I would highly recommend this product, if you can afford to buy it. Unfortunately I cannot. I received this mascara free in a magazine and have fallen in love with it. Unlike many mascaras, this does not leave any little black dots under my eyes as the mascara drys and cracks. I have had no problems with this running, even in the rain. However, as it is not waterproof, when water is put on it it does run which I personally see as an advantage as it makes it far easier to remove.
The tube itself is a nice but simple design, with a black tube and a silver lid.The tube is not bulky or awkward and so can be taken out in a handbag, if ever you need to apply your mascara when you are out and about.
The colour (I own it in black) is strong and has good coverage even with one layer. The mascara lengthens and separates the lashes with no clumping at all. It is extremely long-lasting and lasts from 8am when I apply it until around 7pm when I take it off, and so touch ups are not required. This makes the mascara last much longer, which is good as it is quite expensive. Although I only have a small tube, it has lasted a long time and I am seriously considered to splash out on a full size version of this mascara as I have been so impressed with its application, lasting and effect on my lashes.
The mascara is in Clinique's usual understated and simple style in that it comes in a small and symmetrical black and silver tube. The size is pretty good because it fits comfortably into handbags and make up bags; I have used other mascaras that contain the same amount of liquid but are in much bigger and clumsier bottles than this one.
The mascara is available in two colours; black and dark chocolate. I have the black one and the colour is really dark and thick, which I love. It seems a bit of an obvious thing to say, but I have had them in the past that are a bit wishy washy and light and I have found that I have needed more than one coat. This is not so with the Clinique one because it only needs one coat to give a nice dark colour.
The brush is quite small which I think is actually much better. It is really easy to use and I find that, because it is so small, it is really easy to get really good coverage across my lashes. It is really maneuverable and I find that I can apply the mascara all the way around my lashes without too much effort. The mascara goes on really well and I haven't had any clumping at all with it.
The main selling point of the mascara is that it is long lasting and they claim that it will last up to 24 hours. I am usually weary about these kind of claims, but in this case I think the mascara has earned the bragging rights. I wear it mainly for work and I find that I tend to rub my eyes a lot at work, but there are no panda eyes in sight when I am wearing this one. It doesn't smudge at all and it does maintain the colour for a long time.
In fact the only problem with the mascara is that it is a little difficult to remove. You get usage instructions with the mascara and it advises that you should dab it off with bath temperature water. To be honest this is where it falls down a bit in my opinion. It isn't impossible to remove, but it is certainly more difficult than just throwing a bit of warm water in the direction of your eyes, as the instructions imply.
The mascara is available for around the £16 mark, which isn't cheap, but I think it is pretty good value for money. I would definitely recommend the mascara because it is a good investment, rather than spending as much on lots of cheaper but inferior mascaras.
I love this product! It is by far my favourite mascara that I have ever used. I have never had a problem with it smudging, running, or leaving those strange black speckles under my eyes. It is possible to put the mascara on in the morning, work all day and still have it look exactly the same as it did 12 hours ago. I originally had a sample size container of this product, but I thought it was so good I actually went back and bought the full size one - I think that speaks for itself! The wand shape is also one of the best I have come across - it gives an even coating of mascara all over your eyelashes and the shape of the end makes it easy to get into the corners. Unlike many mascaras I have tried, it does not look completely fake, it is a perfect balance between looking natural and looking "made up". A product does not form clumps on the eyelashes, which I find to be a problem with many cheaper brands. The price is quite high, obviously this depends on how much you are used to spending on make up, but personally I usually buy cheaper brands than this. I do feel that the difference in price is completely justified though, as it does feel like a more upmarket brand - a little treat every morning when you put your make up on. I am happy I paid a bit more for a clump free product which is easy to apply.
Normally I wouldn't pay out too much for a mascara, but for my wedding I thought a bigger budget (and super waterproof!) mascara could be justified. I first tried the Estee Lauder mascara which promises the same as the clinique lash power - smudgeproof, tearproof and only comes off with warm water. The EL version was very disappointing and my mum recommended the clinique mascara to me.
The packaging is stylish - a lovely black tube with product details written on it (these details tend to rub off so keep the outer box packaging if you like to keep track of what products you have) and a silver lid which unscrews to reveal the applicator. The tube is a really nice size, a little smaller than other mascaras I have used which makes it a lot less clumsy. I initially thought the brush wasn't great (I tend to go for a thick mascara brush to add lots of volume) but after one application I changed my mind! As the brush is slim but a little curved it allows you to get really close in to the eyelashes and the corner lashes but also adds a good amount of length and volume. The only problem I have with application is that sometime a couple of eyelashes can stick together but this is quite easy to rectify either by wiggling the mascara brush or using an eyelash comb to separate the eyelashes.
The colour of the mascara is great - it really enhances the eyes without looking too overdone. It does seem to take a little longer to dry than other mascaras, perhaps because it is quite a thick consistency so you can sometimes end up with little black lines on the eyelids, but these are very easy to remove. As for the staying power, it doesn't disappoint. Each time i use this mascara, it does not shift. There is no smudging and no flaking, and even getting caught in the rain doesn't budge it! The only way it comes off is with warm water, as promised. Make up remover doesn't shift it and it can be a little tricky to remove - it does take a few swipes with warm water before it starts to come off. It lasted the entire day through our wedding - from 11am until after midnight.
This is a mascara that doesn't disappoint and although I think it will be more of a special occasion mascara (it's a little out of my price range for everyday use), I will continue to use it as long as clinique make it!
This mascara promises to be long lasting which I can certainly vouch for. I use this product every day, applying it at 8:00 AM and when I get home at 5:00 PM it is still in place and looks as good as it did in the morning. It doesn't smudge at all in my experience so I can justify spending more than I usually would on makeup as so many mascaras smear as the day goes on. The wand is simple to use and doesn't have one of those massive heads that gets the mascara all over the eye so it works perfectly. I haven't found that this mascara clumps on the lashes but I only use one layer for my everyday look. It doesn't look too dramatic, it just makes you look more awake and lengthens the lashes in a pretty way that is appropriate for a daytime look.
I have the shades '01 Black Onyx' and '04 Dark Chocolate'. My skin is very fair and I prefer to use the brown mascara as it looks less harsh against my skin than the black. The great thing about this product is that it seems to last forever! I have had the dark chocolate shade for about 6 months, using it every single day and the same tube is still giving me great looking lashes. I would recommend this product to people that would be willing to spend a bit more for a great mascara.
I bought this mascara for the first time about ten years ago; yes I know that's a long time! The tried and tested ones are always the best. There are many reasons I have ended up sticking with this particular product. Needless to say I have tried other ones basically because it is quite expensive; however it is well worth the money and lasts for at least six months as I don't wear it every day.
It retails at around £22.00 from many department stores such as Debenhams or Boots and is always available from Amazon. It does exactly what it says, lasts for a long time, excellent for sensitive eyes. It does not smudge which so many do! The mascara comes off with ease, washing with just soap and water, therefore saving on expensive eye makeup remover.
It comes in a long rectangular Clinique box, and quite often there are offers on the Clinique range, especially in Debenhams. Free samples are also sometimes given out.
Clinique lash power mascara is one of the products I purchased when Boots had their 3 for 2 offer on all of the Clinique products. It was my first time I had ever bought Clinique make-up, along with the face powder which I reviewed last, and blusher.
At the time this particular mascara was new, and so it caught my attention more than the other Clinique mascara's. Also, the fact that it was called 'lash power' appealed to me for some reason! It stated that it was long-wearing and would last up to 24 hours on my lashes. I had never came across a mascara to last this long on my lashes, not without smudging anyway!
I bought this in black onyx, but it is also available in the shade dark chocolate. I have never tried brown mascara before and I like my lashes to be very black anyway, so a brown mascara doesn't really appeal to me. I like the black shade of this mascara, it is very dark and makes my lashes look more noticeable because of this.
After the first time I tried this mascara I was very impressed, and I have used it ever since. It does last ages on my lashes although I cannot say if it does for 24 hours without a smudge, as it states it does. This is because I have never wanted my mascara to stay in place on my lashes for this long, I always take my make-up off before I go to bed and so it has only been on my lashes for around 12 hours. However, in the time that I do wear this it doesn't ever smudge. I have tried mascara's in the past and some of them smudge within five minutes of me putting them on, others won't smudge but will need a top-up during the day, this however is good at everything.
I do not need to carry this around with me as it lasts for so long and really does not need a top-up. This is good for me as I do not like carrying around make-up with me, especially my expensive stuff, as I tend to lose them and the ones I lose are always the most expensive items in my make-up bag, very typical!
Besides being smudge proof and lasting ages on my lashes, it also goes on very easily, I use two strokes and it makes my lashes appear much longer, and with no clumps. Some mascara's will clump on your lashes if you do more than one stroke, but this one does not.
This costs £15 for 6g. As experts say you should change your mascara every six months, but I sometimes make mine last a little longer than this as I cannot bear to throw it away if I still have lots of the product left, especially when it costs so much! I don't use this everyday either, as it is quite expensive, instead I alternate between a couple of mascara's that I own and tend to keep this for special occasions or nights out.
I recommend this mascara and it is a must-have in my make-up bag.
As some of you may know I recently (accidentally) cut off my eyelashes due to eyelash curlers, however they have been growing back since then and I have found that wearing a decent mascara works now and I am no longer in need of the falsies!
WOW! I do feel like a lucky girl! Around a week or so now, Boots had a Macmillan night, to raise money for charity and if you spent over £50 (Christmas presents, not for me! ) you got entered into a raffle to win a MASSIVE hamper and to my absolute surprise (as I had forgotten about it) I got a call to tell me I had won!
Now amongst all the amazing luxuries that I am very thankful for, being a student I don't have money to spend on these items, I received this mascara. Now, I must say at the beginning, I was unsure as to how good it would be as I have read some very good and very bad reviews about Clinique items on this site and others.
Now, just checking the Boots website I can see that it costs £14.50, now this is quite a bit more than any normal mascara that I'd buy, however in the grand scheme of prices for mascaras nowadays it does not seem too bad.
You can buy it in store at selected Boots stores (I know not all, such as my local Boots stock Clinique), also Boots.com, also House of Fraser, Debenhams and the likes of.
The mascara itself comes in a black / grey, slightly metallic or glittery tube. It is quite sophisticated and elegant to look at, clearly stating Clinique and does not look cheap, neither tacky to look at and looks like you spend quite a bit on your make up!
When first opened I was very surprised and happy, if a little excited, if that isn't too sad! It was a lovely rich, deep black colour, which looked thick and glossy, unlike the ones that you open and they already seem somewhat dry.
The brush itself is very 'neat' to look, at in that all the bristles go around the brush and between each line f bristles each have the same distance apart. There is probably a good 0.5cm between each circle of bristles, meaning that they are quite space out, but done so evenly.
The brush is not curved in any way to your eyelashes, but is perfectly straight. It is also in a bullet like shape, in that it starts off wider towards the beginning of the brush and gets narrower towards the end. I was also pleased see that there was next to no excess mascara on the very end f the brush, which means that you waste literally none of the mascara.
To apply I always apply from the roots of my eyelash, wiggle it a little then pull it out to extend the lashes. I was happy to see that it caught almost all of my eyelashes, even the ones in the very corners which meant that the mascara brush fitted my eye length / eye shape almost perfectly. On my first use the mascara is really quite thick, by this I just mean rich and high quality, by no means gloopy so I did find it a little messy, which meant that cotton buds are needed at the ready in order to remove any extra from around the eye socket.
Whilst pulling it through my lashes it was so easy it just glided through, unlike some brands I have used that sometimes pull a little or get caught. Even after the first coat I could see that it was a very deep black colour and was very glossy, which made the white of my eye also look glossy and slightly sparkly.
Once I had finished applying I was thoroughly impressed, they were so long! They did not look at all clumpy either, not like I had layered on the mascara. I find I only need 1-2 layers of this for my eyes to really pop. The mascara adds a lot of definition and I am unaware as to whether it is the even spacing's on the mascara brush, however there seems to be an equal amount of space between each of my eyelashes.
They don't look clumpy or spider like, the thing that I like about this mascara is that it manages to lengthen your eyelashes and define them to near perfection without having that spider leg look or too clumpy. They are also smooth, sometimes mascara can look quite dry and causes it to flake once on, however, it may be due to it being glossy, but they are lovely and smooth and in such look very sleek.
After a long day of wearing this I was very pleased to see that it had stayed place all day, despite the mess in the morning, though it being easily removed with a cotton bud, it had not flaked off, become dry or left marks around the eye sockets.
I found it easy-ish to remove. I found that using a face wipe alone was not quite good enough, as a lot of scrubbing or rubbing was needed, yet when I used a cleanser, or a eye make up remover it came off so much easier and simply came off in a few sweeps across the eye.
I would definitely recommend this if you want look, glossy, smooth, defined looking eyelashes that look very sophisticated, without the dreaded spider leg of clumpiness. It stays in place all day and if you can live with a little mess in the morning (which can very easily be removed with a cotton bud and a cleanser with virtually no rubbing) then this is the one for you!
I unaware whether it would buy it at full price, but that is just to do with money issues, otherwise I'd be running down the high street to buy this one!
Clinique, this is one of the positive reviews about an amazing product, however after using other products, I would still be wary as a whole on the brand!
I brought this product as I have very sensitive eyes and lots of mascara irritate my eyes. I was suggested to me to try allergy tested products, which Clinique does. It was also helped by the promise of getting my money back if I reacted to it; thankfully the mascara hasn't had to go anywhere.
This product came packaged in a peach and flowery little box, which the mascara fit in tightly. The mascara was in a little green tube with the lid on top. It had silver writing on the tube. The tube is quite small and only contains 6g, which is not as much as their other ones. But it still last for a long time.
Applying this product: Once you un-screw the lid you see a short wand and brush. When the wand comes out of the tube it carefully removes any excess of the product, meaning none is wasted and it doesn't go on too thick. The wand is very straight and doesn't have a lash comb, however it's still just as easy to apply. All you need to do is give a couple of gentle applications onto your eyelashes and it gives brilliant coverage. It really fulfils its promise and will lengthen the look of your lashes and reach all of your lashes, even the short and awkward ones. It goes on really smoothly and doesn't lump.
It can be quite hard to get this product off. I have tried lots of products to remove this and I have found that Boots own eye makeup removal pads are brilliant at getting it off. As without some brilliant products it really will stay on, at least it doesn't smudge or run throughout the day.
Overall, this product is really great. It stays on and doesn't smudge; I also found that for me it didn't irritate my eyes. It is quite expensive but it is really worth it.
Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long Wearing Formula isn't my preferred choice of mascara ; however, due to running out of my regular mascara, I have found myself using this one which I received in a Clinique Bonus.
Clinique promise that this mascara will look pretty for 24 hours without a smudge or smear due to it's 'thermal' sensitive technology. The clinique website states that with one stroke of this mascara, your pretty lashes will last through rain, sweat, humidity and tears. Yet the formula removes easily with warm water. The unique brush reaches and beautifully lengthens even the tiniest of lashes and it's Ophthalmologist tested, too.
The mascara is contained in a slim tube with a screw top lid and features a very slim applicator wand with a long, slim brush. Although my preferred choice of mascara features a large round brush I have found this mascara easy to use and application is quite simple. Despite Clinique's claim that you only require one stroke I have found that I need at least two or three to provide an even application to my top lashes and one or two to my bottom lashes. I find that the mascara is hardly noticeable with just the one coat. The mascara evenly coats my lashes and they do appear longer but volume is sadly missing, my lashes look quite sparce in comparison to my regular mascara. Due to watching a sad film which induced a few tears I managed to put the mascara through it's paces and I'm pleased to report that it fulfilled it's promise that it will last through tears, etc. There was no trace of panda eyes or any black tracks. However, this mascara is just plain weird when you come to remove it. Clinique advise that warm water and fingertips is all you need to remove it; however, I have found that it just doesn't want to budge regardless of whether I have used warm water, facial wipes, etc ... even my trusy babywipes have struggled to remove this mascara. The texture of the mascara appears to break down when you start to try to remove it and it comes away in small bits/clumps and annoyingly I have found I now sit and pick at my lashes to ensure I remove it all which isn't ideal when I want extra volume !! Apart from using your nails to remove this mascara I have found I have had to rely on an eye make-up remover to ensure that all traces are gone.
Although this mascara lengthened my lashes they didn't look as full as they usually do and I just don't like the removal process so this mascara isn't for me. However, if you are going on holiday and want something waterproof and humidity proof then this could be for you as it just doesn't want to be removed.

Well, in the essentials I suppose you could call this a good mascara. Certainly there are good elements about it, but they were all overridden by the end of the day...
Price and packaging:
This is £14.50 as of January 2010. I consider that to be quite a lot for a mascara, certainly it's at the upper end of my price range. For me to pay over £10 it has to be really good! The packaging is nice, it comes in a little cardboard box with swirly designs on it, very feminine without being girly. The tube is a silvery-grey with the brand name and the mascara name written on it. It is very sleek and 'professional' looking.
Always one of the most important things about a mascara, the brush is certainly one of the best things about this mascara. It is tiny, really thin. I think this great, it really helps me to get all the lashes, top and bottom, even the little tiny ones in the corner. But if you like big brushes (though I can't fathom why anyone would like them!) then this probably isn't for you.
How to use and my opinion:
I'd use this just as a normal mascara really, it's not anything that needs special application.
This mascara will stay on. I never did, but you could probably sleep in it if you wanted. So that's great. But, although Clinique say "Will come off with warm water" (this won't come off with makeup remover) what they really mean is "will come off with hot water" The warm water coming out of your bathroom tap won't budge this. But shower/bath temperature water will. (This also means swimming pool water will remove it as well.) So if you're someone who showers every day in the evenings (which I don't) this will work for you. If you don't, I'd steer away from this!
The world of makeup can be confusing, there are so many brands and types of mascara and for me Clinique's Lash Power Mascara really did stand out when I bought it recently.
***About the product***
This mascara comes in 2 shades Black Onyx and Dark Chocolate and I opted for the Black Onyx.
You get 6g worth for your money, how much your thinking? Well it's not cheap at around a rrp of £13 but it's really a great product and I will tell you why!
I wear contact lenses and have suffered so many years with wearing any type of eye make up purely because my eyes are so sensitive and with some mascaras they even become gritty with the small particles rubbing against the contact lense and eye, and believe me it hurts a lot! So I had to stop wearing eye make up for a while which is not a pretty sight!
I was told by my opticians that it was because I had dry eyes and that is why my eyes were sore and irritated, it didn't matter how much I put on my eyes or whatever brand (except Clinique) my eyes would be sore.
So I thought I would give Clinque a try after reading somewhere that they were a Hypo-allergenic brand great for sensitive skin, and eyes. It was worth a pop I thought so set off on my purchase.
Now this is fantastic my eyes are no irritated, it's easy to apply and lasts from morning to night, does not smudge either and the brush is nice and chunky so you can lap those lashes perfectly
Also I have found out it has an Innovative thermal sensitive technology that helps it stay put for 24 hours but it is easy to remove. Use fingertips to splash warm water (39º C/103º F, bath temperature is ideal) on lashes several times and press gently. Or, wet a cotton pad with warm water, press to eye, then wipe away. Allergy Tested. 100% Fragrance Free.
Fantastic product my makeup bag is looking pretty much just Clinique right now!
I have always trusted Clinique as my sister, mum and I have been using it for years and we believe it to be the best and most reliable brand. Although mosts mascara's say 'long- wearing' this one actually works. The proof is shown at the end of a night out when your eyelashes are still looking full and not all clumped together. People have commented saying that i was wearing fake eyelashes when wearing this mascara as it emphasises your eyes and makes them look alot bigger and brighter. The brush isnt gloopy like some mascara's, the end is nice and big with wide spread bristles so it can get to the smaller, lighter lashes at the centre of the eye and the outer ones. However it could be said that the brush being so big can be a problem as its harder for precision and sometimes is easy to smudge around your eye. Its generally the best macara i've ever had and would strongly recommend it.
Mascaras are an essential item of any girl's make-up bag, a tube full of creamy black (or colourful) stuff that you apply with a wand to your lashes. Hey Presto! Magically you have longer/prettier/curlier lashes with lots of volume - depending of course on the mascara you have chosen, the promises it makes and whether or not it lives up to those claims.
**What does it claim to do?**
This is one of Clinique's latest formulas. I used to work in a department store and thus kept up to date with all the latest products. This one passed me by, as I had left, and no money to spend on such luxuries (sob sob). Luckily for me a friend (who works for Clinique) bought me this one for my birthday last year. I have used Clinique mascaras before and been impressed, so I was only too happy to try this one out.
The promise is that it will last twenty four hours without smudging or smearing, through rain, sweat and tears (that will be a typical day then!) and yet somehow washes off with warm water! There is no promise of a curl, or ultra volume, but this mascara vows to lengthen your lashes, reaching even the itty bitty tiny ones.
The product comes boxed in the reassuring staple Clinique style boxing, with product name in silver on a background of peach and green flowers. The mascara itself is pretty standard. A green tube, again with silver writing and a silver lid, attached to which is the mascara brush. The tube did look smaller than the other mascaras I have had. It was, this contains only 6g, when other standard Clinique mascaras are 8g. I cannot find out why, but it didn't seem to run out any sooner than I would have expected, so not a big problem. The packaging is classy and elegant. It shows that this is definitely a high end product, but it isn't flashy, but then Clinique are all about the science, not the glamour.
On unscrewing the sturdy wand and hearing the satisfying 'pop' that all mascaras should give, I found a shorter wand with a smaller than expected brush. The brush looked to be made entirely of plastic, without any 'brush' bristles, just small plastic ones. I can only describe it as a stretched out egg in shape, tapering at each end and wider in the middle. The brush does not curve and does not have a lash comb. I was very shocked at first, this does seem to be a completely new approach to mascara design.
This didn't make the product difficult to apply, in fact it was very easy. You do need to put on a few coats, and because the brush is small, move it around the eyelash to cover all. If you do this, then as Clinique promise, you can cover even the smallest lash. It is a very we formula, but it dries solid (just don't sneeze too soon), doesn't clump and goes on very smoothly.
This isn't a WOW factor mascara, but it is very effective at what it does. It builds up nicely, adds a little bit of volume, curls the lashes and lengthens. Of course, you can always keep adding more layers - I didn't try this but it could work. The overall effect is pretty, curled lashes, that open out your eyes and make you look very fresh and awake. The genius of this product is that once you have these lashes, you get to keep them all day long! This really does do what it sets out to. I have used the big impact mascaras before and they never last on my lashes. I either end up with black eyes or straight lashes by lunchtime/end of the night. This mascara makes a noticeable difference to my eyelashes and by the time I get home, they look the same they did when I first applied the product, bigger, longer and curlier. No more lash-droop! I guess the choice is yours - huge lashes for half an hour, or nearly huge lashes for the whole night? I know what I would choose!
This is the beauty of the product - it doesn't come off! Even with eye make-up remover this stuff won't brush. You need apply warm water to your lashes - I used a cotton pad, patted on the lashes - and then a cotton pad (the same one will do) to wipe off. This has the effect of melting the formula, and makes any residue easy to remove with a standard cleanser. It doesn't smudge or streak off, it is like nothing you have used before. You will find that the mascara has set hard on your lashes and comes off in small black chunks. If you are a bit weird like me, you may find yourself actually picking it off your eyelashes when you get home - that is possible - it just comes off in little bits. This is slightly odd, but rest assured, it won't budge till you want it to!
This mascara is currently available for £12.23 on the Clinique website and at debenhams.com (post-VAT cut price). Clinique is generally the same price wherever you buy, but you might find it cheaper on ebay, although there is no way to tell if it has been used or not, so I'm not sure if I would risk it. My tip is to look out for the department store discount days, when you can usually get 10% off cosmetics or wait for Clinique 'Bonus Time' when you can buy two products and receive a free gift of sample products and usually a small cosmetic bag too. Failing that the website offers two free samples of your choice with every order, which is very good as the counter girls can get narky if you ask for freebies (I have worked with them) and they won't always give you what you want either. Having said that delivery is £3.95, whatever you spend (although at the moment they have a lipgloss offer when you buy two products, which also looks very good). My advice is simply to check out the offers they have on the website, before going into a store. (www.clinique.co.uk)
If you are not used to paying this much for a mascara then I can assure you that this one is worth it. A high end mascara can cost £18 plus, indeed the ones sold alongside Clinique (Dior, Lancome etc) are this much, so for a premium product it is good value. If you still aren't convinced, pop into a department store and ask if someone will try it out on you. They will be only too happy, and if you want to feel how it applies, you can put it on yourself, they won't mind, but make sure you ask first as they will give you the appropriate trial wand for hygiene reasons (it will be like the one the product uses). Then go home, walk in the rain, have a cry, sweat it out - test it for yourself!
This is a great product and I would definitely buy it for myself. Even though the tube is smaller, it still lasts the recommended six months, and after that you should replace your mascaras anyway. In fact, having spent the last few months using up samples (the pennies won't save themselves), writing this review, I am convincing myself I need some more of this. I've just taken up swimming and it has struck me that it might keep me looking beautiful in the pool a little bit longer than I am used to - think black streaks down each cheek!
Clinique here I come!
I trust Clinique as a brand, and although I can't always afford to purchase their products, I find that when I do I am usually satisfied. I had previously had a different Clinique mascara, that I was very happy with, so I was keen to try the long wearing formula from Clinique.
I was therefore quite surprised at first to find that the mascara appeared clumpy on the lashes and I couldn't seem to apply it without getting drops all over my cheeks and upper eye lids.
I soon changed my opinion though.
I think the bottle comes really full, and because this is a long wearing formula designed to really boost the volume and thickness of your lashes, it's always going to go on quite heavily. The trick is to thoroughly wipe the brush on the edge of the tube, especially when you first begin using it and the tube is still really full, and then apply gradually to eyelashes.
I find that only one coat is required to give my lashes a really dark, full appearance. Indeed they do look a lot thicker and more luxurious than normal, which I am really happy about. So if you want to fatten up your lashes I do recommend this mascara.
Another fantastic thing is that it really lives up to its claim of being long-wearing. Once the mascara has dried, which does take a minute so make sure you don't apply it and then run out the door or you might reach your destination to find nice smears around your eyes, it really does stay put. So much so that I have taken to wearing this mascara every time I know I'm going to be staying over at my boyfriend's place. Even through the whole night I wake up the next morning with thick lashes and barely the tiniest smudge under my eyes. Now that's impressive!
On the other hand, I do get the feeling that this mascara is not great for my lashes in the long run. Getting it off can be a bit of a pain. I find that I usually have to do it in the shower, where I let the water soak the mascara for a while before essentially wiping my lashes clean. It's amazing, you end up holding little black tubes that were previously covering your lashes, which just goes to show how much it does thicken them. However, I have noticed that I seem to lose slightly more lashes than normal this way so I'm not sure that I'd want to start wearing this every day. It's more of a special occasion thing for me.
Also, it does dry fairly hard on your lashes, so if you're the sort of person who wants their lashes to feel soft or natural this is NOT for you. This is definitely a high impact mascara that'll last you all night, whether you're out partying or at home having a party for two.
