking remotely clumpy.
The packaging is in cliniques usual stylish form and the wand has two sides-a brush and a comb. The mascara is 'brushed' on initially, then you use the comb to do the magic! I put a final 'flick' at the end of my top lashes which saves having to use an eyelash curler before or after application, as the lashes stay in place all day! And only one coat is required...
The mascara definitley reaches a point where you realise that you need a new tube as after a few months it loses its magic-but we all know that we should change our mascara reguarly!
The cost of £12.50 is a little pricey, but I would recommend it....it really works!!
Your eyes are the window to your soul...
How many times have we looked deeply into someones eyes? Personally I think eyes are one of the most beautiful features on someones face, or at least they can be with the proper enhancement. But one of the biggest pitfalls is over-enhancement, too much mascara or a poor quality one, can make your lashes look fake and clumpy.
Mascara is probably one of the things I hate buying the most, usually it isn't possible to test the brush or even see it besides a picture on the display.
And there have been countless times that I have come home with a purchase that I just wasn't happy with after buying it based on the advertising.
Clinique high definition lashes comes in a very simple black tube with some silver writing on it, I personally bought the brown color, as I like a more natural look sometimes, so that when I do dress up people can see the difference! But the casing is the same, as the black color.
My first positive reaction was when I opened the tube and saw the application wand. It is divided in half with one side being the usual bristles and the other side a comb, so that you can brush through your lashes as you apply the mascara, this not only saves time from using a separate eye lash comb, but it is also more affective as the lashes are not dried yet and so more malleable. This brush also narrows at the tip so that you can reach those pesky eye lashes in the corners of your eye.
I decided to only use this mascara on one eye and then a different brand which I had previously purchased on the other eye, in order to create an accurate comparison. For this experiment I used a brand new tube of Loreal Lash Architect.
First I applied the Clinique mascara, it separated the lashes very well and gave a good impression of volume as each lash was coated, and instead of there being thicker clumped lashes at the base tapering out to thinner at the tips, this mascara put an even coating on each lash. So I was left with the appearance of thick natural lashes, each one being individually separated. I was very impressed with the look and immediately sold on it.
Next I started on the other eye, the applicator wand of Lash Architect is quite inferior in that not only is it quite thick and therefore tends to get on your eyelids, it also dosnt narrow at the tip so its hard to reach into the corners of your eyes.
Applying the brush to my eyelashes, it coated them easily, but due to the thickness of the brush didn't separate them, so at the end the lashes at the base tended to clump together, giving the impression of false eyelashes, it also gave them less volume, as they tended to be stuck together more and not as spread out. Running over the eyelashes with a separate eyelash comb, improved but didn't solve the problem.
There was no doubt in my mind that the Clinique wand had won hands down over the Loreal one, I would highly recommend this mascara to anyone who wants natural looking eyes with lots of volume and class.
The price at 15 pounds is more expensive them most mascaras, but if you want quality then I would recommend you invest in the best!
This is a wonderful product from Clinique.
Clinique as a brand do have a very good reputation in the cosmetic industry for producing quality products. Their packaging, in general, is simple yet stylish and this mascara is no exception.
It comes in a long black tube with a silver top and has its product name and description written in silver, on the tube itself.
It costs 12.50 and can be bought at any retailer that stocks 'Clinique' products. It is available in brown but I am describing the black mascara for this review.
This mascara is described as 'High Defintion' and it achieves this claim due to, I believe, the quality of the actual mascara itself and also the brush design.
The brush is split into a normal mascara brush and a separator for the lashes. Thus, when you remove the wand from the tube, both parts of the brush head have mascara on them.
This would not occur normally if you were to use a separator prior to applying mascara and I believe it gives the lashes that extra bit of definiton.
You can choose to separate the lashes first and in so doing place over the lashes one coat of mascara followed by a second coat applied with the regular part of the brush.
You could reverse this process and separate after the initial application or indeed only use one side of the brush.
Thus you can create different looks with one brush!
The mascara is thick enough to give good coverage and definition but not so thick that it causes 'gloops' (that's a technical term by the way) on the lashes - very unattractive.
It does smudge quite easily I find, but then I do have a tendancy to forget Im wearing mascara and rub my eyes when Im tired.
All in all this is a quality product with stylish packaging, but its not cheap.
I love this mascara!!
Bought from Boots, this mascara will set you back £12.50 (Dated November 2008). I would recommend waiting until a "bonus" offer is on as you can easily pick up many a good freebie with two or more items from Clinique.
This is a mascara with a difference. I have not seen one like it- though would not be surprised if one of the cheaper brands cottons on sooner or later and makes a copy.
Why is this mascara different? Well simply this, half is a brush, and half is a comb.
It looks -and sounds, complex, but its really not. I have found that you can either comb through the lashes to give a very even, exact result. Or you can use the brush give your lashes more of a boost- I can't be 100% as it does not state this anywhere on the pack- but I could swear its curls my lashes when I use it.
I prefer to sort of roll the brush as I use it- I do this with a normal mascara anyway to I am well practised - generally I feel it gets more of the actual mascara onto my lashes then using the same mini section of the brush over and over again. But doing so with this mascara give whole other result - its really worth a try if you can get to test a sample at the Clinique counters. I find that I can get the brush part to give my lashes a boost, then the comb to separate them. Or alternatively, separate the lashes with the comb and then brush over them to make them appear a bit less precise.
Both efforts give a really nice result, covering all my lashes- and not a massive spider effect either- this does dry quite quickly. (I have found that the spider effect happens when I use cheap mascaras that do not dry fast enough.)
Basically, (for me anyway), hours of fun!
I did not find the mascara flaked or dried and peeled the way some other mascaras did- and this is after hours at the gym, sweating, running with air blown in my face, doing yoga, taking the underground/tube/bus, walking around air conditioned shops.... it didn't matter what, the mascara stayed put. I do have to say though, it is not waterproof and did run in the shower- though it does not state nor claim to be waterproof anywhere on the tube/box.
I chose this in brown as I have so many black mascaras. I do have brown mascaras too, but just not as many. They tend to be too pale for me, too subtle and so never get used. But this brown is quite dark- I have not tried the black and would imagine the result is very much more high impact, but this is good enough for me. I really love this!
I would rate this just below DiorShow in terms of lengthening and volumising, -but again, I chose brown, not black, it may have been another story if I had chosen black, though the DiorShow I do still think has a bigger impact result. But the big difference is in removing it- the Clinique comes off very easily with wash off cleanser (I use the mild liquid soap by Clinique). I do get some residue, but its easily taken off with a further application of eye make-up remover. It is unlike the DiorShow which takes many many many attempts to wash off the mascara and the residue. And then you still wake up the next morning to find more there! (Oh the price we pay for the perfect mascara!!)
I will be buying this again- that is provided I don't get bored and move on to something new (I get bored very easily, chop and change my mascaras all the time, and currently have at least 8 mascaras on the go!) Though this defiantly one of the best mascaras I have used- in fact, is neck and neck with DiorShow.
I bought the Clinique High definition Lashes Mascara in Boots for the price of £12.50 which i think is a reasonable price for a mascara.
This Mascara is the best i've found as yet. I bought it in Black but they have Brown available too. The mascara is half brush and half comb which effortlessly blends onto your lashes, i use the brush to apply the colour and then use the comb part to define each lash, this actually made my eyelashes appear longer and volumised each lash but in a more natural way.
It doesn't smudge on me and is easy to remove, a normal facewash will do the trick without the need for any specialised eye removing solution. I would 100% recommend this product to anyone and can safely say that i don't need to use any other mascara as this one does the trick just perfectly. I've had many compliments on my lashes which people seem to notice a lot of the time and are always asking what i'm using so they can try it out for themselves.
I purchased Clinique High Definition Lashes from Boots for £12.50, which I didn't consider to be particularly expensive for a mascara. However for that price, I have high expectations of the product. I use other Clinique products and prior to buying this I was already a huge fan of their brush on eye liner.
I have used mascaras from Estee Lauder, Lancome, Elizabeth Arden, Maybelline, Rimmel, GOSH, Benefit and Ruby & Millie to name a few. I was always switching between brands because I could never find a mascara which achieved that great long-lash look without having clumpy lashes which stick together.
I liked the idea of having a two-way applicator. One side is a brush and the other a comb. You are directed to firstly use the brush-side to add the dramatic colour. You then need to use the comb to seperate your lashes, giving a perfect finish. The product impressed me so much and on my first day wearing it 3 people complimented me on my eyelashes. I was so pleased and quite surprised as this was a cheaper product than many others that I had previously tried.
The product is sold in Black or Black-Brown. I bought the Black-Brown which I really like as it matches my hair and eyebrows perfectly. It looks great and you can build up the mascara for long, dramatic lashes without fear of them clumping together and making you look like a drag Queen. This is a top quality product and so far I have had no problems with it. It has lasted for a long time as well and hasn't dried out atall.
This mascara looks even better when used in conjunction with Clinique's Brown brush on eyeliner. The two products compliment each other beautifully, allowing you to create a dramatic effect. You can also you less of these eye products and create a great smart look ideal for work. I love how versatile this mascara is. I can create perfect dramatic lashes for the evening, or a more formal look for daytime. It really is brilliant and I can't recommend it highly enough!
