Worth the money for that extra volume for nights out - no need for falsies!

I got a free mini tube of this from a clinique mascara swap in - at first I was disappointed that I couldn't get my usual sample of their High Impact mascara, but this really exceeded my expectations. The lady at the counter recommended it as a top layer over your normal mascara and I totally agree. Despite being initially confused at the thin green wand, I applied this mascara over my normal mascara. What happened was totally unexpected - as well as blackening my lashes further, and adding a bit of length, it added incredible volume. I wouldn't use this on its own - the bendy wand can't give sufficient length or curl to my lashes to make it effective. I also wouldn't recommend this for day wear, but for evening - it has eliminated my need for false lashes on nights out. Having a top layer of this makes a huge visible difference. I'm actually going to buy the full product when my sample runs out, worth the money. Be careful of the very wet formula and don't apply too much as you will get clumpy lashes.

This mascara lives up to its claims - but be prepared to practise with the new style brush!

I received a free 5ml sample of this product as part of a recent Boots/Clinique promotion, where you could exchange your old mascara for a new free sample of Clinique High Lengths Mascara. I received my sample in 01 Black, however I believe that Clinique sells the full size (7ml version) of this in Black/Brown, with the full size version retailing on their site at around £16.80. APPLICATION The brush for this mascara varied from the many others I have tried over the years, in that it has a definite curve and smaller bristles than I am used to. I found that I needed to take care to remove any excess product from the brush before applying the mascara, otherwise there was a risk of overload and clumping. The difference in the brush style meant that I did need to take my time to apply the product, however I would say that this mascara does what it claims to do: my lashes looked significantly longer post-application. REMOVAL This mascara stayed on well during the day, so I did wonder how easy it might be to remove at night time. I need not have been concerned - it came off easily with a fairly standard and inexpensive eye make-up remover. PACKAGING As you might expect from Clinique, the product comes in a sleek white tube with a silver top. The packaging is minimalist yet stylish, making the product something you would be quite happy for others to spot in your make-up bag! THE RESULT I felt that this mascara really did 'open up my eyes'. The end result was lashes that looked longer than my normal 'post-mascara' lashes and a couple of friends even commented on them. I don't tend to wear mascara every day and, if I was to purchase this product, I'd be more likely to plump for the black/brown for daywear. I think the lengthening effect of the black was so dramatic that I'd tend to leave that look for evening! THE PRICE I was delighted to receive this sample in exchange for one of my old mascaras, as it is a product that works. Although I'm cost conscious with cosmetics, I would be tempted to purchase this once my sample is finished as it does make a real difference to the look of my lashes.

      An all round great mascara

I Was given this product for my birthday this year everyone knows that I rarely purchase anything for myself and just wait for birthdays and Christmas to treat my self so when they come along you can be guaranteed there will be make up and anything to pamper myself involved. This mascara retails at around £15 for a 7 ml tube of mascara and is available from clinique counters and online I received mine in brown but it is also available in black It is the same as any other mascara at first site with a twist off top with the wand connected to the inside of the lid but it is the applicator which is different. The is really thin and almost like a comb with bristles just to one side and a curved head. It looks really strange at first and I did not think much to it thinking that maybe it would be a little disappointing. I applied the mascara as usual using the applicator to pull my lashes as it coated them with mascara. Although it does pull them there is no irritation just a little tug which ensures it reaches right to the end of the lashes. The applicator actually makes my eye lashes separate causing a full effect and at the same time as it is coating right to the tip of the lashes gives a fantastic length to them while defining at the same time. I can put this on in the morning before work run around all day and look after my babies when I get home and the mascara is still visible at 8 pm at night. Although it is not waterproof it lasts extremely well without cracking, flaking or clumping. When it comes to removing the mascara at night time it comes of very easily with one of my facial wipes I can easily remove any remaining mascara fresh and ready for the next days application. My only downside is it can take a while to get used to the strange application head as at first it feels like you are applying your mascara at a tilt and can be a little uncomfortable to apply. As soon as you find a good angle to apply this mascara it is fantastic. I would recommend this mascara to anyone it last for ages even running around all day, You can top it up easily if you are heading out in the evening without it clumping or flaking and gives such a fantastic finish. It seems a little pricey at first but for the value and finish and the long lasting effect it is well worth the extra penny's.

A weird looking applicator that really works and fab mascara!

I got a free sample of this mascara when I traded in an old one at Boots and after one use I went straight out and bought a full-sized version. I admit it is a bit pricey for a mascara (mine was £18 from Boots), but I really think that this is worth it for a good mascara. The packaging is nice and simple, like a lot of clinique products. It's just a silver tube with the clinique logo on it. The wand is like nothing I've ever used before, it's like a little comb. I was a bit sceptical to start with but it really worked and managed to get my eyelashes well coated and separated and I had no lumps or blobs of mascara. I even had a couple of compliments about my eyelashes when I wore this, so it must work. I found the mascara itself a good consistency and it lasted well throughout the day. It was also easy to take off with my eye make-up remover and I wasn't left with panda eyes the next day, so to me it's a winner.

      A great mascara!

I am pretty fussy about mascara - believing that you get what you pay for - and I've made a few mistakes buying faddy mascaras or cheap, watery mascaras. I'd tried a few other Clinique products and was happy with those, so when the time came to replace my mascara I thought I'd try a Clinique one. I went for the High Lengths Mascara in Black. It's a basic looking mascara to look at the tube - quite plain, though it does of course have the Clinique logo - and it's available in larger branches of Boots and also departmental stores which have a Clinique concession, as well as online (Strawberrynet sells a lot of reasonably priced Clinique). The cost for the 7ml tube is £18 though I have seen it slightly cheaper at £17.50, and as much as £20. You can get it cheaper in a set, or at the Airport. So, what sets this mascara slightly apart for me is the wand. I have very long eyelashes and I like good definition to really make them stand out, and I had never before this used anything other than a standard wand. Well, this wand is more like a comb, and it's curved, too. The great thing is that it really does get to every lash no matter how tiny and the comb makes sure that they are evenly covered with mascara with no clumping. Each lash is defined. The mascara is lovely, smooth and creamy with a high pigment and is very nice to apply - doesn't feel cheap at all. I've had a few people ask me where I got my eyelash extensions done, so I can guarantee you it works! (I didn't even know eyelash extensions existed until I was asked about my eyelashes and I had to assure the lady that my eyelashes were all my own and it was Clinique I had to thank!) I really do recommend the Clinique High Lengths Mascara whatever colour you go for. It might feel a bit odd combing on mascara but hey, that's how it used to be done before the wand came into play, and it makes a lot of sense to do it like that. The comb ensures evenly covered clump free lashes. The mascara isn't waterproof but it does have excellent staying power yet is easily removed with a make up remover, wipe, or even soap and water. If you're wanting a quality mascara then I would say go for this - OK it's a bit more expensive than your average high street mascara but only by a bit (a high street mascara can easily cost £11 - £12, by L'Oreal etc, and this is much better than any other I have used). Alternately, it would make a lovely gift for a lady who deserves the best!

        Very nice but pricey

As you may have seen from a previous review I recently purchased a mascara for my bottom eye lashes but I had run out of the mascara for the top lashes so went on a hunt for something suitable. Whilst having a look around I came across Clinique High Lengths Mascara, I have long eye lashes so like to buy a product that makes them stand out and will often go for a lengthening mascara which was why I was drawn to the Clinique High Lengths one. I was slightly put off by the price of this product but decided to buy it anyway. Packaging The Clinique High Lengths mascara comes in the regular long thin tube that most mascaras come in. The design of the tube is quite basic, the whole thing is plain white, it has the words "Clinique High Lengths Mascara" written on black writing, this stretches the whole length of the tube and the word "Clinique" is written in a slightly different style to the rest of the lettering and is highlighted with a black line drawn above and underneath the word. The colour is also displayed on the tube as well. The mascara has a large sliver lid, this, as with most mascaras has the brush attached to the under side of it, the lid also doubles up as the handle of the brush and is the same thickness as the rest of the tube, it is a nice size to hold when applying the mascara not too large but on the other hand not too small. The Brush The brush was also one of the things which drew me to this mascara, it is not like the regular mascara brushes but was more like a comb. The lid unscrews from the top of the mascara tube to reveal a long thin black stem, this allows you to get the mascara from right at the bottom of the tube, on the end of the stem is a small green and slightly curved comb. The comb is made up of tiny teeth which gather up the mascara and apply it to your lashes, the comb is described as a "willow applicator" and the curved shape is designed to "capture and coat every single lash giving extra length and volume". Where as some mascara brushes are quite flexible the Clinique High Lengths mascara brush is quite ridged and hard, the bristles are made from plastic making them quite sharp on the ends. Prices I purchased my Clinique High Lengths mascara from my local Boots, for a 7ml tube which is a quite standard sized tube and it cost me £15.00, now personally I think this is quite expensive for a mascara especially as ones I usually buy cost me just £7.00, however my reasoning behind spending this amount of money on a mascara was that it would be of a better quality and maybe last me a bit longer. Colour The Cliniqu High Lengths mascara only comes in 2 colours Black or Black/Brown, I went for the black version, however I do think it would be nice if there could be a few more colours in the range. My Opinion When I first applied the mascara using the comb I was impressed with the way the curved brush really did pick up all of my eye lashes, I have tried mascara with comb applicators in the past and have always got on well with them so I was confident that I would be ok using the Willow applicators of the Clinique High Lengths mascara. The consistency of the mascara was the same as most mascaras not runny at all meaning the brush could easily pick up the mascara but not so thick that you cannot cover your lashes with it. I ran the comb through my lashes and was impressed with the way it was evenly distributed, the sharp teeth of the comb ran easily through my eye lashes evenly spreading them out, I cannot stand eye lashes which are clumped together, the teeth of the comb meant there were no clumps at all, the comb fanned out my eye lashes and coated them from base to tip, the comb even picked up the smaller lashes which sometimes get missed. After I had applied the mascara to my top eye lashes I was impressed with how they looked, the mascara had lengthened my lashes and made them appear thicker, as I have said I have quite long eye lashes as it is but this mascara really emphasised them, and on top of that there was no clumping at all. I wore the mascara all day and it did not crumble at all and at the end of the day my eyes still look as good as they did when I left the house in the morning, I was very impressed with the way the Clinique High Lengths mascara lasted. Whilst I was impressed with the mascara and the way it emphasised my eye lashes and the way it lasted I still think it is a bit on the expensive side, the effects of the mascara are very good but I have used mascaras which are cheaper and still have the same effects. Overall I was pleased with my Clinique High Lengths mascara it did lengthen my eye lashes and created extra volume, it is supposed to give your eye lashes an extension effect, whilst it did lengthen them, it can obviously only work with what's there in the first place and can only lengthen your lashes to a certain point. I also particularly liked the applicator and the way in which is prevented clumping and my eye lashes sticking together, however I do think it is very expensive for a mascara, I would recommend it but would probably only buy it again myself if I had a specific purpose or for a special occasion, for me it is not a mascara I would buy for general every day uses. Clinique High Lengths mascara is an excellent high quality product but it is slightly over priced.

          wont buy

Over the past 10 years I would estimate that 90% of the mascaras I have bought have been Rimmel, but this one came in a gift pack and I gave it a go. I have also tried a few other brands, but always end up going back to Rimmel, and this Clinique mascara wont stop me doing the same. The wand is very unusual and makes it quite difficult to use, im sure you get used to it, but I didn't like it very much. This wand is like plastic spikes to one side, like a comb. This makes it quite hard to get a lot of product on and sweep it over your lashes. It also separates your lashes too much, you want them to clump together a little more to look thicker, this makes them look thin. Whilst it doesn't claim to be waterproof, I normally find non waterproof mascaras do not budge except in extreme circumstances, but this one smudged and I don't think it would hold as well as other non waterproof mascaras. All in all you can get a much better mascara for less. Like I say, I always use Rimmel, which is a third of the price of this but much more effective and easier to apply and lasts longer. I wont buy Clinique but if I had it in a gift pack I would use it again of course. Its not so terrible I wouldn't but it is not worth buying.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          6.5/10

*OVERVIEW* As any of you who know me will know, I absolutely love make up and buy SO much it's insane. I tend to go for the cheaper brands unless I'm given stuff as presents because I can't really afford brands like Clinique all the time. When I had my bonus from work I decided to treat myself and got this Clinique High Lengths Mascara. *THE PRICE* I bought mine for around £15 which, having used the product, I think is a little steep. I would normally go for much cheaper products and I don't think the quality of this product is enough to justify the pretty steep price. *AVAILABILITY* This is available wherever Clinique make up is sold, so stores like John Lewis, certain Boots stores and Debenhams. You can also purchase this product online. *PACKAGING* I can't really complain about this - it is in a simple silver tube. It's fairly attractive but nothing special, though I doubt you would even expect that from a simple mascara. *THE PRODUCT* The product comes with a special curved brush which is meant to lengthen and thicken your lashes. I actually would prefer a straight brush as I find these work much better. The quality of the mascara is fine, but nothing special. I did find it dried out fairly quickly and flaked on my face as the day wore on but that may just be because I wear so much! The product is adequate but I don't think it's worth the hefty price tag. *SUMMARY* A nicely packaged and fairly good product, it is let down by its steep price.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

It's not any better than cheaper brands.

This product came with the Clinique gift set my friend bought me for Eid, along with some goodies and a lip gloss (that I have reviewed already) and I will be making some suggestions for the other things that came along with it as they currently not on Dooyoo. Clinique are usually associated with high quality, and are, in my opinion, a very popular brand. Along with this high quality label (as you would expect) is a high price. You can buy clinique products from your usual Boots, Superdrug, Debenhams. You can find these products online a lot cheaper but by the time you pay for postage and packaging, you are really paying the same price if not more. You can usually find clinique products are free but this is no reflection on the quality, but probably just people's reluctance to pay high prices for make-up. Although I wouldn't go out my way to buy anything from the Clinique range (except from their fake tan), the free set I got was great and I can't complain. However, with such a high price, how does it compare to cheaper brands? .... Is it worth the price? I'm not going to talk much about the packaging because it's irrelevant. But I felt it looked awfully cheap and when I took it out the bag, I assumed it was a free sample and not the real stuff. However, when I checked dup on Clinique's sight, it's the real deal and I think they were very lazy with the design of this mascara considering they were going to sell it for this price. When you unscrew the top, you find there is a plastic wand. Usually, you find mascara brushes are feathery although this wand has plastic spikes, it does the job just as well. It may seem a little confusing using the brush at first, when you take it out, all the spikes are to one side unlike usually wands where the whole brush is rounded although it does the job all the same. I don't actually like the style of this brush as I prefer a rounded brush due to the way I apply mascara. I place the brush on my eyelashes and roll it towards my eyeball slowly so I can get right to the root of the eyelash. With this, however, you are unable to do that unless you are brave and can just bring the wand close to your eye. I'm unable to do this as I just blink and flinch when I bring it too close to my eyeball. So yes, this did sort of ruin the way I like to apply my mascara. Because of the rounded shape of the mascara brush, you are almost forced to apply it the one way. I like to take the corner of the brush and give the edges of my eyes a good brush, then slowly move from the inside of my eye out, rolling it towards my eyeball and giving the top of my eyelashes a brush. With this wand, you have to place on your eyelash, and stroke up. Place it on your eyelash, and stoke up. Place it on your eyelash, and stoke up. It seriously ruins your creativity and the way you like to do your make-up. The awkward application does make me feel uncomfortable and makes my eyelashes feel "unfinished" because I haven't been able to get all my lashes. Very often I have to take my beloved stiletto and so the work that the Clinique didn't do. Also, several times when trying to get the corners of my eyes, the silly brush has wiped mascara all over the inside of my nose. That's another thing, when you dip it into the mascara liquid, it goes all over the back of the brush on the very end of the brush where it's not needed, completely wasting the liquid and getting it all over your face causing you to have to do your make-up again. It claims to "lengthen" the eyelashes, which of course like most mascara it does but I have bought cheaper mascaras and I don't notice it has done any better of a job. Infact, I think the brush is what causes this product to fail as you simply can't get a good application. You can buy the best mascara in the world but if you can't get the chance to apply it properly you may as well buy ASDA's own brand. I felt that this mascara done the opposite of what it was supposed to do in some cases. I felt that because of the large spaces between all the brush 'teeth' it didn't even clump you eyelash together, it just thinned them. I did notice a huge difference in the lenth, so yes 10/10 and a gold star for that clinique. But having full and vibrant lashes is just as important as having long ones, and I felt this mascara didn't give vibrant lashes at all. I like my lashes to either be clumped together (yes I do like the clumped look) or preferably fluffy and thick. But I just felt my lashes were anorexic and dead even though they were a very long length. I had the brown version of the mascara as opposed to the black, so I suppose this may have hindered the results slightly although I have had other brown mascaras and I felt my lashes were more outstanding with them. Even when I do have a brown mascara, I always place another black mascara over it to highlight them but not even darkening the colour of these lashes helped the results. It wasn't waterproof as it transferred a little on to the area under my eye in the rain, although I don't think it has claimed to be waterproof so I can't criticise it for that. I'm not going to say it was awful, yes it done a fair job and did do what it said on the box (lengthen) but I am just fussy and like my lashes to appear full and I don't think this did it for me. The results were good, but not for a £15.00 mascara unfortunately. Which brings me on to my next point.... Price! The RRP is £15.00 and I can tell you right here, right now, you wouldn't find me paying this amount of money for it. I think that just because Clinique are a high quality brand they can just stick whatever price they want on to their products regardless of the job it does. You can get great maybe line mascaras or even collection 2000 that do just as good a job as this for half the price. This mascara apparently won Top Sante Health and beauty Glow awards 2011. Apparently, this is quite a reputable award from a magazine which promotes readers to be healthier and more energetic. So I guess this mascara has some healthy ingredient that we should be using or what not. However, you know what they say, when something has healthy ingredients, it never tastes as good! So don't be thrown by this award. I'm not going to say it's an awful mascara, because it isn't, it done the job fine and done what it claimed to do so really I can't complain about that. But the brush was a huge disappointment and really made things difficult for me. What I can say is that it's not worth the price and doesn't have the "wow" factor that you would expect from a high quality brand and such a high price. You let me down a bit here Clinique!

This Clinique High Lengths black mascara is one of my favourites however at £14.99 it is not exactly cheap but in my opinion it is worth every penny. The packaging is really stylish and simple, a bright wight tube and silver top. The applicator is quite thin with a curve to it and this rather unique design does take a bit of getting used to so you need a couple of practice applications however it is not exactly hard to master and once you do it is very accurate and easy to handle. There is a richness to the depth of colour that you get with this mascara and while applying it you can tell that you are using a quality product. It also really lengthens my lashes and certainly without any clumping so you get great detail with each lash being really prominent and long and certainly you only need to apply it the once unless you want to go for that awful vamp look that some people seem to think looks attractive. I have also found that it lasts a long time and I have never had a problem with it running, also with the clinique eye make up remover it is very easy to get off when you want to remove it. I have been a loyal customer of this product for a while now as it is really good. Also it is worth keeping an eye open for when any of the clinique range are on offer as Boots often run promotions or deals and it pays to stock up as it is not exactkly chep at the normal retail price. Certainly a big thumbs up anda fluttering of those lashes from me as I would definitely recommend this product.

A clump free lash lengthening product

On first viewing this mascara I found its appearance to be quite intimidating purely due to the long, thin and sharp looking applicator brush that Clinique have designed for this mascara. It is very different to anything I have had to put that close to my eye before, having a plastic, very curved wand applicator. There is no 360° brush on this make-up typical of the standard mascaras that we are used to seeing in shops. Its design is relatively unique, though similar strange looking products have been seen recently on the market such as Givenchy Phenomenal 'Eyes Mascara. The applicator consists of one side of rubber spikes with which you apply the mascara to your lashes. There are two rows of these spikes on the wand being approximately 0.1 - 0.2mm in length. These spikes are intended to give the eyelashes the 'high lengths' it advertises in its name. As mentioned previously this is not the most timid looking of applicator brushes, but it is surprisingly flexible and I can vouch that if poked into the eye by accident this will not leave any lasting damage. The applicator is strong but not dangerous, the curved shape of the wand is meant to trace the shapes of the top and bottom eyelids from the base to the ends of the lashes. Obviously this cannot be accomplished to suit each individual person's eyelid shape, but for me it fits well and I manage to get good coverage across all my lashes at once, so that gets my vote. I do think the length of the plastic 'fang-like' applicator spikes would benefit from being slightly longer in order to better grip the lashes, but overall it does give a good coverage in a small number of sweeps. Personally I prefer, thicker and much fuller looking lashes than Clinique's effort gives me here. It does provide the length that it advertises for which I would rate product as good; the spikes separate from root to tip and give a clump free set of lashes. One drawback I find with this product however is it does not give a full and thick appearance which I prefer my mascaras to do. I know that this is predominantly advertised as a lengthening product so I cannot grumble too much, however the product description does state it gives you "volume upon immediate application", which I disagree with. The product come in two colour only, black and brown, be warned neither of these are waterproof. I sometimes found after a brisk walk to work on a windy day I would have slight black tear marks coming horizontally from the outer corner of my eyes, which is never a good look! For 7ml of this product you will pay approximately £15 from any Clinique product stockers (Boots, Debanhams etc.). This is not a particularly high price for Clinique mascara; I feel this is perhaps because of its rare looking features. I have stopped using this recently in favour of a more voluptuous mascara but it was still going after about 6 weeks of use, so it seems to be a long lasting product for the money. This mascara won the "Winner of the Top Sante Health & Beauty Glow Awards 2011 for Premium Cosmetics Range" apparently, so it can't be all bad. It is also, like most Clinique products ophthalmologist tested. It does also say in the product description "For best results, use with Lash Building Primer" which is perhaps where I went wrong, however if I buy a mascara I do not want to have to pay for an additional piece of make-up to achieve its optimum performance, it should really be all in one. As a contact lens wearer I would rate this produce as good, the applicator spikes are relatively safe from touching the lenses being quite short, however the lack of waterproofness is an obvious issue. Overall I think Clinique have better mascaras on the market and would rate this one as an average 3/5 stars.

          Very impressive mascara

A couple of months ago, Boots ran an offer in which you could take an old mascara to the Clinique counter and pick up a free sample of mascara. I took advantage of this, picking up a sample size High Lengths Mascara. ***Price and Availability*** The Clinique range of makeup and skincare is widely available from Boots and department stores such as Debenhams and John Lewis. This mascara normally costs £14.50, which is actually less than I was expecting - I thought a Clinique mascara would normally retail at around the £20 mark. ***Packaging*** To be honest, I've never been overly keen on the Cinique branding and packaging. The simple, stark white look and white coats worn by the counter assistants make me think of a hospital. It's all a bit, well, clinical. This mascara is no different. The white tube and silver lid isn't horrible, but it's not particularly luxurious or attractive. The sample size has exactly the same packaging as the standard one, except that it is, obviously, smaller. ***Shades*** This product comes in two shades, black/brown and black. I have the mascara in black. ***Wand*** This mascara has a very unusual wand. It is thin and curved with individual 'spokes' coming out. I found the wand tricky to use at first, but I got used to it after a couple of days and now I find it easy to use as it helps prevent clumps and gets every lash. It's particularly good on the lower lashes. ***The Product*** It is claimed that this Clinique mascara "gives lashes a dramatic beautiful look with exceptional length". I definitely feel that it lives up to its claims. My lashes look incredibly long, but not too thick meaning that they look dramatic but not OTT. This is important as I don't want to look like Jordan! I have never noticed any clumps when using this mascara, which I believe is at least partly down to the wand. Two coats give a more dramatic look, but I actually prefer to use just one coat of this mascara to give a dramatic daytime look that isn't over the top or unnatural. The mascara never flakes or creates panda eyes. Although it is not claimed that the product is waterproof, I find that it never runs in the rain or when I cry (at a film, which happens a lot). With a previous mascara I used to find that when going to the gym after work, the mascara would run when I sweated and leave me with panda eyes. This didn't bother me too much as I don't care what I look like at the gym, but I found that this mascara didn't budge. However, it came off reasonably easily with eye makeup remover which I found pretty impressive! ***The Verdict*** For some reason I wasn't expecting much from this mascara, but I've been very impressed. The only thing I'm not keen on is the packaging. The actual mascara performs very well and I find it perfect for a daytime look. The £14.50 price tag is expensive but I'm willing to pay it as I feel it is worth it. Apparently Clinique counters in Debenhams are going to run the same free mascara promotion that Boots did, so I recommend you dig out an old mascara and head to Debenhams in the second half of January to get a sample of this fab product free!
